Project RU Create-a-Core! [Closed until Gen 8]

Araquanid @ Splash Plate
Ability: Water Bubble
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sticky Web
- Liquidation
- Magic Coat
- Mirror Coat / Leech Life
Vanilluxe and Araquanid complement each other well imo. Ice cream greatly enjoys Sticky Web being set to help offset its lackluster speed tier, often allowing it to outright sweep, while Araquanid can switch in directly on most Fire-, Steel-, or Fighting-types that may give Vanilluxe trouble and hit back hard with Liquidation.

Do note though that both mon are weak to Rock, but that can easily be dealt with by another team member and overall Vanilluxe+Araquanid is a great core that I have had some success with and would encourage others to give it a try.

Voting phase for Vanilluxe cores has begun!

Since it offers almost nothing defensively, Vanilluxe isn't a Pokemon you can specifically cater much to if you want to avoid glaring composition flaws. That said...

Metagross @ Choice Band
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit

Choice Band Metagross threatens major damage to Registeel and Pursuit traps Bronzong; since Bronzong is much less hindered by Vanilluxe's Taunt than Registeel, having a surefire way to eliminate it is most valuable. Pursuit Escavalier works similarly and has Overcoat at the expense of nonexistent Speed, which might be tricky to accommodate on a team already trying to incorporate an Ice-type.

also naive>hasty imo, less damage from priority

Houndoom @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Taunt

Houndoom can threaten most things that threaten the ice cream cone, such as Ninetales or Arcanine. Houndoom appreciates Vanilluxes' taunt, allowing it to settup for free without fear of status. Houndoom also breaks through Registeel, Bronzong, and other steel types that the ice cream struggles with, and appreciates Vanilluxe having Freeze Dry to smack fatter waters, weakening them for Houndoom to clean.

Rhyperior @ Choice Band
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Megahorn
- Ice Punch

a rather overlooked wallbreaker, rhyperior can punch holes in teams that have ground resists which are easily chipped such as virizion and golisopod. together with vanilluxe, they take advantage of that weakening the enemy team through firing powerful blizzards and devastating earthquakes. furthermore, rhyperior provides defensive utility with its rock and fire resistances, which vanilluxe appreciates, and also its defense stat, that allows it to survive one move from the likes of metagross and toxicroak and fire back.

Araquanid @ Splash Plate
Ability: Water Bubble
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sticky Web
- Liquidation
- Magic Coat
- Mirror Coat / Leech Life

My vote will go to Cryo!

Congratulations to CryoGyro winning with 1 vote each meaning we both get in the HoF. I'm going to extend the next cycle of Create-a-Core to see if it gets off the ground. Next Create-a-Core will be around...

Toxicroak @ Life Orb
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Gunk Shot
- Drain Punch
- Sucker Punch

Shaymin @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seed Flare
- Healing Wish
- Psychic
- Earth Power

Shaymin beats the Ground-types that this Toxicroak set struggles with, and in addition, it provides Healing Wish support so that Toxicroak can have multiple chances at sweeping. Also, scarf Shaymin outspeeds the entire unboosted metagame, which assures it can outspeed and revenge kill the threats Toxicroak can't, even with Sucker Punch (Sucker Punch can only go so far, not to mention it got nerfed in this generation).

slowbro.gif

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Psyshock
- Slack Off

Toxicroak (and Shaymin as well) need a Water-type to cover their Fire weaknesses, and I preferred a bulky Water-type because that could offset Toxicroak's bulk problems. Scald is obviously for damaging Fire-types, which is why I went with Slowbro over Mega Blastoise (running Water coverage on Mega Blastoise limits its coverage of the tier), and Ice Beam hits Flying-types, which both Shaymin and Toxicroak are weak to. Slowbro and Toxicroak form a nice core with Toxicroak's Fighting typing covering Slowbro's Dark weakness and Slowbro's Psychic typing helping switch into opposing Psychic-types for Toxicroak. Also Slowbro's Water typing allows it to beat Ground-types.

These 3 Pokemon form a pretty potent core. Metagross sets sup Stealth Rock and cripples Pokemon like Slowbro, and other fat shit while also providing a stellar Gardevoir check for Goodra, and Toxicroak. Metagross also provides a solid Ice resist which helps goodra out even more. Toxicroak is a phenomenal check to bulky Water-types like Blastoise, which Metagross despises and has arguably the worst MU against it. Toxicroak also takes on Pokemon like Virizion and Barbaracle for this core, the aforementioned Barbaracle absolutely eviscerating the other two. Being the amazing balance breaker that it is Toxicroak also takes on passive Pokemon like Registeel due to being immune to toxic, helping Goodra wallbreak to the best of its ability. Goodra is an amazing wallbreaker and a somewhat decent Special Defensive sponge, being able to handle Pokemon that give this core issues like Ninetales, Blastoise, Metagross, and Salazzle to an extent, KOing all of them with Draco Meteor.

Ground types are honestly the biggest issue here, Zygarde can run a fucking train if you don't have an appropriate check on the team such as Tangela, Virizion, Donphan, and Shaymin.

Scarf Tyrantrum can be a problem, but this can be easily fixed if Toxicroak is switched to Scarf, or you have an appropriate check like Donphan.

Opposing Goodra can be really scary if they predict properly.

Special thanks to Loom for submitting so this cycle could end :psynervous:
But my vote for this will go to masterball200 on this cycle because as much as I hate Scarf Shaymin it does work well with Toxicroak.
