LC THE WAILMERS [QC 2/2][GP 1/1]

[OVERVIEW]
Wailmer is an incredible Pokemon in LC, capable of running either a bulky mixed set or a specially offensive set. Wailmer's excellent bulk allows it to tank most hits, highlighted by bulky Wailmer's ability to survive Electric-type attacks from Pokemon like Elekid and Voltorb. Wailmer is no pushover offensively either, as it has base 70 in both Attack and Special Attack as well as high-Base Power moves like Water Spout and Self-Destruct, making it a powerful attacker. Wailmer's set diversity makes it difficult to answer due to its two sets having different matchups and answers. Wailmer makes for a great lead Pokemon due to both its unpredictability and good matchups against much of the tier. Self-Destruct is one of Wailmer's best moves, often letting it take an opposing Pokemon down with it for a neutral or even positive trade if it has managed to pick up one KO already. Wailmer isn't perfect however, as it notably has problems with Water-types like Staryu and Chinchou; against these Pokemon, it's often made to rely on the weak Hidden Power Grass in order to attack without exploding. Wailmer is also slow and outsped by much of the tier's offensive threats, letting Wailmer be revenge killed if it has been weakened.

[SET]
Mixed Bulky Attacker (Wailmer) @ Sitrus Berry
Level: 5
Ability: Water Veil
EVs: 36 HP / 40 Atk / 76 Def / 120 SpA / 236 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Surf
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power Grass
- Self-Destruct

[SET COMMENTS]
Bulky Wailmer is an incredible lead Pokemon due to its high bulk that often provides with it a positive or neutral matchup against many other leads, such as Staryu, Voltorb, Elekid, and Abra. This set maximizes Special Defense investment for a 93% chance to survive Thunderbolt from two of the strongest Electric-type Pokemon in the tier, Elekid and Chinchou. The Special Defense investment is also generally useful against powerful special attackers in the tier such as Abra and Gastly. Earthquake is a great coverage move to hit Electric-types: with 40 Attack EVs, it lands an OHKO on Elekid while hitting Chinchou hard. Hidden Power Grass is used to hit other Water-types like Wailmer or Staryu. A Sassy nature lets Wailmer achieve maximum Special Defense and maintain the power of its physical moves while still outspeeding Porygon. Self-Destruct is excellent for trading Pokemon, as it is usually used against some of the tier's best Pokemon like Porygon. It can also be used in poor matchups or to sacrifice Wailmer to bring in one of its teammates.

One of the few attacks capable of OHKOing Wailmer is Choice Band Doduo's Double-Edge, so Pokemon that can switch into Doduo such as Porygon, Snubbull, Gastly, or Duskull make good teammates. Despite being able to take on Electric-type Pokemon, Wailmer still appreciates Ground-type teammates like Trapinch or Diglett that can trap and remove Electric-types so that Wailmer is not overwhelmed. Wailmer's high bulk allows it to reliably check powerful threats like Abra, which is appreciated by Pokemon like Gastly, Doduo, and Koffing that are all scared out by it.

[SET]
Specially Offensive Wailmer @ Sitrus Berry
Level: 5
Ability: Water Veil
EVs: 36 HP / 76 Def / 200 SpA / 196 Spe
Modest Nature
- Water Spout
- Hydro Pump / Surf / Ice Beam
- Hidden Power Grass
- Self-Destruct

[SET COMMENTS]
Wailmer's high bulk and solid offensive movepool make Wailmer a threatening attacker. 196 Speed EVs allow Wailmer to outspeed Pokemon like Cubone, Magnemite, and Snubbull, which outspeed and threaten slower Wailmer variants. Water Spout hits incredibly hard when at full power, boasting a huge 150-Base Power and landing OHKOes on almost anything that doesn't resist the move like Snubbull or Magnemite. Hydro Pump is a backup option if Wailmer is at low HP and can't use Water Spout. Surf is a more reliable move than Hydro Pump but misses out on KOs versus Pokemon like Gastly or Koffing. Ice Beam can hit Pokemon like Cacnea and Bagon that try to come in on Water-type moves. Hidden Power Grass lets Wailmer hit Water-types like Chinchou and Staryu that resist its STAB moves. Self-Destruct can be used to KO an opposing Pokemon if Wailmer is at low HP.

