:Landorus-Therian: Landorus-Therian
:Heatran: Heatran

A lot of people maybe wouldn't have put Heatran here because of its lack of recovery and susceptibility to rocks and spikes damage but I think its strengths definitely push it into this rank. Magma Storm trapping sets might be the strongest offensive force against fat teams right now, especially since most mons that can take on magma storm + taunt don't deal with taking a toxic. It's also a fantastic rocker because of its favorable matchup vs the majority of common defoggers (corviknight, mandibuzz, tornadus, zapdos all can't come in it, neither can spin drill). It unfortunately can't run toxic and taunt on stealth rock sets but it can run both and become an even stronger offensive presence if another teammates frees up that stealth rock slot. Also, despite not being able to recover outside leftovers heatran just somehow always finds ways to remain relatively healthy long-term without hesitating to come in on the action.

S-

:Dragapult: Dragapult

I ended up deciding on S- here because I felt like Dragapult was too good for A+ but not quite good enough for S. This mon brings excellent speed control to any team, has an excellent defensive typing that gives it decent pseudo-bulk despite its poor defensive stats, and can bring multiple things to the table on teams. As an offensive status spreading pivot it can be extremely annoying for offensive teams to deal with due to the thread of will o wisp or thunder wave, along with a deceptively potent offensive stab combination. Specs sets have a decent degree of versatility in the move slots and also can be extremely threatening for offensive teams to deal with. Toxapex/Blissey/Clefable type balance or stall builds can make dragapult have a hard time initially making progress, but it also has a fairly easy time getting status on toxapex and clef and u-turning out on Blisseys switching in. The only notable mon that naturally outspeeds dragapult is zeraora, but zera cant OHKO with knock and risks taking a wisp in return, severely compromising zera's effectiveness (of course it does hinder pult a lot as well, so it must be evaluated if the trade is worth taking).

A+

:Ferrothorn: Ferrothorn
:Garchomp: Garchomp
:Tornadus-Therian: Tornadus-Therian
:Tapu Lele: Tapu Lele

Tapu lele is the only one here that isn't A+ in the actual vr. I think it is definitely one of the most potent wallbreakers in the tier that can't be switched in on at all if it predicts correctly. You could make the argument that its prediction reliance makes it belong more in A but I would counterargue that it is extremely rare for a prediction reliant mon to have a way to severely punish virtually every single switch in possible. It has a middling speed tier as well but I think that is more just what stops it from being outright broken.

A

:Toxapex: Toxapex
:Tapu Koko: Tapu Koko
:Corviknight: Corviknight
:Rillaboom: Rillaboom
:Slowking: Slowking
:Kartana: Kartana

I put pex in A tier but I still think it's a top 10 mon in the tier, I just don't think it is by any means unbreakable because it doesnt really hard counter any of the offensive A tier mon, although it can still be a significant annoyance to a lot of them. Other than pex I don't see a need to justify any other picks here, they are all strong metagame shaping presences that should make sort of contribution in the majority of games, but they don't quite have the ceiling and/or the consistency of the mons in A+.

A-

:Hydreigon: Hydreigon
:Slowbro: Slowbro
:Zapdos: Zapdos
:Kyurem: Kyurem
:Zeraora: Zeraora
:Hippowdon: Hippowdon
:Mandibuzz: Mandibuzz
:Tapu Fini: Tapu Fini
:Nidoking: Nidoking
:Blissey: Blissey
:Latios: Latios
:Clefable: Clefable
:Slowking-Galar: Slowking-Galar

These mons are all strong and have well-defined niches, but generally can't force progress as effectively as the mons in A and won't necessarily be a strong presence in every single matchup. Hydreigon and Latios are both great offensive breakers but I find they get worn down fairly easily due to life orb and stealth rock chip, and their mediocre defensive typings and stats. Their u-turn weaknesses and latios' knock off weakness also makes it harder for them find opportunities to come in. Zapdos in A- instead of A might be controversial but I find that it is extremely easy to get a knock off off on zapdos and then its defensive capabilities get severely reduced. Edit: Forgot to mention that Latios can run trick sets as well, and that can be a great option but it is also dependent on timing the trick correctly.

B+

:Excadrill: Excadrill
:Tyranitar: Tyranitar
:Urshifu-Rapid-Strike:Urshifu-Rapid-Strike
:Crawdaunt: Crawdaunt
:Volcarona: Volcarona
:Magnezone: Magnezone
:Skarmory: Skarmory
:Dragonite: Dragonite

I think all of these mons are quite viable but I don't view any of them as having a significant role in shaping the metagame (except maybe excadrill, but it struggles offensively in many matchups), which is what should be used to separate the A tiered from the B tier mons.

