Rate of the Month
RotM is a project that looks to bring quality individual rates into the spotlight and recognise the hard work of unbadged raters.

Concept
  • Every month, official Team Raters will monitor the rates posted in their respective tiers.
  • A few will be chosen that the RMT staff feel exemplify the qualities of an excellent rate.
  • These rates will be posted in this thread, along with a paragraph explaining why the particular rate won. This will allow aspiring raters to gain an idea of what constitutes high-quality rates, and hopefully incorporate those aspects into their own rates.
  • Official Team Raters are eligible to win, but unbadged raters will have priority.
Prizes
  • Winners will earn a place in the Hall of Fame, which will be kept in the OP of every thread, and will earn more consideration for the Ladybug
    and Team Rater
    badges.
  • After gaining three places in the Hall of Fame, a rater will be eligible to earn voice status in the RMT room on PS! on the condition that they've shown an interest in getting involved.
We hope that this project will encourage people to put more effort into their rates and become better and more experienced raters, consequently increasing the quality of rates posted in the forum. Good luck to you all!

We have three winners for August from two different tiers! Congratulations to vivalospride, Charmflash and DKM!

vivalospride starts off his rate by pointing out general issues of the team such as the lack of a Stealth Rocker which is mandatory in every competitive team and the lack of an Electric immunity which lets Pokemon like Mega Manectric apply pressure for free with Volt Switch. He also notices that the team uses two passive defoggers which don't fit well together as the team is focused on applying pressure thanks to the VoltTurn core in Mega Manectric and Scizor. In order to fix that, vivalospride decides to remove Reuniclus for Krookodile which provides both a Ground-Type and a Stealth Rocker that's able to set them up againt Ghost-Types, a big threat for the star of the team: Mienshao. He then replaces Mantine with Tentacruel, an hazard remover which also improves the Stall matchup thanks to Toxic Spikes.

He wraps up his rate by suggesting a few minor changes such as making Mienshao Choice Scarf to give speed control, making Togekiss Nasty Plot which transform it into a win condition and another way to beat Stall, and making Scizor bulkier to check better Latias in particular.

Charmflash made a very detailed rate for this Hydreigon bulky offense where he went through each Pokemon set. He starts off by changing Hydreigon's spread to a bulkier one which allows it to check Ash Greninja as it's not 2HKOed by Hydro Pump anymore. He then suggests Flamethrower over Fire Blast and Taunt / Earth Power over Draco Meteor due to better PP and the unappreciated SpA drop respectively. Taunt makes a bigger threat for fat teams while Earth Power allows it to OHKO Heatran. After this, he decides to change a bit Tangrowth and Rotom-W's spreads. He makes Rotom-W faster in order to outspeed defensive variants of Heatran, Defensive Landorus-T and Belly Drum Azumarill. He also advices to keep Sassy Tangrowth which is the best Nature for it.

Charmflash's next suggestion is to change Mega Mawile's spread. He drops a bit of its Attack (which doesn't matter since Mawile is already a powerhouse) to add bulk in order to better check offensively the likes of Mega Pinsir, Hoopa-U, Tapu Lele and Hawlucha and speed in order to help against Clefable, Chansey and uninvested Skarmory. On Scarf Landorus-T, he suggests Explosion over Hidden Power Ice which allows it to revenge kill a plethora of dangerous threats while HP Ice isn't important considering Tangrowth already carries it for Zygarde and other Landorus-Ts. To finish his rate, if Hydreigon runs Taunt, Charmflash advises to make Heatran Specially Defensive, letting it act like a consistent answer to Magearna, Tapu Lele and Volcarona.

The last winner rate is DKM's one. He starts off it by mentioning main threats of the team like Ash Greninja and both Mega Latios and Mega Latias. His first major change is to replace Celebi with another defensive Grass-Type in Tangrowth which does the job better notably since it is a great answer to most special threats such as the aforementioned Ash Greninja. He then replaces Hippowdon with CB Tyranitar, a great partner for Mega Charizard Y that supports it by trapping Psychic-Types.

He wraps up his rate by fixing minor things on the team's sets. DKM makes Rotom-W Iapapa Berry, an item that allows Rotom-W to take more hits throughout the game. He also changes its spread to a more Physically Defensive oriented one to better check Gyarados, Mega Swampert, Tyranitar and Mega Pinsir. He makes Clefable the Stealth Rocker of the team since Hippowdon was replaced and also suggests the standard spread which is max HP max Def to help take hits from the likes of Mega Medicham, Hawlucha and Zygarde.

Since the team lacks a Z Move user, DKM chooses to change Excadrill's Life Orb for Steelium Z, allowing it to have a powerful move capable of OHKOing most variants of Landorus-T, Gliscor and Zygarde. He also advides to make Excadrill Jolly so it is faster than Heatran and Gliscor. His last set suggestion is to go with the standard spread of max Speed and Spa on Mega Charizard Y to maximise the power and the speed.

Glad to see rates from lower tiers winning this project and keep it up for this month as well :pimp:
