Some vr noms now that im done with my reqs run
Rise:
:iron leaves: UR -> C+/B-
Iron Leaves hasn't made a huge splash in the metagame due to eterrain still not really being much of a viable strategy, but band isn't the worst thing ever and has pretty unique resists/stab combo that a lot of teams often don't have resists for and have multiple mons weak to it. It's a bit slow to be an amazing sweeper but I think it's a threat
:walking wake: honestly this is probably just going to get banned so i dont really have a strong opinion, would probably say around A- due to its reliance on sun in some instances, maybe A
:tyranitar: A to A+
Tyranitar is one of the best mons in the metagame right now imo, Salt Cure sets are incredibly difficult to deal with in long games and with Knock Off there's no way to stop the passive damage. It's invaluable against most special attackers in the metagame like Volcarona, Indeedee, Espathra, and even Gholdengo in a pinch that not many walls can reliably switch into and/or wear down
:azumarill: A- to A
Azumarill has been a top tier threat all gen thanks to Jet Punch, but I think with the bans of Dragonite and Garchomp putting Roaring Moon and Baxcalibur in the front of the metagame and the introduction of Walking Wake, Azumarill's Fairy typing is more important than ever. It's no questio that its Belly Drum set is one of the most difficult things to check in the metagame, and other sets like Swords Dance offer more variability as well.
:roaring moon: B to A-
Roaring Moon ending up in B with the original VR is largely due to the shadow cast by Dragonite and Garchomp still existing shortly after their ban. Since then, Roaring Moon has become the best Dragon-type in the meta with Choice Band sets generally being the most potent. The rise in Sun also benefits it greatly as it can sweep a lot better and has to worry less about faster threats. While it is incredibly good, it does still struggle with Fairy-types and most teams pack multiple Tera Fairy Pokemon like Rotom-Wash and Skeledirge that it just can't deal with.
:iron moth: B to B+
Iron Moth is an interesting Pokemon in the metagame, as I see it as both underrated and overrated; underrated in higher level games and overrated on the ladder. Iron Moth struggles a bit in a metagame with Tyranitar, Skeledirge, and Ting-Lu so common even with Torch Song, but a huge redeeming factor for it that has gotten more popular lately is Mortal Spin, which turns Iron Moth into one of the best offensive removal Pokemon in the meta since nothing can reliably block it without threat of being KO'd and it punishes the aforementioned switchins heavily by poisoning them. While it's frail and a little slow, this quality makes it at least B+ in my eyes
:clodsire: B to B+
Clodsire is frankly just really annoying for a lot of teams to deal with, its unique typing and special bulk make it a great check to stuff like Gholdengo and non-Psyshock Specs Valiant, and Water Absorb sets can catch huge chunks of the metagame off guard and can make Toxapex somewhat of a liability.
:baxcalibur: B to B+
Baxcalibur has seen more usage lately similarly to Roaring Moon, and it's obvious why when you look at how strong it is and its coverage, plus the immunity to Burn makes it a lot harder to deal with defensively. There's honestly not a great check to this in the metagame right now bar physdef Unaware mons and offensive pressure so I'm interested to see if it rises even further before Home.
:slowking: B- to B/B+
I will preach all day about how underrated Slowking is, I originally voted it B+ on the VR and I still believe it to be around there. While it doesn't always have the best matchups against special attackers, Future Sight support is incredibly potent right now in a Fighting-type heavy metagame and Slowking pairs up with almost every Fighting-type well, especially physical Iron Valiant
:gallade: UR to C+
Agility Gallade is honestly a pretty scary threat and it just got Psyblade to its tool kit so it's better than ever, pretty simple
:orthworm: UR to C
Orthworm sees a shocking amount of usage on the ladder, possibly from people who don't know Cyclizar is allowed but in my experience it's actually been somewhat difficult to deal with at times thanks to the ground immunity and bulk. Ghost Tera with hazard spam can invalidate some Great Tusk sets which is phenomenal, I think C is pretty fair for it given its outclassed in most ways but has a very specific niche still