:Blaziken: Blaziken
:Tapu Bulu: Tapu Bulu
:Gastrodon: Gastrodon
:Volcanion: Volcanion
:Thundurus-Therian:Thundurus-Therian

These mons all fit nicely on certain team styles and can be very strong in some matchups but they are generally held back by some notable flaws (such as regieleki struggling to make any progress while electric immunes are alive and Blaziken having severe 4MSS), have a somewhat narrow niche or are dependent on team support to function. Volcanion is the one that made the biggest jump up from the actual vr, being in C rank there. I moved it up because of how potent of a breaker the specs set is on rain, but didn't place it higher because its potency all but disappears on non-rain teams on other team styles and it has to deal with a crippling stealth rock weakness.

This tier is where we're starting to get into the more niche category of mons. I wouldn't call any of these bad or unviable but they are awkward to fit onto teams and generally don't have the widest spread of favourable matchups against common cores and styles.

I won't keep ranking into the C tier because I am not familiar enough with most of the uncommon niche mons to rank them accurately.

It’s been since the Mosa ban I made a vr, so here’s my updated OU VR.

These two are the most defining mons in their respective metagames, with Torn especially causing players to run Slowking + Speed Control on most teams. Tran is an easily splashable breaker/rocker that will always force progress throughout a game. They are both incredibly difficult to deal with defensively and easily splashable. Both these mons have had high usage and high win-rates all throughout SPL, a testament to their meta defining presence.

4/5 of these mons are all-star mons in the best team archetype in SS OU as of now. Voltturn. Corv is a solid check to Kyurem, Lele, Lando, and Chomp that provides constant defog support and slow U-Turns. Pult is an excellent form of speed control, a pivot, and a wincon if you couldn’t tell from it being the No. 2 most used mon in the ladder. Kyurem doesn’t have any pivoting moves (unless Eject Pack Draco err something), but it’s a stupidly strong breaker that requires all teams to prep for it, or get absolutely demolished on the spot, plus it can fit on voltturn styles. Slowking has dethroned it’s Galarian counterpart and Slowbro. Slowking can survive any hit at full from the special-attacking laced metagame. Being able to force progress with FS and allow it’s teammates to rkill dangerous breakers in phenomenal. Koko is the best Torn counter in the game while being strong offensively as well.

SpD Hippo checks the big electric types and has enough special bulk to tank a Specs Psychic from Lele or Hex from Pult and land Toxics. Kart is an excellent breaker that can always find a way to force progress from strong Leaf Blades or Knock Offs. Fini was mostly unnoticed for most of Mag/Ace meta, but I believe it got better. Checking two of the most dangerous threats like Tran and Heatran while being a good wincon or form of speed control with it’s Scarf set is valuable rn. Pex is amazing and still really fucking hard to kill, but it doesn’t any major reason to use it over the Slowtwins, or even Fini since its mu Shifu/Ace/Mag was incredibly valuable. Honestly you can’t go wrong with slapping Zeraora on your team due the amount of utility it provides. It stupefies my by how well it checks nearly the whole offensive roster. Difficult to stop it from making progress due to Knock Off and Volt Switch constantly crippling the team.

Dnite has proven successful from its winrate during SPL alone. Utility sets are excellent for checking Tran, Rilla, Zeraora, etc and DD sets are underrated at sweeping in the late game. Most of the tiers best breakers appreciate the removal of the steel birbs and Ferro which is something Ferro excels at. Specs sets are difficult to safely switch into without taking heavy chip. Scizor is starting to return to it’s former OU glory as one of the best checks to Kyurem in the tier while functioning as either a pivot or wincon. Tang is awkward to switch into, and checks nearly the whole physically offensive metagame. Weavile went from an obscure pick to one of the tier’s best forms of speed control following Crown Tundra. Weavile 2HKOs or checks nearly all of the top 25-30 mons in the tier which shows how anti-meta this mon is. Melmetal benefits from less Pex/Bro usage, giving it more opportunities to crack defensive cores open. With how popular Voltturn has become since Ace/Mag meta, Melm can replace Mag’s role as a steel type breaker. It’s still a bit prediction reliant, but it can be salvaged with team support.

-Blissey and Glowking were both the premier special walls while Spectrier and Magearna were in the tier, however those two mons got banned and affected their viability imo. Most of the special attackers in the tier can exploit them in some way, especially stuff like Koko. Not to mention most of these mons are paired with rising threats like Bisharp and Scizor. Slowking has p much taken their place due to having Port like Blissey, and FS + Regen like Glowking, except it doesn’t mind losing it’s item as much.

-Washtom is back but is a little different. Instead of acting as a strong physically defensive pivot like in Gens 6-7, it’s opting for more SpD like in Gen 5 to check NP Torn, Tran, and Twave Hex Pult. Not to mention it can fulfill different roles from status spreader, pivot, ground immunity, and bulky water. It is awkward to switch into and is an excellent pick in Voltturn teams. Pert provides teams with electric immunity/slow pivot/rocker. We've seen experimentation with it by focusing on the pivoting aspect while acting as a long term answer to Zera/Koko with a Resttalk set, as seen in SPL. Bulu is a solid alt to Rilla as it has better coverage + a better mu from Chomp, Tran, and fatter teams. Victini has recently bloomed in SPL with either Scarf, Band, or Boots which highlights Victini’s untapped versatility. Hence why B+ makes more sense for it.

