i didn't see who's got whose support on what team so this is prolly like predictions for an individual tour. also, i have 0 knowledge about some of them which doesn't translate to "who the fuck are you, fucking random?" so don't come at me with pitchforks

Hamhamhamham vs FLCL - flcl prolly hasn't looked at ubers in a long time, but he showed in 2017 he's more than capable of performing in the tier. while the meta has changed drastically, him being in this slot would suggest he's not all that unfamiliar with it. so with the "tier familiarity" gap closed, it's playing ability and team choices and flcl is a clear pick for me in that regard

Eternal Spirit vs ayevon - no idea about eternal's ubers prowess, while ayevon did play in the 3-man team tour and i remember he bagged wins more often than not(not gonna go check), so just that's the basis for my prediction here

Garay oak vs Holy Ghost - idt garay makes as many pointless aggro plays as he used to, and has matured a lot to keep the game in his control. holy ghost had a forgettable year after finishing third in the first ssnl, while garay finished the same in the forgettable ubers open along with 6th place in the second ssnl. that, and me being of the belief that garay is the better player of the two, is enough for making this prediction

Exiline vs GarbodorIsHot - ok here's the "idk who" situation and im NOT dissing the man. asking around and watching the 4 public replays i could find on his alt, all i got to know was that this:
  • mainly an ag player who didn't even sign up for ag
  • didn't play a single ubers circuit tour last year
  • 93 gxe with 97-24 record, but the replays show a different picture(more on this later)
  • has a weird record of 46 gxe with 1727-1096 record so very likely a dedicated memer(more on this later)
  • the 4 ubers replays show him using non-meme teams, thus making me confused about the ag record(prolly doesn't matter to ubers tho)
  • however, the 4 replays do show that this man does not believe in using his checks half the time, and will throw away mons asap
all of that, combined with exiline's new shiny ass ribbon, are all the factors and there's no doubt in my mind. this is not meant to disrespect the other guy in any way, cos everything i pointed out about is completely objective and you can see for yourself, and all the basis i could possibly have. still, this tour could be his launchpad and that could only mean well for the tier itself

Chill Shadow vs Sharow-san - sharow had a good showing in ssd, and cs might just be too distracted with spl to perform on the level that he showed throughout the last circuit. that's all that makes the difference imo in what's the highlight game for me. expecting to see a real good game

Melle2402 vs Alkione - i never got the feeling that melloat really got into usm at all, and that might end up making all the difference as a young and hungry and motivated alkione, who knows nothing but usm, looking to prove himself will tryhard all he can to make a name for self this tour

Terracotta vs rozes - terra is such an on and off player, and he has been off for over half a year now that i can't really tell if he's already gone past his prime and doesn't care? rozes on the other hand is much more consistent with arguably better team choices as well

skysolo14 vs EternalSnowman - this game will be decided by who brings the more wack team, and i've got slightly more belief in solo in that regard than esm

Smogon Exhibition Week 2 Ubers :

Hamhamhamham vs Garay Oak : no one can defeat Garay in ubers, i trust him.

Eternal Spirit vs Exiline : everyone can defeat Exiline in ubers, but i trust him.

Chill Shadow vs FLCL : he won a ssnl.

Melle2402 vs ayevon : Predicting has never been so easy.

skysolo14 vs Holy Ghost : impressive vs Garay, but got lucked.

Terracotta vs GarbodorIsHot : Idk who's is terra's opponent, but he won vs Exiline, take care.

Please suspect DM.

Power Rankings

Potentially slightly biased estimated team power rankings. These are based on the overall team support aswell as the actual players. I spoke to Mysterious M and Holy Break about this and we've (somewhat) agreed on a rough power ranking.

1: Mauville City Magnets. (Exiline + Garay Oak).
This was a unanimous decision among the 3 of us. Both of these players are known ubers players, both with previous tour success, and Exiline holding the ubers ribbon as of now. Their knowledge and skill combined can easily come up with strong teams each week and are in comfortable shoes when playing in the tier. These things combined placing them at the top of the PR.

2: Cinnabar Firedogs. (Alkione + Sharow-San + Catalystic + SiTum)
Again a unanimous decision, all of the listed players are solid at ubers and aswell as having enough knowledge to help put together some decent teams they have Mysterious M as a captain who can provide good building support. They can rotate players weekly leaving them with a solid ubers core in any given week.

3: Dragon's Den Drakes. (Chill Shadow + Melle2402)
Not much to say here Chill Shadow and Melle are both very solid ubers players and they will have good team support from Cynara as long as shes not too busy jerking in spl.

4: Striaton City Snackers. (Terracotta Zygod + Skysolo14)
More controversial placings now but I think they're both solid players and terracotta is a skilled builder which will prove to be strong throughout the tour.

