Maximizing bulk to allow Volc to act as a stronger answer in bug's composition to physical attackers such as late game Kingambit, while having a much easier time setup in the face of attackers, bulky Volcarona is as strong an option as ever in today's metagame. The ev spread of 84 Speed allows Volcarona to outspeed Scarf Iron Treads at +2, while maximizing physical bulk in the process. Quiver dance, Morning Sun, and Fiery Dance are staples to this set. Giving Volcarona the sweeping potential it wants, with the ability to come in and out throughout a battle to heal as well. The difference between Will o Wisp and Psychic matters in part to personal preference, but team comp is important to recognize as well with what Volcarona loses in the trade off. Psychic is able to cover threats such as Tauros-Blaze, which otherwise would have no problem handling Volcarona and either forcing it out or ending the sweep. It also allows Volcarona to hit pokemon such as Toxapex and Water Absorb Clod, and gives a secondary attacking move to hit neutrals such as Dragapult. Will o Wisp is a fun alternative as well to Psychic. Teams such as fighting without Tauros-Blaze would struggle immensely against this set. It also allows Volcarona to play a more supportive role throughout the match, catching switchins such as Clodsire or Garchomp. Will o Wisp also guarantees it's ability to beat Kingambit without Sucker Games, and teams that lack will o absorbers will find incredible difficulty in breaking through. An alternative EV spread with less defense in place of more special defense has it's own merits as well, allowing your bug team to have a more viable special sponge in Volcarona-capable of pivoting into mons such as Scarf Sandy Shocks, with an alternative spread of 252HP/108+Def/72Spd/84Spe still allowing Volcarona to capably answer physical attackers while having much more reliable rolls against threats such as specs Power Gem Flutter while at +1.

Trading in bulk for immediate power, you would most likely notice the difference in this set vs. types such as Ground. The immediate damage in Fire Blast is wanted here, though Flamethrower and Fiery Dance serve as more accurate alternatives, though of course - they miss out on KOs that Fire blast would have. Psychic allows Volc to hit threats such as Tauros-Blaze and Toxapex, and Giga Drain serves as both a form of recovery as well as a way to hit bulky waters. Ordinarily, max speed/special attack is wanted on this set with a timid nature. With the lack of base 100 speed mons in todays gen, Modest is listed as a form of consideration as well. Allowing Volc to deal slightly more damage to threats such as Dondozo, but also capable of outspeeding mons base 86 speed and lower. Vs. types such as Water and Poison, this loss in speed would not be noticed. You would primarily notice the lack in speed in the Ground and Fighting mu, with the threat of Great Tusk. The nature is listed as an alternative as it does have merit, but be aware that Great Tusk is often a mon you need to prepare for - especially on non Vivillon builds.
