Welcome to the twelfth iteration of SPL, SPL XII. In this tournament, 10 teams containing the most bestest players on Smogon duke it out every week, attempting to gather as many wins as they can to reach playoffs. Many of them will fail, while some will bloom. Whatever the case, the matches will be exciting, so without further ado, here are tournament rules and the matchups!

SS OU: FlamingVictini vs BK
i think FV is the best player in the SS pool, and beyond that, FV is probably my favorite player period. he plays very consistently while also changing up his style when appropriate, making him a difficult opponent to pin down. beyond that, what's most exciting is the way he pushes the boundaries on any tier he touches. he's always innovating and thinking outside the box, usually resulting in some super unique teams on his end. pitting an innovative player like FV against an electric wildcard like BK makes for a very interesting game. BK has a really high ceiling, but he does have some consistency issues, like in his game vs talah last snake. still, he's a great player, and he can pilot anything really well. it'll be interesting to see how FV prepares for a player like this, but nonetheless i think he has this one.

ORAS OU: Sjneider vs Santu
two of the great modern ORAS players. i would say these are two really similar players: both are very flexible; they are capable of playing any tier with any team at a fairly high level. neider saw great success in ORAS last year with the patented ABR support, whereas santu broke out on the bigs with... sabella support? i'm not to sure. not to diminish the skill of these two players, but the support they have had has seemingly been somewhat of factor in their team tournament success. what's interesting about this tournament, however, is that both don't really have a clear cut person on their team that is feeding them ORAS builds. i think santu has adjusted to this better than neider, as his builds have looked a lot more well put together and forward thinking. i didn't like either of neider's teams that much, especially his week 1 team. still, these are two great players, and they're both seemingly getting by without being mere "pilot" slots. great to see.

DPP OU: Malekith vs Snøfall
going with a bit of an upset here. kith is really sick at DPP, and it's shown in his first two games. snofall is one of those guys i always heard about in these unofficial tours, so it's cool to see someone like that start to see some success in SPL. i don't know them at all, but i have a feeling they will be more aggressive with prep than malekith. both have also played well in the thinking gen, so it really comes down to that for me. really i've just enjoyed watching both these guys play, and i like rooting for the underdog so yea..

ADV OU: Gilbert arenas vs McMeghan
this one's super hype lmao. marcop got ranked criminally low in the PRs, and i think he wants to prove to everyone that he's top 3 at least. unfortunately for him, mcmeghan is one of the goats, and he's been playing so damn well lately. definitely living up to that pricetag. still, marcop is a real student of the tier: he knows ADV inside and out, and he's more than willing to bring something ridiculous that might just give him the edge. maybe a surprise appearance by a vileplume or some shit could be what seals the game for him vs one of the goats. or maybe it just acts as a flashy sack in an exciting and well matched game.

RBY OU: spies vs Tiba
don't really care about RBY but seeing tiba play has been a blast. spies killing it has been wild too, so it'll be funny to see if tiba can pull a win out against him while complaining the whole time. giving tiba the edge because i think he's played a much stronger selection of players than spies + has some more "recent" success with the tier.