This set aims to hit enemies as hard as possible with Water Spout but can miss KOs on bulky foes like Porygon, making Spikes setters like Pineco or Cacnea good teammates. Chinchou, Voltorb, and Elekid all outpseed and OHKO Wailmer with Thunderbolt, so pairing Wailmer with trappers like specially defensive Diglett or Trapinch to remove these Pokemon is a good idea. Finally, teams that appreciate strong wallbreakers enjoy Wailmer's ability to create holes in teams with Water Spout and Self-Destruct so that they can clean up with faster threats such as Abra and Staryu.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A physically defensive EV spread can be used to survive Choice Band Doduo's Double-Edge and Bonemerang from Cubone, letting Wailmer get surprise KOs on both of them. However, HERE this set means that Wailmer can no longer survive Electric-type moves, and it also doesn't have the speed and power of the offensive set.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Chinchou**: Chinchou is the best check to both Wailmer sets, as it can freely switch in on offensive Wailmer and outspeed and OHKO it with Thunderbolt, while it can beat the bulky set by weakening Wailmer with Surf and then KOing it with Thunderbolt.

**Staryu**: Staryu can easily switch in on Water-type attacks from Wailmer and can threaten it with Thunderbolt and Hidden Power Grass or with paralysis from Thunder Wave.

**Magnemite**: Magnemite outspeeds bulky variants of Wailmer and can OHKO it with Thunderbolt, but it is slower than offensive Wailmer and can be OHKOed by either Water Spout or Hydro Pump.

**Doduo**: Doduo threatens to OHKO both Wailmer sets with Choice Band Double-Edge, forcing Wailmer to switch out.

**Porygon**: Porygon takes little damage from a bulky Wailmer and is only threatened by Self-Destruct, while it can disrupt offensive Wailmer sets with moves like Thief or Thunder Wave.

[OVERVIEW]
Wailmer is an incredible Pokemon in Little Cup, capable of running a bulky mixed set or a fast special attacker set. (i wouldnt describe 15 speed as "fast". highlight wailmers insane bulk, how the bulky set can tank electric type attacks (which are effectively its only weakness since hp grass is weak af) as well as its offensive abilities on its special attacking set using powerful moves like Water Spout + surprise factor of being faster than bulky wailmer.) Wailmer is a great lead Pokemon, with its two different sets being different enough to be effective every game. (split this into two sentences, first one highlighting how its difficult to predict since it can run either set effectively, second sentence about how its unpredictability and good matchups into most of the tier makes it a great lead.) Self-Destruct is one of Wailmer's best qualities, often letting it take an opposing Pokemon down with it for a neutral or positive trade if it manages to pick up one KO already. (you need to mention wailmers negative qualities here as well)

Mixed Wailmer This set invests in maximum maximizes Special Defense investment for a 93% chance to the ability to nearly always survive Thunderbolt from the two of the strongest Electric-type Pokemon in the tier, Elekid and Chinchou. (add period) from full HP. Wailmer can hit them back with Earthquake, usually landing an OHKO on Elekid while hitting Chinchou hard. The Special Defense investment is also generally useful for the powerful special attackers in the tier such as Abra. (move this part to where you're talking about the special defense) Hidden Power Grass is another move to hit Chinchou, also hitting other Water-types like Wailmer or the less common Staryu. (since when is an A rank Pokemon "less common?") Self-Destruct is excellent for trading Pokemon, as it usually is used against some of the tier's best Pokemon like Porygon. (highlight that self destruct can be used in other bad MUs not just vs porygon, also that it can be used to sack wailmer and get a teammate in)

Wailmer appreciates One of the few attacks capable of OHKOing Wailmer is Choice Band Doduo's Double Edge, so Pokemon that can switch into Choice Band Doduo's strong Double Edge, making Ghost-types such as Porygon, Snubbull, Gastly, (add comma) or Duskull make good teammates. Despite being able to take on Electric-type Pokemon, Wailmer can still appreciates the presence of Ground-types teammates like Trapinch or Diglett to that can trap and remove Electric-types for Wailmer. (mention Pokemon that like having bulky Wailmer as a teammate)

[SET COMMENTS]
Specially Offensive Wailmer leverages its high HP and decent defenses for the ability to run a fast and offensive set, allowing to outspeed Pokemon like Cubone or Koffing that would outspeed slower Wailmer variants. (rephrase this to something like specially offensive wailmers bulk and good offensive movepool ... investing 196 EVs in speed allows it to outspeed and KO targets like Cubone and Koffing that would outspeed slower Wailmer sets) Water Spout hits incredibly hard when at full power, boasting a huge 150 base power, landing OHKOes on almost anything that doesn't resist the move. (examples?) Hydro Pump is a backup option if Wailmer is at low HP and can't use Water Spout, (mention surf and ice beam) and Hidden Power Grass lets Wailmer hit Water-types like Chinchou that resist its Water-type (add hyphen) STAB moves. Self-Destruct can be used to take a KO an opposing Pokemon if Wailmer is at low HP but doesn't want to use Hydro Pump. risk missing Hydro Pump.