5: Alolan Island Hoppers. (Holy Ghost + Skarpherim + Cam + Jase The World + MJ)
Since this is my team I've put us in the middle of where MM and Holy Break placed us. All of us play ubers but I'd say the only one of us with actual tour success to some degree is Holy Ghost and Jase to a lesser degree. I think the team can produce nice ubers teams and use them efficiently.

6: Relic Castle Fossils. (Byronthewellwell + HamHamHamHam)
Both are definitely solid players and it can be argued that they should be higher, however building is a question mark. If they can produce good teams there should be no trouble playing them to a high level.

7: Victory Road Elites. (Eternal Snowman + Rozes + Got Cookies + other options)
There are a lot of options to play ubers in this team but I'd say only one consistent builder in ESM, however rozes is a very skilled player and could easily bring some building to the table aswell. Noone on their team stands out as a really good player to me aswell.

8: Lake Valor Guardians. (FLCL + Ayevon + Teal6(?))
Again another strong team playerwise with FLCL but this team has no building support that I could pick out meaning they will either have to use recycled team or build without support which is the main reason that they have ranked so lowly.

This is not an accurate measure of what to expect in the tour and its just for fun but I'd be interested to see what changes people would make to the post if you're interested in commenting on it.

Hamhamhamham vs Garay Oak - just better momentum even tho last win had a few hiccups

Eternal Spirit vs Exiline - exiline really resorted to webs last time, and im convinced he's adopted the "i wasn't trying/this tier trash" attitude so much up his ass that he'll get smacked hard

Chill Shadow vs FLCL - hl of the week, cs is more familiar with the intricacies of the tier and team compositions atm so (very) slight edge there

Melle 2402 vs ayevon - assuming last week's team choice has taught melle something, he should something less nonsensical this time and do well

skysolo14 vs Holy Ghost - i love solo but his last week game was far from showing him as a top up-and-comer, which i believe him to be. maybe he still has some more way to go, while hg has been here for a good while and should be in command

Terracotta vs GarbodorIsHot - despite using horrendous stall in 1 ssnl game, terra had a decent showing marred by bad luck, so unless he goes too hard on the crazy part, he should be fine

rozes vs Alkione - just like solo, alkione's win wasn't so convincing last week either, and i guess the nerves get to him now and then, while rozes has played plenty in team tours and should be fine

GotCookies vs Sharow-san - obaasan played real well last week, his marsh should grab another win this time

Midseason will be on its way so please wish good luck to every new players joining the exhibition!

gonna go through my replays and give my mindset on them

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ubers-847981134 vs esm

T1 i led off with my Primal Groudon because it had a pretty mu vs the majority of his mons as he leads off with Waterceus, i switch out and go into my fairy-ceus because i didn't want my pdon to get dmged t1. I click judgement as he goes into metagross and i'm free to click will-o-wisp the next turn as I am faster then this metagross, t4 i recover off the mash damage as he goes into his xerneas. he clicks toxic with his scarf xern as i judgement and do half to it. I'm then going to double out into my Gira-O predicting a pdon double but he goes meta gross instead. Here, I click Twave over defog which was a misplay on my part as he goes yveltal. I'm forced to switch out into my fairyceus as he turns out and goes into his pdon which I believe he should have went into his naganadel and pressured my team from there. I'm going to click toxic with my mon on the pdon as he edges predicting my ho-oh I'm assuming. He makes a good double into his naga now on my gira-o and from there I made some pivots with fairyceus and scarf ho-oh expertly yk yk. I defog because I need them off for ho-oh to come in at a later point as he goes meta. I switch into my marsh as he doubles out into his waterceus. I bulk up twice as he goes for rocks plus judgement. Here, I pussy out of going for a 3rd Bulk up as i click my zmove on the meta sack, another misplay on my part. He goes into his pdon and tanks the CC and kills me in return. I got into my gira-o and defog as he goes into his xern. I go into fairyceus as a sack but he goes for aromatherapy. I double into my ho-oh on the waterceus and click toxic as he gets the rocks back up. I sack my fairyceus to the rocks as he doubles into naga. I go back into my scarf ho-oh on the naga and click brave bird as he stays in and np I believe thinking I would defog but nah naga's way to big of a threat. He then keeps the naga and sacks pdon. He goes yveltal and I fear sucker and switch out into my pdon which works. He then pulses my pdon as I overheat and kill him. He goes xern next as i opp to sack my ho-oh. I go Mega Luke and just bp the xern. He then goes waterceus as I got pdon on a judgement/wisp scout but he epowers and knocks me so my only play now is sd and hope he's slower or he switches as he does switch into naga and I kill it the next turn with bp so now it comes to whether my luke can outspend or tank epower as Epower leaves me down to 4% and I kill with CC in return and that will be game.

