Hello and welcome to the next...

Monthly Spotlight Ladder!

The Monthly Spotlight Ladder's purpose is simple: to give formats that would not otherwise have one a chance to be played on a wider scale. Each month, four options will be given, and the winner after a week of voting will have its own ladder for a month!

YOU MAY VOTE FOR MULTIPLE FORMATS!

Information and Schedule for Pokemon-Of-The-Day:
Pokemon-Of-The-Day is an old, dummied out feature of Pokemon Showdown of yore, where a specific Pokemon generates on EVERY SINGLE TEAM. The way this will work here, is that a schedule will be provided of one randomly-generated Pokemon each day (server time), and on any given day, every game in this spotlight ladder will include the scheduled Pokemon of the Day on both sides. How will you fare knowing 1/6 of every team? The schedule is below.

1: Hoopa 2: Groudon 3: Dachsbun 4: Squawkabilly 5: Cacturne 6: Typhlosion 7: Jolteon
8: Masquerain 9: Falinks 10: Wyrdeer 11: Gardevoir 12: Decidueye 13: Hawlucha 14: Azelf
15: Gothitelle 16: Donphan 17: Pikachu 18: Zacian-Crowned 19: Quagsire 20: Uxie 21: Dondozo
22: Orthworm 23: Klawf 24: Dunsparce 25: Avalugg 26: Pawmot 27: Qwilfish 28: Lilligant-Hisui

!IMPORTANT! New Ladder Contest Information

Each month, in addition to the Spotlight ladder, the Random Battles room will host a contest to see who can get the highest ELO across the month! To participate, please post screenshots of your highest ladder peak in the Ladder Peaks thread! Whoever has obtained the highest ladder peak of all time at the end of the month wins! The winner will obtain Room Prize Winner (^) rank for one month and get to choose a format for the next available Monthly Spotlight voting!

Rules and additional details:
- Ladder peaks posted in this thread will not be counted. Please post them in the other thread that will be out when the ladder is released. Additional rules on the ladder contest are in its respective thread.
- When selecting a format to vote on as the winner, you will have a wide array of options, from modded variants of ladders that already exist, to formats that are challenge-only, to formats that don't exist at all! However, these are subject to coding limitations, and formats that have recently been a monthly spotlight cannot be voted on again for several months.
- This thread is open for discussion. Stay cordial, follow all site rules.
- Only votes in the poll above will count. Please do not type your vote out in a reply.

Hello all! Today I will be rating the first 14 out of the 28 pokemon appearing in this month's spotlight format based on how interesting, fun or competitive their respective days will be for the format. The following pokemon in chronological order are:
Hoopa, Groudon, Dachsbun, Squawkabilly, Cacturne, Typhlosion, Jolteon, Masquerain, Falinks, Wyrdeer, Gardevoir, Decidueye, Hawlucha, Azelf

Anyways, let's start it off with one the most influential pokemon in Random Battles history:
:Hoopa: This pokemon is very interesting when it comes to Team Tournaments, but when it comes to this Spotlight format, Hoopa vs Hoopa will just be a speedtie to see who drops quicker to Shadow Ball. It still provides a necessary Normal immunity that may come in handy sometimes. Games will tend to be quick due to Hoopa's offensive prowess at least, but nothing too interesting. C+

:Groudon: Getting the sun up every game? This is a super fun one, Fire types are going to be cooking everything with Groudon's sun. Chlorophyll users can also be generated more often so that'll be exciting for mons like :Leafeon: and :Sunflora:. This already happened i must say it was super fun! S

:Dachsbun: Funny how we went from Fire types being able to cook absolutely everything to now not being able to use their fire-moves at all when this cute little doggo is in town for the day. The oven turned off pretty quickly. Even though Dachsbun invalidates most fire types, it still isn't as fun as the destruction that Groudon can bring to the table, but it can provide ever needed wish support for teams allowing for some longer games to occur. A-

:Squawkabilly: Fun breaker with guts, will speed up games and stop some choiced ground types as well as ghost types from their doing their thing. Looking at :Houndstone: and :Basculegion: specifically... Imporant to have these immunities as well as breaking power too. A-

:Cacturne: We might end up following a common theme here which is that we'll get a lot of type immunities coming from the abilities of some mons. Water is a really common attacking type right now so it's going to invalidate many mons while also forcing many Sucker Punch mindgames vs sweepers. It'll overall be really prediction heavy when Cacturne is in. A+

:Typhlosion: This is gonna be a bit of a joke since each Typhlosion will just cancel out the other,Doesn't actually lead to very interesting gameplay if only one Typhlosion has to take Stealth Rocks every game either . B+

:Jolteon: Very similiar to Typhlosion's day, but Jolteon isn't actually forced to be choiced like how it was in earlier generations due to its new move Calm Mind. It can also use Tera Blast Ice to break through the other Jolteon. However, every Jolteon won't be getting Tera Blast so could be problematic if you get the Specs set instead, even though it would hit the other Jolteon quite hard with a Shadow Ball or Hyper Voice. B

:Masquerain: Luckily for us, Masquerain has 2 sets, one of which doesn't have Sticky Webs. But now that I think about it, this might just lead to tons of bad matchups where one player gets webs and the other one doesn't, or one player gets tons of pokemon that are in the air or wearing some :Heavy Duty Boots:. C+

:Falinks: Not really anything special going on with this mon, hits hard with Close Combat and can setup sometimes. Still gonna be fun to have 22 pokemon battle eachother every battle (maybe more if you get :Maushold:) C

:Wyrdeer: This pokemon just kind of exists? it's a ghost resist and has intimidate, whilst also getting :Assault Vest: fairly commonly. When you think about it, it does sound like it can stop both physical sweeps with Intimidate and special sweeps with AV, Should hopefully make for some fun games that require more planning if you wanna get past Wyrdeer. A-

:Gardevoir: Having a pokemon with Trace running around all the time could make for many interesting and funny situations. Also has a dragon immunity and a lot of variability in its movepool so every battle shouldn't be the same as the last one. S-

:Decidueye: This pokemon has defog in one of its 2 sets, whilst the other is a setup sweeper with Swords Dance. Seeing how many pokemon have hazards this generation, its going to be nice to see Defog be more common for this day. A-

:Hawlucha: No, this will not be fun at all, games may just end up with who activates their Unburden Hawlucha faster. Matches could be interesting if you know that you always have to play around Hawlucha to not let it setup and sweep your whole squad. But if you have a counter to it and your opponent does not, this won't really be that interesting. D

:Azelf: Very fun and fast pokemon which either can get rocks up and boom, setup with Nasty Plot or terrorize the format when it's getting :Choice Specs:. Azelf has a lot of variety to it, but it also check itself if the other Azelf is forced into Choice Specs Psychic. Still, this pokemon doesn't really do much other than always providing solid speed control vs the rest of the format. B

What's fun about this format is that some may like having crazy sweepers like Hawlucha appear every game. Or maybe one of your favourite pokemon is in here too... I myself look forward to the :Cacturne: (5 Feb) and :Gardevoir: (11 Feb) days the most as you can see by the rankings i gave them. Should be tons of fun! And here are the other half of the pokemon if you didn't already know: Gothitelle, Donphan, Pikachu, Zacian-Crowned, Quagsire, Uxie, Dondozo, Orthworm, Klawf, Dunsparce, Avalugg, Pawmot, Qwilfish, Lilligant-Hisui. Couldn't be bothered to rank them all too.
