PS! Official OU Tournaments

With the arrival of the new generation of OU we would like to introduce Official OU Room Tournaments. These tournaments are hosted on Pokemon Showdown in the OverUsed room at specifically scheduled times, and will be explicitly labelled as official. The purpose of these tournaments is to give exposure to all the new ideas and metagame trends in development in the early days of the meta as well as keep an archive of quality Semifinals and Finals replays. These tournaments will take place on a daily basis, at 10am, 4pm and 10pm EST.

Take advantage of this event as an opportunity to test, chat, and make friends with other OUers as well as become integrated into the community. Players who consistently participate, place well, or just enhance the tournament experience in some way will not go unnoticed as good users, so even if you don't end up winning, simply participating and being a good sport can get you recognised by the room auth. If you need any help or advice, feel free to ask one of our staff members! We also have an abundance of resources in the OU forum for beginners and experienced players alike. The aim of this project is as always, to bring more new users into the folds of our community. We'd love to get to know and help as many of you as we can, and more importantly we want everyone to have fun!

Notable sets
• Rest Talk Hatternee as a counter to Ferro Pex hazard stacking builds
• Nasty Plot Togekiss as a devastating balance breaker
• Red Card Mandibuzz to phase set up sweepers who aren't in dynamax
• The return of Acid Armor Reuniclus + t-spikes , Reuni being infuriatingly difficult to kill when dynamaxed

Semi Finals:

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1012999665

Finals:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1013003702

Notable sets
• Jellicent can check non p-whip Gyara, spread burns, spin-block, and be a decent switchin to Darmanitan
• Chandelure no longer has to worry about Pursuit, and Ghost is currently an extremely potent offensive typing
• Court Change has potential to be one of the most exciting new moves of the generation, with Cinderace being able to force switches and turn an enemy's hazards against them

11/20 4PM (Winner: Cam)
Semi Finals:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1013477439
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1013508290

Finals:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1013511769

Notable sets
• U-turn Corviknight and U-turn Mandibuzz are fantastic pivots into a large portion of the metagame, and their slow u-turn's allow breakers like Damanitan or revenge killers like Ditto to flourish
• Choice Scarf Rotom-W has emerged as a popular choice after the loss of pain split/defog, offering speed control vs Gyarados and utility vs passive mons with Trick

11/20 10PM (Winner: GLOCKED)
Semi Finals:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1013678130
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1013678637

Finals:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1013680186

Notable sets
• Sub Nasty Plot Gengar has a fantastic match up vs fatter teams and, when behind a sub, is "ditto proof" as well
• Taunt hazards Mew can be a great lead for HO teams, due to the prevalence of Ghost types in the tier making it more difficult for Excadrill to spin
• Dragon Dance Kommo-O has great coverage between Close Combat/Thunder Punch/Iron Head
• Conkeldurr has some interesting new toys this generation, now being able to defog on SR users such as TTar and Ferrothorn

11/24 10PM (Winner: Hayburner)
Semi Finals:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1016344369
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1016349093

Finals:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1016351419

Notable sets
• LO Clefable is an amazing breaker as Moonblast/Flamethrower/Tbolt is nearly impossible to switch into
• Sub NP Hydreigon is a monster due to the lack of dark resists in the tier + the loss of Unaware Clefable
• Heavy Duty Boots Rotom-Heat resists all 4 of Darmanitans common moves, while also being able to check some Sand Rush Excadrills, spread status, and gain momentum with Volt Switch
• All hope is not yet lost for Bisharp, as even without Knock Off, the aforementioned lack of dark resists means a boosted Sucker Punch can still sweep through weakened teams
