[Overview]

Toxapex is a defensive behemoth in the OU metagame, with a stellar defensive typing and sky high defensive stats. Its access to a wide range of viable utility options in both its movepool and item slots such as Knock Off, Scald and Shed Shell allows it to blanket check and punish most of the threats in the tier on switchin. Regenerator lets Toxapex safely scout most choiced breakers with little risk, due to the health recovering nature on switching out, and then pivoting into an appropriate resist. Its EV investment is very customisable; Specially Defensive spreads help check Aegislash, Volcarona, Dragapult, Volcanion, and Reuniclus while Defensive sets excel at checking Weavile, Scizor, Barraskewda, Hawlucha, and Urshifu. However, these Pokemon pose a threat to Toxapex when paired with Future Sight support. Other bulky Water types such as Tapu Fini, Slowbro and Slowking pose competition to Toxapex, as they are more natural fits on offense teams due to less passivity and less momentum sinking issues, the latter having the tool of Teleport and providing Future Sight support for the team.

[SET COMMENTS

Toxapex's access to both Knock Off and Scald punishes every switchin in the meta bar Clefable and opposing Toxapex. This cripples Pokemon that would otherwise force it out; through either item removal or Scald burns and aiding its teammates to win in the long term. Toxic works similarly to this, forcing constant chip to benefit its allies. Light Screen can be employed to cover its weakness to Future Sight, and better check threats such as Volcarona, Volcanion, and Slowking-Galar. 144 Defense EVs with an Impish nature allow Toxapex to come in on Weavile safely and haze off any boosts, then threaten it out with Scald while 112 Special Defense EVs help it check Dragapult. When equipped with a Shed Shell, Toxapex can switch in to Heatran and Tapu Fini to remove their Leftovers, then pivot into a soft check and regen health back. However it must be wary of Choice Scarf Trick variants of Tapu Fini.

Toxapex excels on fatter Balance teams, being able to form Regenerator cores with the likes of Tornadus-Therian and Slowking-Galar. Other partners include Buzzwole, Skarmory, Landorus-Therian, and Corviknight - these can all alleviate pressure on Toxapex from Zeraora and Weavile and decrease risk of it being overwhelmed. Weavile, Zeraora, Dragapult, and Tapu Koko all benefit from Toxapex's constant chip against the enemy team to enable them to win in the long term. Weavile in particular can act as a buffer in the case of a Shadow Ball from Dragapult getting a Special Defense drop.

A Toxapex with Toxic Spikes can be used along with a wincon such as Zeraora or Tapu Koko to chip down their checks, like Hippowdon and Gastrodon, ensuring they outlast them. However the high presence of opposing Toxapex, Slowking-Galar and Heavy Duty Boots can disregard this; along with the fact that it has to contend with one of Toxic, Scald and Light Screen. Poison Jab can be used on it too, to threaten Calm Mind Tapu Fini and Clefable. Payapa Berry is another option for an item, which allows Toxapex to lure and Knock Off Tapu Lele's Choice Specs or tank a Future Sight, although this suffers for the same reason that it sacrifices utility in Black Sludge or Shed Shell.

Checks and Counters

**Future Sight**: When paired with Future Sight support from Slowking, Slowking-Galar or Slowbro, Pokemon such as Urshifu, Melmetal, Dragapult, and Weavile overwhelm Toxapex with their STABs and Future Sight damage at the end of the turn.

**Ground Types**: Landorus-Therian, Hippowdon and Garchomp can all force Toxapex out with their STAB Earthquakes, however they must be wary of switching in due to fear of Scald burning them.

**Tapu Lele**: Tapu Lele threatens to OHKO Toxapex with its explosive STABs, boosted by Psychic Terrain, or Future Sight support on Choice Scarf. However, Toxapex can threaten it on the switch with a Knock Off, severely limiting it throughout the game.

**Electric Types**: Tapu Koko and Zeraora both do a very good job of scaring Toxapex out with their electric STABs and abusing it as an opportunity to gain momentum with either Volt Switch or U-Turn, although a Knock Off or Scald burn dissuade these from switching in.