Drop:
:palafin: A to A-

I think Palafin is a little bit awkward in that Bulk Up sets are mostly outclassed by thing like Azumarill, so imo Choice Band is practically the only set that is worth it right now which has its own issues of requiring to switch out to be useful, which can be difficult and not worth it in a lot of games. Band is still a threat so I think A- is fair for it, but I think it's definitely on the lower end of A- rn
:rotom-heat: B to C+
I struggle more and more everyday to find reasons to use this over the other Rotoms or really at all, it has all of the negative qualities of being a Rotom while having a typing that is just bad in the meta rn.
:gastrodon: B to B-
Similarly to Rotom-H, I think Gastrodon struggles to find a place in the metagame over Clodsire right now, which is the superior Water-immune Ground type. Honestly I've considered running Sticky Hold Covert Cloak on it to stop Tyranitar and Garganacl from popping off but the moveslots on it are too limited and it still lets them set up hazards for free.
:tauros-paldea-aqua: B- to C+
I think this just faces way too much competition from other offensive Water-types right now, its typing+Intimidate is nice but I think Blaze has a slightly better typing and tool kit for the current metagame.

Hey so, I agree with ITH for most of its nominations. However, I've one additional nomination to submit...

:Amoonguss: C- to B rank.

Simply put, I believe it is a underrated defensive Pokémon in the current metagame because it has so many qualities. If you read the main STABmons theard, you probably seen my recent teamdump, in which I dropped teams I built during a recent teamtour. These teams include two Amoonguss teams, with a moves et of Strength Sap / Foul Play / Corrosive Gas / Mortal Spin. In the post, I explained already why, thanks to its ability, typing, and moves, etc, I like so much Amoonguss, so you're probably familiar with it.

However, I think that Amoonguss biggest qualitiy is not just its typing or ability to check particular thearts. No, Amoonguss is excellent to fil up multiples roles, compressing all your needs. Need a Valiant soft check? Need something that can take up Waters? Need some removal? Amoonguss, in the current metagame, can fil up all of that. See, it is very useful in balance teams when you have to prepare to a lot of things.

I also think Corrosive Gas + Mortal Spin is a fabulous combination, as against non-steel/Poison-types you're assured to Poison the opposing foes.

Well, I hope this post has made you think about Amoonguss. I guess, xd. Oh I think I've one another nomination to do rq, but it won't be as long.

:Lokix: B- to B

Bc of tinted U-turn, I think this Pokémon Is a good offensive pivot that's currently slightly underrated. It also offer both priority (First Impression), entry hazards (Ceaseless Edge, insane move btw), and ofc Knock off. It does pretty good damage when I face or use it so...

New and revamped Viability Rankings are out! There's been quite a few bans and raid drops that have shaken up the meta quite a bit since the last update so there's too many changes to go over, but if there's any ranking youre curious about feel free to ask!
I am interested in Cyclizar being ranked. What sets is it using post Shed Tail? What does it do that other Pokemon can't?

Choice Specs Cyclizar is a very potent cleaner and breaker, personally I voted it B+. Heavy-Duty Boots sets have a ton of utility as well, albeit with its bulk being rather poor those sets are pretty situational and easy to play around

Going to drop some final impressions of the current DLC1 Metagame before the Indigo Disc drops simply to hopefully spark some discussion.

:Landorus-Therian: A -> S

A bit of a drastic rise, so allow me to explain myself.
What happens when you take the incredible defensive utility of Gliscor and combine it with the absurd versatility and power of Great Tusk? Well you get Landorus Therian, a Pokemon who in the current metagame truly can do it all. From checking half the metagame, to smashing through all of it with its massively powerful STAB moves, Landorus cements itself as arguably the most versatile Ground in the tier bar none. Defensive sets alone put themselves as the absolute best rockers and defoggers in the meta, having at least a neutral matchup into every single means of setting and removing hazards, all while being able to immediately capitalize on it with Intimidate + U-turn facilitating an absolutely absurd amount of Pokemon to go nuts with not only the set up opportunities hazard removal/setting and intimidate can allow for, but the sheer number of switches its massively powerful STABs force even without investment.
And then you get to offensive sets which are often so ridiculously powerful most if not all BOs/Balances require dedicated checks to them specifically to not get bulled over, all the while still being able to pull similar support options, or bolster its absurd wallbreaking potential even further with Tera + Swords Dance. Choice Scarf's ability to revenge kill so much of the metagame, or even just help a team dance around a threat with Intimidate, all while being able to clean out a game, and still dedicate a slot to something such as Spikes or Defog is a testament to just how easy to it is to justify Landorus Therian on a team, so much to say there's a certain point where I'd argue you need a good reason to not be using Landorus Therian, the fact it is capable of so much yet demands so little support to compensate for it is mind boggling. From checking Kingambit, Great Tusk, Sneasler, Iron Hands, Tyranitar, itself, and Physical Iron Valiant, to going on the offensive and wallbreaking so hard it would make a demolition crew blush, I can confidently say Landorus deserves their spot among the best of the best within this tier.

