Project UU Next Best Thing Crown Tundra Edition: Week 52: Slowking | Voting Phase

:ss/tangrowth:

Tangrowth @ Choice Specs
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 36 HP / 252 SpA / 220 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nature Power
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb
- Focus Blast

Pair this with Indeedee and this Tangrowth can fire off a very powerful Nature Power in Psychic Terrain. Tangrowth also has a good SpA stat so it can use the other attacks well, too. Speed is to creep mons that creep Conk.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Tangrowth Nature Power (90 BP Psychic) vs. 252 HP / 36 SpD Amoonguss in Psychic Terrain: 430-506 (99.5 - 117.1%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

Tickle Tangrowth

Tangrowth @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Sludge Bomb
- Tickle

Here we have a support Tangrowth with the addition of HD-Boots in order to avoid passive damage from hazards, and Tickle in order to support your teammates or muscle through the opposing physical threats.
I really like the fact that this allows Tangrowth to stomach physical hits more reliably (if the damage is less than 1/3rd, you can switch-out Tangrowth to heal), while dealing more damage with Knock Off.

0 Atk Tangrowth Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. -1 252 HP / 0 Def Jirachi: 210-248 (51.9 - 61.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Trapper Tangrowth

Tangrowth @ Leftovers/Lum Berry
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leech Seed/Toxic
- Substitute
- Protect
- Block

Due to Tangrowths incredible bulk it can come in and try to trap weaker physical attackers like krook, gyara, or lead excadrill.

Additionally, thanks to regenerator this set can still double as a pivot to set seeds and provide support on more balanced teams.

Below are some of the physical attackers that this in theory should be able to trap:

252 Atk Gyarados Ice Fang vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 86-102 (21.2 - 25.2%) -- 0% chance to 4HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Excadrill Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 109-129 (26.9 - 31.9%) -- 30.1% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Krookodile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 136-162 (33.6 - 40%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Zygarde-10% Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 151-178 (37.3 - 44%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Tough Claws Lycanroc-Dusk Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 126-149 (31.1 - 36.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Jirachi Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 86-102 (21.2 - 25.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

Quiet/Brave
EVs:252 Att / 252 SpA / 4 HP
-Sleep Powder
-Leaf Storm
-Earthquake
-Ancient Power

i don't like any of these sets so far so i ned to submit my own. i bet this will destroy darm leads a fifth of the time and mienshao planning to run away. that's about it really

LOL I BET U THINK I'M SHIT

This thing has less dimensions than 2D.

Eject Pack Tangrowth
:ss/tangrowth:
Tangrowth @ Eject Pack:eject pack:
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb
- Knock Off
- Earthquake

The basic principal of this set is to be a pivot to stuff that threatens what would counter/check it, especially Salamence. Activate Eject Pack, get out, and grab momentum. It's certainly a gimmick, but in the right situation it can turn unfavorable matchups on their heads due to how offensively linear this tier is. EVs and moveset are really up to you, I don't know the intricacies of Tangrowth because I don't use it enough or play UU casually apart from the random few weeks I'm interested in it. Leaf Storm + Giga Drain probably isn't a bad deal, especially as it often relies on a consistent STAB (I.E. not Leaf Storm).

Tangrowth @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 140 Atk / 252 SpA / 116 Spe
Naive Nature
- Solar Beam
- Knock Off
- Rock Slide
- Focus Blast

Attempt at using Tangrowth on sun. Generally you shouldn't run this over Venusaur but alongside it. It provides exactly two things, and those are 1// Knocking Chansey (and Mandibuzz ig) so Venu doesn't have to dedicate a moveslot to that and 2// giving Sun a switch-in to Zydog because lmao imagine using a grass that doesn't resist ground and isn't amoon

Given speed lets it outrun Zydog and Starmie with Chlorophyll boost. Max speed lets it outrun stuff like Scarf Togekiss and +1 Gyarados but is not recommended. With maximum SpA and Life Orb, Focus Blast will always OHKO standard Hydreigon and comes very close to doing the same with Zarude (you get a oneshot after rocks, but Zarude is probably either Scarf or Boots). Rock Slide with a Naive nature is to prevent Moltres from abusing it, as it always oneshots every set bar SubToxic, who dies over 90% of the time regardless. It also kills ThunT around 70%. Solar Beam is there for the raw damage output since you're missing out on Growth to let Giga Drain get kills. It gets the oneshot on Azelf and every relevant Primarina, but somehow misses out on Slowking. It also still has Tang bulk, somewhat, so even with LO and no investment you can tank some priority/scarf/uninvested/resisted/whatever isn't a dedicated wallbreaking move on the physical side.

Alternate moves are Sleep Powder to at least somewhat punish Mence and Celes, Sludge Bomb for Bulu and opposing Tangrowth and Earthquake for a oneshot on Nihi but good luck fitting them. You can also go fully physical with Brick Break over Focus Blast but mind you're missing out on like every oneshot, but I guess Rock Slide now 2HKOs Salamence, you don't get an embarrassing 2HKO on Slowking with a 120BP Grass move and you actually beat Chansey after Knocking it?

