[SET COMMENTS]
Porygon is the tier's most effective Choice Scarf user because of its great damage output and coverage moves, which let it effectively clean up weakened teams. Tri Attack is Porygon's strongest choice, while Ice Beam is often most spammable, dealing a chunk of damage to Ferroseed and hitting other neutral targets hard with a Download boost. Both attacks carry a status chance, which sometimes lets Porygon bypass its checks. Thunderbolt is Porygon's best option to hit Pawniard and Frillish. Psychic threatens Mienfoo and Poison-types, OHKOing the former's standard set at +1. Trick is an alternative that trades Porygon's Speed to limit defensive checks like Ferroseed and Frillish in certain matchups.

This set has tremendous synergy with other fast special attackers like Abra, Natu, and Galarian Ponyta by pressuring their shared checks like Pawniard and, in Abra's case, Ferroseed. Mienfoo is an effective partner because it can freely use Knock Off to weaken bulky foes into OHKO range and, with U-turn, can pivot on exploitable Poison-types it lures in like Koffing. Mienfoo also switches into and threatens defensive Porygon checks like Pawniard, Frillish, and the special sponges Ferroseed and Munchlax. Trapinch and Diglett can trap Steel-types and Munchlax, although foe Trapinch and Diglett deter and punish Porygon's Thunderbolt. Grookey can effectively punish Frillish.

[SET COMMENTS]
Agility Porygon trades immediate offense for sweeping prowess. Porygon's bulk allows it to set up against weaker foes like Mareanie and Natu. Eviolite + Recover strengthens this ability, though offensive support is mandatory to cover for the reduced coverage. Ice Beam hits Ferroseed and most of the tier for strong neutral damage while hammering bulky foes like Mudbray and Onix. Psychic cleans through Mienfoo and weakened Poison-types. Berry Juice frees Recover's moveslot for another coverage move, like Thunderbolt, which stops healthy Pawniard and Frillish from preventing a sweep. However, it makes Porygon more vulnerable to Knock Off from Mareanie and strong priority from Grookey. Maximum Speed investment lets Porygon outspeed Choice Scarf Mienfoo and Vulpix after Agility.

This set pairs well with special attackers like Abra, Natu, and Galarian Ponyta, which pressure Pawniard and Ferroseed, and it often relies on them wearing down its checks early- and mid-game. Knock Off users like Mienfoo, Pawniard, and Mareanie can remove Eviolite and bring important targets like Mienfoo and Poison-types into OHKO range. Pawniard, Ferroseed, and Frillish make sweeping difficult by taking Porygon's attacks well. Trapinch and Diglett can weaken or eliminate the Steel-types, while Grookey can make progress against Frillish teams. Diglett can also use Memento to guarantee a safe Agility for Porygon.

[SET COMMENTS]
Trace and great natural bulk allow Porygon to serve as one of the tier's best walls. The choice of coverage move depends on what you prefer to check; Ice Beam hits a wider swath of the tier for neutral damage and hits Diglett and Trapinch super effectively, while Psychic threatens Poison-types. Thunder Wave shuts down would-be threats, almost none of which can OHKO Porygon, including opposing Porygon, Galarian Ponyta, and Abra. Trace lets Porygon shut down Flash Fire Ponyta, switch into Regenerator users like Mareanie and Foongus consistently, and counter-trap Diglett and Trapinch. The given defensive investment lets Porygon take hits from powerful threats like Life Orb Abra, Download Porygon, and Flame Body Ponyta.

This set is a defensive jack-of-all-trades that can soft check many threats. Abra and Ponyta appreciate it counter-trapping Arena Trap users. Both Cosmic Power and Calm Mind Natu appreciate Porygon's ability to spread paralysis, especially against Pawniard. Porygon is vulnerable to Fighting-types like Mienfoo and Timburr and thus partners well with Poison-types like Koffing and Mareanie. Pawniard and other Knock Off users can also limit Porygon's effectiveness, but they fear Thunder Wave and can be pivoted into by Mienfoo or trapped by Trapinch and Diglett.

Shadow Ball hits Psychic-types and Frillish hard while dealing decent damage to Ferroseed. Teleport lets defensive sets use their bulk to safely pivot offensive threats in.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Steel-types like Pawniard, Ferroseed, and Magnemite resist Porygon's best moves and threaten it back with some combination of Knock Off, Thunder Wave, and offensive pressure. Berry Juice Pawniard and Magnemite are especially effective at absorbing hits. However, Pawniard and Ferroseed can be worn down, especially by the right coverage moves and given their lack of reliable recovery, and Magnemite is frail without Berry Juice. All three must be wary of trappers.

