Zapdos's excellent typing and movepool allows it to be either a respectable wallbreaker or a sturdy defensive pivot. Its typing affords it ample opportunities to switch into battle, as it comes in on Flying-types like Corviknight and Tornadus-T freely. It also notably pressures common Electric-type switch-ins like Landorus-T and Garchomp with its powerful Hurricane, making it quite difficult to switch into for some teams. Its outstanding coverage also does it many favors, allowing it to hit defensive Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Toxapex super effectively. However, Zapdos relies heavily on hitting foes super effectively in order to deal meaningful damage, so special walls like Hippowdon and Blissey can stop it in its tracks and cripple it with Toxic. Zapdos also mightily depends on Heavy-Duty Boots in order to get on the field safely, making it quite weak to Knock Off. That being said, its outstanding STAB move combination and ability to chunk foes with Hurricane is appreciated on many teams.

move4: Roost

evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Zapdos can utilize its excellent coverage to devastating effect with an offensive set. Thunder should only be used over Thunderbolt on rain teams. Similarly, Heat Wave is the preferred coverage option outside of rain, as it hits bulky Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Scizor super effectively, while Weather Ball is the preferred option on rain teams, as it hits ridiculously hard in the weather and covers Zapdos's matchup into specially defensive Pokemon like Landorus-T and Heatran. Static is the preferred option to punish Pokemon like Corviknight and Landorus-T attempting to pivot on it with U-turn. A Timid nature is used to outspeed Urshifu-R.

Zapdos should be used primarily on offensive teams that need a consistent answer to defensive Flying-types like Corviknight and Tornadus-T. For this reason, Kartana is an excellent teammate option, as it in turn pressures bulky Ground-types like Hippowdon for Zapdos. Other offensive Pokemon like Dragapult, Tapu Lele, and Weavile make for excellent breaking cores with Zapdos, as together they can overwhelm opposing walls like Galarian Slowking and Toxapex. Because Zapdos is somewhat frail without investment, pivots like Landorus-T and Corviknight help get it onto the field. Corviknight furthermore absorbs Knock Off and Toxic, both of which terribly cripple Zapdos. Zapdos also fits quite well on rain teams, as rain both gives its Hurricane perfect accuracy and allows Zapdos to fire off powerful, rain-boosted Weather Balls, so standard rain teammates like Pelipper and Barraskewda work well with Zapdos to safely pivot Zapdos in with U-turn or Flip Turn, respectively. Ferrothorn is an excellent defensive teammate for Zapdos on rain teams because it counters Weavile and can switch into strong attackers like Tapu Lele.

[SET]
name: Defensive Pivot

move2: Hurricane
move3: Toxic / Heat Wave / Defog
move4: Roost
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Static
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Due to its great defensive typing, Zapdos makes for an excellent defensive pivot. Discharge is the preferred Electric-type STAB move, as it boasts a nasty 30% chance to paralyze a foe. Alternatively, Volt Switch can be used to more easily generate momentum, but because it forces Zapdos to switch out, it worsen Zapdos's matchup into Toxapex. Toxic cripples bulky Ground-types like Hippowdon, Garchomp, and Landorus-T that like to switch into Zapdos to prevent Discharge or Volt Switch. Alternatively, Heat Wave can be used to hit bulky Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Melmetal super effectively while providing a more consistent option than Hurricane to OHKO Kartana. Defog is another option for the third moveslot that offers a modicum of role compression, but Zapdos is forced out by common entry hazard setters like Landorus-T and Heatran. Static is used to punish U-turn users like Corviknight and Rillaboom, Knock Off users like Kartana and Landorus-T, and multi-hit move users like Urshifu-R and Melmetal with paralysis. The given EV spread allows Zapdos to outspeed Steel-types like Bisharp and Aegislash and either pivot with Volt Switch or hit them with Heat Wave, with the rest of the EVs invested in physical bulk to allow Zapdos to effectively take on some of the stronger physical attackers in the tier like Kartana and Melmetal.

Zapdos fits best on balance-oriented and pivot-heavy teams that appreciate its role compression. Because Zapdos hates losing Heavy-Duty Boots, Knock Off absorbers like Clefable and Corviknight, which also patch up Zapdos's matchup into strong special attackers like Tapu Lele and Dragapult, are excellent teammates. Corviknight also offers Defog support, giving Zapdos some breathing room if it does lose its item while also freeing up Zapdos's third moveslot. Bulky Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Scizor help Zapdos deal with Weavile, and in return, Zapdos can switch into strong Fighting-type attacks and coverage from Urshifu-R and Melmetal. Due to Zapdos's ability to pivot with Volt Switch, physical wallbreakers like Melmetal and Kartana make for excellent teammates for their ability to capitalize on specially defensive walls that like to switch into Zapdos such as Blissey and Galarian Slowking. Kartana particularly enjoys Zapdos countering Tornadus-T and Corviknight. Finally, offensive pivots like Dragapult and Urshifu-R appreciate Zapdos pivoting them in safely and pressuring defensive Pokemon like Assault Vest Tornadus-T and Toxapex.

Zapdos can utilize its excellent coverage to devastating effect with an offensive set. this doesn't add anything, what this set is supposed to be like is already explained with the set name alone Thunder should only be used over Thunderbolt on rain teams. Similarly, Heat Wave is the preferred coverage option outside of rain, as it you don't have to explain that heat wave isn't used on rain teams, especially since it's the first slash. it also just comes off as a bit redundant when you shortly mention after that weather ball is the preferred option on rain teams hits bulky Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Scizor super effectively, while Weather Ball is the preferred option on rain teams, as it hits ridiculously hard in the weather and that part should be self explanatory, getting to the point on what it covers is more important covers Zapdos's matchup into specially defensive Pokemon like Landorus-T and Heatran. Static is the preferred option to punish Pokemon like Corviknight and Landorus-T attempting to pivot on it with U-turn. A Timid nature is used to outspeed Urshifu-R.