-It’s hard to justify using Ttar as much in this metagame. Hippo fairs better vs the metagame and it’s not a good Pult answer considering it hates Wisp and U-Turn. It has a good mu vs Kyu and Hydrei which is something worth noting, and CB sets have very few good switch ins.

-Bisharp has popped up recently as more than a niche pick on HO teams as shown by John W and Separation during Week 8 of SPL where they brought a CB Bisharp which functions as both a breaker and a Weavile or Pult check. Knock Off + Iron Head is difficult to safely switch into, and it pressures Defoggers constantly which keeps the opponent in a lose/lose situation. RS Shifu is heavily support reliant, but when fit on the right support (FS and Spikes), it can tear down defensive cores. It’s a great check to Tran, Weavile, Scizor, Landorus, and Bisharp. Slowking has taken over as the premier bulky water which it can U-Turn on and 2HKO with Surging Strike.

-People might hate me for this but I think Daunt is struggling in the current metagame as much as I love using it. Weavile and Bisharp are giving it rough competition, most of the offensive metagame can check it. It’s still hard asf to switch into and it still has a great mu vs HO and Balance, but it doesn’t have much defensive utility like Bisharp or the sheer speed of Weavile. Goltres and Regieleki only really fit on HO teams and they have replaceable roles. Suicune requires way too much support to make it’s sweep worth it. Easy to cripple with sand, spikes, and status and faces competition from Fini which has a better defensive typing and Misty Terrain to deal with status.

-Rachi is an underrated option rn as it can check the most prominent special breakers in the tier while having a massive support movepool to work with. It can setup rocks, spread status, pivot, wishpass, act as speed control, or even be a CM sweeper with Sub-CM + Boltbeam coverage. Mamo is a bulkier, harder hitting but slower Weavile. Unlike Weavile, Mamo has more opportunities to break thanks to its bulk and fairs better vs rocks. Ice/Dark is only resisted by Fini and Shifu, but Ice/Ground has no resistances in the meta other than the two Rotom forms which don’t like losing their items to Knock. Speaking of, Heattom is criminally underrated in a metagame where Sub-Roost Kyurem, Koko, Melm, Torn, Scizor, and SpD Tran are absolute menaces in the metagame. Guess what? Heattom completely stone walls Sub-Roost Kyurem while being able to setup and spread status. The only mon that can do both is Scizor which can’t break past Pex or Zapdos, nor can it spread status. Please try out Heattom if possible.

Note: Might give updates or reasonings behind these rankings later on

Making an updated one now to reflect the modern-day meta, featuring the laundry list of hot takes I'll be infamous for.

All of these are ordered, and my top 15 will each receive an explanation.

S-Rank:
My definition of the S-rank is a lot more liberal than what is used for the mainline Viability Rankings. I generally define the S-rank threats as the most unique, diverse, and metagame-defining forces in the tier. As such, this S-rank section will include a lot more mons than what you'd expect, as I tend to use the more liberal, old-gens approach to it.

:landorus-therian:

This is the best mon in OU. It is not broken, but it can fulfill several roles and compresses several more. Scarf and Defensive are two meta-defining sets that each define OU in some way.

:Garchomp:

Debatably the second-biggest threat in OU, Garchomp does much of what Landorus-Therian does in terms of defining what it means to be a Ground-type in OU. Any Ground-type in OU needs to be able to stand out from this guy and Landorus-Therian to prove its worth in OU. Its Swords Dance sets are among the most oppressive breakers and potential sweepers in OU and must be respected and accounted for at all times.

:dragapult:

Dragapult is the tier's overall best form of Speed control and has a wide array of powerful, disruptive sets. The Pivot set disrupts teams in a unique manner while the Specs set breaks and cleans alike. Dragapult is back in business after a relatively tame start to DLC2 and is probably better than ever to boot.

:heatran:
Heatran is a great Rocker that utterly demolishes most Defoggers. It is very difficult to switch in against even by would-be checks and has the ever-incredible defensive profile Heatran's always been known for. Heatran is among the most definitive mons in the OU tier and in my opinion deserves to be among the S-rank threats as a result.

:tornadus-therian:

The tier's best Defogger, period. It is also an extremely powerful wallbreaker with an expansive movepool and the tools to abuse it. It combines a great typing with a great movepool and a fantastic ability and stat distribution to truly excel in this tier.

A-Rank:
These are the top-tier mons that aren't the Big Five of the OverUsed Meta. They range from great picks to the excellent picks that don't quite have the splashability to fit into the S-rank.

