[Overview]

Starmie stands out as a great wallbreaker and spinner in NU thanks to its coverage and utility options alongside its Speed tier. Starmie outspeeds most of the unboosted metagame, making it easy to safely wallbreak and difficult to revenge kill. Starmie can also use its defensive utility to switch in and threaten Pokemon like Arcanine. Unfortunately, Starmie is vulnerable to common revenge killers like Choice Scarf Passimian and Rotom-C, as well as First Impression users like Golisopod and Sirfetch'd, which can easily OHKO Starmie. Additionally, specially bulky Pokemon like Gastrodon, Dhelmise, and Guzzlord can be difficult to break past, especially without proper prediction.

Because of Analytic, Starmie's Speed tier, and its coverage options, it's tough to switch into and matches up well against other offensive Pokemon like Life Orb Zoroark and Tauros. Thunderbolt nails opposing Water-types like Mantine and Blastoise, whereas Ice Beam hits threats like Goodra and Dragalge for decent damage. Psyshock can be used in place of Ice Beam to have a good chance to OHKO Dragalge and guarantee a 2HKO on Goodra while still 2HKOing Vileplume. Recover gives Starmie reliable recovery, since it will be switching into attacks often to wallbreak. Alternatively, Rapid Spin not only removes entry hazards but also gives Starmie a boost in Speed and makes it tougher to revenge kill. Choice Specs is also a viable item, with Trick being a great option alongside it to cripple common switch-ins like Gastrodon and Sylveon.

Spikes support from a teammate like Roserade or Garbodor can wear down the opposing team to put threats like Copperajah within range of a Hydro Pump and punish forced switches. Roserade can also check Gastrodon and Sylveon, both of which Starmie struggles with, while Garbodor functions as a consistent switch-in to Fighting-types, whereas Starmie is only a soft check. In return, Starmie checks threats to Roserade like Arcanine and Dragalge and beats Mudsdale and Golurk for Garbodor. Sylveon is a good teammate to check Choice Scarf users like Passimian and Flygon. U-turn from threats like Ninjask and Choice Scarf Passimian is problematic for Starmie. Therefore, teammates like Talonflame and Comfey work well against them. Talonflame, in particular, can fish for Flame Body burns, while Comfey provides Defog support and can bring Starmie in against foes like Arcanine and Golurk. Lastly, Ground-type partners like Mudsdale and Golurk eat up Electric-type moves and provide Stealth Rock support too.

A utility set can be run with an EV spread of 252 HP / 40 SpD / 216 Spe, a Timid nature, Heavy-Duty Boots as an item, and Natural Cure for its ability to act as a status absorber and pivot with Flip Turn. This EV spread lets Starmie outspeed threats like Tauros and Espeon, and it also prevents faster threats like Salazzle from overwhelming it as easily. Grass Knot is an alternative coverage option, but the only real target it hits is Gastrodon, and it's prediction reliant.

Checks and Counters
====

**Gastrodon**: Gastrodon is immune to Starmie's Water-type attacks, shrugs off any coverage move it has, and heals off whatever damage Starmie may have gotten on it.

**Revenge Killers**: First Impression users like Golisopod and Sirfetch'd, along with faster Pokemon like Salazzle, Inteleon, and Choice Scarf users in Passimian and Rotom-C, either OHKO Starmie with priority or outspeed it and threaten heavy damage or a KO.

**Dark-types**: Drapion and Guzzlord threaten Starmie with their respective STAB moves and force it out. Guzzlord doesn't want to be hit with an Ice Beam, though, while Drapion gets blasted by Hydro Pump.

**Grass-types**: Decidueye, Celebi, and Dhelmise are able to threaten Starmie with their super effective STAB moves. None of them want to switch into an Ice Beam, however.

**Specially Bulky Pokemon**: Assault Vest Copperajah, Sylveon, and Escavalier all win a one-on-one battle with Starmie due to their bulk.

