Lures have been around in Pokemon for a long time, they act as a way for your team to beat an otherwise unbeatable wall or stop to your sweeper. Lures are Pokemon that use sets to draw in their usual counters and expose of them with surprise. This can also mean either KO'ing, weakening, or crippling them for a teammate to take them on more effectively. Lures are a tad uncommon, and some people just use flat out bad lures. A lure may be good for one thing, but sacrificing a key component is not a good lure. For example, running Magic Coat on Klinklang seems good in theory, bouncing back Taunts, Thunder Waves, and Will-O-Wisps; however, this means Klinklang can only use it once, effectively making it somewhat useless and easy to predict around. You end up being prone to being outplayed, making it more detrimental than beneficial. Lures should be able to consistently be as / more effective than their normal counterparts. So this is how the project will work:

1. Similar to other projects, each week I will nominate a common wall or threat that teams typically struggle with. Over the following week, the NU community will nominate the lures they've been using to handle said wall or threat. Please provide calcs and evidence for your lures. This is different to the 'counter that threat' thread, where checks and counters are always more obvious than lures.

2. After the week has passed, I will pick a winner for best lure for the named threat or wall, and possibly a runner up and third place depending on number of entries.

3. The winner and their lure will be saved and recorded.

Things to consider when nominating a lure:

1. Does this Pokemon have to sacrifice anything important? If you're losing a key part of a set just for an uncommon threat that isn't even lured in that well, it's not worth it and this is a bad lure.

2. Does this Pokemon consistently perform its role? If you're sacrificing too much and not benefiting on a regular basis, it's not a good lure.

3. Does this Pokemon gain anything important when using this moveset? The contrary to point number one, does this pokemon or the team benefit from the lure.

4. Could this method be better aided through teammates? Does your lure need team support to carry out it's role effectively.

Important:

Example of a Good lure:

Heliolisk @ Choice Specs
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hyper Voice
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Surf

Heliolisk struggles to break through the up-and-rising Torterra that can stomach Hyper Voice rather comfortably and deny Volt Switch altogether. HP Ice is a viable lure that allows it to draw in Torterra and weaken it to a point it wouldn't be able to reliably deter Volt Switch.

+2 252 Atk Incineroar Malicious Moonsault vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Seismitoad: 466-549 (112.5 - 132.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Leftovers recovery

Swords dance can ohko a physically defensive seismitoad with malicious moonsault.Homever, with some speed evs you can always switch on sd incineroar set and use hydro vortex to ohko him.

252+ SpA Seismitoad Hydro Vortex (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Incineroar: 470-554 (141.9 - 167.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Decidueye @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Low Sweep
- Leaf Blade
- Spirit Shackle
- Swords Dance

just click that super effective z move against the perfect counter type, not a 100% ko but needs really minor chip to beat the cat after a swords dance
+1 252 Atk Decidueye All-Out Pummeling (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Incineroar: 374-440 (94.9 - 111.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

PILZ

Banned deucer.

Vaporeon @ Normalium Z
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump/Surf
- Celebrate
- Ice Beam
- Shadow Ball

252 SpA Vaporeon Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Incineroar: 350-414 (105.7 - 125%)
252 SpA Vaporeon Surf vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Incineroar: 288-338 (87 - 102.1%)

His signature Zmove OHKO defensive vaporeon if +2, but with this set vaporeon outspeeds incineroar and always OHKO with hydro pump, or OHKO after a bit of prior damage with surf.

- Dark Pulse

NP as the cat comes in and bop him with cash +2 normalium. As long as you pair it with something that handles Diancie this set do really good work at luring the cat and also can be useful to beat yama and guzz

+2 252 SpA Houndoom Breakneck Blitz (200 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Incineroar: 420-495 (126.8 - 149.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Sceptile @ Groundium Z
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant/Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Leaf Blade
- Rock Slide
- Swords Dance

SD on the hard Cat switch, then Groundium it into it's grave. Adamant makes sure it dies after rocks 70% of time unboosted after intimidate or if they're running Blaze for some reason, Adamant OHKOs with unboosted Z Earthquake. Jolly outspeeds alot more, but sacrifices power, however, it lets you speed tie with opposing Sceptile, and Minior. Earthquake is the main tool for hitting Incineroar and other fire/steel types that would resists sceptile's STAB leaf blade. Rockslide is for Aero, Golbat, and Brav. SD boosts sceptile's attack, letting it at +2 2hko Defensive Golbat.

