Welcome! If you're having trouble building a team around something, this is the place to post. A few other well-established PU players and I will be building teams around specific movesets and/or cores at your request. We'll post the team for you, accompanied by a description of our teambuilding process and a couple of replays, both of which will detail how the team works in depth. This thread's primary aim is providing newer players with an entry point to the tier, and hopefully by watching us play and learning how we build, we'll be able to teach new users some of the basics. That, and it's just a good time to ladder with a team made by someone who knows the tier well. Use responsibly!

Joining the teambuilding lab:

If you would like to join the teambuilding lab, simply send me a message either here on Smogon or on Discord. We'll generally try to limit the number of builders for the thread though, as 'too many cooks can spoil the broth.' I'll ask you for a sample of what you've built recently, and if it looks good and we have room for new builders, you're in! If I know who you are and have seen some of your prior contributions, that will make things easier too.

Rules for requesting teams:
  • Post a short description with the moveset / core you want us to build around and a slight idea of what kind of team you want the end result to be (ex. Balance with specially defensive Togedemaru or Hyper Offense with an offensive core of Archeops and Alolan Exeggutor). Keep in mind that there may be a more optimal set than the one you requested, so the final product will be subject to change at the builder's discretion.
  • Requests for Pokemon ranked low in terms of their viability, i.e. C rank and below, will be low priority (to see what will be considered low priority, please consult our viability rankings thread).
  • Requests for totally unviable Pokemon will denied (ex. Snom or Cosmoem).
  • Please refrain from requesting teams built around Pokemon new to the tier right after they've dropped; just like you, the builders probably have not gotten a chance to use the new drop yet, so please wait a minimum of 1 week before making these requests.
  • Please note that we can choose to ignore requests for Pokemon that have had teams built with them recently.
  • Each user is allowed one request per every two weeks, and posts with users making more than their allotted requests will be ignored and these users may be subsequently disallowed from requesting teams from the thread in the future.
  • Please remember that these teams are not guaranteed to be without weaknesses - all good teams still have a few. Edit them as you please.
  • On that note, you are free to suggest changes to posted teams that you feel improve them.
  • You are not allowed to post your own teams here to have us modify them. We're here to build new teams, not modify older ones. If you want your own teams critiqued and modified, post them in the RMT forum instead.
Rules for building teams:
  • To ensure that the requests are built within a reasonable timeframe, please first post a rough draft in our Discord Teambuilding Lab channel via a PokePaste. If you've received no feedback after one week, please assume the team is okay to post.
  • To ensure quality, please be mindful of the feedback you receive and do not post the team if it needs a significant overhaul.
  • Please update our running spreadsheet after you've built the team by marking the request as complete.
  • Post at least one replay against a competent player with your finished team - doing so will inform how you build, and it's important to ensure these teams are functional in practice, so that the requester is happy with the final result.
  • If you've been inactive for a noticeable period of time, your meta knowledge will most likely become outdated, and you'll be removed from the list of approved builders.

hi Sensei Axew, i have your shell smash omastar + webs bee team

https://pokepast.es/69433f9525408d73
ok so ngl this core was a bit weird to build around; neither mon provide much defensively, meaning building a bulky offense / balance team wasn't gonna be necessarily easy, but im pretty happy with how this turned out. it's still a bit offensive, but the defensive core --druddigon + steelvally + bulky bee-- does a decent job at covering most of the meta. the idea behind the team was quite simple, webs + para spam + omastar. i wanted another potential wincon and web abuser so i went with calm mind virizion. it pairs amazingly well with stun spore bee, and despite never being quite impressed with this set before, i think it fits on this team excellently. stone edge > air slash is an option, but if you manage to stun spore the talonflame, you can fish for a para or flinch with air slash. druddigon sets rocks, spreads paras even more, and can chip down stuff with rough skin. the spread allows it to check magmortar + virizion semi-reliably, which is very appreciated here. steelvally is the ice and fairy resist so the team doesn't just get 6-0ed by vanilluxe and qd ribombee, and can also defog hazards away. lastly, mesprit is the team's scarfer and healing wish is honestly broken on this team and is super useful to allow you to play more aggressively with omastar and virizion against stuff like talonflame and jellicent

this version was made by 2xTheTap, but from testing i really liked it so im including it too. this is a more balance-y team, and it takes a different approach from my version with a bunch of less common sets or just options that aren't necessarily common. the defensive core is extremely solid and covers a lot, just hope you don't run into toxicroak or magmortar and you should for sure be fine. kinda all i have to say about this team, can't really comment on the building process but from testing this is a fun version so yeah lol, hope u enjoy it

