It was known for its Prankster shenanigans in a past life, but Thundurus has used Defiant to become one of VGC 2022's best Dynamax users. Defiant, which deters Intimidate users like Incineroar and Landorus-T, paired with Max Airstream is enough to be threatening, but powerful physical-attacking Restricted Pokemon, namely Zacian-C and Groudon, also love Attack boosts from Max Knuckle and Thundurus pressuring Kyogre. Being a Flying-type attacker in this metagame is also quite useful, with common Grass-types like Rillaboom, Amoonguss, and Venusaur making for easy Max Airstream targets. With an Assault Vest and Crunch, Thundurus also becomes a useful check to Calyrex-S, as the given EV spread virtually confirms it survives two Max Phantasms from a Life Orb variant. Special attackers like Calyrex-S and Kyogre also go well with Thundurus, not only enjoying the universal benefit of Max Airstream's Speed boosts, but also because Thundurus's Max Darkness drops foes' Special Defense, resulting in a shockingly powerful Astral Barrage or Water Spout to follow up.
