[OVERVIEW]

Rotom-W has an incredible typing that when paired with Levitate, only makes it weak to Grass-type attacks. It's one of the best users of Volt Switch in the game, and it has plenty of versatility to use it in different ways, such as on defensive sets, offensive sets, Choice Specs sets, and Choice Scarf sets. However, Rotom-W's mediocre stats force it to focus on either being offensive or defensive, never being able to be both at the same time.

Below are some sample sets. These sets are likely to be standard, but they will be expanded upon and updated as the metagame progresses.

[SET]
name: Bulky
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Volt Switch
move 3: Will-O-Wisp
move 4: Thunderbolt
item: Sitrus Berry / Wiki Berry / Waterium Z
ability: Levitate
nature: Bold / Modest
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]

* Hydro Pump is Rotom-W's main STAB, while Volt Switch allows it to escape the clutches of its foes, especially since most Ground-types don't want to risk getting hit by Hydro Pump.

* Will-O-Wisp is great for crippling physical attackers such as Garchomp and Mega Salamence.

* Thunderbolt is a good Electric-type attack for when you don't want to switch out.

* With the given EV spread, a Sitrus Berry, and a Bolt Nature, Rotom-W has an easier time against physical attackers such as Mega Salamence and Mamoswine. A Wiki Berry is a riskier alternative, giving Rotom-W 50% recovery at 25% health.

* A more offensive spread is feasible, dealing much more damage with Hydro Pump and Volt Switch. You can use this with Waterium-Z to always hit Hydro Pump at least once. Z-Hydro Pump even has a 56% chance of OHKOing Garchomp. Note that going the more offensive route gives Mega Salamence a good chance of 2HKOing Rotom-W with a boosted Double-Edge.

* Don't be too reckless with Rotom-W switch-ins, as even defensive variants take a serious amount of damage from boosted physical attackers such as Garchomp. Switch into threats that can't deal much damage to it such as Mamoswine and Celesteela.

* You'll need a check to Grass-types such as Ferrothorn, Mega Venusaur, and Tapu Bulu, who are all big threats to Rotom-W. While less common, special attacking Dragon-types such as Hydreigon and Latias also have little to fear from Rotom-W.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Volt Switch
move 3: Trick
move 4: Hidden Power Ice / Thunderbolt
item: Choice Specs
ability: Levitate
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* With a Choice Specs, Hydro Pump deals much more damage than usual, OHKOing Tapu Koko and 2HKOing Aegislash, Mega Charizard X, and even Porygon2 90% of the time.

* Volt Switch is important for maintaining momentum against the opponent's switch ins.

* Trick allows Rotom-W to cripple defensive Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Chansey.

* Hidden Power Ice is Rotom-W's only way of 2HKOing Tapu Bulu, while Thunderbolt is useful if you want to use an Electric-type attack without switching out, and it OHKOs physically defensive Celesteela unlike Volt Switch.

* The given EV spread and Nature maximize Rotom-W's power and bulk, but a Timid nature with 220 Speed EVs to outspeed Jolly Mega Gyarados before it boosts.

* Grass-types are a huge problem for Rotom-W, such as Ferrothorn, Mega Venusuar, and Tapu Bulu, so make sure to prepare for these threats.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Hydro Pump
move 3: Trick
move 4: Hidden Power Ice / Will-O-Wisp / Thunderbolt
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Volt Switch works well with Choice Scarf, often letting Rotom-W throw out a attack and switching out without getting hit.

* Hydro Pump is the standard STAB attack that deals much more damage than Volt Switch.

* Trick gives Rotom-W a weapon against bulky Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu and Ferrothorn.

* Hidden Power Ice deals serious damage to Garchomp and Mega Salamence, but Will-O-Wisp works great against physical attackers once Choice Scarf has been Tricked. Thunderbolt lets Rotom-W stay in, which is helpful against the likes of Celesteela and revenge killing weakened Mega Charizard Y.

* A Timid nature ensures Choice Scarf Rotom-W outspeeds Pheromosa and a Mega Gyarados that has used Dragon Dance once.

* Grass-types are a huge problem, especially Tapu Bulu, whom Rotom-W can no longer 2HKO. Mega Venusaur is an even bigger problem since its immune to Trick. All teams that use Rotom-W must find ways to check them.

Pretty much nothing else to add, when the time comes and there is an Other Options section, we can probably say that Toxic is more desirable than before as an alternative due to the nerf to burn damage in gen7.