I'm just gonna go through the next 4 replays quick... LMAO basically this game, I use a Deo-a which isn't a mon you usually see in the metagame but it ended up putting in work and kill like 5 mons in return.

This game I used some cool mons and sets such as sd ghostceus and CroXern lmao and they ended up putting in work when the ghostceus is able to get rid of the mega gar to give Xern leeway to set up on his revealed darkceus. I also had pursuit on deo-a to be able to trap mega gar to free ghostceus and Xern. Just watch

This team was revolved around mmy, which is another underrated mon in ubers as well 5 mons that support it. The first few turns were just me weaken his mons for mmy but it actually never got a chance to come out as this game was Sd Pdon's game as it ran havoc through his team. I of course got bailed by dodging his toxic from his gira which allowed to knock out his whole team.

This game, I brought the team from week 1 as it has been personally my favorite team to use so far in 2019. I vsed webs this week but thankfully this team is pretty good vs it as you'll see fairyceus with double status being able to wisp the marsh and toxic the opposing fairyceus. I unfortunately missed a wisp on necro which got a bit threatening but thankfully scarf ho-oh was able to get 70% off on the necro putting in range of a marsh sneak. He goes Ray after he sacks his own marsh. I switch out into my fairyceus as he sd's. The reason I switched was because if I sacked marsh I could lose to ray plus ultra necrozma as BP from MLuke does not Ohko from 30% on necro. thankfully, I break the sash on ray as that's going to be game because I sweep with Shadow sneak from marsh.

Still waiting for an answer.

I've honestly being trying to find some way to describe this abomination I was forced to have on my screen for 72 whole turns. 72 turns. This mon only has 80 PP total. The entire replay was 99 turns. 72.73% of this battle was spent looking at this ball of iron and vines not have a single non status move. As Steelskitty would say, "nice prep"
But then again, what do I know? I didn't even get drafted so I'm clearly an inferior player.

Sorry for late update on the last two weeks of the exhibition.

Would anyone mind giving their insights about the increased usage of Arceus-Fairy during Week 5 and 6? And why would no one other than Alkione would elect to use Gothitelle to capitalize on this?

Cynara

Banned deucer.
Gothitelle is awful in common matchups (bulky offense, HO etc), I would not call that a capitalizing pick at all, sabotaging your matchup vs these is annoying. Mega Gengar exists for trapping utility, while being the best revenge killer so it has an alright matchup vs offenses too.

The Arceus-Fairy usage surge is unwarranted, It's a pokemon with so many demands in the teambuilder to support it and a few of these teams have been arguably suboptimal where players are opting to specifically prepare for common threats their opponent has used, there isnt much more to say on this. Only a small handful of good Arceus-Fairy builds out there exist such as Mega Gengar / Primal Kyogre / Primal Groudon / Giratina-O / Arceus-Fairy / Necrozma-DM being one.

Whats scary is the sets being used too, Calm Mind is by far the best way to get mileage of Arceus-Fairy, it has a good offensive typing which is particularly good at late game win conditioning, but this has seen no usage and I feel this is seriously being overlooked. Compared to the other sets that are being used such as the awful dual status and Stealth Rock where it generally doesn't do much in a game at all and invites Mega Gengar in too easily, Stealth Rock is not worth freeing the Groudon slot for as offensive rocks Groudon actually almost always leads to strong teambuilds, not completely boned by Mega Gengar and gives you much more offensive pressure etc. If you are going to use a support set, Judgment / Earth Power / Recover/ Thunder Wave is good to consider, it actually allows Arceus-Fairy to overcome most of it's main issues and punish common switchins excluding Ferrothorn and Ho-Oh which you let in for free regardless.

I would like this thread stay open for final thoughts, as I believe a few users would like to post something about this tournament as a whole...

Tbh I'm surprised about Giratina-o's usage. His double type, levitate and his moveset make him a solid pdon check, and a pretty good defog user against sticky, but in truth, I think that's all he do ( he have defog, but you've a lot of better defog users, having Ceus/Ygod def in my head ). Maybe a good ekiller counter, but can't rly do a thing against the sub one. His acces to TWave can be annoying too, but again, I don't think it's enough. His atk base stat is too low to kill UNecro, even after 2 rocks damages with Shadow Sneak, Zyg looks a better Para user to me, and as I said, some mons can defog and use recover, a thing Gira can't do. Maybe I underrated him, and you guys could tell me why he's played that much, it's a real question that I ask myself.

( also, Zyg as broken as always, 60% winrate for a top5 usage :o )