A+
:toxapex:

You know what Pex is, and you know what Pex does. Toxapex is among the most centralizing threats in the OverUsed tier for good reason. It is an extremely bulky mon with an excellent typing, an absurd ability, and the movepool to perfectly play into its niche of being a defensive mon that can disrupt the hell out of an opposing team. Unlike most defensive mons, it is also among the few to boast having absolutely no safe switchins at this time: nothing that can actually threaten to KO Toxapex can safely switch in against a Toxic (or Toxic Spikes being down), a Scald Burn, or a Knock Off. Toxapex ironically happened to become one of the hardest threats to switch into safely despite not doing any noteworthy immediate damage, and is in my opinion the best mon to not be among the S-ranks.

:rillaboom:

Rillaboom is the tier's de-facto offensive staple. Its Grassy Glide is almost without question the most influential single attack in the entirety of OU as of this time and is the reason why so many archetypes can either thrive or falter. It is among the tier's premiere breakers and revenge killers with a Choice Band, and is one of the most ferocious setup sweepers HO can possibly run with a Life Orb and Swords Dance. Rillaboom is not a top 5 mon, in my opinion, but it easily one of the tier's three most centralizing.

:clefable:

While not the queen who reigns over the OU tier like she did in the DLC1 and Home metagames, Clefable is still a versatile and excellent threat that sees plenty of usage across many different archetypes. Some sets are phenomenal win conditions with Calm Mind; other sets are more focused on enabling its teammates. But no matter what, Clefable can provide something for a team that isn't Hyper Offense and it will generally excel as a result.

:kyurem:

This will be my first truly controversial pick, but I think Kyurem is an extraordinarily dangerous threat in this metagame and that its usage or its present status as a UU staple doesn't even begin to describe just how oppressive of a force it truly is. Few mons can safely stomach repeated hits from its Specs-boosted Ice Beam, and fewer yet can sponge its powerful coverage options. Ice STAB is extremely safe in this tier and most mons that can eat multiple back-to-back Ice Beams or Freeze-Dries are playing a dangerous game against its Freeze chance, which can enable it to spam Ice Beam even more. SubRoost is still phenomenal as a Balance breaker, and I'd even go so far as to argue that its Dragon Dance sets have some serious potential. But even if these sets didn't exist, I firmly believe Specs is so unbelievably strong and efficient that it would rank this highly in my opinion regardless.

:ferrothorn:

Ferrothorn is Ferrothorn. It's infuriating to switch in against and it is one of the the tier's only users of Spikes that sees any sort of usage in tournament play or on the higher rungs of the Showdown ladder. Spikes are absurd in this metagame and Ferrothorn offers much more than being a glorified Spikes bot to boot.

:slowking:

A Slow-twin will always be one of the defining members of this generation's OU metagame; currently, Slowking fits that bill a bit better than Slowbro as it's able to use its far superior special bulk to blank the tier's deadliest special attackers while still being good enough at eating up a hit or two from physical attackers. Future Sight is still good, Teleport is still phenomenal, and Slowking as a whole offers teams a lot.

:corviknight:

Bulky Defogger with a great typing. This is frequently a team's only true answer to the extremely centralizing Rillaboom, is great at PP Stalling the opposition if needs must, and offers a great defensive profile alongside fantastic mixed bulk and a slow U-Turn that establish Corviknight as among the tier's better mons. Sub+Bulk Up is also an unorthodox but devastating late-game win condition.

A

:hydreigon:

Nasty Plot or 3-Attacks Hydreigon are both extremely good, powerful breakers that can rip gaping holes in an opponent's team. Spectrier's semi-recent ban allowed Hydreigon to greatly diversify its options and is now one of the tier's best wallbreakers with its powerful setup, great offensive typing, and fantastic coverage paired with its great longevity.

:zapdos:

Another great Rillaboom answer and a great defensive staple of the tier. Its Static ability is unique in this tier and can punish all the stray U-Turns flying around very easily. Zapdos is by no means passive as it has a great offensive movepool and access to Toxic and can be a fantastic Defogger as well. Offensive Rain variants are a bit less amazing, of course, but on that archetype Zapdos is unparalleled though it is more dependent on the weather than most mons in that sense.

:zeraora:

The one actually good mon that's always faster than Dragapult, Zeraora offers teams a lot of role compression as a pivot with a disgustingly good movepool and a powerful Electric STAB as well as an Electric immunity on its own. Zeraora is not quite as amazing as Dragapult, but it's a phenomenal offensive pivot all the same.

Rain is alright. Not great, but not terrible. All four of these mons are excellent, central pieces of Rain and if Zapdos only had its offensive set I'd put it here too.

:grimmsnarl:

Best Screens setter in OU, imo, outside of maybe Screens Koko. It blanks Dragapult and makes Hydreigon run for its life and this is a very unique niche for a Screens setter, so I think it deserves to be quite highly ranked.

