[OVERVIEW]
Registeel serves the purpose of a bulky ChestoRest + Double Dance sweeper, as its bulk, combined with its amazing Steel typing, gives it the edge in a multitude of matchups. It is able to set up on common UU staples such as Nihilego, Chansey, and Scizor and bait offensive threats that hit it super effectively, such as Zygarde-10%, Conkeldurr, and pivot Thundurus-T, using them as setup fodder to start a sweep. Because of its ability to boost its physical and special bulk, Registeel has multiple opportunities to set up and can potentially steamroll teams lacking a Ghost-type, Taunt, or certain sweepers that don't take much from Body Press. It also has a good amount of PP on Iron Defense, Amnesia, and Rest combined, so it is able to stall out defensive Pokemon like Slowking and Amoonguss. Registeel is also a solid defensive Stealth Rock setter for many teams, checking various offensive threats, including Nihilego, Zarude, and Starmie. It also has access to status in Thunder Wave and Toxic, which makes it less passive against offensive teams. However, while Registeel's defensive profile is phenomenal, its passivity leads to inviting common wallbreakers and setup sweepers in, like Keldeo and Nidoking. It also faces stiff competition as a Steel-type Stealth Rock setter from the likes of Excadrill and Cobalion, both of which have an actual offensive presence. Registeel faces competition as a defensive Steel-type from Skarmory and Scizor; both have reliable recovery and Skarmory can check Pokemon like Gyarados and Diggersby. Registeel also greatly fears Knock Off because of how reliant it is on its item to stay healthy throughout a game. It's also often forced to use Rest between boosting, which gives wallbreakers like Keldeo and Nidoking chances to fish for critical hits to KO it through its boosts.

[SET]
name: Demon Registeel (Double Dance)
move 1: Amnesia
move 2: Iron Defense
move 3: Rest
move 4: Body Press
item: Chesto Berry
ability: Clear Body
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Maximum Defense investment with a Bold nature is needed to fully strengthen Body Press and increase its damage output, allowing Registeel to more freely set up on Azumarill, Zygarde-10%, and Excadrill. Iron Defense, in particular, makes Body Press's power skyrocket to exceptional levels. At +6, Registeel becomes incredibly powerful and is able to 2HKO even physically defensive Slowking with a favorable damage roll or minor chip damage. With Amnesia and Iron Defense, it is able to set up on multiple Pokemon, including Hippowdon, Salamence, and Tangrowth. This gives Registeel room to boost its unboosted stat as well. After a single Iron Defense, for example, Conkeldurr cannot 2HKO Registeel. Amnesia leaves Pokemon that would otherwise counter Registeel such as Moltres and Nidoking unable to 2HKO it, forcing them to fish for a critical hit in order to KO. Rest, along with Chesto Berry, allows Registeel to rid itself of status that would otherwise get in the way of a sweep. Rest also gives Registeel longevity to last throughout a game and stay healthy versus the likes of Excadrill, Scizor, and Cobalion.

Registeel fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that provide it many opportunities to boost and sweep. Ghost-types are a massive problem for Registeel, as they are immune to Body Press and are usually able to power through it, so Hydreigon is a valuable teammate that can shut them down. Salamence and Slowking can check offensive Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Conkeldurr for Registeel. Registeel appreciates Knock Off absorbers like Amoonguss, Tapu Bulu, and Rocky Helmet Tangrowth to ensure safer setup. Tapu Bulu also provides Grassy Terrain support to give it passive recovery and weaken Earthquake from Mamoswine and Diggersby. Nihilego is a solid partner for Registeel, as it removes common Fighting-resistant Pokemon such as Hatterene and Togekiss, and provides Stealth Rock and Knock Off support that can aid in wearing down the opposition. It is also a reliable counter to Chandelure. Rotom-W threatens offensive Ground-types like Nidoking and Mamoswine, as well as Skarmory for Registeel. It can also provide valuable Defog support to clear the field of entry hazards. Calm Mind Hatterene is a good partner, due to countering Skarmory, which can KO Registeel after boosting alongside it with its own Body Press. It also prevents Skarmory from laying Spikes that would wear down Registeel a lot faster. Chansey can handle special attackers like Nidoking for Registeel while also providing Aromatherapy support to wake it up after Rest.

[SET]
name: Stealth Rock
move 1: Seismic Toss / Body Press
move 2: Toxic / Thunder Wave
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stealth Rock
item: Leftovers
ability: Clear Body
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Body Press is also an option over Seismic Toss that allows Registeel to take advantage of its high Defense stat to deal significant damage to targets such as Zarude, Hydreigon, and Excadrill. Toxic cripples switch-ins, including Slowking and Hippowdon, and puts a timer on common Defog users like Salamence and Mandibuzz. Thunder Wave is also an option that cripples faster offensive threats including Azelf, Keldeo, and Gyarados. Earthquake allows Registeel to threaten various Toxic-immune Pokemon, including Nidoqueen and Galarian Slowbro. Most importantly, it OHKOes Nihilego. Maximum Special Defense with a Careful nature allows Registeel to better check Salamence and Meteor Beam Nihilego.

