Here is the current Stat Bias and Rating section of the CAP Process guide. It needs to be restructured and rewritten in places.

 • As a result of [thread=72499]this thread[/thread], the stat bias step is being converted into a combined Stat and Movepool Limit Discussion
 • The new combined step needs to be described
 • All the movepool limit stuff needs to be added (well-formatted tables would be nice)
 • DougJustDoug will need to rename the page in SCMS, but anyone can write it up and format it

[NOPARSE][title]
Stat Bias and Rating
[page]

Stat Bias

This is where we determine the general stat bias of the Pokémon, from an offensive and defensive standpoint. We also will set limits on the stat spreads that support those biases. It should be noted that Stat Biases are not just for limiting stats, but also helps shape the general "feel" of the Pokémon. The Stat Biases may influence other parts of the Pokémon -- such as art, movepool, ability, etc. However, the stat spread is the only part of the project that will be specifically constrained by Stat Biases.

The Stat Biases are not formally voted on by the community. The community will get their "final say" on stats when they vote on actual stat spreads later. This step of the process is where the community voices their opinions and arguments to the Topic Leader. At the end of the discussion thread, a range of Stat Biases will be selected by the TL.

There will be four stat biases selected and a total BSR limit. The Stat Biases are:

Physical Tankiness (PT) - The rating of the Pokémon's physical defense

Physical Sweepiness (PS) - The rating of the Pokémon's physical offense

Special Tankiness (ST) - The rating of the Pokémon's special defense

Special Sweepiness (SS) - The rating of the Pokémon's special offense

An application for calculating the biases can be found here and the formulae themselves can be found here.

For each individual bias, a named range will be specified by the TL. The named ranges are:

Below Average: 0-80

Average: 81-99

Above Average: 100-149

High: 150-Infinity

At the conclusion of that thread, the TL will post range for each bias and BSR and close the thread. After that, the stat spread creators can go to work making spreads that conform to the limits.

Stat Rating

This measure determines the desired overall "power level" of the Pokémon's base stats. In the past, the Base Stat Total (BST) was used to measure the power of base statistics. Since BST is a very poor measurement for stat power, the CAP project now uses Base Stats Rating (BSR) to determine the overall effectiveness of a Pokémon's base stats. The results are more useful and relevant to the relative power of a created Pokémon's stats. The Base Stats Rating is determined by a formula created by X-Act. The TL will choose the BSR range of the Pokémon.

The BSR of a Pokémon is divided into 12 different categories, ranging from the Exaggerated rating of Arceus and other Ubers, to the Horrible rating of Pokémon like Unown, and most baby Pokémon.

Hi. Did this one too. Thanks to Pluff, I was able to figure out a few of the kinks with my code that I had in my last one. This one should be better from the get-go. The only part I added into it was the table about the linkage between BSR and Movepool Size, since that's all that is relevant here. The rest of the conclusions went into the Movepool Submission page.

Introduction

Stat Biasing and the Base Stat Rating of a Pokémon are critical to maintaining the feel of a CAP being a real Pokémon, intrinsically balance the CAP by keeping it within reasonable ranges, and also balance out the movepool stage of the CAP later on.

Stat Biasing

The Stat Bias stage is where the general stat bias of the Pokémon is determined from an offensive and defensive standpoint. Limits are set on the stat spreads that support those biases. It should be noted that Stat Biases are not just for limiting stats, but also helps shape the general "feel" of the Pokémon. The Base Stat Rating directly impacts the size of the total movepool and Very Good Movepool for the CAP, which is relevant later on in the project. The higher the BSR for a CAP, the smaller its allowed total and Very Good Movepool are. The BSR of a Pokémon is divided into 12 different categories, ranging from the exaggerated rating of Arceus and other Ubers to the awful rating of Pokémon like Unown and most baby Pokémon. A better description of these ratings can be found here. For the purposes of the movepool limitations linked to the BSR of Pokemon, only 5 of these categories are available as listed below. More details on what the Very Good Movepool of a Pokemon means can be found here.

Thank you so much for working up a draft, Rising Dusk!

I made several wording and structural changes. I didn't proofread it very carefully, though.

This step sets limits that will apply to the Stat Spread and Movepool of the CAP in later steps. The stats and movepool are very important competitive building blocks of a Pokémon, and this discussion allows the general power level of these two factors to be considered in tandem. It looks pretty good, but I found a few grammatical and convention errors in my proofread over it. I've left a majority of what you have alone because it's great and a huge improvement to what was there before, but I fixed a few things in the version below. After this, it looks ready to upload.

Base Stat Rating & Movepool Limits

The Base Stat Rating measurement determines the desired overall "power level" of the Pokémon's base stats. In the past, the Base Stat Total (BST) was used to measure the power of base statistics. BST is a very poor measurement for stat power, however, so the CAP project now uses Base Stat Rating (BSR) to determine the overall effectiveness of a Pokémon's base stats. The results are more useful and relevant to the relative power of a created Pokémon's stats. The Base Stat Rating is determined by a formula created by X-Act.

The Base Stat Rating directly impacts the size of the total movepool and Very Good Movepool for the CAP, which is relevant later on in the project. The higher the BSR for a CAP, the smaller its allowed Total Movepool Size and Very Good Movepool. The BSR of a Pokémon is divided into 12 different categories, ranging from the exaggerated rating of Arceus and other Ubers to the awful rating of Pokémon like Unown and most baby Pokémon. A better description of these ratings can be found here. For the purposes of the movepool limitations linked to the BSR of Pokémon, only 5 of these categories are available as listed below. More details on what the Very Good Movepool of a Pokémon means can be found here.

At the conclusion of the Stat and Movepool Limits Discussion thread, the Topic Leader will post ranges for Stat Biases, BSR, Total Movepool Size, and Very Good Moves. After that, the thread is closed, and stat spread creators can go to work making spreads that conform to the limits. Movepool will be determined later in the process.

In the second to last paragraph, there is a link to the once "Movepool Submission" page. (The other workshop thread) Make sure when updating the names of these pages that you fix that link before this goes live.

Otherwise, read it over a few times, looks great. Let's get this show on the road!