:slowbro-galar:

Skillbro is another stupid Screens-abusing mon except this one has a 44% chance to blatantly cheat when you're fighting it. This thing has a very real chance of 6-0ing any team without extremely strong priority that it doesn't resist (so you can rule out Rilla's Grassy Glide unless it's severely chipped) if it safely gets off a Belly Drum behind Screens. It's the least-consistent thing on the planet, but 44% of the time it sweeps your team 100% of the time.

:suicune:

:rotom-wash:

:thundurus-therian:

:moltres-galar:

This mon is very niche and only fits on specific HOs, but it offers such a unique defensive profile and appreciates Magearna not being a thing anymore so much that I think it is a borderline-staple of Screens teams. Criminally underrated mon that I think deserves to be used some more.

C-Rank:
Niche stuff or stuff that's just very fringe. Order hardly matters here and I didn't make any subranks here because I don't think highly of most of these things.

:torkoal:, :venusaur:, and :charizard:

Sun isn't what it once was, but this trio is still so unbelievably strong when supported properly that I firmly believe all three of them deserve to be ranked at the top of the C-rank.

:latias:

:seismitoad:

:ninetales-alola:

:nidoqueen:

This thing loses out on Nidoking's essential Speed tier so it doesn't need to worry as much about investing into it. It can run Modest and dump EVs into its bulk to be a slower, stronger, and slightly tankier Nidoking, which is my opinion deserves some level of merit. Cannot run Focus Punch as viably as the King can, though.

Very fringe Screens setter but having access to Yawn+Mean Look gives it an EXTREMELY unique niche compared to other Screens setters. It unfortunately gets shafted by Taunt, though.

Volcarona is becoming a tremendous problem again, so this thing is viable IMO. I don't think it's great, but it's Volcarona's one true hard-counter as it can't get worn down over the course of an entire game easily due to its reliable recovery.

:weezing-galar:

:shedinja:

:keldeo:

:diggersby:

:regieleki:

Absolute fucking shitmon. I do not think highly of Regieleki anymore and that's a shame. It sets Screens but that's it IMO. Regieleki is, in my opinion, the current worst OU-viable mon.

This is my first time doing this, ready to get flamed :O
Putting them in order of how good I believe them to be until B+, then alphabetical from there.

S+ Rank:
:garchomp: Garchomp
I definitely think Garchomp is the best mon in the meta currently. Its movepool, stats (Phenomenal Attack and HP and solid Speed stand out), and typing make it incredibly versatile and excel at the many things it does to a basically unrivaled degree. This Pokemon has 0 or near-0 counters and few checks, all while usually setting up Stealth Rock in its oft-given spare time. It's manageable due to the prevalence of Clefable, Corviknight, Landorus-T, and Rillaboom, and the recent rise of Weavile, but in my opinion Garchomp reigns supreme in this tier.

S Rank:
:heatran: Heatran
:landorus-therian: Landorus-T
:dragapult: Dragapult
Heatran: Pretty self-explanatory. Very few switchins, and almost none long-term due to toxic. It's definitely Heatran's 4MSS that keeps it from being the best mon in the tier, as it wants to run Taunt and Protect and Earth Power and Toxic on every set but can't with the obligatory Magma Storm. Still, it's clear that Heatran's defensive utility and lack of defensive counterplay makes it a solid S tier.

Lando-T: Omnipresent, insane mixed defensive and offensive utility, no problem at all getting up Stealth Rock. A no-brainer.

Pult: Dragapult's versatility meets, or even surpasses, that of Garchomp, and its offensive typing is arguably better, especially with its ungodly Speed. It spreads status, or breaks, or sweeps, or cleans, and often does two or more at once.

S- Rank:
:tornadus-therian: Tornadus-T
Really, it is lack of consistency that ultimately holds Torn-T back, but it likely is a top 5 mon in the meta currently. You gotta give Torn-T credit: when it's not missing Hurricanes and Focus Blasts, it's tearing apart teams almost single handedly with Nasty Plot or pivoting around some of the meta's scariest threats while being one of its best defoggers with its defensive set. Very, very good Pokemon overall though, deserving of S-.

Figured I'd post my current thoughts on my take of the Viability Rankings here. S and A ranks are ordered in viability, any below are ordered alphabetically

S Rank:

Some Pokemon in A+ were close to S for me, but I decided that the better play would be to move a bunch of A+ mons down a rank to better fill the space between the S ranks and them, instead of introducing the awful S- that usually ends up being reserved only if a metagame titan is so much better than the A+ ranks.