:Annihilape: B- -> B

While Bulk Up sets do undeniably struggle due to the far higher power level of STABmons with Annihilape getting nothing to compensate for it, more immediately threatening sets remind us we're still dealing with a Ghost Fighting STAB combo here. With Defiant allowing Annihilape to circumvent Intimidate from Pokemon that would otherwise check it like Landorus Therian, or Salamence, Choice Band Annihilape becomes incredibly difficult to switch in to, so much so Adamant has a very good roll to 2HKO even fully physically defensive Toxapex with Poltergeist without any hazards down, as well as 2HKO Max Physically Defensive Great Tusk with minimal chip! Annihilape is also able to carry vital, and powerful priority in STAB Shadow Sneak or STAB Mach Punch, which lets it still manage to be a decent Anti-Offense tool, if needed Annihilape can even use U-turn to keep up momentum VS catch all physical walls like Dondozo, or Great Tusk (which you can use U-turn against to drop it into 2HKO range of Close Combat). Poltergeist being non-contact is also a very great tool when it comes to being able to bypass normal means of punishing physical attackers such as Flame Body or Static off of Moltres or Zapdos, or invalidating the Rocky Helmet so many Pokemon try to employ already and hitting right past it.
Choice Scarf also proves to be a solid set, for very similar reasons to Choice Band in circumventing Intimidate and contact effects unlike so many other Physical Attackers with one of its most spammable moves, but also being able to get a nasty surprise in early with Final Gambit on an unfortunate switch in like Toxapex, Tusk, Gliscor, or even Dondozo, all of which do not appreciate a max HP Final Gambit, whether it be putting them in range of Pokemon they should otherwise check, or straight up annihilating them in the case of Toxapex and Gliscor, it allows Annihilape to get the jump on absolutely vital assets to many Pokemon commonly found on Balances/Stalls, which is invaluable for the offenses Scarf Annihilape can find itself on for all of its revenge killing, hit trading, and if needed nuclear sacrificing to facilitate other extremely potent teammates at the drop of a hat.
Overall, while Bulk Up has fallen off severely, I do think Choiced Annihilape has gone seriously under the radar, and definitely makes it worth at least a slight rise.

:Kingambit: S -> A+

Kingambit is obviously still an amazing Pokemon, however, I do believe it's not all it's cracked up to be. It feels like in the current metagame many teams are over-prepped for it without having to even give it a second thought simply because of the sheer number of Pokemon Kingambit finds itself caught out by and subsequently snuffed out. Very often Kingambit finds itself a Tera hog to even try to get around Pokemon like Landorus Therian, Great Tusk, Physically Defensive Toxapex, Will-O-Wisp Rotom Wash, and Iron Hands, and even that often finds itself requiring multiple Supreme Overlord boosts before it can even think about beating them, by which point because of recent meta shifts there's a lot of cases your opponent has basically already won the game.
Not to mention that Kingambit struggles very often in early play as well because while it does seem to switch into a fair bit on paper, in practice it fails to be as effective as one would believe.
Ghost resistances are simply not in demand, and the Ghosts that are viable in the tier are all running Infernal Parade which forces Kingambit to either be running Covert Cloak or simply pray they are not burned in the process, or blast right through it in the case of Annihilape and Ceruledge.
This is to say nothing of the other Pokemon it should be able to answer that in actuality shit on it, Kingambit for as prolific of a Knock Off user as it is hates being hit by it itself, and Tyranitar both always is packing that move, and can simply salt cure Kingambit down, as well as Choice Band sets usually either having Low Kick or Headlong Rush, both of which smash right through it. Meloetta's Boomburst is simply too strong for Kingambit to reliably switch into (especially with Bullet Punch instead of Sucker Punch), and the same story goes for moves such as Rillaboom's Flower Trick, and Salamence in general, and with all of this compounded by the fact that with the ban of Roaring Moon, Substitute Torch Song users like like Heatran, Volcanion, and Volcarona are getting stronger preventing Kingambit from simply coming in late game after sacrificing their team, this is even further combine with the fact in the same wake of Roaring Moon's ban, Great Tusk and Landorus Therian have become more capable of running offensive sets, making it even harder for Kingambit to find Pokemon it can turn games around on.
Overall while Kingambit is still a very great Pokemon for the fact it is a Kingambit, it should be noted the tier is not as kind to Kingambit as it once was.