**Frillish**: Frillish is immune to Tri Attack, does not fear Ice Beam or Psychic, has tremendous special bulk, and cannot be trapped, giving it an excellent matchup against offensive Porygon. It can be beaten by Thunderbolt, though, if it has lost its Eviolite.

**Munchlax**: Munchlax easily tanks Porygon's attacks, outheals its damage with Recycle and Berry Juice, and threatens it back with Body Slam and Curse. It cannot check Porygon if it loses Berry Juice to Knock Off, though, and Trapinch can remove it.

**Denying Download Boosts**: Often, the most effective way to limit offensive Porygon is by using EV spreads providing higher Special Defense than Defense, which make Download give useless Attack boosts. Several offensive threats such as Abra, Diglett, Ponyta, and Galarian Ponyta do this by default. Though not standard, some bulky Pokemon like Foongus, Ferroseed, and Ponyta can afford such an EV spread to reduce Porygon's effective points of entry.

Tri Attack is Porygon's best STAB move while Ice Beam is often its most spammable choice, dealing a chunk of damage to Ferroseed and hitting neutral targets hard with a Download boost.(I would mention something about status when mentioning these two attacks. They can help Pory bypass its usual checks.) Psychic threatens Mienfoo and Poison-types, OHKOing the former's standard set at +1. Thunderbolt is Porygon's best option to hit Pawniard and Frillish, neither of which fear its other moves. Trick is an alternative that trades Porygon's speed to limit defensive checks like Ferroseed and Frillish in certain matchups.

This set has tremendous synergy with other fast special attackers like Abra, Natu, and Galarian Ponyta by cross-pressuring their shared checks like Pawniard and, in Abra's case, Ferroseed. Mienfoo is an effective partner because it can freely use Knock Off to weaken bulky opponents into OHKO range and, with U-turn, can lure exploitable Poison-types like Koffing. Porygon's threat level is limited by opponents who resist Tri Attack and Ice Beam like Pawniard, Frillish, and Ferroseed, the specially defensive sponge Munchlax, and Arena Trap users, which can deter and punish the use of Thunderbolt. Mienfoo handles all of these defensive Pokemon with its ability to switch in and threaten, and Trapinch and Diglett can trap and eliminate Steel-types and Munchlax. Grookey can effectively punish Frillish. (foes, not opponent; foes = opposing Pokemon, opponent = opposing player)

Tri Attack is its most power STAB move, while Ice Beam hits Ferroseed and most of the tier for strong neutral damage while hammering bulky opponents like Mudbray and Onix. Psychic cleans up Mienfoo and weakened Poison-types. Thunderbolt is an option to hit Pawniard and Frillish hard, both of which otherwise will prevent a sweep if healthy. A set with Eviolite and Recover requires more offensive support to cover for less coverage, but affords Porygon more longevity to switch into opponents like Natu and boost against weaker defenders like Mareanie. Berry Juice frees a moveslot for another coverage move but makes Porygon more vulnerable to Knock Off from Mareanie and to strong priority from Grookey. A Modest nature and maximum speed lets Porygon outspeed Choice Scarf Mienfoo and Vulpix after Agility. (same for foes vs opponents)

This set pairs well with special attackers like Abra, Natu, and Galarian Ponyta which pressure Pawniard and Ferroseed and will often rely on such teammates to wear down its checks in the early and mid game. GP 1/2. [DC, 449990] The information is good but fix the GP errors please for the next QCer.

This looks good to me. Only thing I would mention is that there are several fast and frail Pokemon that would be natural entry points for Porygon that deny it a Download boost with their natural stat distribution (namely Abra, Diglett, and both Ponyta formes). 2/2, [gali, 107567]

It loses its ability to check Porygon if it loses its Berry Juice to Knock Off, though, and it can be trapped by Trapinch. Trapinch can trap and remove it.

**Denying Download Boosts**: Often, the most effective way to limit offensive Porygon is by investing in higher Special Defense than Defense to block its Download boosts. using EV spreads providing higher Special Defense than Defense, which makes Download give useless Attack boosts. Several offensive threats such as Abra, Diglett, Ponyta, and Galarian Ponyta do this by default. Though not standard, some bulky Pokemon like Foongus, Ferroseed, and Ponyta can afford such an EV spread to reduce Porygon's effective points of entry.