Registeel fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that appreciate the solid defensive utility it provides. Checks to Fire- and Fighting-type like Salamence and Slowking pair well with Registeel, taking on threats like Keldeo and Moltres. Thundurus-T and Rotom-W threaten common entry hazard removers, such as Salamence and Mandibuzz. Tentacruel, Mandibuzz, and the aforementioned Salamence can also remove Spikes, which cut into Registeel's longevity. Bulky Grass-types, such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth, are good partners that can check Keldeo and Zygarde-10%, which otherwise threaten Registeel.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Heavy Slam is an option on Stealth Rock sets over Seismic Toss to better deal with Hatterene and Togekiss, but you sacrifice consistent damage on other targets like Scizor and Zarude.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Strong Wallbreakers**: Powerful wallbreakers like Nidoking, Chandelure, and Mamoswine can keep Registeel from setting up freely due to their attacks forcing it to use Rest. However, they can struggle to take on Registeel if it accumulates enough boosts. Chandelure, in particular, is troublesome due to its immunity to Body Press; it almost effortlessly beats Double Dance Registeel.

**Taunt and Trick**: Taunt users such as Crobat annoy both Registeel. Trick users are extremely problematic as well, namely Choice Scarf Jirachi and Rotom-W, as they cripple Registeel and make it virtually useless.

**Fighting-types and Fighting-type coverage**: Fighting-types like Keldeo and Conkeldurr can immediately threaten Registeel with big damage and force it to use Rest, leaving it exploitable. Common users of Fighting-type coverage such as Iron Defense Skarmory, Nasty Plot Thundurus-T, and Swords Dance Scizor also immediately threaten Registeel. However, all of these Pokemon must come in before Registeel boosts the correct stat, or else they lose to it.

**Fighting-Resistant Sweepers**: Setup sweepers resistant to Body Press, including Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro, Calm Mind Hatterene, Nasty Plot + Flamethrower Togekiss, and Swords Dance Tapu Bulu, force Registeel out before it is able to start sweeping.

**Quagsire**: Quagsire staves off Body Press with no issue due to its Unaware allowing it to ignore Registeel's boosts. It can come in freely and use Haze, putting a stop to any sort of sweep.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Registeel serves the purpose of a bulky ChestoRest + double dance sweeper in the UU tier, as its bulk combined with its amazing Steel-typing give it the edge in a multitude of matchups. say what it sets up on (Nihilego, chansey, etc) and how it's ability to boost its bulk on both ends means threats like zygarde-10% and salamence that hit it super effectively can become setup bait
  • Because of this, Registeel is given multiple opportunities to set up and can potentially steamroll teams lacking a strong Ghost- or Fighting-type, Taunt, or certain sweepers that don't take much from Body Press like Nasty Plot + Flamethrower Togekiss. an Aegislash, or Taunt Chandelure. reworded a bit more
  • Registeel is also a solid defensive Stealth Rock setter for most teams, as it checks various offensive threats, including Nihilego, Zarude, and Starmie. Swords Dance + Roost Scizor, and non-Focus Blast Thunderus-Therian. (SD roost wins I'm pretty sure and most thundurus have blast to cut it)
  • It also has a bevy of good utility options, such as Toxic, Thunder Wave, and most importantly Stealth Rock, along with consistent damage output in Seismic Toss. All of the aforementioned moves allow it to soften up the opposition and make it easier for its teammates to wallbreak and abuse defensive walls. (this point feels repetitive, just add on to the above point it has utility options like toxic or thunder wave to spread status and limit its passivity)
  • However, while Registeel's defensive profile is phenomenal, it is severely lacking offensively and is passive in nature, inviting common wallbreakers and setup sweepers in like and it invites common wallbreakers and setup sweepers due to this, including Keldeo, Nidoking, and Swords Dance Aegislash Swords Dance Cobalion, Autotomize Celesteela, and Nidoking.
  • It also faces stiff competition as a Stealth Rock setter from the likes of Excadrill, Nihilego, and Swampert, among others, which all serve the same intended purpose while also providing more offensive pressure or other valuable traits. I'd say it's more of competition as a defensive steel-type, to which I'd mention scizor and skarmory instead. Keep mentions of steel rockers like Excadrill and Cobalion though
  • Registeel also fears the ever-present Knock Off, as it heavily relies on Chesto Berry to get rid of debilitating status without the drawback of Sleep, or Leftovers, which is its only source of passive recovery. Whether it's double dance or Stealth Rock, both sets losing their items ultimately result in Registeel's longevity being cut, which can be problematic in the long term.

[SET]
name: Demon Regi (Double Dance)
move 1: Amnesia
move 2: Iron Defense
move 3: Rest
move 4: Body Press
item: Chesto Berry
ability: Clear Body
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Paragraph 1
  • A double dance set with Amnesia and Iron Defense allows Registeel to bolster its bulk, while also slowly strengthening Body Press. say what it can set up on, boosting one stat to wall it so it can freely boost the other
  • Rest is used on this set, as in tandem with Chesto Berry, it allows Registeel to rid itself of burns and paralysis that would otherwise get in the way of a sweep. also add it gives registeel longevity to last throughout a game and not get worn down by excadrill and moltres
  • Body Press is the preferred attacking method, as with Iron Defense, its power skyrockets to exceptional levels, allowing it to steamroll past common bulky offense and balance structures while being nigh impossible to KO.
  • Clear Body Serves more of a purpose on the double dance set, as it prevents Registeel's Special Defense and Defense stats from being lowered, which would also make sweeping harder. give examples of this
  • Maximum Defense investment with a Bold nature is needed to fully strengthen Body Press and increase its damage output. add how it allows Registeel to better setup on azumarill and zygarde-10%
Paragraph 2
  • Registeel fits best on stall and balance teams that have means of dealing with Pokemon immune to Body Press, namely Aegislash and Chandelure. Zarude, Mandibuzz, and Hydreigon, are all appreciated in this regard.
  • Pokemon that also appreciate Registeel checking Nihilego and the like, including Moltres, Mandibuzz, Rotom-H, and Salamence. These partners, in turn, wear down many of the Ground-types in the tier that would otherwise threaten Registeel, such as Krookodile, Zygarde-10%, Hippowdon, and Excadrill.
  • Anything that can offensively threaten or deal with Aegislash is highly appreciated, as it is otherwise a massive roadblock for this set. Zarude, RestTalk Primarina, and Umbreon can all deter Aegislash in one way or another.
  • Because Registeel hates Knock Off, anything that can absorb the move is great alongside it. Rocky Helmet Tangrowth and Amoonguss in particular are amazing at this, as both don't care about getting their items being removed.
  • Nihilego is a solid partner for double dance Registeel, as it removes common Fighting-type resists such as Hatterene and Primarina, as well as spreads status for Registeel to abuse.
  • Rotom-W is also an excellent Pokemon to use alongside Registeel, as it pivots
name: Defensive Stealth Rock

