Simply put you ignore dragon damage offering a free move/ switch for momentum (this works well with belly drum azumarill too), and take guaranteed 3HKO on any of Walking Wake's powerful moves no matter the circumstance allowing you a guaranteed switch and kill before tera and a guaranteed sac and kill after tera.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Protosynthesis Walking Wake Hydro Steam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Sylveon in Sun: 246-289 (62.4 - 73.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

This here is the worst case scenario where you go modest, choice locked and in sun, but Wake would rather run timid and benefit from the speed boost, you can't come in, but it's slow and choice locked, if you enter as the same time as him, you just protect and stun lock

244 SpA Choice Specs Walking Wake Hydro Steam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Sylveon in Sun: 171-202 (43.4 - 51.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

4 SpA Pixilate Sylveon Hyper Voice vs. 12 HP / 0 SpD Walking Wake: 296-350 (86.5 - 102.3%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO

Blissey @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4Spd
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seismic Toss
- Shadow Ball
- Soft-Boiled
- Calm Mind/Stealth Rock

Whenever a special attacker tries to rise to power it always has to deal with the Blissey.
Blissey can shake off any damage that Walking Wake puts on it. Although it cant put any offensive pressure back it can slowly chip down
Walking wake with Seismic toss as Walking wake don't have healing.

Calcs
Without Sun Boost
244 SpA Choice Specs Walking Wake Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 237-279 (33.1 - 39%) -- 99.8% chance to 3HKO
244 SpA Choice Specs Walking Wake Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 201-237 (28.1 - 33.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

With Sun Boost
244 SpA Choice Specs Walking Wake Hydro Steam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey in Sun: 219-258 (30.6 - 36.1%) -- 48.8% chance to 3HKO
244 SpA Choice Specs Walking Wake Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey in Sun: 165-195 (23.1 - 27.3%) -- 64.3% chance to 4HKO

With Protosynthesis Boost (if you go for max Spa wake)
252 SpA Choice Specs Protosynthesis Walking Wake Hydro Steam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey in Sun: 288-339 (40.3 - 47.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

I generally prefer using clam mind as it can help in countering against QuiverDance Volcarona and other special setup sweeper but you can use Stealth rocks for hazard support. With 2 more Specially attackers - Hydreigon and Armarouge rising up to OU and threatening Volcarona, Blissey will have a role to play in OU tier. It also pairs up will with physical walls like Great tusk and Corviknight.

Check

Hatterene @ Wise Glasses
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP/204 Def/52 Spe
Bold Nature
Tera-Type: Water
- Draining Kiss
- Psyshock/Giga Drain
- Mystical Fire/Giga Drain
- Calm Mind

Not entirely convinced that this is a counter; the main points of contingency being that it's far too slow, it loses its damage output if Walking Wake Terastallizes against it and Draining Kiss doesn't count as reliable recovery. But it's certainly a check, and that's enough.

I haven't changed much from the standard Calm Mind Hatterene; the only real difference is the item. Switching to Wise Glasses increases the damage output from Draining Kiss (and therefore the healing you get back in return) without locking you into an attack like Choice Specs does, undermining that healing with unavoidable damage after the fact like Life Orb does or outright not triggering if Wake switches out like Expert Belt might do. More importantly, Pixie Plate guarantees that unboosted Kiss gets the 2HKO on Walking Wake and +2 gets the OHKO. Leftovers does not.

0 SpA Wise Glasses Hatterene Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 12 SpD Walking Wake: 180-212 (53 - 62.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (42.4 - 50% recovered)
0 SpA Hatterene Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 12 SpD Walking Wake: 164-194 (48.3 - 57.2%) -- 90.2% chance to 2HKO (38.6 - 45.9% recovered)
+2 0 SpA Wise Glasses Hatterene Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 12 SpD Walking Wake: 356-420 (105 - 123.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO (79.8 - 79.8% recovered)
+2 0 SpA Hatterene Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 12 SpD Walking Wake: 324-384 (95.5 - 113.2%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO (76.4 - 79.8% recovered)

I could've made this Hat outspeed uninvested Ting-Lu or Iron Hands, but I doubt it would appreciate the lack of physical bulk, and Iron Hands seemed like a mon that would invest in speed, even if only to keep up with Azumarill and Kingambit. 52 EVs isn't as much of a sacrifice, and I'm sure outspeeding Garganacl, Dodonzo and Toxapex will still come in handy.

Tera-Water is kept to allow Hat to resist Wake's other moves. Of course, the Wake player can always predict you to Tera and Draco you in response, so it might be worth holding off just to deny that play. Don't worry if they get the 50-50 right; you can recover enough off from Kiss to mitigate most of the damage if you Kissed immediately... and they haven't Tera'd.

244 SpA Walking Wake Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Hatterene: 169-201 (53.1 - 63.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
244 SpA Walking Wake Hydro Steam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Hatterene in Sun: 186-220 (58.4 - 69.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
244 SpA Walking Wake Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Tera Water Hatterene: 201-237 (63.2 - 74.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

You could slash in Giga Drain to counteract Wake's Tera to an extent, but then you get it walled by Fire-types if you dropped Psyshock, or Steel-types if you dropped Mystical Fire.

Scream Tail is disgustingly bulky with Proto boost under Sun, which is the condition under which Walking Wake is more dangerous as we've all seen since its release. With large SpDef investment, roid Jigglypuff eats Hydro Steam for breakfast, is immune to Draco obviously and everything else is negligible.
I've put Tera Water as a backup if you need to make sure you can NEVER lose and to become a TRUE counter, as Specs Draco Meteor into -2 Draco can never KO Scream Tail after rocks in any circumstance. Obviously sucks to plan a defensive tera, but if you find normal people with proto speed specs wake under sun you're chillin without tera anyway, if you get a different matchup at least you know you have this to fall back on.

Obviously legit observation, but yeah it was Proto Speed to counter and not proto SpAtk.
Also, even against Proto SpAtk Tera Water you can Protect after you've switch-in, then Tera Water + Wish, and then get your health back.

As I said also, Tera Water is more of a "if I need I have this option" thing rather than "you MUST use it". Normally you face speed boosting wake anyway and you're fine against those. If they tera, then you can tera and be even + you've neutralized a giant threat.

we don't really have many safe switchins to wake really anyway

Our new victim for Week 10 will be… Roaring Moon!

Roaring Moon @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Acrobatics
- U-turn

Coming in at a blazing fast 119 base speed and the sixth highest attack stat in Scarlet and Violet, Roaring Moon proves itself a roaring menace as early as team preview. As the popularity of Sun-based teams rises, it should come as no surprise that one of the playstyle’s most dangerous abusers finds itself comfortably top 10 in usage. Despite its relative physical frailty and vulnerability to priority, OU has seen a myriad of viable sets, including banded, scarfed, a setup-trapper, and its most popular booster energy sweeping set. Regardless of which set it runs Roaring Moon makes its mark as an offensive cornerstone of the current OU metagame.

How will YOU silence this screaming roaring dragon? Submissions will end Monday, March 20th at 23:59 GMT-3!

Please remember to clarify if you are submitting a set as a check or a true counter!

PS:
I've updated the RESOURCES section of the front page of the thread; if you're struggling to come up with a counter or check, confused as to which category your submission falls into, or just curious about terminology, take a peek!
