Tiers of Joy: Understanding each gens ingame tiers

This will be an expansion of sorts on the intro to ingame tiers article all the way back in issue 13. With the new focus on ingame tiers in OI I plan to write about how aspects of each game have affected their respective tier lists. Along the way I will show the best competitive Pokemon that is tiered low (respective to that generation) and the worst competitive Pokemon that is tiered high and explain why they are so great/horrible ingame compared to metagame.

RBY:
-Speed or bust
-Special OP
-Psychic OP

Best non-competitive: Diglet
Worst competitive: Tauros

GSC:
-Shinies = high IV’s
-Awful difficulty balance post surf
-Red grind

Best non-competitive: Magmar
Worst competitive: Tyranitar

RSE:
-Team Magma/Aqua game differences
-Surfing
-Lack of real rival means you should never get some unexpected tough trainer.

Best non-competitive: Wingull
Worst competitive: Salamence

DP:
-The most obnoxious National Dex requirement
-The game is already really slow
-Gym members sometimes don’t use respective type and is annoying
-You get the legendary before 8th gym what is up with that

Best non-competitive: Buziel
Worst competitive: Lucario

Platinum:
-More pas gen mons pre-national dex
-Gyms have types that match this time

Best non-competitive: Rotom (standard form)
Worst competitive: Gliscor

Black/White
-The only game with all new mons
-lack of HM’s
-Reusable TM’s are godsend

Best non-competitive: Sawk
Worst competitive: Deino

Black2/White2
-Expanded species and probably the highest end level E4 on the first time
-First new game since RSE where you don’t capture the title legend before E4
-The legendary swords are handed to you on a golden platter

Best non-competitive: Lilligant
Worst competitive: Jellicent (subject to change)

Might do Colloseum/XD/FRLG/HGSS although I really don’t see much use in the limited console games and remakes. This will depend on length.

The article you mention was pretty interesting to me.
Assuming this isn't the exact same thing (which it doesn't look like it is), I support this.

You still have to wait for pluff or birkal for am official approval.

Seems interesting! There's a lot you could write about ingame tiers; tier lists in general are pretty fascinating. Agreed with Toast, and approved~