This set aims to blow up as many Pokemon as possible with Water Spout but can miss KOs on foes like Porygon, making a Spikes setter like Pineco or Cacnea a good teammate. Chinchou and Elekid both outpseed and threaten Wailmer with Thunderbolt, so pairing Wailmer with trappers like Diglett or Trapinch to remove these Pokemon is a good idea. Other Options
=============

A physically defensive EV spread can be used to survive Choice Band Doduo's Double Edge and for the ability to take on Porygon without the need to Self-Destruct, but the standard spreads are preferred for being better overall. (this section is a little light but i can't think of anything else)

Checks and Counters
===================
**Doduo**: Doduo threatens Wailmer with an OHKO through its Choice Band boosted Double Edge, but doesn't enjoy switching into Surf or Self-Destruct. (doduo does OHKO wailmer with cb double edge, it survives surf even if its with low hp and i dont think anything "enjoys" switching in on self destruct unless its immune or a resist. i would rephrase this to note that doduo OHKOs wailmer with double edge forcing a switch)

**Porygon**: Porygon can outlast Mixed Wailmer one-on-one and deal big damage to the Specially Offensive set before fainting.
(bulky wailmer can just blow up on porygon and kill it 87.5% of the time? worth mentioning that bulky wailmer is forced to blow up though. for the offensive set, hp grass -> blow up (or 150bp water spout) should always kill)

**Chinchou**: Chinchou is able to comfortably beat either Wailmer set through trading attacks, forcing Wailmer to use Self-Destruct or switch out.
(chinchou has a 6% chance to KO bulky wailmer with tbolt, not able to "comfortably beat it" (unless wailmer is chipped) since it dies to eq from bulky wailmer. it is a good option for dealing with offensive wailmer but chinchou outspeeds so idk how wary it has to be of self destruct?)

(magnemite should be mentioned here since it outspeeds and KOs bulky wail, the offensive set beats it though)

(if you want to comment on this set being good (or common) as a lead, i think you should do so here and make sure you explain why) This set maximizes Special Defense investment for a 93% chance to survive Thunderbolt from the two of the strongest Electric-type Pokemon in the tier, such as Elekid and Chinchou. Bulky Wailmer fits on many teams, mostly fulfilling the need for a lead Pokemon. (while i agree wailmer is good on most teams writing this is kind of a cop-out, write something more like this: Bulky Waimer fits onto many teams, but works especially well with _ because... (think of mons that would appreciate having wailmer switch in to one of its counters.))

Hydro Pump is a backup option if Wailmer is at low HP and can't use Water Spout. Surf is a more reliable move than Hydro Pump but loses some power (are there any KOs you miss out on by running hydro instead of surf?), while Ice Beam can hit Pokemon like Cacnea (you also still KO diglett, check if there are any other relveant targets this hits. i would mention that both moves are 100% accurate but surf is stronger and ice beam provides additional coverage). Hidden Power Grass lets Wailmer hit Water-types like Chinchou that resist its Water-type STAB moves. Self-Destruct can be used to take a KO an opposing Pokemon (this was in the last qc check) if Wailmer is at low HP but doesn't want to risk missing Hydro Pump.

This set aims to blow up (would use different phrasing as this reads a bit weird with self-destruct on the set) as many Pokemon as possible with Water Spout but can barely misses KOs on bulky foes like Porygon, making a Spikes setter like Pineco or Cacnea a good teammates. (would rephrase this to point out the special attacking set can also use self destruct to take down porygon, but can pull off a hp grass -> water spout kill if it will be at full health when clicking water spout)

**Chinchou**: Chinchou is able to switch in on offensive Wailmer and OHKO it with Thunderbolt, but loses to the bulky Wailmer variant.

