Moving on, we now explore an unexpected but very threatening Gen 5 Mold Breaker abuser!

:bw/slaking:
Slaking @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Extreme Speed
- Shadow Sneak
- Close Combat

Can anything even stand up to this behemoth with these perfect coverage moves? Let’s find out!

Submitting Meloetta-Pirouette as a check.

:bw/meloetta-pirouette:
Meloetta-Pirouette @ Focus Sash
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Extreme Speed
- Close Combat
- Crunch

Meloetta-Pirouette with Fakespeed can revenge just about every Shell Smash user after their defenses have been lowered, and Slaking is no exception. After a Belly Drum, its health will drop to 51%, allowing Meloetta-Pirouette to easily revenge kill it.

252 Atk Huge Power Meloetta-Pirouette Fake Out vs. 248 HP / 252 Def Slaking: 102-121 (20.2 - 24%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
252 Atk Huge Power Meloetta-Pirouette Extreme Speed vs. 248 HP / 252 Def Slaking: 204-241 (40.5 - 47.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

:Giratina:
Giratina @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recover
- Haze
- Curse
- Spore/Gastro Acid

Giratina as a counter.

Giratina has insane bulk and with Prankster, it just becomes a pain to kill. Ghost type makes it immune to Extreme Speed and Close Combat. Shadow Sneak being only 40BP doesn't do much and even at +6 it fails to kill.

+6 252+ Atk Slaking Shadow Sneak vs. 248 HP / 252 Def Giratina: 312-368 (62 - 73.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Since the Slaking set is adamant, Giratina Timid outspeeds and you can actually use Haze before Slaking can use Shadow Sneak. Giratina can therefore switch easily on this Slaking set.

252+ Atk Slaking Shadow Sneak vs. 248 HP / 252 Def Giratina: 78-94 (15.5 - 18.6%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery

Spore puts Slaking and other foes to sleep making Curse less risky to use. Last move is recover because you do need to get your life back obviously. Gastro Acid could be considered over Spore as to make Giratina less Shadow Tag weak and help remove abilities like Mold Breaker to help your Wonder Guard pokemon.

Not much else to say. This Giratina just completely stops Slaking Mold Breaker if it doesn't run Spore.

SCARF SCIZOR as a check

Scizor @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Impish Nature
- U-turn / Filler
- Trick
- Roost
- Close Combat / Filler

Hardswaps into neutral Slaking and Tricks if it tries to drum.
252+ Atk Slaking Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Scizor: 121-143 (35.1 - 41.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Can even survive 1 ESpeed and Close Combat in return, if Slaking just has a little chip. Adamant would make it a chance to KO.
+6 252+ Atk Slaking Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Scizor: 240-283 (69.7 - 82.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Scizor Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Slaking: 208-246 (41.2 - 48.8%) -- 75.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Even without chip or CC you trick and die, but slaking is locked meaning you cant be 6-0'd.

Pokestar Spirit as a counter.

majin.png

Pokestar Spirit @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Impish Nature
- Substitute
- Haze
- Spore
- Baton Pass

This set is a fairly standard SubPass + Haze prankster. It can be used to protect your team from set-up sweepers like Slaking. Usually Pokestar Spirit runs Wonder Guard but it's unique weakness-free typing and moderately high defenses also allow Spirit to to also be a very effective Prankster. Prankster lets you add +1 priority to all your moves. Against Slaking this is especially effective because the only moves it typically uses to hit ghosts are Shadow Sneak, Earthquake, or Crunch. Earthquake and Crunch lack priority and you can haze away Slaking's Belly Drum boost, and even at +6 Shadow Sneak only takes less than half your HP.

and manu 11 comes in second place with Giratina :giratina:!

Next up is a Pokemon from the last Gen of this cycle, Gen 3 Kyogre on a request from AV Cosmoem!

Kyogre @ Leftovers
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substiute
- Calm Mind
- Water Spout
- Recover

This set allows Kyogre to set up Calm Minds behind a substitute and fire off powerful Rain-boosted Water Spouts!

Submission Phase ends Monday the 8th of June!

Poliwrath @ Lum Berry
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Cross Chop
- Shadow Ball
- Hydro Pump

Completely walls and uses Kyogre as setup fodder. If it had Baton Pass it couldve been an issue but it doesnt so you win. It still beats Spore users with Lum Berry too.

Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Recoverstalls neutral water spout, Whirlwind if they set up sub or a boost, Twave if you predict a switch (though it cripples kyogre if it is para'd too)

Rayquaza @ Choice Band
Ability: Air Lock
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Aeroblast
- Cross Chop
- Rock Blast
- Sleep Talk

CB Ray as a counter.

Because of Air Lock, Rayquaza's Dragon-typing, and its high Special Defense, Water Spout only does about 33%.

252+ SpA Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252 SpD Rayquaza: 126-149 (30.5 - 36%) -- 50% chance to 3HKO

In return, Rayquaza can 2HKO Kyogre with Aeroblast, after which Kyogre's Water Spout does nothing.

252+ Atk Choice Band Rayquaza Aeroblast vs. 248 HP / 252 Def Kyogre: 253-298 (62.7 - 73.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Kyogre Water Spout (62 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252 SpD Rayquaza: 52-62 (12.5 - 15%) -- possible 7HKO

Kabutops as a check.
:Kabutops:
Kabutops @ Lum Berry
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Explosion/Encore
- Swords Dance
- Rock Slide
- Destiny Bond

Kabutops is a check to Kyogre. Thanks to Swift Swim it outspeeds Kyogre and can use either Explosion or Destiny Bond to take it down. Destiny Bond is because Kyogre has Substitute. Rock Slide is just the Stab move and Swords Dance to set up.

The risk of this set is if Kyogre is already behind a sub as you need to potentially predict to Destiny Bond when it is attacking or Rock Slide when it uses Recover/Calm Mind to remove the sub and then use Explosion.

252+ Atk Kabutops Explosion vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Kyogre: 464-547 (114.8 - 135.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Kabutops Rock Slide vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Kyogre: 105-124 (25.9 - 30.6%) -- 3.1% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

You could make this set safer by putting Encore instead of Explosion as to beat Substitute easier and get free set up if they go for Recover/Calm Mind.

Doesn't Slaking just do this better?

:rs/slaking:

The point of using Kabutops is exploiting the rain that Kyogre sets itself with Swift Swim. It allows you to outspeed Kyogre even if it has +1 of Speed and as stated in my post it gives you a set up opportunity. If Kyogre is behind a sub, Slaking has a high chance of just dying (252+ SpA Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Slaking in Rain: 461-543 (91.4 - 107.7%) -- 50% chance to OHKO) unlike the Kabutops set that can bring Kyogre down with Destiny Bond. I forgot to mention it in my first post but i also picked Kabutops because it helps vs the best pokemon in the whole meta, Slaking and resist +6 Extreme Speed which is always nice to have.

Groudon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Spore
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

Groudon is a great counter to Kyogre because it doesn't take any damage from Water Spout and can setup SD and kill it with EQ. Jolly nature helps it outspeed so it doesn't have to deal with Substitute shenanigans.

+4 252 Atk Groudon Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Kyogre: 461-543 (114.1 - 134.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I don't know if the set has to be viable or just has to be able to beat the victim, but if you know please tell me.
The idea is good but sadly gen 3 pure hackmons is kinda weird in that you can't change pokemon's abilities yet (except for pokemon with only 1 ability for which you can have "no ability" which is basically only good for Slaking).

reserving latias then. thanks for the help

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic
- Recover
- Amnesia
- Taunt

Nominating Specially Defensive Latias as a check to CM Kyogre. Latias naturally outspeeds Kyogre and can Toxic stall it. Taunt stops Kyogre from gaining boosts, setting up Substitutes, and Recovering off Toxic damage. Amnesia boosts Special Defense so it can take hits better and Recover and Leftovers helps from losing health too quickly. Water Spout will also continually get weaker because of Toxic damage.

252+ SpA Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Latias in Rain: 135-159 (37 - 43.6%) -- 99.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ SpD Latias in Rain: 68-80 (18.6 - 21.9%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Kyogre Water Spout (75 BP) vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ SpD Latias in Rain: 34-40 (9.3 - 10.9%) -- possibly the worst move ever <-- By now you will have at least one boost and Kyogre will have 50% health left.

Raikou @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 Def
- Spore
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt / Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Raikou is a great check to Kyogre. It can spore and then CM up. It will always live a Water Spout at +1 and 2HKO with a +1 Thunderbolt.
Thunder can also be used to OHKO at +1.
Calcs:
252+ SpA Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. +1 252 HP / 252 SpD Raikou in Rain: 237-279 (61.7 - 72.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Raikou Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Kyogre: 321-378 (79.4 - 93.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 252 SpA Raikou Thunder vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Kyogre: 404-476 (100 - 117.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
