[OVERVIEW]

  • Role compression; Stealth Rock, Knock Off, Electric- and Water immunity, it checks many common Pokemon such as Flygon, Raikou, and Sharpedo.
  • Its great offensive movepool, natural bulk, typing, and Water Absorb lets it keep most of its defensive utility while pulling off offensive sets, unlike pokemon like Golurk which lacks much defensive use even if it's far stronger.
  • It can be run as an offensive SR setter to better threaten common entry hazard removers like Dhelmise and Crobat or go all-out with Choice Band.
  • Great Calm Mind Suicune answer because Water Absorb + Knock Off and Power Whip.
  • Seismitoad together with Politoed is the face of RU rain teams thanks to its immunity to Electric and access to Stealth Rock. Under the pouring rainfall, Swift Swim Seismitoad circumvents its average Speed and becomes a major threat to any team.
  • However, due to a lack of reliable recovery, its natural bulk can only take Seismitoad so far and its middling Speed tier leaves it open to faster wallbreaker such as Nidoqueen, Xurkitree, and Heracross.
  • Seismitoad also possesses a crippling 4x weakness to Grass, which leaves it for easy picking by the many Grass-types in the tier and Pokemon like Xurkitree and Chandelure.

  • Paragraph 1
  • Describe what the moves on the set do, as well as alternative options. Describe other aspects of the set such as the EVs and nature/item. Describe some teammates that would be a good idea to pair with this Pokemon to help it fulfil its role. (this section can be broken up into multiple paragraphs if needed)

[SET]
name: Offensive Stealth Rock
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Power Whip
move 4: Knock Off / Ice Punch
item: Leftovers
ability: Water Absorb
nature: Adamant
evs: 112 HP / 252 Atk / 144 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Power Whip 2HKOes some bulky waters like Milotic and Jellicent, 3HKOes defensive CM Suicune, and OHKOes Gastrodon and opposing Seismitoad. It also 2HKOes Rhyperior, which EQ fails to do.
  • Knock Off hits Bronzong and removes valuable items such as HDB from its switch-ins such as Crobat, Noivern, and Golisopod.
  • Ice Punch OHKOes Noivern and Flygon and forces switch-ins such as Crobat and Celebi to immediately heal after switching in, limiting how much progress they can make against toad.
  • the water immunity from water absorb is crucial for dealing with bulky waters, as it removes the threat of a Scald burn. water absorb and power whip are what makes seismitoad such an excellent answer to calm mind suicune.
  • with 144 speed evs, seismitoad outspeed up to neutral nature base 60s like incineroar and bewear. rest in hp to better check pokemon like calm mind raikou, sharpedo, and incineroar.

[SET]
name: Rain Sweeper
move 1: Liquidation
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Power Whip
move 4: Ice Punch / Stealth Rock / Knock Off
item: Life Orb
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
  • Under rain, Seismitoad outspeeds the entire unboosted metagame and even the fastest of the tier's scarfers in Flygon.
  • Power Whip 2HKOes every bulky Water-type in the tier and OHKO Water immune Pokemon such as Gastrodon and opposing Seismitoad, paving the way for its rain teammates to fire off their rain-boosted Water-type STAB uncontested.
  • Ice Punch completes its coverage. OHKOes Noivern and 2HKOes Grass-types such as Celebi, Dhelmise, and Rotom-C. However, Seismitoad has favorable odds to 2HKO Noivern in rain with Liquidation so other moves can fill its slot.
  • Stealth Rock supports the team, toad is by far the easiest stealth rock setter to fit on rain teams but makes Seismitoad unable to beat Celebi which can be a major threat to rain teams.
  • Knock Off still 2HKOes Celebi and Dhelmise, but also removes HDB from Golisopod, making it far easier for Seismitoad to eventually overwhelm it. It can also remove valuable items from other pokemon to soften them up for its teammates to break through.