Implemented, though I'm not sure what you meant with the edit to the first sentence of Agility Porygon - "Agility Porygon trades immediate offense for sweeping with Download and its offensive and defensive prowess." I'm not sure "defensive prowess" really describes what it does, especially when Berry Juice is a slash on the set. Feel free to disagree and I'll fix.

with your original phrasing of "and it can often win games with a Download boost and the right coverage moves", my expectation was the set was originally berry juice 3 attacks as first slash, and i was looking for the counterpart to that original phrasing that applied to the now-primary eviolite+recover set. from there, the idea was eviolite+recover helped it setup to sweep, tho i can see how the phrasing i used could give the wrong idea and imply an overly big role for eviolite+recover beyond easing setup. what you did works great.

Both attacks carry a status chance, which sometimes lets Porygon bypass its typical checks. Thunderbolt is Porygon's best option to hit Pawniard and Frillish, neither of which fears its other moves.

Mienfoo also switches into and threatens defensive Porygon checks like Pawniard, (comma) Frillish, and Frillish, which resist Normal and Ice, and the special sponges Ferroseed and Munchlax. Trapinch and Diglett can trap and eliminate Steel-types and Munchlax, although foe Trapinch and Diglett deter and punish Porygon's Thunderbolt. Grookey can effectively punish Frillish.

move 4: Recover / Psychic / Thunderbolt

[SET COMMENTS]
Agility Porygon trades immediate offense for sweeping prowess. Porygon's bulk allows it to set up against weaker foes like Mareanie and Natu. Eviolite + Recover strengthens this ability, though they do mandate offensive support is mandatory to cover for the reduced coverage. (eviolite doesn't impact coverage, so 'they' is shaky) Ice Beam hits Ferroseed and most of the tier for strong neutral damage while hammering bulky foes like Mudbray and Onix. Psychic cleans through Mienfoo and weakened Poison-types. Berry Juice frees a Recover's moveslot for another coverage move, like Thunderbolt, which stops healthy Pawniard and Frillish from preventing a sweep.

Knock Off users like Mienfoo, Pawniard, and Mareanie can remove Eviolite and bring important targets like Mienfoo and opposing Poison-types into OHKO range. Pawniard, Ferroseed, and Frillish all make sweeping difficult by taking Porygon's attacks well. Trapinch and Diglett can weaken or eliminate the Steel-types, while Grookey can make progress against Frillish teams. Diglett can also use Memento to guarantee a safe Agility for Porygon.

[SET]
name: Defensive
move 1: Tri Attack
move 2: Ice Beam / Psychic
move 3: Thunder Wave
move 4: Recover
item: Eviolite
ability: Trace
nature: Calm
evs: 156 HP / 196 Def / 156 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Trace and great natural bulk allow Porygon to serve as one of the tier's best walls. The choice of coverage move depends on what you prefer to check; Ice Beam hits a wider swath of the tier for neutral damage and hits Diglett and Trapinch super effectively, while Psychic threatens Poison-types. Thunder Wave shuts down would-be threats, almost none of which can OHKO Porygon, including opposing Porygon, Galarian Ponyta, and Abra. Trace lets Porygon completely shut down Flash Fire Ponyta, switch into Regenerator users like Mareanie and Foongus consistently, and counter-trap Diglett and Trapinch. The given defensive investment lets Porygon take hits from high-powered powerful threats like Life Orb Abra, Download Porygon, and Flame Body Ponyta.

This set is a defensive jack-of-all-trades defensively that can soft check many threats. Abra and Ponyta appreciate it counter-trapping Arena Trap users. Both Cosmic Power and Calm Mind Natu appreciate Porygon's ability to spread paralysis, especially against Pawniard. Porygon is vulnerable to Fighting-types like Mienfoo and Timburr and thus partners well with Poison-types like Koffing and Mareanie that can take hits from them. Pawniard and other Knock Off users can also limit Porygon's effectiveness, but they fear Thunder Wave and can be pivoted into by Mienfoo or trapped by Trapinch and Diglett.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Shadow Ball is an alternative coverage option that hits Psychic-types and Frillish hard while dealing decent damage to Ferroseed. Teleport lets defensive sets use their bulk to safely pivot offensive threats in.

Checks and Counters
===================

It loses its ability to cannot check Porygon if it loses its Berry Juice to Knock Off, though, and Trapinch can trap and remove it.