move 2: Toxic / Thunder Wave
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stealth Rock
item: Leftovers
ability: Clear Body
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Paragraph 1
  • Registeel can serve the purpose of a defensive Stealth Rock setter for bulky offense teams, and is potent in said role. fluff
  • Seismic Toss is the move that it uses to provide consistent damage output, racking as it is too weak offensively to use any other moves. It allows Registeel to rack up damage against the opposition in a reliable manner.
  • Body Press is also an option over Seismic Toss that allows Registeel to abuse its high Defense stat to deal significant damage. to who? Zarude, hydreigon and excadrill should be mentioned
  • Status of some sort, such as Thunder Wave or Toxic, make Registeel a lot harder to switch into directly, as the thread of halving speed or putting a wallbreaker on a timer is extremely debilitating. Thunder Wave is usually used on slower teams that lack a direct method of speed control. Otherwise, Toxic is the preferred option. reword this point to be simpler, say toxic cripples switch-ins like slowking and hippowdon and puts a timer on defoggers like salamence and mandibuzz. For thunder wave, you can say how it slows down threats like Azelf and Keldeo and helps provide speed control
  • Earthquake allows Registeel to threaten various Toxic-immune Pokemon, including Nidoqueen, Aegislash, Excadrill, and Tentacruel Nidoking, Excadrill, Nihilego, and Tentacruel.
  • Clear Body is the preferred ability on Registeel, as Light Metal provides little to no utility and Clear Body is more useful, as situational as it may be. (useless info)
  • Maximum Special Defense with a Careful nature allows Registeel to better check Salamence and Meteor Beam Nihilego. It An EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD, with a Careful nature, allows it to maximize its bulk and better check the offensive threats it switches into, as it does not check much with full Defense investment, (RC) barring Scizor. Zarude and Crobat lacking Taunt.
Paragraph 2
  • Registeel fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that appreciate the solid defensive utility it provides, as well as the wide range of Pokemon it is able to check.
  • Pokemon like Slowking, Salamence, Primarina, or Tangrowth, that can check offensive Fire-, Fighting-, and Ground-types, are appreciated, and are all amazing partners for it because of this.
  • Partners that can threaten common hazard removal, such as Thundurus-T or Rotom-W, are all valuable partners, as they assist in keeping Stealth Rock up and also have access to Volt Switch to rack up chip damage.
  • Registeel also needs partners that can adequately remove hazards, mainly Spikes, that would otherwise cut into its longevity. Mandibuzz, Salamence, Rotom-W, and Tentacruel are all valuable hazard removal for Registeel.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Heavy Slam is an option on Stealth Rock sets over Seismic Toss to better deal with Hatterene, but you sacrifice consistent damage on other targets.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Common wallbreakers, such as Zygarde-10%, Nidoking, and Mamoswine, are all given opportunities to switch in freely due to Registeel's passive nature. However, most wallbreakers fear Toxic and are worn down fast through repeated Seismic Toss uses. this point needs to be fixed, zydog gets set up on so cut that. Mamo discourages boosting and can wear it down but gets chunked by body press. Nidoking is good keep that. add entei, it's B rank on the VR and breaks past well. Make sure these points reflect the demon set since that's the main one

**Taunt and Trick**: Users of Taunt such as Mandibuzz and Crobat , Such as Hydreigon, Mandibuzz, and Crobat, all annoy both Registeel sets. Trick users are extremely problematic as well, namely Choice Scarf Jirachi and Rotom-Wash, as they cripple Registeel and make it virtually useless.

**Ghost-types**: Most Ghost-types, such as Chandelure and Swords Dance Aegislash, are massive roadblocks for double dance Registeel as well, as they are immune to Body Press. (add how they can break past it before it sets up. also add how they can get chunked by earthquake on the stealth rock set so they can't switch-in freely unless knowing its Double Dance)

**Fighting-types and Fighting-type coverage**: Fighting-types like Keldeo and Conkeldurr can immediately threaten it with big damage and force it to Rest, leaving it exploitable. reworded this point, cobalion isn't greatest example since Body Press does SE damage and coba kinda weak to break past demon Fighting-types that can immediately threaten Registeel, including Conkeldurr, Keldeo, and Cobalion, are all threatening and usually force Registeel out. Common users of Fighting-type coverage such as Iron Defense Skarmory, Nasty Plot Thundurus-T, and Swords Dance Scizor, also immediately threaten Registeel.

**Fighting resistant sweepers**: Common Setup sweepers that are also resistant to Body Press, including Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro Slowbro-Galar, Calm Mind Hatterene, Nasty Plot + Flamethrower Togekiss, and Swords Dance Tapu Bulu, usually force out Registeel before it is able to start sweeping.

