[OVERVIEW]

:ss/regice:

With a colorful movepool and a sky high special defense stat, Regice has cemented a niche for itself as a stallbreaker capable of setting up on majority of the tiers bulky special attackers while muscling past traditional Ice-type answers such as Stakataka, Copperajah, and Vaporeon. Despite these traits, Regice can find it difficult to safely get going thanks to a multitude of faster physical attackers, a Stealth Rock weakness, and a middling Speed tier.

For Regice to set up, blocking utility moves that can stop a sweep, like Toxic or Trick, and revenge killing attempts from physical attackers like Toxicroak and Passimian with a Substitute is key. Charge Beam gives Regice the opportunity to boost its SpA while breaking through bulky Water-types like Vaporeon and Mantine that can eat an Ice Beam. Focus Blast lets Regice break through Steel-types like Stakataka and Copperajah and Thick Fat Snorlax, all of which have the ability to comfortably switch into its STAB. Because Regice is already so bulky on the special side, investing in special attack lets it maximize its damage output, and with max speed and a Timid nature, Regice can set up on almost every bulky special attacker in the tier without fear of a status move while threatening out Choice Band Golurk and Alolan Exeggutor.

To best facilitate a Regice sweep, keeping it healthy and away from chip damage should be your top priority, so hazard control from the likes of Rotom-C, Xatu, or Starmie is appreciated. Along the same lines, Regice loves pivot support from the aforementioned three Pokemon, Passimian, and Talonflame, all of whom help bring Regice in on defensive Pokemon like Mantine, Vaporeon, and Vileplume without fear of status and value Regice's ability to set up on their respective checks. Because Escavalier is a Steel-type with a Fighting neutrality, it makes for the hardest counter to Regice, so teammates who can threaten out Escavalier, such as Salazzle, Alolan Exeggutor, and Heat Crash Copperajah, all make for powerful partners. With its middling speed tier, Regice also has to be wary of faster physical attackers which can threaten OHKO on it like Toxicroak, Aerodactyl, and Arcanine, so partners who can handle physical attackers such as Mudsdale, Quagsire, and Vileplume are helpful to have.

Checks and Counters
====

**Escavalier**: Escavalier is the only Steel-type with a Fighting-type neutrality in the tier, which lets it shut down Regice without fear of a Focus Blast.

**Physical Attackers**: Although Regice has respectable physical bulk, because of its Ice-typing and low speed, a majority of the tiers physical attackers, such as Toxicroak, Passimian, and Aerodactyl, can force it out or revenge kill it.

**Entry Hazards**: If forced to consistently take Stealth Rock chip or poisoned from Toxic Spikes, Regice's effectiveness plummets and it can find it much harder to get behind a Substitute, let alone sweep.
