Introduction
Welcome to the Generation 9 Pet Mods subforum!

This is the place to contribute to Pet Mods, which are similar to Other Metagames in how they change how you play the game. The big difference is that Other Metagames have one rule applied to the whole game without changing any specific mechanics, like "every Pokemon gets every move of its type," while Pet Mods have more specific changes, like giving a bunch of Pokemon new and unique abilities that don't exist in the main series. Pet Mods also tend to be way more community-centered than Other Metagames, with anyone being able to submit changes or additions to a Pet Mod.

There's also a group of Pet Mods called Solomods. There are some specific ideas that don't quite fit as Other Metagames or Pet Mods, like where in-game mechanics need to be changed to fit the "one rule" Other Metagames typically need or having specific changes like Pet Mods without the community focus. That would typically describe what a Solomod is. If you're ever unsure of what your idea may be counted as, you're free to post about it in the Workshop or message one of the staff!

This community is very laid-back, but you still do need to follow the rules! Failing to do so will still lead to punishment.

What to do when you're new
Number one suggestion if you're new - make sure you look around for a while before posting! Try to make sure you understand the basics of Pet Mods and just Smogon in general. If you're looking to post something, make sure you check other posts in a given thread, especially the more recent ones. Would it fit right in with those? Please make sure you don't post any messages that are one sentence long or don't really add to any discussion. If anything here doesn't make sense, you're free to ask one of the community's staff members (AquaticPanic, zxgzxg, Scoopapa, Yoshiblaze) if you're ever unsure about something.

Think you're ready to submit a Pet Mod? Make sure you've made at least 15 posts in any Gen 8 or Gen 9 Pet Mods threads, then check out the Pet Mods submissions thread. If you're unsure about an idea, or if you just want help with anything relating to Pet Mods, then there's a few places you can check out. This community has a Pokemon Showdown Room, the Pet Mods Discord, or for new Pet Mods entirely, the Pet Mods Workshop Thread. Community feedback is important here, so make sure you use those if you're even slightly unsure about something!

If you're looking to play a Pet Mod, there's a few places. There's a Pokemon Showdown server with practically every playable Pet Mod, but if you're looking to play on the main server, there will be a handful that are playable there as well under the "Pet Mods" section. There are also semi-frequent tournaments within their own threads on this subforum, so be sure to look out for those!

Rules:

- Don't treat the forum like a chatroom

People will not be constantly looking at or posting in each forum thread, so please don't spam a thread hoping it will result in a quicker response. Try your best to use less informal language and try to contribute to an ongoing discussion if possible. Also, please don't stray too far off the topic of the thread. If you want to talk about things unrelated to Pet Mods with this community, please use the Pet Mods Discord server.

- Follow the rules outlined in each Pet Mod's opening post
Each individual thread here has its own rules that need to be followed. There aren't too many, but make sure you fully read the first post of each thread so you aren't breaking a thread's guidelines.

- Do not bump posts or threads
Basically, don't post in any inactive threads, bring attention to a post you made earlier, or bring back any discussion that died out a while ago. Typically in cases like this it's better to try and bring back discussion through the aforementioned Discord or somewhere similar. If a Pet Mod is inactive and you want to run it despite the original thread not being yours, please message one of the community's staff members to see if they're okay with you running a new version of it.

- Don't respond to threads that you know are going to get locked
Whether it's from a troll, spambot, or something as harmless as a new user who hasn't been paying attention to the forum's rules, don't post there. Trolls will get the gratification they want, spambots will know you saw their thread, and in general wrong ideas or information can just get spread around whether you mean for it to or not. It'd be best for you to quietly tell a staff member so they can handle it.

- Don't bash someone else's work
There's a clear line between criticism and insults. If you disagree with something someone says or dislike an idea someone has, explain why. Try to exchange knowledge in some way rather than dragging other people down. Even the smaller things people do here can take a lot of time and effort, so please be courteous.

Make sure you follow the global Smogon rules as well. Failing to follow any of those rules or any of the ones in this thread may result in infraction.

If you have any questions about the rules or the subforum in general, feel free to ask AquaticPanic, zxgzxg, Scoopapa, or Yoshiblaze. If you have any questions about a specific Pet Mod, you're free to ask the person who created the thread as well.

That's about it! Hope you enjoy the Pet Mods subforum!
