[overview]
**Draft order**: Round 3 and beyond
**Price range**: 14-15 points
**Overview**: Urshifu-R makes a mark in Draft due to its excellent offensive wallbreaking and sweeping capabilities, especially when made a Tera Captain. With a strong dual typing in addition to a high Attack stat, Urshifu-R can be incredibly difficult to check defensively. This is only made more difficult by the common use of Tera, setup options, and damage boosting items which all allow Urshifu-R to force significant progress each time it switches in and potentially sweep games. Despite these strengths, a mediocre Speed stat, subpar special bulk, and being severely hindered by anti-contact move measures all cause it to not be picked until round 3 or later.

Common Roles
========
**Wallbreaker**: Urshifu-R can use its overwhelming raw power due to an excellent Attack stat and powerful STAB attacks, to weaken or immediately KO a vast majority of the metagame. Due to its mediocre Speed for an offensive Pokemon, Urshifu-R is often at its best when its job is to come in safely and provide immediate damage.
**Setup sweeper**: Setup variations of Urshifu-R use its access to Attack-boosting moves such as Swords Dance and Bulk Up, for easier KOs and can also use Trailblaze to boost its mediocre Speed, making Urshifu-R less easy to revenge kill. With good timing, these sets turn Urshifu-R into an incredibly potent win condition.
Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Surging Strikes, Close Combat, Low Kick, Drain Punch, Aqua Jet
**Setup moves**: Swords Dance, Trailblaze, Bulk Up
**Utility moves**: U-turn, Taunt, Substitute, Brick Break
**Coverage**: Ice Spinner, Poison Jab, Iron Head, Thunder Punch, Stone Edge, Zen Headbutt, Fire Punch
Niche Moves
========
**Acrobatics**: Acrobatics may be used on sets featuring a consumable item to provide stronger coverage against certain Pokemon such as Grass-types.
Common Items
========
**Protective Pads/Punching Glove**: These items are used to allow Urshifu-R to safely utilize its plethora of contact moves without being punished by Rocky Helmet or abilities such as Static and Flame Body. If Urshifu-R plans on only using punching moves, then the damage boost from Punching Glove is appreciated; otherwise, Protective Pads are optimal.
**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf is used for Urshifu-R to overcome its middling Speed stat, allowing it to fire off additional attacks and function more effectively as a fast pivot.
**Choice Band**: Choice Band is a commonly used item to further reduce the list of Pokemon that may switch into Urshifu-R while also allowing it to wallbreak with increased ease.
**Mystic Water / Black Belt**: This item may be used to hit certain damage thresholds without locking Urshifu-R into one move.
Niche Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers may find use on bulkier setup oriented sets that use moves such as Substitute and Bulk Up, to increase Urshifu-R's longevity.
**Lum Berry**: Lum Berry can be used when facing teams that easily spread burn and paralysis, allowing Urshifu-R to maintain effectiveness. It also can be used to set up on a status move with an element of surprise and increased safety.
**Resistance Berries**: These Berries will be useful in situations where you anticipate needing Urshifu-R to live a super effective hit to set up. These also pair well with sets that use Acrobatics, as consumption will bring Acrobatics to full power.
**Mental Herb**: Mental Herb will be occasionally found on setup sets, allowing Urshifu-R to shrug off Taunt or Encore from a foe in an attempt to prevent it from setting up.
**Clear Amulet**: Clear Amulet can be effective when facing a handful of Intimidate Pokemon that resist Surging Strikes.
Tera
========
Urshifu-R is a great user of Tera and should primarily be drafted to make it a Tera Captain. Urshifu-R is one the premier users to choose same-type Tera in order to enable its wallbreaking capabilities even further. Some common offensive options include using Tera Electric to break bulkier Water-types and avoid paralysis, Tera Ice to break certain Grass- and Flying-types, and Tera Poison or Steel to break certain Fairy-types. On bulkier setup variants, defensive options such as Tera Fairy, Dragon, and Steel, may be used to provide extra turns to set up and sweep.
Draft Strategy
========
Although this may not be the premier Pokemon you build your team around, Tera Urshifu-R can be a very overwhelming threat if positioned well. This Pokemon can cover your wallbreaking needs excellently, allowing your late-game cleaners to thrive, and can also make for a fantastic setup wincon. That being said, Urshifu-R has its share of flaws that cause it to be a middle-round pick and need to be covered for.
**Knock Off support**: Urshifu-R is a huge benefactor of teammates that can repeatedly remove items from foes. Removing Rocky Helmet from Pokemon on the opposing team can open up Urshifu-R to have far more item flexibility and use Choice Band or Choice Scarf with minimized risk. Tornadus-T, Meowscarada, and Iron Treads can all accomplish this effectively.
**Late-game cleaners**: Being a premier wallbreaker, Urshifu-R is excellent at weakening the opposing defensive backbones, allowing your other Pokemon to clean up games. Early-round options, such as Darkrai and Latios, fill this role impeccably as Urshifu-R breaks through many of their respective checks.
**Reliable pivots**: Due to its lackluster Special Defence and mediocre Speed, Urshifu-R appreciates reliable pivoting to bring it onto the field safely and in favorable positions. Pokemon such as Tornadus-T, Zapdos, and Meowscarada can reliably bring Urshifu-R on the field in a position to wallbreak.
**Additonal wallbreaking**: While slightly overlapping with the role of Urshifu-R, another wallbreaker can be very supplemental to its success. On non-setup sets, Urshifu-R appreciates complementary wallbreakers that can threaten its checks and take advantage of Urshifu-R’s pivoting with U-turn. Pokemon such as Latios, Iron Moth, and Raging Bolt fit this role and are appreciated if you wish for setup Urshifu-R to be a primary wincon on your draft.
Checks and Counters
========
**Faster offensive threats**: Although incredibly strong and able to boost its Speed, Urshifu-R starts out with a mediocre Speed stat. Faster offensive threats with type advantages such as Tornadus-T, Iron Valiant, and Enamorus can force out Urshifu-R.
**Bulky physical walls**: While Urshifu-R is very difficult to check, there are a number of Pokemon that have the bulk and resistances that allow them to check Urshifu-R. Pokemon such as Scream Tail, Toxapex, and Latias are examples. This can be circumvented by pivoting with U-turn, setting up, and having the right coverage move options.
**Rocky Helmet**: While having strong physical STAB moves is Urshifu-R’s blessing, it can also be a curse. Having a multi-hit contact move as its most prolific attack can be easily punished by the aforementioned physical walls equipping a Rocky Helmet. This can be avoided by using Protective Pads or Punching Glove to prevent contact.