Excadrill having Rapid Spin, Cobalion with a secondary Fighting-type and access to Volt Switch, and both Skarmory and Scizor having reliable recovery are all reasons to consider them over Registeel.

  • Calm Mind Hatterene is a good partner for Registeel as well, due to countering Skarmory that would otherwise Whirlwind Registeel out. It also prevents Skarmory from laying Spikes that would wear down Registeel a lot faster.
  • Lastly, Pokemon like Chansey and Quagsire that can handle setup sweepers like Nasty Plot Thundurus-T add another example since thundy can beat both are all good partners for Registeel. Chansey in particular can provide Aromatherapy support to wake Registeel up after a Rest.

  • Registeel fits best on stall and balance teams that have means of dealing with Pokemon immune to Body Press, namely Chandelure. Mandibuzz and Hydreigon are both appreciated in this regard.
  • Pokemon that can check offensive Fighting-types, such as Keldeo and Conkeldurr, are valuable teammates. Moltres, Salamence, and Slowking are good Fighting-type checks that work well alongside Registeel.
  • Because Registeel hates Knock Off, Knock Off absorbers like Amoonguss, Tapu Bulu and Rocky Helmet Tangrowth make great partners. Tapu Bulu also provides Grassy Terrain support to give Registeel passive recovery and weaken Earthquake from Mamoswine and Excadrill.
  • Nihilego is a solid partner for Registeel, as it removes common Fighting-type resists such as Hatterene and Togekiss, as well as spreads status on Slowking for Registeel to abuse. tspikes aren't too good nor common enough to mention. Nihilego also and provides Stealth Rock support that can aid in wearing down the opposition.
  • Rotom-W is also an excellent Pokemon to use alongside Registeel, as it threatens offensive Ground-types like Nidoking and Mamoswine, and threaten Skarmory as well.
  • Umbreon is a valuable teammates that provides Wish support for Registeel, so it is forced to Rest much less often.

Paragraph 1
  • Seismic Toss is the move that it uses to provides consistent damage output, racking up damage against the opposition in a reliable manner.
  • Body Press is also an option over Seismic Toss that allows Registeel to abuse take advantage of its high Defense stat to deal significant damage to targets such as Zarude, Hydreigon, and Excadrill.
  • Toxic cripples would-be switch-ins including Slowking and Hippowdon, and puts a timer on common Defog users like Salamence and Mandibuzz. Thunder Wave is also an option that cripples faster offensive threats including Azelf, Keldeo, and Gyarados, whilst also providing valuable speed control.
  • Earthquake allows Registeel to threaten various Toxic-immune Pokemon, including Nidoqueen, Excadrill, and Tentacruel.
  • Maximum Special Defense with a Careful nature allows Registeel to better check Salamence and Meteor Beam Nihilego. It does not check much with full Defense investment barring Zarude and Crobat lacking Taunt.

Paragraph 2
  • Registeel fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that appreciate the solid defensive utility it provides.
  • Fire- and Fighting-type checks including Salamence and Slowking pair well with it defensively, due to how much Registeel can struggle with them.
  • Partners that can threaten common hazard removal, such as Thundurus-T or Rotom-W, are all valuable partners, as they assist in keeping Stealth Rock up and also have access to Volt Switch to rack up chip damage. Thundurus-T and Rotom-W threaten common hazard removal and pivot Registeel in. Tentacruel, Mandibuzz, Rotom-W and the aforementioned Salamence can also remove Spikes that cuts Registeel's longevity.
  • Bulky Grass-types, such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth, are good partners that can check Keldeo and Zygarde-10%, which otherwise threaten Registeel.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Heavy Slam is an option on Stealth Rock sets over Seismic Toss to better deal with Hatterene, but you sacrifice consistent damage on other targets.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Powerful wallbreakers like Entei, Nidoking, Choice Specs Chandelure, Choice Specs Hydreigon, and Mamoswine can keep Registeel from setting up freely due to their powerful attacks forcing it into Rest. However, they can struggle to take on Registeel if it accumulates multiple boosts prior.

**Taunt and Trick**: Users of Taunt such as Mandibuzz and Crobat annoy both Registeel sets. Trick users are extremely problematic as well, namely Choice Scarf Jirachi and Rotom-Wash, as they cripple Registeel and make it virtually useless.

**Fighting-types and Fighting-type coverage**: Fighting-types like Keldeo and Conkeldurr can immediately threaten it with big damage and force it to Rest, leaving it exploitable.. Common users of Fighting-type coverage such as Iron Defense Skarmory, Nasty Plot Thundurus-T, and Swords Dance Scizor, also immediately threaten Registeel.

**Fighting resistant sweepers**: Setup sweepers that are also resistant to Body Press, including Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro, Calm Mind Hatterene, Nasty Plot + Flamethrower Togekiss, and Swords Dance Tapu Bulu, force out Registeel before it is able to start sweeping.

Amateur check, please defer to QC, another very excellent piece by you. my biggest comments I think were on usage for demon set: it's not intuitive at all how it works, i think it's worth spelling out that nidoking/moltres DO NOT CHECK YOU if they switch into Amnesia, and that body press is ridiculously strong at +6 (and perhaps you can add it's reasonably powerful even without boosts).

[OVERVIEW]
  • Registeel serves the purpose of a bulky ChestoRest + double dance sweeper in the UU tier, as its bulk combined with its amazing Steel-typing give it the edge in a multitude of matchups. It is able to set up on common UU staples such as Nihilego, Chansey, and Scizor and bait offensive threats that have super effective coverage against it, such as Zygarde-10%, Conkeldurr Salamence, and pivot Thundurus-T, effectively using them as setup fodder to start a sweep. Conkeldurr is more impressive and Mence is usually defensive plus even if it was offensive, they usually dont switch into Registeel anyways.
  • Because of its ability to boost its bulk on both ends, Registeel is given multiple opportunities to set up and can potentially steamroll teams lacking a strong Ghost- or Fighting-type, Taunt, or certain sweepers that don't take much from Body Press. It also has a good amount of PP on Iron Defense, Amnesia, and Rest, so it is able to stall out Pokemon like Slowking. and Galarian Slowbro. UU's fighting types don't check registeel at all (Conk, Cobalion, Keldeo all lose if Registeel gets a free ID on anything, unless Keldeo uses the extremely rare and not mentioned in analysis Focus Blast, so it still easily steamrolls these teams. Also, I took the "strong" out since Ghost types don't really need to be strong to beat it. Lastly, I took out Galarian Slowbro since you don't stall it out - CM Flame beats you usually and AV you beat but not by stalling, you beat it by killing it and it can't heal. You can put Amoonguss here instead if you want another example of something you stall out
  • Registeel is also a solid defensive Stealth Rock setter for many teams, checking various offensive threats, including Nihilego, Zarude, and Starmie.
  • It also has access to debilitating status such as Thunder Wave and Toxic that make it less passive against offensive teams.
  • However, while Registeel's defensive profile is phenomenal, its passivity leads it to inviting common wallbreakers and setup sweepers in like Keldeo and Nidoking.
  • It also faces stiff competition as a Steel-type Stealth Rock setter from the likes of Excadrill and Cobalion, as well as competition as a general Steel-type from Skarmory and Scizor. Excadrill having Rapid Spin, Cobalion with a secondary Fighting-type and access to Volt Switch, and both Skarmory and Scizor having reliable recovery are all reasons to consider them over Registeel.
  • Registeel also fears the ever-present Knock Off, as it heavily relies on Chesto Berry to get rid of debilitating status without the drawback of Sleep, or Leftovers, which is its only source of passive recovery. Whether it's double dance or Stealth Rock, both sets losing their items ultimately result in Registeel's longevity being cut, which can be problematic in the long term.

name: Demon Regi (Double Dance) Would love to call it Chinese Registeel if possible!! It could lead to interesting questions and getting people into UUWC

move 2: Iron Defense
move 3: Rest
move 4: Body Press
item: Chesto Berry
ability: Clear Body

evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Paragraph 1
  • A double dance set with Amnesia and Iron Defense allows Registeel to bolster its bulk. Iron Defense in particular makes Body Press' power skyrocket to exceptional levels. With Amnesia and Iron Defense, it is able to set up on multiple Pokemon, including Zarude, Salamence, and Tangrowth. This gives Registeel room to boost the other unboosted stat as well. After a single Amnesia, Pokemon that intuitively counter Registeel like Moltres and Nidoking are unable to 2HKO and at best have to fish for a critical hit in order to KO Registeel. This is a key usage point that even top players don't get at first, maybe give it an entire bullet point if you want.
  • Rest is used on this set, as in tandem with Chesto Berry, it allows Registeel to rid itself of burns and paralysis that would otherwise get in the way of a sweep. Rest also gives Registeel longevity to last throughout a game and stay healthy versus the likes of Excadrill, Moltres, and Cobalion. Personally, it took me a while to understand why Chesto is used on these sets compared to Lum. idt it's standard to explain why (and you already did a good job going around it by talking about burn/paralysis, but you didn't spell it out with an explicit reference to lum would activate early), but if you think it's worth it, ask QC what they think.
  • Clear Body prevents Registeel's Special Defense and Defense stats from being lowered, which would also make sweeping harder. Defense drops from Liquidation on Azumarill would otherwise be much more difficult to handle.
  • Maximum Defense investment with a Bold nature is needed to fully strengthen Body Press and increase its damage output and allows Registeel to more freely set up on Azumarill, Zygarde-10%, and Excadrill. At maximum boosts, Registeel becomes incredibly powerful and is able to even 2HKO physically defensive Slowking with a favorable roll or minor chip damage.
Paragraph 2
  • Registeel fits best on stall and balance teams that have means of dealing with Pokemon immune to Body Press, namely Chandelure. Mandibuzz and Hydreigon are both appreciated in this regard. Mandibuzz is a pretty shitty Chandelure counter. Idk, I don't think Chandelure is relevant enough to lead with this point in any case, maybe put this point down later (but whatever you keep as the first point, do mention it works best on stall/balance). I know this comment creates some work for you, if you want an easy way to approach this, just delete Mandibuzz and keep everything else.
  • Pokemon that can check offensive Fighting-types, such as Keldeo and Conkeldurr, are valuable teammates. Moltres, Salamence, and Slowking are good Fighting-type checks that work well alongside Registeel.
  • Because Registeel hates Knock Off, absorbers like Amoonguss, Tapu Bulu and Rocky Helmet Tangrowth make great partners. Tapu Bulu also provides Grassy Terrain support to give Registeel passive recovery and weaken Earthquake from Mamoswine and Excadrill.
  • Nihilego is a solid partner for Registeel, as it removes common Fighting-type resists such as Hatterene and Togekiss, and provides Stealth Rock and Knock Off support that can aid in wearing down the opposition. It is also a reliable counter to Chandelure, one of Registeel's biggest counters.
  • Rotom-W is also an excellent Pokemon to use alongside Registeel, as it threatens offensive Ground-types like Nidoking and Mamoswine, as well as Skarmory. and threaten Skarmory as well. It also can provide valuable Defog support to clear the field of Spikes.
  • Umbreon is a valuable teammates that provides Wish support for Registeel, so it is forced to Rest much less often. It can also Heal Bell so Registeel is not overly reliant on Chesto Berry.
  • Calm Mind Hatterene is a good partner for Registeel as well, due to countering Skarmory that would otherwise Whirlwind Registeel out or KO Registeel after boosting alongside it with super effective Body Press. It also prevents Skarmory from laying Spikes that would wear down Registeel a lot faster. Maybe get rid of the ww mention, I don't think standard skarm uses ww anymore.
  • Chansey and Quagsire can handle setup sweepers like Calm Mind Slowking, which make them good partners for Registeel. Chansey in particular can provide Aromatherapy support to wake Registeel up after a Rest. Okay I think you have a couple options here. The issue is that CM Slowking doesn't really beat Registeel - it is a roll to 2HKOs Slowking at max boosts so Slowking has to spam slack off and registeel can pick and choose when to attack. So you can 1) switch the sweeper to Celesteela, but that doesn't really beat regi either, 2) delete this bullet, 3) delete quagsire and talk about how chansey benefits it (aroma + beating special attackers like nidoking or something). Lots of other ways you can approach this but again, the issue is that CM Slowking isn't really an issue for Regi.

