Now for the next Victim of the Week we have... Calm Mind Tapu Koko!
:ss/Tapu Koko:
Tapu Koko @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- Roost
- Calm Mind

With it's stab combination hitting most of the metagame neutrally or super effectively, CM Tapu Koko is a really solid cleaner in teams like Trick Barb Clef + Victini HStack by Felix. Roost alongside the SpDef Raise of Calm Mind makes it even harder to deal with for some special attackers like Scarf Tapu Fini or non Calm Mind Clefable. What pokemon are thus able to handle this Tapu Koko?

SpD Quagsire
:ss/quagsire:

Quagsire
@ Leftovers :leftovers:
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Recover
- Earthquake
- Scald
- Toxic

The smiling blue blob effortlessly sits on Tapu Koko constantly, thanks to Unaware. The investment is maximum to ensure that even with heavy chip, Quagsire still walls it.

As such, SpD Quagsire is a counter to Tapu Koko.

Hippowdon as a Counter

:ss/hippowdon:
Hippowdon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 20 Def / 240 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off

Being immune to the terrain boosted thunderbolt is obviously key here, but Hippo has enough special bulk to eat Dazzling Gleams all day. Even if Hippo switches in to 3 layers of spikes and SR, Hippo has to already be weakened for it to fail to counter Koko. Earthquake back then has a 81.3% chance to OHKO, an effective 100% after sandstorm damage. Hippo also has Slack Off to keep healthy so it can switch in multiple times over a match.

:tapu-koko:
Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. Hippowdon: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever

252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 248 HP / 240+ SpD Hippowdon: 94-112 (22.4 - 26.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 248 HP / 240+ SpD Hippowdon: 94-112 (22.4 - 26.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock, 3 layers of Spikes, and Leftovers recovery

+1 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 248 HP / 240+ SpD Hippowdon: 142-168 (33.8 - 40%) -- 31.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock, 3 layers of Spikes, and Leftovers recovery

:hippowdon:
0 Atk Hippowdon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Koko: 270-320 (96 - 113.8%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

I'm surprised this demonic f*ck pink blob hasn't even been mentioned yet, but..

Eviolite Chansey as a Counter

:ss/chansey:
Chansey @ Eviolite
Level: 100
Bold Nature
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock

This demon straight up counters most special attacker that exists and Tapu Koko is one of them.
Chansey legit does 1/3 of Tapu Koko's HP with Seismic Toss, and you can use Toxic to prevent permanent recovery, as the Tapu Koko mentioned does not have taunt.
Even if the Tapu Koko does have Taunt, it's most likely a screens Tapu Koko, which has no recovery.
Tapu Koko at +6 literally can't one shot Chansey, only 2HKO, but Chansey can just swallow that and click. softboiled
Who tf am I even kidding, how would a Tapu Koko even easily get to +6
Even if the Tapu Koko does get to +6, it's Electric Terrain will be gone, calc will be in bold

+6 252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 300-354 (42.6 - 50.3%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO

+6 252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey in Electric Terrain: 390-460 (55.4 - 65.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+6 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 267-315 (37.9 - 44.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

+1 252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey in Electric Terrain: 147-174 (20.9 - 24.7%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

+1 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 102-120 (14.5 - 17%) -- possible 6HKO

+3 252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey in Electric Terrain: 244-288 (34.7 - 40.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Chansey Seismic Toss vs. 0 HP Tapu Koko: 100-100 (35.5 - 35.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Reserving SpDef Landorus-T

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock / Knock Off
- U-turn
- Toxic

Check. Takes Dazzling Gleams fairly well, with +1 being only a 3HKO. Meanwhile, Landorus-T's EQ is an OHKO. Check because Lando can't come in forever due to the lack of recovery. Sassy for them slow U-turns.

Landorus-T on the offensive:

0 Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Koko: 338-402 (120.2 - 143%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Landorus-T on the defensive:

252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Landorus-Therian: 88-105 (23 - 27.5%) -- 3.6% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Landorus-Therian: 132-156 (34.6 - 40.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Magnezone as a counter I think

:Magnezone: @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 HP / 124 SpA / 132 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Light Screen
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Toxic

Light screen combined with the bulk investment allow magnezone to tank all of koko’s attacks including +6 tbolt under electric terrain. It can then use flash cannon and toxic to eliminate koko if it attempts to boost to +6 or roost spam. Flash cannon can also 2hko koko if it needs to as well.
+6 252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 132 SpD Magnezone in Electric Terrain through Light Screen: 145-171 (42.1 - 49.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

124+ SpA Magnezone Flash Cannon vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Koko: 166-196 (59 - 69.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

:ss/tapu bulu:

Tapu Bulu @ Leftovers
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 148 HP / 108 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Close Combat
- Synthesis
(Counter)

252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 148 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Bulu: 109-130 (34.2 - 40.8%) -- 62.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
108 Atk Tapu Bulu Horn Leech vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 127-150 (45.1 - 53.3%) -- 35.5% chance to 2HKO
+1 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 148 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Bulu: 165-195 (51.8 - 61.3%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

This spread allows bulu to switch in koko and live a non boosted gleam or a +1 gleam if they choose to calm mind. Horn leech does around 50 and lets bulu recover up including terrain and leftovers, also has synthesis to live throughout the game. You can swords dance if they try to roost stall and force them out so yeah.