S Rank

Landorus-Therian
Dragapult

A Rank:

Tornadus-Therian was a very close decision between S and A+ for me, but I figured it would work best in the bottom of S due to how incredibly annoying its Nasty Plot set is - and despite its inconsistency, it can very easily be patched up with the likes of Substitute, Knock Off or U-turn, turning it into more of an offensive pivot. [Update: this was moved to the top of A+ due to its lack of overall splashability compared to Landorus-Therian and Dragapult, and its inconsistency with regards to offensive moves makes it a risky wincon]

Clefable and Toxapex are as high as they are because even despite the metagame being against them in some ways, they still manage to be incredibly splashable defensive Pokemon. Clefable is great at staving off Dragapult and its CM Thunder set is an obnoxious wincon that can often cheese its checks through paralysis.

Slowking lies very high here due to its incredible pivoting abilities and key Future Sight support which helps a lot of breakers get through some of the meta's most durable walls. Being a hard counter to the likes of Tapu Lele and Nidoking, mostly hard counter to Heatran and even pivot around Tornadus-Therian and Kyurem is a great boon to have.

Kartana lies somewhat high here by comparison to its best competition, Rillaboom - this is due to how SD Synthesis is a much easier fit on builds and is still a sufficient enough wallbreaker to get it past most walls in the metagame in the first place. Being a better check to Garchomp, Landorus-Therian and Ferrothorn is also enticing compared to Rillaboom, but it still doesn't give it much of an advantage compared to Rillaboom due to how it better fits on high-speed offense builds. [Update: Success of the CB set and general power as a wincon has enlightened me with regards to Kartana - I seriously believe it to be one of the scariest breakers in the metagame right now and therefore place it under Clefable]

Ferrothorn is low by comparison as it doesn't really check the best mons in the metagame very well at the moment - most of them either have ways of hitting it super effectively, have ways of negating its hazard pressure or are dependent on certain moves for Ferrothorn to carry for it to not be passive towards them. [Update: I tried out PDef vs some of the newer breakers and it does indeed check them pretty well at the moment. Ferro rises to below Rillaboom as a result]

Edit (15/04/21): I have been trying out Melmetal in building recently and I've discovered it's quite a bit more adaptable than its ranking suggests here. Pads 3 Attacks sets are actually very hard to effectively wall and are capable of staving off most chip / ability-type punishes. I've also recently been looking into Chople Berry for SD Rillaboom / Kartana (and possibly use it against Zamazenta-Crowned). It is not necessarily the most splashable mon, but it is threatening enough to land in A-.

Zeraora also lands in low A instead of the top spot in A- due to my underestimation of its ability to pressure Ground-types over the course of a game.

B Rank:

A few drops I considered were Dragonite and Dracozolt, but I realize that their placements are quite correct as they are, due to Dracozolt's ability to fry teams under Sand and Dragonite's defensive capabilities.

Hawlucha lies high in comparison due to the increased usage of Rillaboom and Tapu Koko, as well as drops in usage for Toxapex and Slowbro, giving it a lot more room to sweep.

My version of ranks are always mental and for the most part condensed. Because of the subjectivity of rankings in general and outside of centralized stuff being accepted as good by majority, some things are considered better or worse based on a person's building playstyles or tendency. I myself am not big on the Scizor wave currently but I acknowledge it and it should be accounted for to a degree. Stuff below B rank is for the most part irrelevant to me. They're are normally after thoughts in the teambuilder that you don't have to spend a whole lot of time to account for based on a number reasons stemming mostly from lack of usage, ie Jirachi being the only decent defensive counterplay to Tapu Lele but is not very meta yet if it ever will be. Things in B- usually are where they are for the sake of formality and that they are okay but sometimes fringe options or are there because they represent a playstyle such as A-Ninetales, Pelipper. Blissey is another formality mon because I think Chansey is better but in reality I dont think either of them are great, its just easier to use Blissey cause of HDB.

Chomp, Lando-T, Pult are my top 3 because I think the best teams, as in the best constructed ones from a teambuilder perspective, will always have one if not more of them at this point in time. They pose the largest teambuilding constraint when trying to take into account each variation, they are the easiest mons to utilize and justify for a team, and in most cases they warp the metagame towards them. The A+ mons pose similar traits but can be more circumstantial (Heatran, Specs Lele against slower teams, Scarf Kartana, Rillaboom against Offense for example).

I have some other perspectives but that's kind of the tl;dr of my thought process behind these. Admittedly some things in B will always feel iffy when placing.

Now 100% more demonic
I had a go at my personal VR.

These rankings are in viability order:
S Rank
:landorus_therian: Landorus-T
:dragapult: Dragapult
Landorus-T is the clear best mon of the tier, and I think Dragapult comes slightly below at the moment, but both are significantly above other S-rank candidates.

