Unpopular Opinions: Scarlet & Violet Edition

Applin.

I’ve done over the course of the last year at least one or two shiny hunts for applin a week.

I’ve caught exactly zero shiny applin.

In virtually all other shiny hunts I’ve caught one or two shiny examples. But this one feels incredibly frustrating.

Just watching single examples of applin throw themselves to oblivion at Koraidons hands from the single tree in tanglewood thicket.

It basically confirms my view that catching mechanics like the Pokemon on tree branches is pretty flawed and really poorly done.

I’d probably still say that if I caught a shiny one now.

Tl;dr - tree catching mechanics are awful and need changing for the next game.
Why are you hunting in the Tangle instead of the apple field in Kitakami?

If you use outbreaks, they're all on the ground. Also try hunting near the Tera salandit in east province. There are 3 trees that you can cycle pretty easily.

They're all over the ground there, and the trees.
Rather than a single tree in one of the laggiest parts of the game.

Why is everyone on YouTube clamouring to use that specific tree in tangle then? Is there something I’m missing?

Because the other location sounds significantly better for shiny hunting!

I assume, without looking into it more, that thetree is used because you can just completely AFK it since its' fully automated

Which is what you were doing and just being very bored and unlucky about it

Whenever you're in the water, the pickup items are ALL FEATHERS. It literally makes no sense, as you could definitely make more water-themed items. It's fine for a while, but it soon gets repetitive. There's not even a lore explanation either. Sure, maybe they're wingull feathers or something, but there's no way there are that many in the water.

I think the game needs an option to turn off the exp. share. It was too easy leveling up. Even when using a secondary team. I ended up sticking to only story battles to stop leveling up so quickly. If one of the main points of the game is building the team I want, then why can't I control if I want the whole team to gain exp. or not? I can't say I remember any issues grinding the old games. I guess because I was doing the dex, I would stay in the area to see if anything of interest would show up. So I'd battle any encounter but stop when the exp. gain slowed down. So I rarely, if at all, needed to back track. But with SV because the exp. is always on it messes with the pacing and challenge. And I don't really see the reason to go back and fight the trainers I've skipped. Need exp? I have exp.candy. Money? I just use LP. Love the game, but I did have issues with the pacing :pikuh:

The pokedex in the base game is godawful. The amount of mons in the game that have middling to awful stats or late availability cheapens the game immensely for me
Did we play the same game? You can get all of Magikarp, Gastly, Azurill, Ralts, and Flamigo before even arriving at Los Platos, all of which are really good at smashing through the game. Your options keep expanding after Mesagoza, including multiple pseudo legends at low levels a short trip away from Cortondo. Are you expecting to find Calyrex before your first badge? Or do you think the existence of Pokémon like Lechonk makes the game worse?

No it's just that the amount of great mons you get are vastly outnumbered by the ones that have virtually nothing going for them. It's even worse with the Teal Mask DLC where over half of them are incredibly underwhelming

I feel like that's just a Pokemon thing in general. When your roster includes several hundred monsters, the majority of them aren't going to be particularly useful, whether by design or by accident.