Paragraph 1
  • Seismic Toss provides consistent damage output, racking up damage against the opposition in a reliable manner.
  • Body Press is also an option over Seismic Toss that allows Registeel to take advantage of its high Defense stat to deal significant damage to targets such as Zarude, Hydreigon, and Excadrill.
  • Toxic cripples switch-ins including Slowking and Hippowdon, and puts a timer on common Defog users like Salamence and Mandibuzz.
Most importantly, it OHKOS Nihilego.
  • Maximum Special Defense with a Careful nature allows Registeel to better check Salamence and Meteor Beam Nihilego. It does not check much with full Defense investment barring Zarude and Crobat lacking Taunt. Maximum defense allows it to better check Dragon Dance Salamence, Zarude, and Gyarados, but it's still not a perfect counter to any of these threats. So first of all, you can check Tauntless crobat even without a single ev in anything so it's not a good example of something you need defense for. Second, I do think my examples are more relevant here (mence and gyara) and the key thing to note is that you are not a perfect counter to them, unlike nihilego, which you pretty much are a perfect counter to with max spdef. You can also mention here body press is better with max defense for zarude and trading blows with things like exca (or just mention max def helps body press since you already mention zarude and exca in bullet point 1).

Paragraph 2
  • Registeel fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that appreciate the solid defensive utility it provides.
  • Fire- and Fighting-type checks including Salamence and Slowking pair well with it defensively, due to how much Registeel can struggle with them.
  • Thundurus-T and Rotom-W threaten common hazard removal and pivot Registeel in. Tentacruel, Mandibuzz, Rotom-W and the aforementioned Salamence can also remove Spikes that cuts Registeel's longevity. Not a big deal but I don't think registeel really needs pivot support
  • Bulky Grass-types, such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth, are good partners that can check Keldeo and Zygarde-10%, which otherwise threaten Registeel.

Other Options

  • Heavy Slam is an option on Stealth Rock sets over Seismic Toss to better deal with Hatterene and Togekiss, but you sacrifice consistent damage on other target like Scizor and Zarude.
  • Ask QC if you think you should mention the psychic seed set which lets you run eq, iirc that was mainly for aegi so probably not, but worth asking them i think

Checks and Counters
===================

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Powerful wallbreakers like Entei, Nidoking, Choice Specs Chandelure, Choice Specs Hydreigon, and Mamoswine can keep Registeel from setting up freely due to their powerful attacks forcing it into Rest. However, they can struggle to take on Registeel if it accumulates a relevant boost multiple boosts prior. Chandelure in particular takes no damage from Body Press and almost effortlessly beats the Demon Registeel set. Registeel doesn't need "multiple" boosts to beat any of these - Mamoswine can't 2HKO you after ID and just dies to Press, Hydreigon is a pretty bad answer in general because weak to BP and cant OHKO, Nidoking and Entei cannot 2HKO after a relevant boost so it just becomes set up.

Nobody uses Taunt Mandi and it would still die to Body Press after roosting eventually.

**Fighting-types and Fighting-type coverage**: Fighting-types like Keldeo and Conkeldurr can immediately threaten it with big damage and force it to Rest, leaving it exploitable. Common users of Fighting-type coverage such as Iron Defense Skarmory, Nasty Plot Thundurus-T, and Swords Dance Scizor, also immediately threaten Registeel. However, all of these Pokemon must come in before Registeel boosts on the relevant stat or else they will lose to Registeel, Conkeldurr for example loses the ability to 2HKO Registeel after an Iron Defense boost.

**Fighting resistant sweepers**: Setup sweepers resistant to Body Press, including Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro, Calm Mind Hatterene, Nasty Plot + Flamethrower Togekiss, and Swords Dance Tapu Bulu, force out Registeel before it is able to start sweeping.

