Togekiss @ Choice Specs
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Air Slash
- Dazzling Gleam
- Fire Blast
- Psyshock/Trick

This set must be more popular. Most of ''normal'' checks(nihilego excadrill thundurus) are unstable for this pokemon(ofc nasty plot can't break them).
And air slash breaks all slower wall(even chansey). Specs reduce number of attempts and make kiss easier to break defensive core(scarf give your opponent more chance to move).
Because of 2x stealth rock it needs special support but this mon is obviously considerable wallbreaker.

most of this stuff isnt crazy unique ideas that ive thought of specifically, but more so just cute things that u can do in uu that i've used to some success

:ss/Jirachi:
Jirachi @ Power Herb
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 192 HP / 64 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Psychic
- Thunder
- Meteor Beam

kind of a ghetto necrozma tbh but a nice lure that can dome stuff like moltres and skarmory, as these tend to be typical jirachi switch ins. spamming thunder later on is also nice, fishing for that sweet 60% para.

:ss/Primarina:
Primarina @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 112 HP / 216 SpA / 180 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flip Turn
- Moonblast
- Psychic
- Scald

a nice primarina set on more offensive teams, letting u freely click strong stabs and not care about amoonguss, while fturning on everything else. timid spread to outspeed aegislash/mandi/skarm/everything else at the 220 benchmark bc this thing cant take too many hits when it has uninvested bulk, shocker.

:ss/Amoonguss:
Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stun Spore
- Synthesis
- Sludge Bomb
- Seed Bomb

a standard amoonguss thats simply foregoing spore for stun spore. basically, when any1 sees an amoonguss they are gonna be fearing spore, so theyll use things to soak up spore turns like nihilego/hydreigon/drill etc, but meanwhile stun spore completely neuters these mons. not having foul play isnt that big of an issue since u can cut the speed of dd mons that you'd typically check like mence/gyarados, but keep in mind the risk still since the move only has 75% acc.

:ss/Celesteela:
Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 44 SpA / 84 SpD / 128 Spe
Docile Nature
- Air Slash
- Heavy Slam
- Substitute
- Leech Seed

dont look at the mess of this spread i assure u theres some science behind it (what is it idfk LOL prob to not let some scalds break sub or something) anyways this set plays a bit differently from the standard protect set, as now u can sit on things like slowking, and with a couple of flinches, can even threaten things out that would otherwise just kind of ignore celesteela. setting up subs on weak grass types that try to hit it with status or weak knock offs is the most satisfying thing ever btw.

:ss/Volcanion:
Volcanion @ Power Herb
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Solar Beam
- Flame Charge

a fun volcanion set that we unfortunately wont be able to use for too much longer (why is this thing so good in ou randomly). while this thing can obviously own swamperts and most other water types, the real draw is killing slowking with solar beam, as that is a pokemon that otherwise sits on volcanion forever. i believe solar beam only does like ~70%, so you need some prior chip on slowking, but this shouldnt be too hard to do when fishing for steam eruption burns and having rocks up/prior slowking chip from other mons etc.

Welcome to UU Creative and Underrated Sets! This project will be used for sharing effective yet non-standard or uncommon sets for any viable Pokemon in SS UU. There will be an archive for sets the community posts that are particularly effective or outside of the box. Here are some guidelines for posting sets in this thread:

What constitutes an underrated and/or creative moveset?
  • Creative Movesets would be those that are:
  1. Not commonly seen on the ladder whatsoever.
  2. It successfully pulls off a role and is not strictly outclassed by others.
  3. It takes advantage of metagame trends.
  4. It might be able to surprise and demolish Pokemon that normally counter the usual sets, but does not become a gimmick in order to do so.
  5. It has had some success (sufficient testing/replays).
  • Underrated Movesets would be those that are:
  1. Somewhat common but still under-utilized despite being effective choices in the current metagame.
  2. Underrated sets are meant to prey on specific facets of the metagame.
What are some things that constitute a gimmick?
  1. Movesets that are highly inconsistent.
  2. Unviable Pokémon.
  3. Movesets that are inferior and ineffective compared to existing movesets, or use an obscure move for the sake of hitting an even more obscure check or counter.
Thread Rules:
  1. NO GIMMICKS. They don't add any positives to the discussion and only derail the thread. These posts may be subject to being deleted.
  2. Explain a little as to what your set does and how it accomplishes its goal.
  3. Dumping multiple sets at once is perfectly acceptable as long as all are well explained.
  4. Replays are not required, but are encouraged whenever possible. Make sure if you use replays, they aren't low on ladder and adequately reflect the niche of the set you're posting.
  5. Be nice.
Posts that don't follow these rules will be deleted, so please try to keep them in mind.

Happy posting!
Talonflame @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- U-turn
- Flamethrower
- Taunt

This set is beyond great, initially used it when scizor was in UU. This flame takes a +2 bullet punch and also has a guaranteed OHKO onto offensive scizor. It has momentum, one of the fastest Taunt users in the game that isn't a prankster mon, and defog for those nasty hazards. Main thing to watch out for is knock off, because those Stealth Rocks hurt!

How badly does Amoongus need Black Sludge /Leftovers passive recovery? Would Scope Lens (or whatever the item that increases accuracy, I do not mean the crit boosting item) be worth the slot instead?

hariyana grande
Amoonguss has pretty free choice in item, but Scope Lens is not the item to put in that slot. Amoonguss doesn't need Scope Lens, even if you choose to run Stun Spore, since Amoonguss gets many opportunities to use its attacks throughout a game, thus making up for poor accuracy. You would be better suited to using another item if you don't want to run Black Sludge. Some alternatives are Rocky Helmet, Assault Vest, and Eject Button, each of which have their own uses.

Primarina @ Leftovers
Ability: Liquid Voice
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Def / 12 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Rest
- Snore
- Moonblast
I saw someone using snore Prim a while back and have loved it ever since. Outside of strong physical mons that can hit it for super-effective damage, like Zarude and Tabu bulu, Its calm minds allow it to beat literally anything else in the game on the special side. Against slower mons like chancy it can ruin them with snore's 30% flinch rate and the surprise factor is second to none. It can end games when the opponent thinks they have a free switch and just get blasted. With team support to remove its counters, in my opinion, its the scariest set in the tier.

Krookodile
Krookodile @ Leftovers / Chople Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 Spe
Impish Nature
- Bulk Up
- Scale Shot
- Power Trip / Knock Off
- High Horsepower

(Bulkier)

Or

Krookodile @ Leftovers / Chople Berry
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Scale Shot
- High Horsepower / Stone Edge
- Power Trip / Knock Off

Power Trip Bulk Up Crookodile is an extremely effective stetup sweeper that will never be expected. It can raise it's speed thanks to Scale Shot, which will make it blaze past everything not scarfed. The main difference between the two sets is their EV distribution and abillity. Intiminate allows for more consistent setup, and potentially lets Krookodile swap into threats like Zygarde-10%, and set up. The Moxie variant is a lot better as late-game cleaner, as each time it scores a KO, it gets a +1 in attack, as well as Power Trip getting stronger. Scale Shot is also highly synergistic, as Krookodile can offset it's drawback of lowered defense with Bulk Up. Since Krookodile has no reliable healing, this set is prone to getting worn down, so it's suggested to pair it with pokemon that can pass it wishes, or other means of healing, like Tapu Bulu's Grassy Terrain. The speed investment allows Krookodile to outspeed Crobat after a Scale Shot boost (fastest viable mon in the meta), but it can be altered to max speed with jolly, to outspeed common revenge killers like Scarf Rotom-W. These sets are hard walled by Mandibuzz and bulky Galarian-Moltres, but a change as simple as changing High Horsepower or Power Trip into Stone Edge will quickly turn the tables on them. Knock Off can be used as a more dependable STAB, as it consistently hits hard, and doesn't require prior setup to deal massive damage. Since most priority moves are physical, Krookodile can pretty easily absorb them after a few bulk up's, but it is a noteable flaw that it's weak to many common priority moves like Aqua Jet and Mach Punch. This set pairs up perfectly with Cresselia, as it can provide it Leech Seed recovery, as well as stave off Fighting and Fairy-Types, while Krookodile can offer it protection against Electric-Type attacks. Chople Berry can allow Krookodile to tank a Fighting-Type attack and retalliate with a boosted High Horsepower.

