Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 32 Def / 228 SpD
Bold Nature
- Torch Song
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hex
- Slack Off

the slight def investment helps in taking tera flying acros very well, then you just wisp and slack off. for what its worth, even without tera you always live crunch comfortably to wisp, making it much easier for others to handle it. the def benchmark is for offensive tusk, which never 2 shots tera, and never one shots non tera. this spreadactually helps dirge in checking a lot of stuff, like ceruledge, ace, all pult, all dnite, offensive chomp, tusk, hat, gren, all valiant, moon, both moths etc

252 Atk Protosynthesis Roaring Moon Crunch vs. 248 HP / 32+ Def Skeledirge: 314-372 (76.3 - 90.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Tera Flying Roaring Moon Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 248 HP / 32+ Def Tera Fairy Skeledirge: 166-196 (40.3 - 47.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 Atk Great Tusk Headlong Rush vs. 248 HP / 32+ Def Tera Fairy Skeledirge: 174-205 (42.3 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Iron Valiant @ Booster Energy
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Booster Energy | Where To Find and Effects

Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Close Combat
- Thunderbolt
- Psyshock

If the opponent has alread terastallized, Iron Valiant simply uses Moonblast to OHKO Roaring Moon. If the opponent has not terastallized, it is very likely they will terastallize into a Flying-type and attempt to OHKO Iron Valiant with Acrobatics. To prevent this, Iron Valiant terastallizes, becomes an Electric-type to resist Acrobatics, and gains a STAB boost on Thunderbolt.

Avalugg @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Careful Nature
Ability: Sturdy
Tera Type: Fighting / Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
- Body Press
- Avalanche
- Rapid Spin
- Recover

As soon as Avalugg is in, this RM set is instantly put into a lose-lose situation. With heavy duty-boots + sturdy, there's absolutely nothing RM can do to prevent avalugg from just spamming avalanche until it goes down. Even if it has DD and it reaches +6 it don't matter, it has to hit Avalugg, which means there's a fat 120 BP Avalanche in the RM's future, which is a guaranteed OHKO(tho ofc that means it has to get in healthy, but DD ain't in this set so I'm still calling it a counter). Even if you weren't running Sturdy it still has to hit +3 to have even the slightest chance of OHKOing the iceberg, which Avalugg can prevent since Avalanche still 2HKOs cleanly without the damage boost. It ofc can just go full Def investment to laugh harder but it's better when in a team setting to try to patch up the SpD as much as possible.

252 Atk Protosynthesis Tera Flying Roaring Moon Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Avalugg: 144-169 (36.5 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+3 252 Atk Protosynthesis Tera Flying Roaring Moon Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Avalugg: 357-421 (90.6 - 106.8%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Protosynthesis Tera Flying Roaring Moon Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg: 114-135 (28.9 - 34.2%) -- 2.8% chance to 3HKO

0 Atk Avalugg Avalanche vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Flying Roaring Moon: 198-234 (56.4 - 66.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

While you sadly need to Tera (Normal) Dragonite to nail the 2HKO, Roaring Moon cannot OHKO back even if Dragonite got chipped off Multiscale, not even if it's sunny and Roaring Moon ate its Booster Energy earlier:

252+ Atk Tera Normal Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Roaring Moon: 195-231 (55.5 - 65.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Iron Hands @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 28 Atk/228 Def/252 Spe
Impish Nature
Tera-Type: Flying
- Body Press
- Wild Charge
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

And people thought Hands wasn't worthy of the OU tier <_<

The EVs are designed so that Body Press destroys Moon if it doesn't Tera, and Wild Charge destroys it if it does, in turn putting it in a lose-lose situation. It's a shame that I had to resort to Wild Charge here, since the recoil undermines Hands' ability to take hits to an extent (although thankfully not as much as CC). Unfortunately, Thunder Punch doesn't KO as it stands, and even with 116 Atk, which is the maximum amount of EVs you can give it without it getting an Attack boost instead, it's still in Moon's favor to survive.

116 Atk Iron Hands Thunder Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Flying Roaring Moon: 314-372 (89.4 - 105.9%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO
28 Atk Iron Hands Wild Charge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Flying Roaring Moon: 354-416 (100.8 - 118.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

But yeah, the real selling point is its sheer bulk. Assuming this is healthy and its Booster Energy is intact, you could even switch Hands into Moon's EQ if you really wanted to, take the next one and outright slay it back!