Sneasel @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off
- Low Kick

Sets up on switch outs mostly, +2 Low Kick beats Hariyama and steel-types that checks Band Sneasel usually, and OHKO Incineroar at +1 with some chip damage. This set works better against balanced teams, the lack of priority makes it less effective against offensive teams. Icium Z can be used to beat Diancie and Audino Mega but Life Orb is better overall. Fightium Z is an option to beat Steelix, Miltank and Incineroar and avoid the residual damage that Life Orb causes. Works better with Spikes support.

+1 252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Low Kick (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Incineroar: 299-354 (90.3 - 106.9%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 244 HP / 0 Def Steelix: 296-351 (84 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Hariyama: 412-485 (96 - 113%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

Braviary (M) @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Superpower
- Brave Bird
- Roost

Braviary with ZFight can give 1KO to Incineroar, also he can not be intimidated.

252 Atk Braviary All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Incineroar: 432-510 (109.6 - 129.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Braviary All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Incineroar: 432-510 (130.5 - 154%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Mismagius @ Rockium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball
- Power Gem
- Protect

nasty plot mismagius is capable of successfully luring sd incineroar by plowing through it with rockium z, tect to scout pass, lisk and any other choice locked mon

252 SpA Mismagius Continental Crush (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Incineroar: 328-388 (99 - 117.2%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

-----

Rotom @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice] / Signal Beam

not as effective as mismagius, but still manages to surprise incoming incineroars, with volt doing half and after rocks bringing it down significantly, punishing unexpectant foes greatly

252 SpA Choice Specs Rotom Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Incineroar: 151-178 (45.6 - 53.7%) -- 43.4% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Rotom Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Incineroar: 195-229 (58.9 - 69.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Crunch

- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge

There is one main drawback that will probably invalidate this set which is the loss of eviolite. Yea you lose eviolite, but you kill Slowbro after rocks, which can open a window for wallbreakers and or sweepers to finish up the game. Z Crunch is a pretty fun lure, i've been using it on some alts and ive made about 10 people forfeit after losing their Slowbro to Z Crunch Rhydon. Crunch is obviously the key part of this set as it allows Rhydon to use Black Hole Eclipse. Stealth rocks for some utility, and EQ and Stone Edge for STAB. However, it probably won't kill 100% unless you have rocks up. Proof of damage:

252+ Atk Rhydon Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 212 HP / 0 Def Slowbro: 352-416 (91.6 - 108.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Rhydon Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 212 HP / 0 Def Slowbro: 352-416 (91.6 - 108.3%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Anyways, have a good day everyone.

imo a better lure than the above because it doesn't take up your Z-Move slot

Maybe, maybe not if you factor in missing mega horn, and it doesn't ohko.

Slowking @ Buginium Z / Colbur Berry
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 136 SpA / 24 SpD / 16 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Signal Beam / Grass Knot

cool set i've been using lately, idea is to break past common switch-ins to this thing like slowbro, guzz, sneas, grass-types, and acting more of a nuke with z-move against helio. Although grass knot is 100% usable as well, nailing fat waters like toad and toise.

+2 136+ SpA Slowking Signal Beam vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Slowbro: 218-258 (56.7 - 67.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 136+ SpA Slowking Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Slowbro: 232-274 (60.4 - 71.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Slowbro Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 248 HP / 24 SpD Slowking: 146-172 (37.1 - 43.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

AV slowbro can switch on a standard palossand without risk. What about if he takes a never-ending-nightmare from full SPA palossand?

212+ SpA Palossand Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Slowbro: 372-438 (96.8 - 114%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

Also good to pressure golbat, diancie and slowking

Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Spin
- Solar Beam
- Fire Blast
- Dazzling Gleam

the snagaphox is a cool lure which can abuse slowbro pivotting on delphox to catch it with fire spin and get rid of it with z-solar beam

252 SpA Delphox Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Slowbro: 304-358 (79.1 - 93.2%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock (has a good chance to kill after fire spin end turn damage, always kills if rocks are up)

ps: 252+ SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Delphox: 240-284 (82.4 - 97.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (if needed you can tank one scald from slowbro if you are at full and rocks aren't up on your side of the field)

ps2:

Delphox @ Leftovers
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 248 HP / 124 Def / 136 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic
- Wish
- Protect
- Mystical Fire

this set is also a good ''lure'' (it's more standard ig) since you can cripple slowbro with toxic and aside from crits you can actually wishtect stall it with the help of mystical fire spa drop.

-1 252+ SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Delphox: 162-192 (45.8 - 54.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
-2 252+ SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Delphox: 120-144 (33.9 - 40.7%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery (assuming you mf on slowbro switch and mf again as slowbro scalds)

Using Houndoom again because why not. Diancie usually counters Houndoom since its STABs are resisted by Diancie, but with HP Steel it becomes able to bypass Diancie, although you'll need something that handles Guzz/Yama/Incine