Toxapex is a defensive behemoth in the OU metagame, with a stellar defensive typing and sky high defensive stats. Its In tandem with its access to a wide range of viable utility options in both its movepool and item slots such as Knock Off, Scald, and Shed Shell Haze I dont think item slots fall under the utility category, and Haze should've been mentioned eitherway; its a key aspect that makes the pex as good as it is. allows it to blanket check and punish most of the threats in the tier on switchin. Regenerator lets Toxapex safely scout most choices breakers with little risk, due to the health recovering nature on switching out, and then pivoting into an appropriate resist answer. Its EV investment is very customisable; Specially Defensive spreads help check Aegislash, Volcarona, Dragapult, Volcanion, and Reuniclus while Defensive sets excel at checking Weavile, Scizor, Barraskewda, Hawlucha, and Urshifu. Cut down the mentions to 3 or 4 each. However, these Pokemon pose a threat to are capable of breaking through Toxapex when paired with Future Sight support. i cannot figure out a good way to word this but i think that emphasizing how common Future Sight is good here Tapu Fini poses competition to Toxapex, as it is a more natural fit on offense teams due to less passivity and less momentum sinking issues. Expand this part to bulky Water-types in general, also focus more on its downsides and how it hates the amount of powerful breakers in the current meta.

(Mention why sludge is the preferred item). However, Shed Shell can also be used to allow Toxapex to better scout Heatran and Tapu Fini, without fearing getting trapped.144 Defense EVs with an Impish nature allow Toxapex to come in on Weavile safely and haze off any boosts, then threaten it out with Scald while 112 Special Defense EVs are used to always live a Modest Choice Specs Kyurem Freeze Dry from full, as well helping it check foes like Dragapult and Volcarona better . However it must be wary of Choice Scarf Trick variants of Tapu Fini. Moved sentences around to follow the template while removing some fluff, adding some additional comments, and generally making it easier to read

**Future Sight**: When paired with Future Sight support from Slowking, Slowking-Galar or Slowbro, Pokemon such as Urshifu, Melmetal, Dragapult, and Weavile overwhelm Toxapex with their STABs and Future Sight damage at the end of the turn. which Toxapex wants to check, such as Urshifu-R, Melmemtal, and Weavile are able to overwhelm it thanks to the additional damage from Future Sight.

**Ground Types**: Landorus-Therian, Hippowdon and Garchomp can all force Toxapex out with their STAB Earthquakes, however they must be wary of switching in due to fear of Scald burning them. Maybe mention nidoking and driller here?

**Psychic Types**: Tapu Lele threatens to OHKO Toxapex with its explosive STABs, boosted by Psychic Terrain, or Future Sight support on Choice Scarf; although it should be wary of switching in to a Knock Off and losing its item. add more examples or change this to "tapu lele" instead of psychic types, alternatively you could also merge this with the future sight part.

**Electric Types**: Tapu Koko and Zeraora both do a very good job of scaring Toxapex out with their electric STABs and abusing it as an opportunity to gain momentum with either Volt Switch or U-Turn, but neither of these appreciate a Knock Off or Scald Burn.

i think substitute/mguard users might warrant a paragraph here, on how sub kyu / corv / arctozolt take advantage of Toxapex's passivity meanwhile Reuni / Clef arent really bothered by it outside of Knock Off.

Toxapex is a defensive behemoth in the OU metagame, with a stellar defensive typing and sky high defensive stats (add regenator here, and expand who these traits lets it check top tier threats.). Its access to a wide range of viable utility options in both its movepool and item slots such as Knock Off and Scald and Shed Shell allows it to blanket check and punish most of the threats in the tier on switching. (items aren't really something you talk about unless its a specific thing that makes it stand out, also talk about how it able to make progress by constantly wearing down the opposing team.) Regenerator lets Toxapex safely scout most choiced breakers with little risk, due to the health recovering nature on switching out, and then pivoting into an appropriate resist. Its EV investment is very customisable; Specially Defensive spreads help check Aegislash, Volcarona, Dragapult, Volcanion, and Reuniclus while Defensive sets excel at checking Weavile, Scizor, Barraskewda, Hawlucha, and Urshifu. (this drags on, just talk about it both its defensive stats let it check Volcarona, Urshifu-R, and Weavile.) However, these Pokemon pose a threat to Toxapex when paired with Future Sight support. (would make its own comment here how toxapex is passive and has little to no offensive pressence outside of only making progress from spreading status and Knock Off.) Other bulky Water-types such as Tapu Fini, Slowbro and Slowking (irrelevant mon) pose competition to Toxapex, as they are more natural fits on offense teams due to less passivity and less momentum sinking issues, the latter having the tool of Teleport and providing Future Sight support for the team.