Nihilego
Nihilego @ Black Sludge
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 184 HP / 72 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Meteor Beam
- Substitute
- Sludge Bomb
- Pain Split / Coverage / Steatlh Rocks

SubBeam Nihilego is a set perfectly designed to bait in and destroy Chansey. The set runs high HP investment in order to be able to set up a substitute on Chansey's seismic toss without it breaking. By making the substitute not break, Nihilego can set up a meteor beam and get free special attack boosts. If the situation gets dicey, Pain Split lets Nihilego heal off any damage done to it. Once this Nihilego has grabbed a KO, it outspeeds everything short of a jolly scarf Zarude. Since Nihilego has essentially no way to hit it, Excadrill is an easy counter to it as it takes no more than 30% from meteor beam, even after a boost. It's extremely advised to have Excadrill lures when making a team with this Nihilego, as it makes Nihilego esentially useless. A perfect lure that greatly helps Nihilego is Tapu Bulu, who doesn't get OHKO'd by Excadrill's Iron Head, but can OHKO it back with High Horsepower. This works even better as Grassy Terrain halves the damage from Earthquake, making Nihilego potentially tank an Earthquake thanks to its high HP investment.

Darmanitan
Darmanitan @ Salac Berry
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Fire Punch
- Belly Drum
- Earthquake

SSH UU

Darmanitan is one of the scariest wallbeakers in the game and can immensely pressure even stall teams with bulky waters. Since standard Darmaniatan is so strong, many teams will have no choice but to sack frail pokemon or swap into resists. This Darmanitan set takes advantage of those situations by setting up a substitute. After a sub is safely set up, the game is essentially over, as it can absolutely demolish any team once it gets set up. At +6 it can OHKO even max defense Hippowdon without rocks, led alone any frail revenge killers like Hydraigon. Salac Berry lets Darmanitan outspeed a great majority of the metagame, with the only exceptions being scarfers faster than Heidraigon.

HypnoBat
:ss/crobat:
Crobat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 20 HP / 188 Atk / 148 Def / 152 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Roost
- Brave Bird
- Hypnosis

(EV'd to live 2 Zarude Darkest Lariats).

I've been saving this one for a while (since pre-Goltres ban) and I'm really happy to be posting about this. Hypnosis Crobat is super cool and is an excellent way to make progress against Pokemon that Crobat normally can't meaningfully damage (particularly Steel-types and Electric-types). You're probably doubting it at first given Hypnosis' less than ideal accuracy, but Crobat can actually make good use of Hypnosis for 2 main reasons:
  • Crobat is really, really, REALLY naturally fast. It outspeeds the entire UU metagame with very little investment (the current investment creeps Salazzle). What this means is that Crobat almost always gets 2 chances to fire off Hypnosis. The odds of missing 2 Hypnoses are only 16%, meaning that 84% of the time, Crobat is putting something to sleep.
  • Crobat has great natural bulk for a Pokemon of its speed, meaning that it doesn't mind taking a hit in order to get a Hypnosis off if need be. The fact that it is so fast also allows it to divert EV investment into bulk instead of being forced to dump a ton into Speed, allowing it to become quite tanky. Roost also helps with this.
Hypnosis itself, barring its accuracy, also has the amazing quality of not being blocked by Grass-types or Overcoat, like with Spore or Sleep Powder. This means there are NO immunities to Crobat's Hypnosis - if it lands, something is sleeping. Crobat can then make use of U-Turn to pivot out of the sleeping Pokemon (or the Pokemon your opponent chooses to switch in) and bring in a teammate to deal with the opposing Pokemon accordingly. The one major downside to using HypnoBat is that you cannot run Defog. As such, this set must be run with a hazard remover elsewhere on the team, limiting the amount of builds it fits on. That said, if you can fit it, HypnoBat will put in a ton of work for you. There is nothing quite like sleeping an Aegislash or Skarmory that thought it had a free switch-in.