Whether it's double dance or Stealth Rock, both sets losing their items ultimately result in Registeel's longevity being cut, which can be problematic in the long term this bit w knock is very wordy and can be condensed. A double dance set with Amnesia and Iron Defense allows Registeel to bolster its bulk. Iron Defense in particular makes Body Press' power skyrocket to exceptional levels. With Amnesia and Iron Defense, it is able to set up on multiple Pokemon, including Zarude Hippowdon, Salamence, and Tangrowth. This gives Registeel room to boost the other unboosted stat as well. After a single Amnesia, Pokemon that intuitively counter Registeel like Moltres and Nidoking are unable to 2HKO and at best have to fish for a critical hit in order to KO. Rest is used on this set, as in tandem with Chesto Berry, it allows Registeel to rid itself of burns and paralysis that would otherwise get in the way of a sweep. Rest also gives Registeel longevity to last throughout a game and stay healthy versus the likes of Excadrill, Moltres Scizor, and Cobalion. Clear Body prevents Registeel's Special Defense and Defense stats from being lowered, which would also make sweeping harder, as Defense drops from Liquidation on Azumarill would otherwise be much more difficult to handle. Maximum Defense investment with a Bold nature is needed to fully strengthen Body Press and increase its damage output and allows Registeel to more freely set up on Azumarill, Zygarde-10%, and Excadrill this point would be better suited toward the start. At maximum boosts, Registeel becomes incredibly powerful and is able to even 2HKO physically defensive Slowking with a favorable damage roll or minor chip damage this too.

Registeel fits best on stall bulky offense and balance teams that provide it many opportunities to boost and sweep. Chandelure is a massive problem for Registeel, being immune to Body Press and able to power through it, so Hydreigon is a valuable teammate that can shut Chandelure down is there a reason to just say ghost types?. Moltres, Salamence, and Slowking can check offensive Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Conkeldurr for Registeel. Because Registeel hates appreciates Knock Off, absorbers like Amoonguss, Tapu Bulu, and Rocky Helmet Tangrowth make great partners to ensure safer setup. Tapu Bulu also provides Grassy Terrain support to give Registeel passive recovery and weaken Earthquake from Mamoswine and Excadrill Diggersby. Nihilego is a solid partner for Registeel, as it removes common Fighting-type resists such as Hatterene and Togekiss, and provides Stealth Rock and Knock Off support that can aid in wearing down the opposition. It is also a reliable counter to Chandelure. Rotom-W is also an excellent Pokemon to use alongside Registeel, as it threatens offensive Ground-types like Nidoking and Mamoswine, as well as Skarmory. It can also provide valuable Defog support to clear the field of Spikes. Umbreon is a valuable teammates that provides Wish support for Registeel, so it is forced to Rest much less often. Calm Mind Hatterene is a good partner for Registeel as well, due to countering Skarmory which can KO Registeel after boosting alongside it with its own Body Press. It also prevents Skarmory from laying Spikes that would wear down Registeel a lot faster. Chansey can handle Special attackers like Nidoking for Registeel while also providing Aromatherapy support to wake it up after a Rest, or rid it of debilitating status, making it less reliant on Rest overall.

Seismic Toss provides consistent damage output, racking up damage against the opposition in a reliable manner. Body Press is also an option over Seismic Toss that allows Registeel to take advantage of its high Defense stat to deal significant damage to targets such as Zarude, Hydreigon, and Excadrill. Toxic cripples switch-ins including Slowking and Hippowdon, and puts a timer on common Defog users like Salamence and Mandibuzz. Thunder Wave is also an option that cripples faster offensive threats including Azelf, Keldeo, and Gyarados, whilst also providing valuable speed control. Earthquake allows Registeel to threaten various Toxic-immune Pokemon, including Nidoqueen, Excadrill, and Tentacruel Galarian Slowbro. Most importantly, it OHKOes Nihilego. Maximum Special Defense with a Careful nature allows Registeel to better check Salamence and Meteor Beam Nihilego. Maximum Defense allows it to better check Zarude, Gyarados, and Dragon Dance Salamence, but it does not perfectly counter the aforementioned threats. When using Body Press, maximum Defense investment may be used to further strengthen it. The Defense investment also allows Registeel to trade against threats like Zarude and Excadrill.

Registeel fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that appreciate the solid defensive utility it provides. It can also use Earthquake to better check Special attackers such as Nidoking and Nihilego. However, losing Chesto Berry makes it much more vulnerable after being forced into a Rest, as well as being much less threatening without Body Press to take advantage of Iron Defense boosts. psych terrain isn't ranked

Excadrill having Rapid Spin, Cobalion having a secondary Fighting-type and access to Volt Switch, and both Skarmory and Scizor having reliable recovery are all reasons to consider them over Registeel would prolly sound better separate points, exca and coba have an offensive presence and scizor and skarmory have actual recovery, don't bother mentioning typing if you arent gonna mention what it helps against. Registeel also fears the ever-present Knock Off, as it heavily relies on Chesto Berry to get rid of debilitating status without the drawback of Sleep, or Leftovers, which is its only source of passive recovery. Whether it's double dance or Stealth Rock, both sets losing their items ultimately result in Registeel's longevity being cut, which can be problematic in the long term this bit w knock is very wordy and can be condensed. It also often forced into clicking Rest while boosting, which gives wallbreakers like Keldeo and Nidoking chances to fish for critical hits to KO it through its boosts.

[SET]
name: Chinese Demon Registeel (Double Dance)
move 1: Amnesia
move 2: Iron Defense
move 3: Rest
move 4: Body Press
item: Chesto Berry
ability: Clear Body
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Chansey can handle Special attackers like Nidoking for Registeel while also providing Aromatherapy support to wake it up after a Rest, or rid it of debilitating status, making it less reliant on Rest overall.

name: Stealth Rock
move 1: Seismic Toss / Body Press
move 2: Toxic / Thunder Wave
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stealth Rock
item: Leftovers
ability: Clear Body
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Fire- and Fighting-type checks including Salamence and Slowking pair well with it defensively, taking on threats like Keldeo and Motres Moltres. Thundurus-T and Rotom-W threaten common entry hazard removal like?. Tentacruel, Mandibuzz, and the aforementioned Salamence can also remove Spikes that cuts Registeel's longevity. Bulky Grass-types, such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth, are good partners that can check Keldeo and Zygarde-10%, which otherwise threaten Registeel.