252 Atk Protosynthesis Tera Flying Roaring Moon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 228+ Def Quark Drive Iron Hands: 160-190 (35.6 - 42.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Protosynthesis Tera Flying Roaring Moon Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 228+ Def Quark Drive Iron Hands: 132-156 (29.3 - 34.7%) -- 6.2% chance to 3HKO
228+ Def Quark Drive Iron Hands Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Roaring Moon: 426-504 (121.3 - 143.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

:sv/orthworm:

Orthworm @ Sitrus Berry

Ability: Earth Eater
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Shed Tail
- Heavy Slam

- Body Press

:orthworm: CHECK :orthworm:

Orthworm is a decent check to booster energy moon as he's immune to eq and can take 3 proto boosted crunches, retaliating back with a devastating body press for good damage, or forcing tera flying to eat body press, or a switch. either way, 2 proto crunches deal a maximum of 68.6%, meaning that, with the sitrus berry, you will always be able to get a shed tail off to a teammate. orthworm teammates usually need a sub to get a turn to setup, which means that you may win on the spot. conversely, if orthworm already got a shed tail off early in the match, it still has enough health where it can switch into booster energy moon with stealth rock up. you wont be able to shed tail afterwards, but you either force good damage on moon or a potentially early tera to eat body press.

its only a check because orthworm has limited health throughout a match and can't switch into threats too many times. fortunately, once is all we need to check the booster energy version of roaring moon at its most dangerous

252 Atk Protosynthesis Roaring Moon Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Orthworm: 100-118 (29 - 34.3%) -- 3.7% chance to 3HKO
252 Atk Protosynthesis Roaring Moon Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Orthworm at 75% health: 100-118 (29 - 34.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Def Orthworm Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Roaring Moon: 276-326 (78.6 - 92.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Impish Nature / Careful Nature
Ability: Purifying Salt
Tera Type : Water
EVs: 252 HP / (252 Def/252 Sp Def) /
- Body Press
- Salt Cure
- Recover
- Iron Defense/Curse

Not a counter since you cannot switch in on a earthquake but other than that Iron Defense + Tera Water is more than enough to beat the Dragon. Iron defense can always outboost Dragon dance and after a +2 def boost , Roaring Moon has nothing to do either to wait to be killed by salt cure + body press or just switch out and let something else die. Some important calcs :

With Max def bold :

+2 252 Atk Tera Flying Roaring Moon Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Water Garganacl: 114-135 (28.2 - 33.4%) -- 91.9% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Def Tera Water Garganacl Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Roaring Moon: 508-598 (144.7 - 170.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

With 0 def Careful nature :

+2 252 Atk Roaring Moon Crunch vs. +2 252 HP / 0 Def Tera Water Garganacl: 109-130 (26.9 - 32.1%) -- 51.8% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Ting-Lu @ Leftovers
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Ruination
- Whirlwind
- Earthquake

Ting-Lu is a check. Its lack of recovery allows Roaring Moon to break through eventually, but without Dragon Dance, it's certainly going to take a while. With just the Protosynthesis boost, only U-turn and post-Tera Acrobatics come close to even 3HKOing from full, allowing Ting-Lu to switch in and wear it down with Ruination or Earthquake (pre-Tera, in the case of the latter) or phaze it out if it doesn't U-turn out first.

Tera Fairy is used over Tera Poison, since it reduces the damage from U-turn without adding a Ground weakness.

:ting-lu:
0 Atk Ting-Lu Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Roaring Moon: 154-183 (43.8 - 52.1%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO

:roaring moon:
252 Atk Protosynthesis Roaring Moon Crunch vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Ting-Lu: 73-87 (14.2 - 16.9%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Protosynthesis Roaring Moon Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Ting-Lu: 123-145 (23.9 - 28.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Protosynthesis Tera Flying Roaring Moon Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Ting-Lu: 202-238 (39.2 - 46.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Protosynthesis Roaring Moon U-turn vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Ting-Lu: 172-204 (33.4 - 39.6%) -- 17.7% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Protosynthesis Roaring Moon U-turn vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tera Fairy Ting-Lu: 43-51 (8.3 - 9.9%) -- possibly the worst move ever

Breloom @ Focus Sash
Level: 100
Adamant/Jolly Nature
Tera Type: Rock Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Tera Blast
- Rock Tomb

The humble little fungus from Petalburg sure has come a long way!

All it needs to decimate Roaring Moon is a free switch in without hazards.

To an unsuspecting Roaring Moon player, Tera Flying Acrobatics seems like a delicious option, here but then BAM! Breloom goes tera rock and kills with Tera Blast.

252 Atk Protosynthesis Tera Flying Roaring Moon Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Rock Breloom: 147-173 (56.3 - 66.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Tera Rock Breloom Tera Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Flying Roaring Moon: 380-450 (108.2 - 128.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Lets say the Roaring Moon player thinks they're real smart and predicts with Earthquake, well It doesn't matter, you live on sash and kill back with Tera Rock Tera Blast.

Well then maybe the Roaring Moon player thinks they've outplayed you real good and does not Terastalize. Well, then its simple, after your Tera Blast has done a good chunk of damage, you just kill with mach punch. :)

252+ Atk Tera Rock Breloom Tera Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Roaring Moon: 190-225 (54.1 - 64.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Tera Rock Breloom Mach Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Roaring Moon: 192-228 (54.7 - 64.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

The best thing about this set is that it also wrecks other common variants of Roaring Moon such as the Choice Band Variant and the Tera Dark variant. You can also run Jolly Nature with Rock Tomb to beat certain slower but bulkier variants of Roaring Moon. For every set Roaring Moon has, Breloom has a check.