[Overview]

Starmie stands out as a decent great wallbreaker and hazard control Pokemon in NU thanks to its coverage and utility options alongside its Speed tier. Its coverage and utility options along with its Speed tier and abilities only further this notion. Thanks to said Speed tier, Starmie outspeeds most of the unboosted metagame, save for threats like Inteleon, Ninjask, and Salazzle. However, thanks to Rapid Spin's new Speed increase, which Starmie can utilize, one boost allows it to outspeed these threats and OHKO them.(not relevant enough) Unfortunately, Starmie is outsped by common Choice Scarf users like Mienshao and Flygon Rotom-C (Flygon is weak as piss and doesn't threaten to revenge kill Starmie without a good bit of chip damage) and this can make it tough for Starmie to do its job.(rephrase to it being vulnerable to common revenge killers; this lets you mention First Impression from Golisopod and Sirfetch'd too) Additionally, given Starmie's less-than-ideal bulk and its defensive typing, it's susceptible to moves like U-turn and Knock Off, which results in the opposing team consistently gaining momentum.(does it actually? does Starmie not blast a vast majority of the Knock Off users in the tier? this point feels more like it'd be relevant to the previous sentence anyway re: Mienshao) (probably a mention about how there are quite a few generically specially fat mons in the tier that Starmie struggles to immediately bypass---Gastrodon, Dhelmise, and Guzzlord, for instance---without proper prediction)

Starmie's wallbreaking capabilities are evident when it comes to its ability in Analytic, its Speed tier, and coverage options. Because of this, it makes it Starmie is tough to switch into and matches well into other offensive Pokemon like Life Orb Mienshao and Tauros. Thunderbolt, for instance, nails opposing Water-types like Mantine and Blastoise, whereas Ice Beam nails hits threats like Goodra and Dragalge for decent damage. Rapid Spin doubles as hazard control as well as boosts Starmie's Speed and puts it in a position to sweep. Psyshock can be used in place of Ice Beam to have a good chance to OHKO Dragalge and guarantee a 2HKO on Goodra while still 2HKOing Vileplume. Psyshock can also be used over Rapid Spin to maximize Starmie's coverage, but it misses out on the boost of Speed that Rapid Spin grants. (fix this bit to reflect set edits: Recover + three attacks is generally better because Starmie switches into attacks fairly often as a way to get chances to wallbreak. for Rapid Spin I'd say something to the effect that it makes Starmie harder to revenge kill because people know that it removes entry hazards) (move the Choice Specs mention here: 4 Attacks Starmie is a pain to deal with)

Given Analytic won't always be in effect,
Spikes support from a teammate like Roserade or Garbodor can remedy this and wear down the opposing team to put threats like Copperajah within range of a Hydro Pump.(it's more that Spikes support is cool because Starmie's coverage means it forces switches super frequently) Roserade can also check Gastrodon and Sylveon, since Starmie struggles with both.(Garbodor is nice because Starmie is only a soft check to the fighters, whereas Garbodor is pretty consistent at switching into them) In return, Starmie checks threats to Roserade like Arcanine and Dragalge (and ig beats Mudsdale and Golurk for Garbo). Sylveon also proves to be a good teammate for Starmie to check common Choice Scarf users with U-turn like Mienshao and Flygon. These Choice Scarf users work well as teammates too, since Starmie isn't guaranteed to get Rapid Spin going to outspeed what it wants like Salazzle and Inteleon.(a generic sentence about "here are some fast threats Starmie hates, so here are some teammates that check them" could work ig, but I don't view it as overly needed) Hazard control from teammates like Flygon and Talonflame is appreciated, since Starmie has no reliable recovery to go with the Life Orb recoil. U-turn from threats like Ninjask and Choice Scarf Mienshao are problematic for Starmie. Therefore, teammates like Copperajah and the aforementioned Sylveon Comfey (when possible, diversify teammates that you mention) work well in this situation. Copperajah, in particular, can provide Stealth Rock support, while Comfey provides Defog support and can bring Starmie in against foes like Arcanine and Golurk. Knock Off is also a serious issue to the point where it can either take away Starmie's best chance to wallbreak or even OHKO it. Because of this, teammates like Diancie and Vileplume work well as partners. Diancie provides Stealth Rock support, while Vileplume can punish said Knock Off users with Effect Spore.(as said earlier, Knock Off really isn't that big a deal because you clap the fuck out of most users of the move or, in the case of Golisopod/Mienshao, they have other means of dealing with you)