Due to its great defensive typing, Zapdos makes for an excellent defensive pivot. see point I made above Discharge is the preferred Electric-type STAB move, as it boasts a nasty 30% chance to paralyze a foe. this is just pokedex info, this would be better explained by Zapdos's longevity and bulk affording it more opportunities to use this to fish for paras Alternatively, Volt Switch can be used to more easily generate momentum, but because it forces Zapdos to switch out, it worsen Zapdos's matchup into Toxapex. Pressure is generally the best ability to use, as it can quickly drain low PP moves like Melmetal's Double Iron Bash; however, Static can be used instead to punish U-turn users like Corviknight and Rillaboom and multi-hit move users like Urshifu-R and Melmetal with paralysis.

Zapdos fits best on balance-oriented and pivot-heavy VoltTurn teams. even though you already explained what it checks, it's always worth mentioning them in this part, especially if there are more things that you could have mentioned such as Galarian Zapdos Because Zapdos hates losing Heavy-Duty Boots, Knock Off absorbers like Clefable and Corviknight, which also patch up Zapdos's matchup into strong special attackers like Tapu Lele and Dragapult, are excellent teammates. This reads a little clunky and is a bit bloated, I'd reword this by stating something like "Pokemon such as Clefable and Corviknight are excellent teammates for their ability to patch Zapdos's matchup against wallbreakers such as Tapu Lele and Dragapult" I would move the fact that they can be knock off absorbers into a new sentence since that feels like more of a bonus than anything. Corviknight also offers Defog support, giving Zapdos some breathing room if it does lose its item while also freeing up Zapdos's third moveslot. another thing that should be mentioned here is what Zapdos does for the other two Bulky Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Scizor help Zapdos deal with Weavile, and in return, Zapdos can switch into strong Fighting-type attacks and coverage from Urshifu-R and Melmetal. Due to Zapdos's ability to pivot with Volt Switch, physical wallbreakers like Melmetal and Kartana make for excellent teammates for their ability to capitalize on specially defensive walls that like to switch into Zapdos such as Blissey and Galarian Slowking. Due to its great defensive typing, Zapdos makes for an excellent defensive pivot. See my point on the above set. Discharge is the preferred Electric-type STAB move, as it boasts a nasty 30% chance to paralyze a foe. You may want to mention how Zapdos's longevity let's it fish for important paras. Zapdos fits best on balance-oriented and pivot-heavy teams. You may want to mention what it checks for said teams. Because Zapdos hates losing Heavy-Duty Boots, Knock Off absorbers like Clefable and Corviknight, which also patch up Zapdos's matchup into strong special attackers like Tapu Lele and Dragapult, are excellent teammates. This sentence is a bit cluttered, I would split it into two sentences stating first that they they patch the matchup with attackers like Tapu Lele and Dragapult. Then in the second sentence, I would state they are also knock off absorbers.

[SET COMMENTS]
Zapdos can utilize its excellent coverage to devastating effect with an offensive set. this has already been explained with the set name. Similarly, Heat Wave is the preferred coverage option outside of rain, as it hits bulky Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Scizor super effectively, and Thunder should only be used over Thunderbolt on rain teams. Weather Ball is the preferred option on rain teams, as it hits ridiculously hard in the weather and covers Zapdos's matchup into specially defensive Pokemon like Landorus-T and Heatran. (i moved the sentences around)First explain what it normally does, and then explain what it should use on rain. Static is the preferred option to punish Pokemon like Corviknight and Landorus-T attempting to pivot on it with U-turn. A Timid nature is used to outspeed Urshifu-R and neutral speed natured Volcarona. Volcarona is an important mon that zap can threaten out, and it can only check offensive volc when running timid.

Here i would add a sentence on how Zapdos also covers a lot of rain's weakness, such as pressuring grasses and how in turn waters can pressure the grounds. Ferrothorn is an excellent defensive teammate for Zapdos on rain teams because it counters Weavile and can switch into strong attackers like Tapu Lele.

Due to its great defensive typing Zapdos makes for an excellent defensive pivot. unnecessary, set name explains it. Discharge is the preferred Electric-type STAB move, as it boasts a nasty 30% chance to paralyze a foe, which zapdos can fish for with its good bulk.mentioning how zap can spam discharge Alternatively, Volt Switch can be used to more easily generate momentum, but because it forces Zapdos to switch out, it worsen Zapdos's matchup into Toxapex. Toxic cripples bulky Ground-types like Hippowdon, Garchomp, and Landorus-T that like to switch into Zapdos to prevent Discharge or Volt Switch. Defog is another option for the third moveslot that offers a modicum of role compression, but although Zapdos is forced out by common entry hazard setters like Landorus-T and Heatran. Static is used to punish U-turn users like Corviknight and Rillaboom, Knock Off users like Kartana and Landorus-T, and multi-hit move users like Urshifu-R and Melmetal with paralysis. The given EV spread allows Zapdos to hit 241 speed, outspeeding Steel-types like Bisharp and Aegislash +speed base 60s and neutral base 70s such as Aegislash and Bisharp, and either pivot with Volt Switch or hit them with Heat Wave, with the rest of the EVs invested in physical bulk to allow Zapdos to effectively take on some of the stronger physical attackers in the tier like Kartana and Melmetal.

Bulky Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Scizor help Zapdos deal with Weavile, and in return, Zapdos can switch into strong Fighting-type attacks and coverage from Urshifu-R and Melmetal.