Chinese Golurk

Golurk @ Assault Vest
Ability: Iron Fist
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 172 HP / 188 Atk / 64 SpD / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Poltergeist
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
- Close Combat

This unorthodox approach gives this rarely seen titan a chance to shine in UU. The given bulk of 172/0/64 allows Golurk to take special hits more comfortably and even lets it survive those it is normally unable to like Sun sweeper Venusaur's Giga drain, Thundurus-T's Grass Knot, and non - Choice Specs Keldeo's Scald to name a few. It is also an emergency answer to +1 Nihilego thanks to its ability to take on a boosted Grass Knot even after rocks chip. The 84 speed EVs allows Golurk to outpace defensive Scizor and be able to nuke it with Fire Punch as well as giving it the ability to 1V1 with Sub-CM Primarina... Yes you read it right, it beats Primarina thanks to its special bulk being able to avoid getting 2HKO'd by Scald (just wish you don't get burned).

THE COOLER REGIDRAGO

Regidrago @ Choice Specs
Ability: Dragon's Maw
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dragon Energy
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse
- Explosion/Sleep Talk

This set separates itself from the standard Choice Scarf set courtesy to its sheer destructive prowess capable of devastating even the bulkiest of walls in the special side of spectrum. A Dragon Energy from an unscathed Regidrago boast an immense base power of 150 and in conjunction with Dragon's Maw and Choice Specs, it is capable of 2HKOing Chansey after rocks. Maximum speed investment is required to outpace as many threats as it can.

The fourth moveslot is basically filler. Explosion is for doing more damage to dragon immune foes like Prim and togekiss while Sleep Talk gives it the ability to switch into Spore.

Comfey @ Leftovers
Ability: Triage
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Draining Kiss
- Giga Drain
- Stored Power

A set I saw Dr. Elite using last night, I think that Comfey (and most Fairy-types in general) are pretty cool because the best Pokémon in the tier, Cobalion, often forgoes Iron Head in favor of Megahorn and Stone Edge. The set flops into any Steel-type not named Cobalion but I still think it's a cool late-game cleaner. Here's a replay of it in action: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8uu-1702361171

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is coming soon so it’s time to reveal my weird sets from this end of generation.

Obstagoon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Parting Shot
- Body Slam
- Trick / Close Combat

Obstagoon is a pokémon that is unfortunately wall by cobalion. Guts will therefore have no utility in SS UU. However, Choice Scarf should be ok. Indeed, 95 speed is ok because you can outspeed some other scarf users like Krookodile or Rotom and you can annoy some dragon dance users like Necrozma and Gyarados with Parting Shot + Knock Off. Defiant is a nice ability here because Obstagoon comes out on defog or Intimadate users like Salamence. Body Slam is a great STAB here because Paralysis is a great statut at the moment in the tier. You can see a lot of guss with Stun Spore for example. Close Combat is an option for touching Cobalion while Trick is an interesting option against stall.

Darmanitan @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Power Swap
- Flamethrower
- Grass Knot
- Focus Blast

Well ... just a Fat Tea Rick Sea weird set don't use this lmao

Zygarde-10% @ Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Atk / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Coil
- Thousand Arrows
- Substitute
- Glare

I find that Coil + Glare on zydog is fun. From a competitive point of view it is very complicated to set up. Rest is definitely better.
