For the past few months, I have been working with the Translation Project team (CL's Repu and Mihowk) to produce an all encompassing "master" tournament thread OP. This effort was undertaken for several reasons:
- To create one regulated tournament OP template so that users could reliably know where to flip to in order to answer questions about the tournaments across multiple tournaments.
- To enhance the understanding of the players who may not speak English fluently, or would have their Draft League experience enhanced by being able to read about the rules and formats in their native tongues.
- Produce an easily replicable template to make tournament hosts jobs easier and to cut down in the irregularities exposed from not having a standardized format from tournament to tournament.
- French, translated by Eledyr and GP'd by Swiffix
- Spanish, by Samirsin and GP'd by Grillo
- Italian, by WigglyTree and GP'd by Mihowk
- Portuguese, by MrPanda and GP'd by Repu
- Chinese, by hi.naming is hard , SirinC&Kokomi and RimarinaLOVE and GP'd by hi.naming is hard
- German done by Sificon and GP'd by Siegfried
Tournament Hosts have several responsibilities once they have been identified by Forum Moderators or Community Leaders. The individuals chosen to run tournaments on behalf of the sub-forum are hand chosen by sub-forum staff and should at all times conduct themselves with professionalism, flex a strong work ethic, as well as being as strive to be as unbiased as possible. Hosts should also feel free to reach out to forum staff or the Tournament Director team if they should come across a situation in which they need help or have questions not plainly answered. We can only put out fires that we are aware about, as an administrative team. The responsibilities for a tournament host are as follows:
- Understand the format tournament you have decided to run to the best of your ability. That understanding will be invaluable as you edit the versions of the master tournament OP below, and it is imperative that when writing the specific parameters of the tournament you are running you understand what it is they reference so you can effectively enforce the standard. Ask questions, recruit help if necessary. The translated revisions of your tournament OP must be included in each subsequent round's OP.
- We, as sub-forum staff, work to empower the tournament hosts to run the tournament autonomously so that multiple events can be ran simultaneously. This means that hosts are in charge of ensuring sheet maintenance (and the individuals who signed up to update the sheets as applicable) is done, and that the bracket is able to be released at the end of each week as applicable.
- Activity calls within each round are on the tournament host team to complete prior to the bracket being released. Ensuring bracket seeding is complete prior to the generation of the next round's matchups are vital and one of the more time consuming tasks, which is why it's so important to get these right ahead of time.
- Publishing the OPs in the appropriate sub-forum on Smogon. Each host will need certain site permissions in order to fulfill this requirement, but it's imperative that it's pushed to the competitors in a timely manner early on into the week (on Monday at the latest, preferably).
It is a requirement to publish the initial tournament forum post in all translated languages.
