Rate of the Month
RotM is a project that looks to bring quality individual rates into the spotlight and recognise the hard work of unbadged raters.

Concept
  • Every month, official Team Raters will monitor the rates posted in their respective tiers.
  • A few will be chosen that the RMT staff feel exemplify the qualities of an excellent rate.
  • These rates will be posted in this thread, along with a paragraph explaining why the particular rate won. This will allow aspiring raters to gain an idea of what constitutes high-quality rates, and hopefully incorporate those aspects into their own rates.
  • Official Team Raters are eligible to win, but unbadged raters will have priority.
Prizes
  • Winners will earn a place in the Hall of Fame, which will be kept in the OP of every thread, and will earn more consideration for the Ladybug
    and Team Rater
    badges.
  • After gaining three places in the Hall of Fame, a rater will be eligible to earn voice status in the RMT room on PS! on the condition that they've shown an interest in getting involved.
We hope that this project will encourage people to put more effort into their rates and become better and more experienced raters, consequently increasing the quality of rates posted in the forum. Good luck to you all!

Yo, big congrats to MFJK and curiosity for winning Rate of the Month of November!

MFJK made a solid rate on this team around M-Pinsir. He first notices a weakness to Celesteela, a Pokemon that annoys the majority of the team due to Rotom-W not having consistent recovery. He also mentions Zygarde and Ash Greninja as two big threats for the team which is completely true considering that nothing switches into a powerful Thousand Arrows and the actual Ash Greninja check is Scarf Greninja which is prone to being to worn down easily. MFJK's major change is Tangrowth over Landoru-Therian which greatly improve the matchup against the aforementioned threats in Zygarde and Ash Greninja.

Then, he decides to change Greninja's current set to a Choice Specs Ash one, allowing the team to have even more offensive power. He replaces Garchomp's item with Rockium Z and make it Stealth Rocker since Landorus-T was removed. This set, while just being the best Garchomp set in the metagame, works perfectly with M-Pinsir thanks to its ability to consistently pressure and lure Pokemon such as Zapdos and opposite Landorus-T. With the need of some speed control, MFJK makes Jirachi the Choice Scarfer of the team, with Healing Wish in order to give M-Pinsir a second chance at sweeping.

Finally, he makes optional suggestions in Close Combat > Earthquake M-Pinsir and Leftovers > Iapapa Berry Rotom-W. The first one can be a personal thought but hitting super effectively the likes of Ferrothorn is generally pretty good. The second one prevents Rotom-W from being worn down too easily and so helps dealing with Celesteela.

curiosity starts off this very detailed rate of a bulky offense by pointing out some issues the team has such as the lack of speed control and the lack of counterplays versus top-tiers like Kartana, Mega Alakazam, Tapu Lele, Protean Greninja, but also Flying-Types in Tornadus-T and Mega Pinsir. With a view to address the Flying-Type weakness, curiosity suggest running Rotom-W over Zygarde. Not only does this change provide a great answer to both Tornadus-T and M-Pinsir but it also reliably checks Protean Greninja. Rotom-W also still is a Heatran answer which removes the pression off of Hydreigon. Last but not least, Rotom-W improves the Stall matchup by the use of Pain Split, allowing it to pass through defensive threats such as Chansey and Zapdos.

Now that the Z-Move slot is freed, he changes Hydreigon's item to Z Dark. This set, while still having an awesome offensive presence, can make use of Roost in order to check better threats in Heatran and Ash Greninja. Then, he opts for a Choice Scarf set on Landorus-T since the team desperately needed speed control, note that it also creates a VoltTurn core with Rotom-W. curiosity also changes Heatran's set for a specially defensive one with Stealth Rocker.

Concerning Mega Mawile, curiosity suggests both running a bulkier spread and Thunder Punch on it. The first suggestion allows it to somewhat check better Mega Alakazam and Hawlucha while the second change supports Hydreigon by weakening Toxapex and Celesteela. He finally mentions an optional change of Sludge Bomb Tangrowth which would help the team deal with Serperior and Tapu Bulu.

Congrats to you two and keep it up!