  • Politoed rain setter.
  • Klefki secondary and provides spikes to guarantee 2hkoes like on plume after 1 layer of spikes. It also checks threats to rain teams such as Choice Scarf Gardevoir and Mimikyu, it can even slow the former down with Thunder Wave so Seismitoad can outspeed even if it has traced swift swim.
  • Other swift swim users like Kingdra, Ludicolo, Drednaw, and Kabutops can either pick up where Seismitoad left off or run through the opposition so Seismitoad can clean up late-game. Seismitoad and Kingdra on their own make for a devastating offensive core, however, a third Swift Swim sweeper can be added to patch up some weaknesses or pile on the offense.
  • Ludicolo > waters. Drednaw and Kabutops provide a flying resist. drednaw can wallbreak and weaken physically defensive pokemon for Sesitmitoad, and it also offensively checks Celebi with Megahorn. Kabutops, on the other hand, can either provide Rapid Spin support or priority in Aqua Jet. the latter offers the team with a rain sweeper that Gardevoir can't revenge kill and a potential wincon even after the rain has run out.
  • NP Torn great wallbreaker for rain and can check Grass-types and Golisopod for Seismitoad. Torn can also take more supportive roles with Knock Off and U-turn, letting Seismitoad in against Steel-types such as Registeel trying to cover Tornadus. It can even act as a third rain setter thanks to Prankster or set Tailwind.
  • Toxicroak checks bulky Water-types like Milotic and Suicune. Switches into Golisopod and Vileplume for Seismitoad. Appreciates Seismitoad Power Whip> Gastrodon and opposing Seismitoad.

[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Power Whip
move 3: Knock Off / Ice Punch
move 4: Liquidation / Ice Punch
item: Choice Band
ability: Water Absorb
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Power Whip 2HKOes even the bulkiest Water-type in Suicune.
  • Knock Off removes invaluable items like Heavy-Duty Boots from its typical switch-ins such as Golisopod and Noivern. What's more, Knock Off hits Celebi hard on the switch as well as 2HKO Dhelmise.
  • Liquidation OHKOes Rhyperior and hits most of the tier for at least neutral damage, making it a generally safe move to lock into.
  • Ice Punch OHKOes Noivern and deals heavy damage to Grass- and Flying-types such as Celebi, Crobat, and Togekiss.
  • Water Absorb: avoids Scald, provides more switch-in opportunities and lets Seismitoad check Suicune.
  • A Jolly nature is to outrun Tsareena.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • special set on rain: hydro / ep / grass knot / sludge wave. less prone to Scald but redundant with Kingdra. worse against Milotic, Umbreon, and Guzzlord.
  • Protect on defensive, more leftovers recovery and scouts Choice-locked mons. Scald preferred STAB. Have to give up utility, which may not be worth it.
  • Rindo on offensive with 44 HP EVs moved to SpD, checks xurkitree and heliolisk even after stealth rock but toad needs to be basically at full to check xurkitree and once it has KOed Xurkitree it's left at very low HP.
  • substitute: sub + 3 attacks, sub + PuP, sub + toxic.
  • choice scarf, good coverage, can get surprise KOs on pokemon like Noivern but weak when not hitting for SE damage and slower than every common scarfer.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types and Grass-type coverage**: Common Grass-types such as Celebi, Roserade, Dhelmise, Vileplume, and Rotom-C can switch into a resisted attack and threaten to OHKO Seismitoad. Dhelmise, Tsareena, and Rotom-C can even remove Stealth Rock set by Seismitoad with either Rapid Spin or Defog. Pokemon such as Xurkitree, Chandelure, and Heliolisk commonly carry Grass-type coverage to KO Seismitoad.

**Powerful wallbreakers**:

**Physically defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Reuniclus, Guzzlord, and Galarian Weezing possess enough physical bulk to take on offensive Seismitoad sets, even in rain. Guzzlord can Knock Off its boosting item and stall rain turns with Protect, and Galarian Weezing renders it harmless with Will-O-Wisp. However, neither is a reliable answer in the long term due, as both don't have any reliable form of recovery.

**Residual damage**: Because Seismitoad lacks any reliable way to recover back residual damage from Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic, it is much more quickly put into the range of the Pokemon it otherwise checks, like Flygon, Sharpedo, and Incineroar.