:Heatran: A- -> A/A+

Heatran is the best steel type in the tier right now only second to Kingambit, the sheer volume of Pokemon it checks compounded by its great ability to pressure the opposing team with its expansive utility and offensive movepool make for a Pokemon that rarely feels like it isn't holding its own weight. Being able to check all of Iron Moth, Gholdengo, Meloetta, and Volcarona in one slot is a great asset in the current meta, and its ability to turn that into a setup opportunity with either Torch Song or Stealth Rock is a great way of consistently forcing progress that very few other Pokemon can replicate, Heatran also loves all the recent bans, Manaphy and Roaring Moon gone especially allowing Heatran to find plenty more opportunities to support its team throughout a game, as well as Hearthflame Ogerpon's ban a bit more indirectly for making its best friend Rillaboom a bit more reliable.

:Iron Moth: A+ -> A

Look up four move slot syndrome in the dictionary, and you'll find an image of Iron Moth listed right next to it. It simply has too much it wants to be running to be as consistent as its ranking lets on, it wants Tera Ground Tera Blast for Heatran, but it also wants Discharge to hit Toxapex without Tera, but it also wants Dazzling Gleam to hit Kommo-o and Ting-Lu, but it also wants Substitute to avoid Jet Punch from things like Wellspring Ogerpon and Urshifu Rapid Strike, but it also wants Mortal Spin to facilitate its teammates, but it also needs Torch Song to even function on top of all of that.
Iron Moth is a very dangerous threat, but it starts to get matchup fishy with how stark the contrast is between if Iron Moth has the coverage to beat its check or not, you either have the right move and get past just fine, or you don't and you're doomed.

and now for some more rapid fire, but still noteworthy opinions of mine.

:Rotom-Wash: A- -> A

Appreciates Roaring Moon leaving the tier to free itself to run its more potent offensive sets, also a very good check to Landorus Therian without sacrificing much offensive presence to do so.

:Wo-Chien: B- -> B

Lost Manaphy which it could originally somewhat check in the recent ban wave, but also had two massive problems for it taken out of the picture of Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon and Roaring Moon, as well as being rock solid into the Ogerpon forms at the moment with the exception of the rare Pyro Ball on some variants, as well as Greninja and Crawdaunt.

:Cyclizar: B -> B+

Good wallbreaker and revenge killer making it a solid fit on more offensive teams with access to some decent defensive utility by virtue of Regenerator allowing it to hard switch into resisted attacks, as well as being very good at wearing down a lot of the current RegenVesters with the sheer power of its STABs for teammates. Big fan of current meta trends in how it can take decent advantage of Non-Freeze-Dry Rotom Wash and Volcanion.

:Armarouge: + :Gallade: C/C- -> C+

Psyspam is good, what can I say? These two abusers inparticular match up very well into a lot of the top Pokemon at the moment and can very easily rob games right out of an opponent's feet because of the sheer power they obtain under the Psychic Terrain support of Indeedee, it should be noted I also believe Armarouge is quite a legitimate threat even outside of Psychic Terrain, but that is still niche enough a role that I don't think it should be ranked higher than C+ because of that fact alone.

:Garganacl: A- -> B+

When was the last time someone used this thing? No seriously, the only things Garganacl has going for it over Tyranitar are its status immunity, and Iron Defense Body Press sets, while Iron Defense Body Press is barely even worth it because of all the Flower Trick and Surging Strikes all over the place invalidating it from being able to fully abuse its potency as a win condition in the first place.

