Tournament Rules:
  • General tournament rules and regulations.
  • OM Grand Slam VIII information.
  • The banlist for this tournament is the same as the NFE ladder on the Smogon University server of Pokemon Showdown, and can be found on Smogon's strategy dex.
  • Best of three, single elimination.
  • If metagame changes occur during the middle of a round, they will take effect in the subsequent round.
  • Battles must take place on Pokemon Showdown!.
  • S/V cartridge win conditions are in place; there are no ties.

Here are this first week's teams. I went with more offensive-orientated teams, trying to refine offensive cores and focus on exploiting Tinkatuff as it was usually the reason why I felt pure Offense/HO was inconsistent in my mind by the interactions it provided alone.

Some quick meta-things I am looking at rn.
- Gabite rlly just lacks a reliable switch-in in the long term from its sheer unresisted coverage and crazy good base stats. Makes me believe you'll need Missy and somewhat Dartrix as reliable switch-ins(Hippo and Mudbray are also good options!). Due to its bulk, it feels like Frogadier, Sneasel, Missy, and Offensive Drakloak(rlly niche though) are the best way to revenge kill. It's in the argument for the best rocker, but both of them approach the rocks game very differently so none of them outclasses the roles at all. I expect this to be abused more in the future!!
- Frogadier could be the best spiker with Dartrix being introduced and giving Spikes Toedscool problems. Also insanely important for the tier as it has a very strong cleaning game. A very much similar vibe to Gen 8 Electabuzz.
- Dartrix looks like to be the best defogger. Physdef and Spdef are both solid in their own rights.
- Night Shade is unironically one of the best NFE moves right now due to most mons having low base HP. Missy with Night Shade + Will O Wisp + Taunt is the definition of privilege. I also think Missy is almost mandatory for most teams tbh.
- If you want to get momentum from Tinkatuff, Magnemite, and Eel are simply the best ways in order to do so due to Twave immunity and pivot game. Magnemite does mainly exist because of Tinkatuff's existence, but once you realize that a lot of balance teams and defensive cores need Tinkatuff in order to solidify their defense, getting rid of Tinkatuff will show you a new whole way to approach offense, probably not good for the meta lol. But it does solidify Magnemite's niche legit IMO.

unfortunately I shall have to call act on saketh, proof on their wall. They responded to me at 4am my time today, I responded when I woke uparound 6.5 hours ago but they have not been online or messaged me. I have work very early tomorrow so cannot afford to stay up until the am to hope for a reply.