Rillaboom @ Leftovers
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Grassy Glide
- Knock Off
- Drain Punch

Rillaboom is a great CHECK to tapu koko as it can switch into any attack and threaten a 2hko with grassy glide or setting up on tapu koko and ohko'ing it with grassy glide. Tapu koko even at +1 does not do enough to rillaboom before either getting 2hko;ed by grassy glide or by getting ohko'ed after rillaboom sets up

252+ Atk Rillaboom Grassy Glide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko in Grassy Terrain: 183-216 (65.1 - 76.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

+2 252+ Atk Rillaboom Grassy Glide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko in Grassy Terrain: 364-429 (129.5 - 152.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Rillaboom: 142-168 (35.5 - 42%) -- 83.7% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock, Leftovers recovery, and Grassy Terrain recovery

+1 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Rillaboom: 211-250 (52.7 - 62.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock, Leftovers recovery, and Grassy Terrain recovery

:ss/excadrill:

Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin

Excadrill is a check. Its typing gives it a resistance to both of Koko's attacks, allowing it to switch in relatively easily and either threaten an OHKO with Earthquake or set up alongside it.

Dazzling Gleam does become a 2HKO at +3, but if Sand is up, Excadrill can afford to tank one from full, since Sand Rush makes it faster.

:excadrill:
252 Atk Excadrill Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Koko: 384-452 (136.6 - 160.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Excadrill Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Koko: 153-181 (54.4 - 64.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 Atk Excadrill Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Koko: 306-361 (108.8 - 128.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Excadrill Rapid Spin vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Koko: 64-76 (22.7 - 27%) -- 43% chance to 4HKO
+2 252 Atk Excadrill Rapid Spin vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Koko: 128-151 (45.5 - 53.7%) -- 41% chance to 2HKO

:koko:
252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Excadrill: 75-88 (20.7 - 24.3%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Excadrill: 111-132 (30.7 - 36.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Excadrill: 148-175 (40.9 - 48.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+3 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Excadrill: 186-219 (51.5 - 60.6%) -- 91.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+6 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Excadrill: 297-350 (82.2 - 96.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

For some reason, Ferrothorn can learn Swords Dance and Curse. This allows for some surprise OHKOs. Curse allows Gyro Ball reach its max base power.

+2 4 Atk Ferrothorn Gyro Ball (98 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Clefable: 518-612 (131.4 - 155.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 4 Atk Ferrothorn Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Clefable: 422-500 (107.1 - 126.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 4 Atk Ferrothorn Gyro Ball (150 BP) vs. +1 0 HP / 0 Def Grassy Seed Hawlucha: 261-307 (87.8 - 103.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

+2 4 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pelipper in Grassy Terrain: 229-271 (70.8 - 83.9%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

This needs to give up Steath Rock or Spikes for those moves, while keeping Leech Seed.

Hi. The Victim of the Week is Tapu Koko, thus the calcs against other mons like Hawlucha and Clefable don't really matter. Please make sure to
  1. Specify what set you are submitting (moves, nature, evs, ...)
  2. If possible, show the respective calcs of Ferrothorn vs Tapu Koko.

SpDef Gastrodon

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Clear Smog
- Recover

Submitting SpDef Gastrodon as a Counter to Calm Mind Tapu Koko. Unboosted Dazzling Gleam against this Gastrodon set is a 5HKO without leftovers, and a 6HKO with leftovers. Gastrodon additionally only needs to survive one hit to get rid of Koko’s boosts entirely with Clear Smog, and can survive a Dazzling Gleam at +4 and then one unboosted attack as well to recover its own HP.

252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 87-103 (20.4 - 24.1%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
+4 252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 258-304 (60.5 - 71.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Gastrodon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 212-252 (75.4 - 89.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

These are the calcs against Tapu Koko

+2 4 Atk Ferrothorn Gyro Ball (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 352-415 (125.2 - 147.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 4 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 282-333 (100.3 - 118.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 4 Atk Ferrothorn Gyro Ball (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko through Reflect: 176-207 (51.1 - 60.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 4 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko through Reflect: 141-166 (40.9 - 48.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Ferrothorn needs Trick Room support to OHKO Tapu Koko before it Pivots with Volt Switch or U-Turn.

Also it needs a Defoger, Brick Break or Psychic Fangs to get rid of Reflect / Aurora Veil

Alolan Marowak can counter Tapu Koko thanks to Lightning Rod granting Immunity to Volt Switch. However, Tapu Koko can still switch with U-Turn. Like with Ferrothorn, it needs Trick Room to OHKO Tapu Koko before it Pivots.

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak-Alola Poltergeist vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 325-384 (115.6 - 136.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Alolan Marowak can block Tapu Koko Electric STAB moves thanks to Lightning Rod, Also it resists Dazzling Gleam. However, Tapu Koko can still switch with U-Turn. the only thing that can Hurt Marowak-Alola is Brave Bird, Acrobatics and a rare Assurance.

Sword Dance is used to take advantage of taking out Dual Screens sets, Trick Room Support allows to OHKO Tapu Koko before it pivots out with U-Turn.

Rarely a Thief Tapu Koko can steal Marowak-Alola Thick Club, decreasing the OHKO chance. Also Iron Defense can make Tapu Koko survive Longer against Marowak.

Stored Power can also OHKO Marowak-Alola, this combines Calm Mind and Iron Defense altogether in a single Tapu Koko set.

+2 252 SpA Tapu Koko Stored Power (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Marowak-Alola: 294-347 (90.7 - 107%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