Toxapex's access to both Knock Off and Scald punishes every switchin in the meta bar Clefable and opposing Toxapex (like Pannu said neither of these wants to lose their item). This cripples Pokemon that would otherwise force it out; through either item removal or Scald burns and aiding its teammates to win in the long term. Toxic works similarly to this, forcing constant chip to benefit its allies. (add to this how Toxic can be helpful in putting things on a timer from switch, like Volcarona, Kyurem, and Dragapult.) Light Screen can be employed to cover its weakness to Future Sight, and better check threats such as Volcarona, Volcanion, and Slowking-Galar. 144 Defense EVs with an Impish nature allow Toxapex to come in on Weavile safely and haze off any boosts, then threaten it out with Scald while 112 Special Defense EVs help it check Dragapult. (this sentence drags on for no reason, like Pannu you can reword this to how The 112 Special Defense EVs lets Toxapex serving Choice Specs Kyurem Freeze-Dry from full.) When equipped with a Shed Shell, Toxapex can switch in to Heatran and Tapu Fini to remove their Leftovers, then pivot into a soft check and regen health back.i (you are not using Shed Shell to switch into them since you really are more of using it to scout them out without fear getting trapped.) However it must be wary of Choice Scarf Trick variants of Tapu Fini. (talk about Black Sludge and how it can cripple trick users that normally beat it like Blacephalon and Tapu Fini.)

Toxapex excels on fatter Balance teams, being able to form Regenerator cores with the likes of Tornadus-Therian and Slowking-Galar. (talk about what it provides for balance teams like what does it check for them and do.) Other partners include Buzzwole, Skarmory, Landorus-Therian, and Corviknight - these can all alleviate pressure on Toxapex from Zeraora and Weavile and decrease risk of it being overwhelmed. (you can honestly break this into different sentences something of specific type partners covering Toxapex's weakness instead of clumping stuff together.) Weavile, Zeraora, Dragapult, andTapu Koko all benefit from Toxapex's constant chip against the enemy team to enable them to win in the long term. Weavile in particular can act as a buffer in the case of a Shadow Ball from Dragapult getting a Special Defense drop( you can also mention how Weavile can occasionally block Future sight for it).

**Future Sight**: When paired with Future Sight support from Slowking (slowking isn't relevant anymore best to reflect that, you can also replace it with Tapu Lele.), Slowking-Galar Galarian Slowking or Slowbro, Pokemon such as Urshifu, Melmetal, Dragapult, and Weavile overwhelm Toxapex with their STABs and Future Sight damage at the end of the turn.

**Ground Types**: Landorus-Therian, Hippowdon (Hippo's usage died down, keep it relevant with the other two.) and Garchomp can all force Toxapex out with their STAB Earthquakes, however they must be wary of switching in due to fear of Scald burning them.

**Tapu Lele**: Tapu Lele threatens to OHKO Toxapex with its explosive Psychic STABs, boosted by Psychic Terrain, (we already know that Psychic Terrain boosts Tapu Lele's move and even outside from it you take a load) or Future Sight support on from Choice Scarf. However, Toxapex can threaten it on the switch with a Knock Off severely limiting it throughout the game.

**Electric Types**: Tapu Koko and Zeraora (should add Zapdos and Regieleki to the list, as they have gotten more usage and Toxapex definitely ain't staying in on them.) both do a very good job of scaring forcing Toxapex out with their electric STABs and abusing it as an opportunity to gain momentum with either Volt Switch or U-Turn, although a Knock Off or Scald burn dissuade these from switching in. (ik I'm not in QC, tho i would say expand from this with Electric-type coverage talking about Victini and Buzzwole)
