Alright guys, 4 weeks into this and I think I may end up stopping it at the 6th or 7th week and finishing off the thread since Gen 8 (Sword and Shield) officially begins on Nov.15. Anyway, this week is double points so let's get this bread folks!

Week 5
The victim to kill dead this time is.................

Torterra @ Grassium Z
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Polish
- Wood Hammer
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Again, 2x points this week! Don't forget!

:sm/lurantis:
Lurantis @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
- Defog
- Leaf Storm
- Superpower
- Synthesis

lurantis is a counter. takes poopy damage from any and every move torterra can use, can recover hp freely with synthesis and boost with leaf storm/superpower. gg

252 Atk Torterra Wood Hammer vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Lurantis: 67-79 (19.5 - 23%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Torterra Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Lurantis: 105-125 (30.6 - 36.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Torterra Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Lurantis: 56-66 (16.3 - 19.2%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Torterra Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Lurantis: 75-89 (21.8 - 25.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

tangela

:sm/tangela:
Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power Fire
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed / Synthesis

Tangela is a counter to Torterra as it can come in on any attack with ease and just eats any hit up. Also it doesn't fear Grassium Z Wood Hammer because its good physical defence + grass-typing makes it that it won't take much damage from this either.
Also Tangela has the good ability in Regenerator, which makes it a contstant counter to Torterra. Furthermore Tangela can HP Fire or Giga Drain Torterra for decent damage and with the latter regain some health in the process. In overall Tangela is a big annoyance to Torterra and Torterra likes Tangela to be gone before it sets up its rock polish to break through teams.

calcs:
252 Atk Torterra Wood Hammer vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 38-45 (11.3 - 13.4%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Torterra Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 60-71 (17.9 - 21.2%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Torterra Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 32-38 (9.5 - 11.3%) -- possible 8HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Torterra Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 43-51 (12.8 - 15.2%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock

0 SpA Tangela Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Torterra: 93-111 (28 - 33.5%) -- 29.2% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Tangela Hidden Power Fire vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Torterra: 100-118 (30.2 - 35.6%) -- 92% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

HARD COUNTER:

Sandslash-Alola
@ Shuca Berry
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 HP / 72 Def / 184 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off

0 Atk Sandslash-Alola Icicle Crash vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Torterra: 352-420 (106 - 126.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+1 252 Atk Torterra Earthquake vs. 72 HP / 0 Def Shuca Berry Sandslash-Alola: 186-219 (60.1 - 70.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

This sandslash out speeds jolly tort and lives it's banded set and never fears toxic or leech seed and it can flinch to death bulky curse sets. Also it can live a Z move

252+ Atk Torterra Tectonic Rage (180 BP) vs. 72 HP / 252 Def Shuca Berry Sandslash-Alola: 199-235 (64.4 - 76%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes

This is the best counter, I think it should be a sandslash write up option.

Dodrio @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Early Bird
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Return
- Jump Kick
- Pursuit

Scarf Dodrio is a check. While it heavilly dislikes coming on Wood Hammer + Rocks or can't even on Z+sr/Stone Edge, it gets opportunities to do so on a predicted Rock Polish/Earthquake or after a kill then proceed to outspeed jolly +2 Tort and K.O it.
252 Atk Dodrio Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Torterra: 336-396 (101.5 - 119.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Torterra Wood Hammer vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Dodrio: 116-137 (44.4 - 52.4%) -- 20.7% chance to 2HKO ig it sorta can do this once

Avalugg seriously don't knock it till you've tried it oh god not the straight jacket

simisear.gif

Simisear @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Grass Knot
- Focus Blast
- Overheat

Oh, this thing again? Yeah, I wanted to come up with something that could also stop Torterra if it ever got +2 speed, which makes this a worthwhile check, because it's not going to want to come in on a Earfquake or Prone-to-miss Edge. With a scarf tied on, it hits 496 speed compared to +2 Torterra's 464. Fire Blast KOs where Flamethower cannot. Overheat's a filler, but it's there for the extra oomph you need against something you'll want to be switching away from anyway. Extra 5 points in accuracy doesn't hurt, either

