Caribolt [Crates] (F)

Tier: ★★★☆☆

Type: Grass / Electric

Abilities: Overgrow / Galvanize (Unlocked)
  • When this Pokemon's HP is lower than 33% (flat), the Base Attack Power of any grass attack is increased by two (2). (eg Giga Drain goes from 8 to 10, Solar Beam from 12 to 14)
  • By default, this Pokemon's Normal-type moves are Electric-type moves, and have an additional one (1) BAP boost. When toggled, this Pokemon's Normal-type attacks have their BAP increased by one (1). Only Normal-typed moves changed by Galvanize receive this boost, and not all Electric-type moves. If a Pokemon has been skill-swapped multiple abilities that change Normal-type attacks, the attacks become dual-typed, but the BAP boosts of the abilities do not stack.

Dragapult [Diazin] (F)

Tier: ★★★☆☆

Type: Dragon / Ghost

Abilities: Clear Body / Infiltrator / Cursed Body (Unlocked)
  • This Pokemon's body structure makes it immune to stat-lowering moves used by opponents. (e.g. Intimidate, Growl, Screech etc.)
  • Through a combination of speed and cunning, this Pokemon easily circumvents the effects of Aurora Veil, Light Screen, Mist, Reflect, Safeguard, and Substitute with all of its attacks.
  • When this Pokemon is struck by an opponent's attack, there is a 30% chance to inflict the attacker with the Disabled status. While Disabled, the attacker cannot use the move that struck this Pokemon.

Porygon-Z [Pierce] (NB)

Tier: ★★★☆☆

Type: Normal

Abilities: Adaptability / Download / Analytic (Unlocked)
  • The moves that match this Pokemon's type have their Base Attack Power increased by one (1).
  • At the beginning of the match, the Pokemon analyzes the opponent and downloads data that lets it deal more damage. This Pokemon receives a one (1) stage boost (adjusting the natural stage as well) on the offense that strikes an opponent's weaker defense stat. (e.g. does more damage with special attacks when facing Aggron, which has higher Defense, and attack when facing Hypno, which has higher Special Defense. For ties, Special Attack is raised.) If this Pokemon is sent out vs 2 or more Pokemon, combine the Defense of all opponents and the Special Defense of all opponents to determine which stat is boosted.
  • If this Pokemon attacks after its target during an action, its attacks have one (1) more Base Attack Power.

Medicham [Medium] (F)

Tier: ★★★☆☆

Type: Fighting / Psychic

Abilities: Pure Power / Telepathy (Unlocked)
  • This Pokemon has immense inner strength that grows with its development, raising its Attack by one Rank for each evolution level (first of three stages = 1, first of two stages or second of three stages = 2, fully evolved = 3). If Skill Swapped, the swapped Pokemon's Attack is only raised by one Rank.
  • This Pokemon has a mental link with its allies in multiple battles, which allows it to avoid taking damage from allied attacks that damage each foe or the entire field like Blizzard and Earthquake. They are still affected by an opponents spread damage attacks.

Welcome everyone to this exciting battle for the Group stage of the BBP Sword and Shield tournament!

This match comes to you from Group B, a powerhouse pool of Dogfish44, Maxim, and Mowtom, each of them having won a tournament in the past! Our specific match looks at Maxim and Mowtom however so lets get a look at these two specifically!

Maxim brings a team of almost all starter Pokemon! Getting the classic Fire-, Water-, Grass-core defensive down pat and making sure that they can all pack quite the punch too! On top of the starters, he brings Gardevoir, a tried and true BBP staple with all the moves one could ever want, and strong stats to back it up! How will this team fare? Let's find out!

On the other hand Mowtom has her team of "STAB Beatsticks" as she likes to call them, which is a strategy that I personally am all for. Why worry about super effective attacks when you can just knock things out with a Hyper Beam or two?! Of particular interest on her team is Diazin the Dragapult, a speedy attacker that I'm excited to see in use.

I think that concludes it for our introductions so lets get to the good stuff! The coin flip!

head - Maxim, tails - Mowtom

That sure looks like a head to me! So this is how everything is going to shake down!

Order of Operations
Maxim sends out his first pokemon
Mowtom sends our her first and orders
Maxim orders
Gemini Taurus refs!

Best of luck to both battlers today and here's to an exciting fight!

"It's been a long time coming Mowtom. The chance to prove that I can win a tournament on my own merits. Prepare to be destroyed!"

"But all I want to do is have fun, we don't need to be so brutal..."

Sending out Caribolt w/ Magnet.

And the tournament battle begins! It looks like both battlers have chosen strong, fast attackers for their first sendout, Diazin the Dragapult and Autumn the Caribolt. Each trainer also selected offensive items to further augment their offensive prowess!

Being the faster of the two, Diazin begins with a Flamethrower attack, dealing a good chunk of damage to Autumn, who retaliates with a weaker Horn Leech, but recovers a bit of HP to make up for it.

Not happy seeing the Caribolt healing, Diazin decides a Fire Blast would do the trick better and does a huge amount of damage, while also leaving Autumn with a burn! Realizing that this matchup is not going in her favour, Autumn Volt Switches, and with a boost from her Magnet, she is ready to return at the end of the round.

The last attack is very similar to the first with Diazin sending another Flamethrower and doing plenty of damage, and Autumn returning with a Horn Leech, although this time, the burn prevents a lot of the damage that Horn Leech would have done, and reduces the healing, and Diazin's cursed body prevents further Horn Leeches (not that it matters because Autumn is switching out anyways)

We see at the end of the first round that Mowtom has taken a good lead in the damage and energy department, and with Caribolt having a burn, she definitely has the advantage. However Maxim now has the opportunity to switch and create whatever matchup he wants, and may be able to take the advantage back! As always in tournaments though, anything can still happen!

With Autumn taken back and put in a safer place to tend to that burn, Maxim chooses Sebastian the Blastoise to replace her!

Diazin, noticing her new opponent, is not a fan of the new matchup and decides to head back to Mowtom as fast as she can! Realizing this, Sebastian produces a ground shattering Roar making Diazin so scared that she doesn't even care who gets sent in after her!

Before Diazin makes it back to Mowtom however, she takes in a large amount of sunlight, preparing to give the Blastoise a parting gift that is sure to sting! Sebastian returns the favour with a powerful icy Blizzard as well as a Dark Pulse of energy to ensure Diazin stays with Mowtom!

Just before she reaches her trainer, Diazin unleashes her powerful beam of sunlight right at the turtle dealing a huge amount of damage. And with a deep breath, she returns to Mowtom and forces Pierce onto the field instead!

Pierce seems ready to go as the virtual duck glances over his opponent for the next round and powers up accordingly!

That round we saw powerful blows going both ways, but what will happen next now that Pierce has taken the field and boosted their strongest stat!

"Pierce, take a Silk Scarf. Let's show off what you can really do!"
"I like this plan!"

"So let me get this straight, not only is Dragapult not dead, but we now have two nearly dead Pokemon to Mowtom's fully healthy team? Thus making victory basically impossible at this point."

"Pretty much yeah."

7EN

Blastoise was knocked out!

Now that Pierce has taken to the field and eyed up it's opponent it immediately realizes Sebastian's grass-type weakness and takes in sunlight like its ally before it! Trying to distract the Porygon-Z, Sebastien does a full body tackle that seems to do extra damage thanks it its extra thick shell. It does't faze Pierce as he unleashes a beam of light that does a ton of damage thanks to their analyzing of their opponent's weak spots.

Swiftly to avoid taking another tackle, Pierce sends a bolt of electricity to knock out the Blastoise! It looks to me like Mowtom has taken a bit of a lead but there is still a lot of game to play!

Mowtom has increased her lead even more this round, with two of Maxim's pokemon knocked out, but we still have at least half a battle to go so who knows what could happen next!

After Autumn was knocked out, Ricardo takes his place ready to avenge its teammate! Pierce eyes up its new foe and tucks his head in ready to take a few hits before dealing them itself. Ricardo, wanting to take advantage of Pierce's weakness becomes a fighting-type before planting two solid kicks on its digital enemy! Pierce ends with its final charge dealing a huge chunk of damage to Ricardo before taking another sweep and getting knocked out!

Maxim has managed to reduce the gap between him and his opponent this round but both teams are looking fairly healthy still! Stay tuned!

Taking the place of it's digital friend, Medium is sent out raring to go! Unfortunately, it seems that Ricardo is prepared to deal with his new opponent and attacks with a powerful acrobatic lunge severely hurting the Medicham! Not wanting to deal with type-changing shenanigans, Medium uses its Rabuta Berry to unleash a powerful neutral attack!

Both pokemon repeat this course of action again, but the third time is slightly different. Medium hits first with its Rabuta-fueled damage, but it appears that Ricardo was preparing for a super powerful acrobatic flip which does just enough damage to knock out Medium!

Maxim has now knocked out two of Mowtom's pokemon in back to back rounds! But Mowtom still has the lead! Stay tuned to see this match which is quickly approaching its conclusion!

"Really, Medium? Did you really have to say that?"
"Apparently, she did."
"Whatever. Take a Magnet, Crates, and let's try to finish this."