With Rapid Spin users being hard to come by in NU, Starmie sticks out as one of them thanks to its Speed, longevity, and ability to pivot. A great Speed tier combined with great utility options helps it with this role. The first of which is the boost of Speed that Rapid Spin provides. Starmie is able to remove any entry hazards and then subsequently pivot with Flip Turn on almost everything in the tier, save for Gastrodon and Vaporeon Water-immune Pokemon.(ok but Scald is the first slash, so I'm unsure why you're mentioning this and not anything about Scald) Recover grants Starmie reliable recovery to go with its average bulk. Natural Cure is the preferred ability over Analytic since this set is not reliant on offense, and it lets Starmie function as a status absorber to an extent.

Teammates like Drapion and Zoroark erase Ghost-types that would otherwise block Rapid Spin. In return, Starmie can check Fighting-types that these two partners don't like.(does Drapion actually care about Fighting-types THAT much, though? I think you should emphasize Ground-types being checked for it instead) Water absorbing Pokemon like Gastrodon and Vaporeon prevent Starmie from pivoting with Flip Turn. Therefore, teammates like Rotom-C, Vileplume, and Choice Specs Decidueye can remedy this problem. Starmie's susceptibility to U-turn from the likes of Ninjask, Flygon, and Choice Scarf Mienshao will give it headaches. Because of this, having a teammate like Sylveon or Diancie to eat up such hits is appreciated. Starmie values its Heavy-Duty Boots to do its job with little issue and Knock Off threatens this. The aforementioned Fairy-types work as teammates in addition to partners like Comfey, which can shake it off as well.(it's really not that big of a deal tbh) Partners like Celebi and Decidueye, which can pivot on Fire-types to bring in Starmie safely to remove entry hazards, make great teammates too. Conversely, these Grass-types also threaten Starmie. Teammates like Ninjask, Salazzle, and Arcanine work as partners here. The latter two can help with bulky Steel-types like Copperajah and Escavalier that Starmie struggles with.

Grass Knot could work as a move in the wallbreaking set. However, the only real target it's hitting is Gastrodon and it's predicition-reliant. Choice Specs can work as a viable item in the wallbreaking set as well. Unfortunately, this locks into one move and if the foe predicts correctly, Starmie can be used as setup fodder.

Checks and Counters
====

**U-turn**: Common users of this move like Flygon, Ninjask, and Choice Scarf Mienshao threaten Starmie with U-turn and use it for gaining momentum.

**Knock Off**: Mienshao, Drapion, and Golisopod offensively pressure Starmie with Knock Off and easily force it out.

**Grass-types**: Decidueye, Celebi, and Rotom-C are a few of the Grass-types that NU has to offer that send Starmie running.

**Faster Pokemon**: Inteleon, Salazzle, Ninjask, and Choice Scarf threats like Mienshao and Flygon all outspeed Starmie and deal heavy damage with their STAB or coverage moves.

(ngl I'm not entertaining this section because it's very lacking and puts a weird emphasis on U-turn and Knock Off as problematic when there are far more pressing issues for Starmie that go unmentioned)

there's quite a bit here to fix; while much of it is organization related and cutting out of debatably not-that-useful info, there are some large concerns too. put this back into WIP and tag me when you've implemented what's here

Thanks to said Speed tier, Starmie outspeeds most of the unboosted metagame, save for threats like Inteleon, Ninjask, and Salazzle, which all carry moves that heavily damage it making it easy to safely wallbreak and difficult to revenge kill.(a bit awkward to note cons of Starmie randomly in the middle of pros) Starmie can also use its defensive utility to switch in and threaten Pokemon like Arcanine. Unfortunately, Starmie is vulnerable to common revenge killers like Choice Scarf Mienshao and Rotom-C, as well as First Impression users like Golisopod and Sirfetch'd,(AC) which make it tough for Starmie to do its job can easily OHKO Starmie. Additionally, specially bulky Pokemon like Gastrodon, Dhelmise, and Guzzlord prevent Starmie from breaking past them can be difficult to break past, especially without proper prediction.