2x edit: Quick description, but Ribombee's Sticky Web allows SS Modest Omastar to outspeed common Choice Scarf users, especially Passimian, Togedemaru, Gourgeist-Small, etc. Looking more at Pokemon that Omastar struggles to OHKO from full after setting up, Lanturn, Vaporeon, Guzzlord, Virizion, etc. are all very noteworthy, so I added SpDef Stunfisk-G to trap and KO Lanturn with a combination of Snap Trap and Earthquake. It also takes on NP Toxicroak and shares good type synergy with Ribombee, letting you pivot into Ribombee's checks (especially CS Togedemaru) and add on pressure with SR or force switches via Yawn when necessary. SpDef Altaria traps many Pokemon with that combination of Fire Spin and Perish Song, but its use here is designed to trap and KO Vaporeon lacking Flip Turn, while also providing a function fire resist for switching into Charizard's Focus Blast and hazard removal to keep Omastar healthy. At this point, Gourgeist-Small was added to check Water-immune Pokemon like Heliolisk, to protect Omastar from Fighting-, Grass-, and Ground-type moves from Pokemon like Virizion, and to lure Talonflame via Rock Slide so that Specs Ribombee can wallbreak more freely. Gourgeist is also just amazing in this meta, as user Skankovich has written about in our VR, and it cleans with ease with most users forgetting their Ghost resist. Finally, the team was lacking a solid Ice resist, leaving threats like CB Froslass generally unaccounted for, so Thick Fat Miltank provides the team with a switch-in to really anything Froslass can throw at you, save for WoW. This variant of Miltank especially does not mind TrickBand, as it's running full Speed and Attack investment for bringing its teammates with Eject Pack Hammer Arm and so that it can Earthquake on unsuspecting Toxicroak and Magmortar (which, as gum notes above, can be fairly threatening against this team). At the very end of the building process, I was missing a breaker that could threaten more defensive teams, and so I decided to use Switcheroo Specs Ribombee for this purpose. It really wears down Omastar's offensive checks (especially CS Togedemaru, again), and gives you another option to OHKO Guzzlord, which prevents Omastar from sweeping when healthy.

Hey SergioRules, Here's your CB Aggron team!

:Aggron::Scrafty::Druddigon::Garbodor::Rotom::Talonflame:
https://pokepast.es/03a4eb6b1dab909e

I started off with the CB Aggron set you requested, which featured Aqua Tail. After that I went with Scrafty which can set up on most things that can live a hit from Aggron, such as Palossand, Vaporeon and Sandaconda. Druddigon is a solid physical blanket check and stealth rock setter, Glare can help with Aggron or Scrafty's slow speed. Garbodor is a good fighting resist that provides the team spikes to make breaking easier, the speed investment is enough to outspeed other Aggrons, Mesprit without speed investment and Alolan Exeggutor. Rotom is the team's scarfer that also gives you a fighting immunity. Talonflame is your hazard control and a third mon that can take fighting attacks, you can use Toxic over U-Turn but I personally like U-Turn a little more since it helps with getting Aggron in.

Here are two replays of me using the team against experienced players:

Hi Floor Mat and thanks for stopping by!

Here is your Specs Clawitzer original squad (click the sprites for the team):
:Clawitzer: - :Talonflame: - :Lurantis: - :Frosmoth: - :Runerigus: - :Magneton:

The teams idea is to be defensively balanced well and to maximize pivoting possibilities for Clawitzer. Maybe a sleeper pick, but not going to lie, I feel like frosmoth is MVP of the team to bring Clawitzer safely in and absorbing special hits like tbolt/freezedry for it. Frosmoths speed EVs are to outspeed modest alolan-exeggutor (includes drampa) which might be an issue otherwise. Frosmoth invites often Talonflame in while u-turning out, this is where magneton comes into picture. Magnetons tbolt OHKOes 248hp Talonflame from full + lures ground types in which is a turn where you can try to offensively double to Clawitzer again, thanks to our grounds being very slow in the first place. Talonflame offers extra pivoting while again luring grounds/rocks in for clawitzer, but same time defensively making core to play around Virzions with Lurantis. Lurantis is pretty solid defogger and is only pressured by poison types which gets spikes up. Rockers can only pressure it with toxic - there could be case made to have aroma-defog Lurantis just because of that. Runerigus might sound also a bit off pick over Palossand as fighting immunity and Archeops switch in. Runerigus offers toxic spikes which helps a lot pressuring Sp.Def Vaporeons otherwise you need to fish for dark pulse flinch against them. Not the worst thing in the world, but not ideal either. Palossand can easily replace runerigus if you feel so, but include toxic at least on the set in that case. As an extra note, itemless Runerigus is to be poltergeist switch in and get hazards up in exchange (or hit back with bpress/pgeist).

While building I made fresh alt to adjust the original team and get replays. Ended up being first on ladder with very respective 88.6% gxe.