:Zapdos-Galar: B -> B+

Highly potent for very similar reasons to Banded Annihilape, however with the advantage of significantly greater preservation ability, a great speed tier, and a STAB combo that literally only Gholdengo is capable of safely switching to, but even that becomes dicey with Hazards + Knock Off. Life Orb in particular is stupefyingly hard to hold off between its big kill STABs, Knock, relative survivability even in the face of hazard stack, and priority that gets the jump on many Pokemon that could otherwise revenge kill.

If you anyone wishes to discuss any of these more feel free to reply! I'm always open to conversation, I just figured since the tier is nearing the end of its time in DLC 1 it'd be a good time to re-spark some conversation and carry it on over into DLC 2.

The VR needs a pretty comprehensive redo imo. The metagame has shifted a number of times since it was last edited, including almost the entirety of DLC 1 and introduction of DLC 2. It might be a little early to really know what's going to be meta in DLC 2 but I don't think it's too early to discuss some of the more blatantly off entries on the list.

:roaring_moon:,:ursaluna-bloodmoon:,:ogerpon-hearthflame: whatever -> don't use me I'm banned
>_>

:ting-lu: Ting-Lu A+ -> A-/B+
The meta shifts have not been kind to Ting-Lu. It has more competition as a bulky Ground, more prominent Grass and Water types, and special Flying types getting better STAB. While Ting-Lu still has its absurd natural bulk its typing and four move slot syndrome leave it rather outclassed compared to other current members of A+ like Great Tusk, or even members of A like Tyranitar, both of whom I would slot onto teams before Ting-Lu in most cases.

:volcanion: A -> A+
Volcanion is without a doubt one of the most influential and powerful offensive Pokemon in the metagame. Its access to Torch Song boosting combined with strong priority makes it difficult to switch into, while its bulk, ability, and potential Tera Ground make it very hard to defeat offensively. Every team must be prepared for Volcanion, and Volcanion is a good option for almost any team although it fits best on bulky offense. Its mere existence makes life considerably harder for Pokemon such as Araquanid and Urshifu.

:serperior: UR -> C/C+
Serperior is extremely one-note, and being a weak mono-Grass STAB attacker sucks. But it's the only viable Contrary user, and useful in Grassy Terrain while being naturally fast. It's worth noting that there are non-Contrary ways of boosting your SpA through offensive moves now, being Torch Song and Mystical Power.

drampa getting lazy now. there are more but i'll end it here.

New things that should probably be rated but IDK where:

Now that some time has passed, I want to give some thoughts on a lower tier Pokemon that deserves a bit more respect than the VR gives them at the moment.

Metagross
B- -> B

Kingambit and Weavile getting out of the picture have really allowed all the good traits of Metagross to really shine!

Metagross @ Choice Band
Ability: Clear Body
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Photon Geyser
- Knock Off
- Hammer Arm
- Bullet Punch

Psychic STAB is incredibly valuable in the tier because of how shaky its resistances and immunities end up being as checks, compact that fact with Choice Band and a 100 Base Power Physical STAB that both makes no contact and has no drawback, and Metagross is an absolutely devastating wallbreaker, putting massive pressure on the common defensive cores found in the tier, while also being a big threat VS Offensive Teams with its ability to trade hit for hit and come out on top with the likes of Pokemon such as Meloetta, Deoxys Speed, and the Eon Duo, this gives it a lot it can offensively check on a game to game basis, to say nothing of its great priority in Bullet Punch which slams Kyurem, Iron Boulder, Terrakion, Ogerpon Cornerstone, Mamoswine, Iron Valiant, and common Tera Fairy abusers, as well as picking off lots of other miscellaneous threats after some chip with its raw power, all this lends to Metagross being a great fit on not just Bulky Offenses and Balances for its strong matchups against these faster teams, but offensive teams itself! Even when it's running into roadblocks like Ting-Lu, Slowbro, Corviknight, or Skarmory, it can still make meaningful progress against them through being able to simply Knock them off and allow for teammates to more easily take advantage of them, this is especially relevant for Ting-Lu who typically has a lot harder of a time doing its job when it no longer has its Covert Cloak. Overall, I think Metagross is a fair bit overlooked in the current meta, when it absolutely does not deserve to be.