**Magnemite**: Magnemite outspeeds and OHKOes bulky Wailmer with Thunderbolt, but it loses to the offensive set.

(can you please explain the interactions more? you can check out the elekid or porygon analyses for an idea of what i'm looking for, but for example why does the bulky set beat chinchou but the special one can't? same for magnemite)

A physically defensive EV spread can be used to survive Choice Band Doduo's Double-Edge and Bonermerang from Cubone, letting Wailmer get surpirse KO's on both of them. However this set no longer lets Wailmer survive Electric-type moves and does't have the speed and power of the offensive set. for the ability to take on Porygon without the need to Self-Destruct, but the standard spreads are preferred for being better overall.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Doduo**: Doduo threatens to OHKO both Wailmer sets with an OHKO through its Choice Band Double-Edge, forcing Wailmer to switch out.

**Porygon**: Porygon's high bulk forces bulky Wailmer to use Self-Destruct to beat it, but the special attacking set can beat Porygon by using Hidden Power Grass and then Water Spout, but Wailmer has to be at full HP to KO Porygon. If Water Spout isn't at full power, Wailmer can still use Self-Destruct to KO after Hidden Power. This is reading like Porygon isn't a check to the sets. I would explain how Porygon can survive Surf from bulky Wailmer easily, and is only threatned by Self-Destruct, and Porygon will not be OHKO'd by offensive Wailmer's Water Spout and can use recycle to heal and thief and thunderwave to cripple Wail.

**Chinchou**: Chinchou is able to switch-in on special Wailmer and OHKO it with Thunderbolt, but can't switch-in on bulky Wailmer due to its high bulk allowing it to live Thunderbolt and hitting back with Earthquake. This section needs a lot of work, Chinchou is the best check to either Wailmer set and should be explained why. Chinchou will live Earthquake from bulky Wailmer, and can use Surf to chip Wailmer into Thunderbolt range. Substitute also lets Chinchou heal itself by subbing down to Sitrus if it is in range of Earthquake. Chinchuo will also be able to switch into any attack from offensive Wailmer and threaten to OHKO with Thunderbolt.

**Magnemite**: Magnemit outspeeds bulky variants of Wailmer and can OHKO it with Thunderbolt, but is slower by than offensive Wailmer and can be OHKOed by either Water Spout or Hydro Pump.

I would reorder these to have Chinchou first, i think it is the most important one. Also, Staryu should have a section, as it can survive water attackers and HP Grass, and threaten Wailmer back with HP Grass/Thunderbolt or with Paralysis.

Self-Destruct is excellent for trading Pokemon, as it is usually used against some of the tier's best Pokemon like Porygon. , can be used It can also be used in poor matchups, (remove comma) or to sacrifice Wailmer to bring in one of its teammates.

Wailmer's high bulk allows it to reliably check powerful threats like Abra, which is appreciated by Pokemon like Gastly, Doduo, and Koffing which that are all scared out by it.

[SET COMMENTS]
Wailmer's high bulk and solid offensive movepool makes make Wailmer a threatening attacker. It invests in 196 Speed EVs allow Wailmer in order to outspeed Pokemon like Cubone, Magnemite, and Snubbull, (add comma) which outspeed and threaten slower Wailmer variants. Water Spout hits incredibly hard when at full power, boasting a huge 150-Base Power and base power, landing OHKOes on almost anything that doesn't resist the move like Snubbull or Magnemite. Self-Destruct can be used to a KO an opposing Pokemon if Wailmer is at low HP.

Finally, teams that appreciate strong wallbreakers enjoy Wailmer's ability to create holes in teams through with Water Spout and Self-Destruct so that they can clean up with faster threats such as Abra and Staryu.

Other Options
=============

A physically defensive EV spread can be used to survive Choice Band Doduo's Double-Edge and Bonemerang from Cubone, letting Wailmer get surprise KOs on both of them. However, (add comma) this set no longer lets means that Wailmer can no longer survive Electric-type moves, (add comma) and it also doesn't have the speed and power of the offensive set.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Chinchou**: Chinchou is the best check to both Wailmer sets, as it can freely switch in on offensive Wailmer, outspeeding and OHKOing and outspeed and OHKO it Wailmer with Thunderbolt, and while it can beat the bulky set by weakening Wailmer with Surf and then KOing it with Thunderbolt.

**Staryu**: Staryu can easily switch in on water Water-type attacks from Wailmer and can threaten it Wailmer with Thunderbolt and Hidden Power Grass or through with paralysis with from Thunder Wave.

**Porygon**: Porygon takes little damage from a bulky Wailmer and is only threatened by Self-Destruct, while it can disrupt offensive Wailmer sets through with moves like Thief or Thunder Wave.