Starmie's wallbreaking capabilities are evident when it comes to Analytic, its Speed tier, and its coverage options. Because of this Analytic, Starmie's Speed tier, and its coverage options, Starmie is it's tough to switch into and matches up well against other offensive Pokemon like Life Orb Mienshao and Tauros. Recover gives Starmie reliable recovery, since Starmie it will be switching into attacks often so as to wallbreak. Alternatively,(AC) Rapid Spin not only removes entry hazards (RC) but also gives Starmie a boost in Speed and makes it tougher to revenge kill. Choice Specs is a viable item for Starmie, since nothing will want to switch into any attack from Analytic Choice Specs Starmie. Trick goes hand-in-hand with Choice Specs to cripple common switch-ins to it like Gastrodon and Sylveon. Choice Specs is also a viable item, with Trick being a great option alongside it to cripple common switch-ins like Gastrodon and Sylveon.

Spikes support from a teammate like Roserade or Garbodor can wear down the opposing team to put threats like Copperajah within range of a Hydro Pump and force switches frequently punish forced switches. Roserade can also check Gastrodon and Sylveon, both of which Starmie struggles with, while Garbodor functions as a consistent switch-in to Fighting-types, whereas Starmie is only a soft check. In return, Starmie checks threats to Roserade (RC) like Arcanine and Dragalge (RC) and beats Mudsdale and Golurk for Garbodor. Sylveon also proves to be is a good teammate to check common Choice Scarf users (RC) like Mienshao and Flygon. U-turn from threats like Ninjask and Choice Scarf Mienshao are problematic for Starmie. Therefore, teammates like Talonflame and Comfey work well against them. Talonflame, in particular, can fish for Flame Body burns, while Comfey provides Defog support and can bring Starmie in against foes like Arcanine and Golurk. Lastly, Ground-type partners (RC) like Mudsdale and Golurk (RC) eat up Electric-type moves and provide Stealth Rock support too.

A utility set can be run with an EV spread of 252 HP / 40 SpD / 216 Spe, a Timid nature, Heavy-Duty Boots as an item, and Natural Cure for its ability to act as a status absorber as well as and pivot with Flip Turn. This EV spread lets Starmie outspeed threats like Tauros and Espeon.(RP) It also and prevents faster threats like Salazzle from overwhelming it as easily. However, the set can potentially be walled by Pokemon with a Water-immunity, like Gastrodon and Vaporeon.(like, this is true, but I don't think it's overly important to mention here) Grass Knot could work as a move in the wallbreaking set. However is an alternative coverage option, but the only real target it hits is Gastrodon,(AC) and it's prediction reliant.

Checks and Counters
====

**Gastrodon**: Gastrodon is immune to Starmie's Water-type attacks, shrugs off any coverage move it has, and heals off whatever damage Starmie may have gotten on it. It does need to be wary of a rare Grass Knot, however.(not necessary to mention an OO move here)

**Revenge Killers**: First Impression users like Golisopod and Sirfetch'd, along with faster Pokemon like Salazzle, Inteleon, and Choice Scarf users in Mienshao and Rotom-C,(AC) either OHKO Starmie with priority or outspeed it and threaten heavy damage or a KO.

**Dark-types**: Zoroark Drapion (Zoroark is slower and too frail to actually threaten Starmie out) and Guzzlord threaten Starmie with their respective STAB moves and force it out.

**Specially Bulky Pokemon**: Assasult Assault Vest Copperajah, Cresselia, Sylveon, and Escavalier all win a one-on-one battle with Starmie due to their bulk.