Heavy Slam is an option on Stealth Rock sets over Seismic Toss to better deal with Hatterene and Togekiss, but you sacrifice consistent damage on other targets like Scizor and Zarude. Psychic Seed over Chesto Berry on Chinese Registeel makes it much bulkier and harder to initially take down.

Checks and Counters

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Powerful wallbreakers like Entei, Nidoking, Chandelure, and Mamoswine can keep Registeel from setting up freely due to their powerful attacks forcing it into Rest. However, they can struggle to take on Registeel if it accumulates a relevant boost. Chandelure in particular takes no damage from Body Press and almost effortlessly beats the Chinese Registeel set.

**Taunt and Trick**: Users of Taunt such as Crobat annoy both Registeel sets. Trick users are extremely problematic as well, namely Choice Scarf Jirachi and Rotom-W, as they cripple Registeel and make it virtually useless.

However, all of these Pokemon must come in before Registeel boosts the correct stat, or else they lose to Registeel. Conkeldurr, for example, cannot 2HKO Registeel after an Iron Defense boost.

**Quagsire**: Quagsire staves off Body Press with no issue due to its ability, Unaware, completely ignoring the boosts from Iron Defense. It can come in freely and use Haze, putting a stop to any sort of sweep.

Tentacruel, Mandibuzz, and the aforementioned Salamence can also remove Spikes that cuts, which cut into Registeel's longevity.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Strong Wallbreakers**: Powerful wallbreakers like Nidoking, Chandelure, and Mamoswine can keep Registeel from setting up freely due to their attacks forcing it into use Rest. However, they can struggle to take on Registeel if it accumulates enough boosts. Chandelure in particular takes no damage from Body Press and almost effortlessly beats the Demon Registeel set, in particular, is troublesome due to its immunity to Body Press; it almost effortlessly beats Double Dance Registeel.

**Taunt and Trick**: Users of Taunt users such as Crobat annoy both Registeel sets.

Common users of Fighting-type coverage such as Iron Defense Skarmory, Nasty Plot Thundurus-T, and Swords Dance Scizor, also immediately threaten Registeel. However, all of these Pokemon must come in before Registeel boosts the correct stat, or else they lose to it.

**Fighting-Resistant Sweepers**: Setup sweepers resistant to Body Press, including Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro, Calm Mind Hatterene, Nasty Plot + Flamethrower Togekiss, and Swords Dance Tapu Bulu, force out Registeel out before it is able to start sweeping.

**Quagsire**: Quagsire staves off Body Press with no issue due to Unaware completely ignoring the boosts from Iron Defenseits Unaware allowing it to ignore Registeel's boosts. It can come in freely and use Haze, putting a stop to any sort of sweep.

[OVERVIEW]
Registeel serves the purpose of a bulky ChestoRest + Double Dance sweeper, as its bulk, combined with its amazing Steel typing, gives it the edge in a multitude of matchups. It is able to set up on common UU staples such as Nihilego, Chansey, and Scizor and bait offensive threats that have super effective coverage against itit it super effectively, such as Zygarde-10%, Conkeldurr, and pivot Thundurus-T, effectively using them as setup fodder to start a sweep. It also has access to status such asin Thunder Wave and Toxic, which makes it less passive against offensive teams. However, while Registeel's defensive profile is phenomenal, its passivity leads it to inviting common wallbreakers and setup sweepers in, like Keldeo and Nidoking. It also faces stiff competition as a Steel-type Stealth Rock setter from the likes of Excadrill and Cobalion, both of which have an actual offensive presence. Registeel also faces competition as a defensive Steel-type from Skarmory and Scizor; both have reliable recovery and Skarmory can check Pokemon like Gyarados and Diggersby. Registeel also greatly fears Knock Off on either set because of how reliant it is on its item to stay healthy throughout a game. It's also often forced to use Rest between boosting, which gives wallbreakers like Keldeo and Nidoking chances to fish for critical hits to KO it through its boosts.

name: Demon Registeel (Double Dance)
move 1: Amnesia

move 3: Rest
move 4: Body Press
item: Chesto Berry
ability: Clear Body
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Maximum Defense investment with a Bold nature is needed to fully strengthen Body Press and increase its damage output and allows, allowing Registeel to more freely set up on Azumarill, Zygarde-10%, and Excadrill. Iron Defense, in particular, makes Body Press's power skyrocket to exceptional levels. At +6, Registeel becomes incredibly powerful and is able to 2HKO even 2HKO physically defensive Slowking with a favorable damage roll or minor chip damage. With Amnesia and Iron Defense, it is able to set up on multiple Pokemon, including Hippowdon, Salamence, and Tangrowth. This gives Registeel room to boost the otherits unboosted stat as well. After a single Iron Defense, for example, Conkeldurr, for example, cannot 2HKO Registeel after an Iron Defense boost. Amnesia, Pokemon that intuitively counter Registeel like Conkeldurr, Moltres and Nidoking are unable to 2HKO it and at best have. Amnesia leaves Pokemon that would otherwise counter Registeel, such as Moltres and Nidoking, unable to 2HKO it, forcing them to fish for a critical hit in order to KO. Rest, along with Chesto Berry, allows Registeel to rid itself of burns and paralysistatus that would otherwise get in the way of a sweep.