Yes this is gimmicky af and gets abused to hell and back by Celesteela, Bulu (though you can bluff Sludge Bomb maybe), Amoonguss, Salamence and Roserade (Knock into Rock Slide can kill if both are near-max rolls but that's not happening) but y'all wanted to squeeze versatility out of Tangrowth of all things.

252 SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Solar Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Zygarde-10%: 259-305 (104 - 122.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Solar Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Azelf: 304-359 (104.4 - 123.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Solar Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 286-337 (94.3 - 111.2%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Solar Beam vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Nihilego: 179-212 (49.7 - 58.8%) -- 73% chance to 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Tentacruel: 195-230 (53.5 - 63.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Solar Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Excadrill: 320-378 (88.6 - 104.7%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock (SpD always lives but also does like 30% back at most)
252 SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 124+ SpD Primarina: 330-390 (90.6 - 107.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Vaporeon: 471-556 (101.5 - 119.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO (suck it uu cord)

252 SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Hydreigon: 330-390 (101.5 - 120%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge / Life Orb
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Rapid Spin / Knock Off
- Poison Jab
- Waterfall

This Tentacruel aims to become a physical sweeping threat using Swords Dance. It has a few options in terms of moves; you can use Rapid Spin to allow Tentacruel to outspeed slower offensive threats, turning it into a double dance sweeper, or Knock Off for increased coverage and better utility. Black Sludge can be used to help bluff the standard defensive set, or Life Orb can be used to increase Tentacruel's somewhat disappointing physical damage.

Acid Spray Tentacruel

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Sludge Bomb
- Acid Spray
- Rapid Spin

General idea
I took a standard defensive set, and I slapped Acid Spray over Knock Off on Tentacruel, in order to use it as a wallbreaker alongside its two main STAB (Scald+Sludge Bomb) that now are much more impactful.

:Tentacruel:
Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Def / 36 SpA / 144 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Sludge Bomb
- Rapid Spin
- Icy Wind

Bit of a weird set but takes advantage of Icy Wind's Speed drop to hardcore troll 'Mence (And the more fringe Noivern, doesn't outspeed that but takes a hit fine and 2HKOs). Special Attack EVs guarantee the 2HKO on said Salamence (4SpD on Mence actually gives it a .4% chance to live LOL...so a bit of a stretch but yeah. 32 SpA EVs can also work if you don't care about that and want the +4 Defense EVs but that's kinda specific haha). Doesn't just do that though. Makes revenge killing sweepers easier if they try and set up on Tentacruel assuming they have a free win from there. Losing Knock Off feels a bit bad but other than that it's a really fun set. Pairs well with Krookodile who can cover that front and also appreciates the Speed drops.

Cheers!

Celesteela and Amoonguss can't recover hp due to liquid ooze
0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tentacruel: 93-109 (25.5 - 29.9%) -- 0.2% chance to 4HKO after Black Sludge recovery

Tentacruel @ Air Balloon
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Scald / Hydro Pump
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain

Offensive spinner Tentacruel… with a twist! Air Balloon lets Tenta switch into Ground-types, avoid Ground STAB, and forces them to use a weaker move to hit Tenta, letting the latter either blast them with a Water move or get a free Rapid Spin off. And as it turns out, Tentacruel has decent coverage and a nice speed tier to boot, so even with a measly 80 SpAtk stat, its still capable of exerting a decent amount of offensive pressure. As this Tenta doesn't invest in HP or SpDef and lacks Black Sludge, additional checks to Celesteela, Moltres, Primarina, etc are recommended.

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Haze
- Scald
- Toxic
- Rapid Spin

Did you know Tentacruel can outspeed Hydreigon? This set is meant to act as an emergency catch-all to boosting mons otherwise hard to handle, like Nasty Plot Hydreigon, Calm Mind Keldeo, Azumarill, offensive Celesteela and a couple more if you don't mind dying after a suicide Haze. Even with nothing but HP investment, it has enough special bulk to tank hits from almost all setup sweepers and undo their hard work, and the fact you actually outrun a very significant amount of them definitely helps. Do note that because of its lack of recovery, this is more of an emergency stop button than something you can actually consistently switch in on boosters to stop them.

Scald and Spin are to do basic Tenta stuff beyond this gimmick, and Toxic is the best way you're actually damaging Hydrei and Keldeo. Sludge Bomb can be run over Toxic or Spin to break Primarina's and Keldeo's Sub more quickly. You can run standard Tentacruel defensive EVs and still handle stuff like Keldeo, Celes and Primarina as well as do regular Tentacruel stuff more consistently, but then you get outsped and killed by NP+Meteor Hydreigon.

I actually wanted Acid Spray but someone took that within the first hour tf

HOW TO PISS OF EVERY MON IN THE GAME (Tentacruel) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 72 Def / 184 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
- Knock Off

BW/10 this is frustrating as hell to play against as toxic poisons anything such as slowking, hydreigon, salamence, swampert, seismitoad, and many more. Knock off removes recovery and annoys most pokemon who hate losing their items, and scald hits every pokemon who is immune to toxic