Red Flags for the squad:
-Omastar: Unfortunately magneton is outspeeded by +2 omastar by few points and therefore using the more meta staple Togedemaru over Magneton is very justified. Togedemarus pros are definitely the access to u-turn which cant be blocked by ground types. Cons, does only 70-84% to talonflame and might take flame body in exchange.
-Charizard/Magmortar: Talonflame takes very well charizard, but the issues starts with Magmortar. Lucky for us Magmormar is very uncommon pick, but this is already a good enough reasoning to use brave bird over flare blitz. Generally speaking flare blitz hits more stuff than brave bird, but this time BB hits multiple things that can become and issue like, Virizion, Toxicroak.
-Virizion: Not really a red flag tbf, but worth pointing out since Virizion is threat to any team if it clicks right move with the right set. 4atk mixed LO Virizion can become threatning and usually you want to check the set with Lurantis first before going to Talonflame.

SO, after all this writing and rechecking the team one more time, heres the edited version with togedemaru + talonflame with bravebird and will o wisp (to have better MU against silvally steel for example, bcs no fire stab):

I would like to request a balanced team formed around the pairing of Kingler and Heliolisk that makes the most out of their synergy to deal with each others switch in's, I will leave the movesets up to the builder to decide to give them more flexibility.

Ask and you shall receive! I took your request of wanting to build with Archeops and this is what I have for you! An aggressive VoltTurn sculpting around the fossil bird is the best way to possibly use Archeops from what I've found. Its impressive offenses paired with outstanding EdgeQuake coverage, great Flying STAB for the pesky Grass-types, access to U-turn for getting in other offensive partners in crime on guaranteed Archeops switch-ins, and now thanks to Heavy-Duty Boots: a means to infinitely pivot versus Stealth Rock makes Archeops a fearsome wallbreaker for an aggressive playstyle.

:archeops: :togedemaru: :virizion: :talonflame: :miltank: :garbodor:

This team was designed so that way Archeops can either punish offensive cores with its coverage early on, or break down defensive cores throughout the length of the game and gain momentum versus its defensive switch-ins. Virizion and Togedemaru were 2 of the strongest pairings for Archeops, as Virizion provided a secondary mixed wallbreaker to help with Weezing, Sandaconda, Vaporeon, Gigalith, and Regirock whilst Togedemaru offensively checked what Archeops simply could not outspeed like Ribombee, Talonflame, and +2 Omastar. The defensive core of Miltank and Garbodor provided Archeops a well-rounded foundation to help versus the problematic Grass types like Whimsicott, but also having a solid check to Ice types and both of which provided Hazard support, meaning Archeops could have an even easier time wearing switch-ins down.

I opted to slash Dual Wingbeat with EdgeQuake coverage, as Earthquake became essential throughout later testing, in order to provide even more impressive results like being able to offensively punish Togedemaru instead of U-turning into Virizion or Garbodor for example. Earthquake also became useful to help wear down Steel-types like Silvally-Steel and Stunfisk-Galar, but even more so provided a surefire way to revenge-kill a weakened Lanturn without having to risk a Stone Edge miss. Not having Flying STAB could be problematic at times, but with partners like Talonflame, I didn't feel too worried about relieving its coverage. I also really like Synthesis here on Virizion, as this mon tended to be worn down quickly due to its Life Orb and Archeops largely relies on Virizion to break what it simply cannot. So having this means of longevity proved to be ever-so-clutch.

This replay versus my good friend Roonie really capitalized what strong prediction and reliable coverage can do for a well played Archeops. This replay truly showed how in-sync Archeops can be with its teammates, capitalizing on its strengths whilst relying on its teammates to cover for its weaknesses. This replay among all the games I tested, truly showed best what this team was capable of doing, and how even prepared teams can fumble to Archeops's strong offensive capabilities. Archeops was able to patiently clean up versus the defensive core of Stunfisk-Galar, Charizard, and Lanturn once a few of those were weakened by either Archeops itself, or with its powerful teammates. This mon isn't meant to sweep teams on its own, and requires tremendous support and patience to handle teams even at the highest level, however Archeops can sculpt certain matchups in its favor with proper prediction and the support of its team.

Hi, I would like a team based entirely out of trolling the opponent, trying to win in the most infuriating cheesy way (think using wrap in gen 1). if you could try and fit the duskull evolution line on their that would be ideal but i get it if you cant. Built for PU as i am starting out. base game of sword but plan to get the expansions. thanks :)

Hello, you are free to request something else given Arctovish is no longer PU.

Is annoying Dusknoir team the request, or would you prefer something more viable? Let us know!

I would like to also ask for a stall team petition, only if possible I would like Audino to form a part of it, since it gave me my first tournament dub ever. I had already built teams with it on PU but that was a couple of months ago and the meta has shifted a lot since then.