252 Atk Torterra Wood Hammer vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Simisear: 126-149 (43.2 - 51.2%)
252 Atk Torterra Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Simisear: 199-235 (68.3 - 80.7%)
252 Atk Torterra Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Simisear: 282-332 (96.9 - 114%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO (which is statistically a 65% chance to KO when you factor in accuracy, but don't do that)
252 Atk Torterra Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Simisear: 422-498 (145 - 171.1%) (also don't do that)
252 SpA Simisear Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Torterra: 278-330 (83.9 - 99.6%) (nope)
252 SpA Simisear Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Torterra: 338-402 (102.1 - 121.4%) (yep)

Oricorio @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Dancer
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Hurricane
- Revelation Dance
- Roost

Oricorio is a strong check to Torterra, as it's immune to Earthquake, resists Wood Hammer, can survive a Stone Edge and OHKO with Supersonic Skystrike. I've only put it as a check, as it still takes a lot of damage in stopping Torterra, and if Stealth Rock is up Stone Edge can OHKO.

252 Atk Torterra Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Oricorio Pom-Pom: 256-302 (72.5-85.5%) 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock.
0 SpA Oricorio-Pom-Pom Supersonic Skystrike (185 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Torterra: 446-528 (134.7 - 159.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I was very tempted to nominate Scarf Aurorus, but instead I'm sticking with my guns and nominating the same mon as last week
1572838708894.png

I will be nominating Silvally-Dragon as a check Counter to Torterra
Silvally-Dragon @ Dragon Memory
Ability: RKS System
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam
- Defog/Surf/Flamethrower
- Parting Shot/U-turn

Silvally Dragon easily outspeeds an unboosted torterra and ohko's it 100% of the time with Ice Beam. That in tandem with its ability to survive any move torterra uses and even a solid chance to live through 2 hits makes Silvally-Dragon a counter against Torterra, even being able to safely defog if both switched in simultaneously. However Silvally-Dragon can't switch in on an already rock polished Torterra, take an earthquake, or bloom doom, and live the next hit guaranteed, although it does have a good chance to live. However if it comes in for free it will always beat Torterra

Alternatively you could tack some extra defense on to dragonvally to make him able to come in on a +2 speed torterra's earthquake (76 Def guarantees it lives 2 hits), as long as his special attack stays above 152, to guarantee an ohko, however this takes away from dragonvally's offensive presence, which I personally don't recommend

(I originally nominated it as a check as it cant switch in on a +2 spe earthquake or bloom doom and live 2 hits guaranteed, but I was a dummy, and it is a counter)

Calcs Below

Defensive-----------------------------
252 Atk Torterra Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Silvally-Dragon: 143-168 (43.2 - 50.7%) -- 3.9% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Torterra Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Silvally-Dragon: 151-178 (45.6 - 53.7%) -- 43.4% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Torterra Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Silvally-Dragon: 101-119 (30.5 - 35.9%) -- 43.6% chance to 3HKO
Offensive-------------------------------
252 SpA Silvally-Dragon Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Torterra: 360-428 (108.7 - 129.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Abomasnow Scarf
Abomasnow.png

Abomasnow @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Blizzard
- Giga Drain
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Abomasnow is a perfect Check because it is unable to enter the Torterra Rock Attacks and less to the Z move, but it is capable of doing OHKO with Blizzard (252 SpA Abomasnow Blizzard vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Torterra: 648-768 (195.7 - 232%) - guaranteed OHKO), It also has a good set that can support almost any team that makes it very good as a torterra check in this current Metagame.

Cryogonal @ Leftovers
Timid Nature
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 200 Spe / 8 SpA / 52 SpD
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Freeze-Dry
- Hidden Power Fire

Check. It cannot come in on rocks and live a Wood Hammer:

252 Atk Torterra Wood Hammer vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Cryogonal: 300-354 (82.6 - 97.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

But can come in safely and OHKO with Freeze-Dry:

8 SpA Cryogonal Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Torterra: 336-400 (101.5 - 120.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