A+ Rank
:garchomp: Garchomp
:heatran: Heatran
:slowking: Slowking
:corviknight: Corviknight
:clefable: Clefable
:ferrothorn: Ferrothorn
:zeraora: Zeraora
:tapu_koko: Tapu Koko
:kartana: Kartana
There's no doubt Garchomp and Heatran are the best two mons in A+, and Slowking's support is uncontested. I think Zeraora and Tapu Koko provide enough support to be A+, and Zeraora is probably the slightly better Pokemon at the moment for outspeeding Dragapult. Most controversial might be Kartana to the bottom of this rank, but it probably is an effective enough wallbreaker for A+ at the moment especially with Zapdos used less at the moment and Magearna gone.

A Rank
:toxapex: Toxapex
:tornadus_therian: Tornadus-T
:urshifu_rapid_strike: Urshifu-R
:tapu_lele: Tapu Lele
:kyurem: Kyurem
:weavile: Weavile
:bisharp: Bisharp
:rillaboom: Rillaboom
:volcarona: Volcarona
Controversially, Toxapex drops, as it can't really wall that much in this meta, especially with Weavile, Urshifu-R and Bisharp typically having Future Sight support, and Slowking provides huge competition checking Heatran and Lele and having Teleport. Tornadus-T falls as it can struggle with horrendous accuracy, the rise of Weavile with Koko, Zeraora and Pult still dominant, and its poor immediate power. Urshifu-R is a premier wallbreaker with Slowking the best Water in this meta. Weavile will probably rise in this update, and I think Bisharp should come with it too. Finally, Volcarona rises slightly now people finally accepted Heatran is exploitable, but stays at the bottom of A due to its considerably matchup-fishy status as well as being a shaky Rilla and Kart check when they always carry Knock Off.

Rillaboom is good enough for A rank but many people do overrate it a little (definitely not A+), and Kyurem is great but doesn't rise as it isn't splashable enough for A+ rank, being heavily dependent on team support to work properly and very often mandating a team built around it.

A- Rank
:skarmory: Skarmory
:hydreigon: Hydreigon
:melmetal: Melmetal
:dragonite: Dragonite
:magnezone: Magnezone
:scizor: Scizor
:tyranitar: Tyranitar
:blissey: Blissey
:slowbro: Slowbro
Hydreigon is a great Pokemon but has to drop given the difficulty of putting it on a lot of teams. (it's a Dark-type that loses to Pult, and Pult can provide speed control too.) Tyranitar rises again for checking three awkward mons, Volc, Pult, and Tran, in one slot, which is the kind of role compression necessary with so many threats to cover at the moment. I'm not convinced Blissey is great but it has to be in the A-ranks as long as Pult is a thing. Lastly, while Slowbro is clearly inferior to Slowking, B+ was an exaggeration, as Slowking checks only two seriously relevant mons better and leaves teams extremely Urshifu weak.

B+ Rank
:zapdos: Zapdos
:tangrowth: Tangrowth
:rotom_wash: Rotom-W
:slowking_galar: Galarian Slowking
:mandibuzz: Mandibuzz
:hippowdon: Hippowdon
:dracozolt: Dracozolt
:nidoking: Nidoking
:tapu_fini: Tapu Fini
:buzzwole: Buzzwole
:tapu_bulu: Tapu Bulu
:victini: Victini
Zapdos drops as it checks very little besides the falling Tornadus-T better than Skarmory and Corviknight, in particular losing to Weavile and hating Knock Off. Mandibuzz may seem a strange drop given I promoted Tyranitar and Blissey, but unlike them, Mandibuzz does very little better other than checking Dragapult than other Pokemon, and I would almost never use it without Dragapult. (U-turn chip combined with the pressure of being unable to Roost also allows Pult to beat Mandibuzz quite easily.) Hippowdon drops because Tyranitar is the better sand setter at the moment, and it does nothing to any Defogger and is just U-turn/Toxic bait for Koko and Zeraora. Nidoking is definitely past its prime with Clefable and Toxapex a lot less relevant, and the ubiquitous Slowking demands Electric coverage on it now. Tapu Fini has dropped off hard, and I rank it there mainly for being one of the only really usable Scarfers and a full stop to Hex Dragapult. Buzzwole is heavily underrated given it is one of the only "real" counters to the Grasses and also checks Ground-types, and Tapu Bulu and Victini rising should be relatively self-explanatory.

B Rank

:amoonguss: Amoonguss
Slightly less changes here. Excadrill drops again (how the mighty have fallen) as it is easily walled by common physically defensive Pokemon, particularly unable to stand the rise of Corviknight and Skarmory, and has limited defensive value in this meta. Blacephalon rises up for being able to exploit any team reliant on checking Pult by abusing its lack of power, and partly because our Fire-type options are so lacking. Amoonguss has a slight rise mainly for being a Slowking-compatible Urshifu answer.

B- Rank
:pelipper: Pelipper
:barraskewda: Barraskewda
:moltres_galar: Galarian Moltres
:suicune: Suicune
:kommo-o: Kommo-o
:terrakion: Terrakion
:primarina: Primarina
:mamoswine: Mamoswine
:mew: Mew
:ditto: Ditto
:blaziken: Blaziken
Whilst you could make many arguments for rises from C+, Terrakion and Mamoswine rise because I've seen and used them enough to believe they are worth it. (Mamo is another strong Ice Shard user, which has the same advantages as Weavile does, and Terrakion is another mon that can destroy some Slowking-reliant teams.) Mew does because, while its usage doesn't quite reflect its viability, it does have an irreplaceable role in some hyper offense teams. Suicune is the only drop here, and should be pretty obvious by now.

As I don't care enough about the C-ranks, these are just alphabetical.

C+ Rank:

:quagsire: Quagsire
:seismitoad: Seismitoad
:thundurus_therian: Thundurus-T
:zapdos_galar: Galarian Zapdos
:zarude: Zarude
Cloyster rises as it's seemingly enough to justify a King's Rock suspect on its own. Moltres is hot garbage, and Zarude drops for not checking what you'd typically want from defensive grasses like Rillaboom, Kartana, or U-turn Landorus-T while not having the power for a fully offensive set. It hard walls Slowking, but I'm not using a slot just for that. Seismitoad rises mostly so all the rain-exclusive fringe mons are together (besides Volcanion, but that is fringe of the fringe).

I considered dropping Blaziken, but I think it has barely the variety of tools to stay in B- for now (Band, Knock Off, mixed Overheat for Lando, etc)

Glastrier drops because I think it's only viable on TR, so moved it to be with the rest of the archetype. Obstagoon is almost entirely outclassed by Weavile and Bisharp without Spectrier in the tier, and Rotom-H is only relevant for desperate compression of Rotom-W and Zapdos's roles. Togekiss is almost completely outclassed by Tornadus-T. Mantine gets a tiny rise mainly because it hard counters Volcarona (if it is not ranked for that please unrank it.) Latios should stay below Latias until someone proves something it can do another Dragon-type can't, as I've yet to find one doing anything notable.

C- Rank

I unranked everything here except Mantine and Shedinja as I believe it to be too niche to be worth ranking. I also unranked Nidoqueen for the reasons stated in the VR, and Celesteela for being totally outclassed by Corviknight and Skarmory.

is a Community Contributoris a Tiering Contributor

Personal SS OU viability ranking by Mimikyu Stardust
(placement matters until C+, after that its just random non alphabetic placements)

Let me say this before hand, the difference between a tier for me is like 25 arbitrary points, a different between mons are 5 points
Lets say dragapult is 700 points, then heatran is 675 points, torn t is 670 points. its how i grade them
S Rank (The Best and can be argued (not rlly) for a ban)
:dragapult: Dragapult
Honestly pult is just so versatile, the most basic is its a fast and deceptively strong special attacker. that in itself can make it A+ without competition, but its versatility and the fact that it can be a strong dragon dance physical sweeper is also very good, as the special attacker and dragon dance set have very different counterplay and if you dont get the right counter againts it, youre in a world of hurt. and also the very niche status spreading hex mix pult is also still good.
S- Rank (Not quite the best, but definetly some of the best)
:heatran: Heatran
:tornadus-therian: Tornadus-T
:weavile: Weavile
Heatran, Torn T and weave are just very strong. heatran with its ever anoyying special bulk and typing with its magma storm, and ability to shut down stall and spread status is almost too good. Torn-T with its regenerator and pivoting ability is uncontested, it spreads knock better than butter on a burnt pan, has the fastest defog and the ever anoyying hurricane. while weavile is just a good physical attacker with an amazing matchup againts the top tier defensive mons, deceptively good special bulk and amazingly fast speed
A+ Rank (great mons with little to no downside)
:landorus-therian: Landorus-T
:corviknight: Corviknight
:tapu lele: Tapu Lele
:ferrothorn: Ferrothorn
:garchomp: Garchomp
:tapu fini: Tapu Fini
:melmetal: Melmetal
:mew: Mew
:kyurem: Kyurem
:toxapex: Toxapex
:blacephalon: Blacephalon
Lando T below S might be a surprise but really, its overrated, not to say its bad but its not what it was in USM, it has very good defensive profile with its spdef set, VERY STRONG choice band attacker and also a scarfer, its a jack of all trades that can do anything you want it to do, its just that its not as good as the S mons even if they can do less things. Corvi being the second A+ is due to it being a great defensive back bone againts things like lele, melmetal, lando, weavile, urshifu, garchomp, lucha and more, it can tank most things and defog easily due to its bulk, and it can even Pressure stall opponents hazard or attacking moves.

this one is mostly a joke, but ive seen 4 of these do some sort of work. licki as a heal bell support and ability to spread knock is great with a side of wish, its also very specially bulky and can even go toe to toe with heatran. Rotom is the worst one here, as the niche i found is a HARD galarian zapdos counter that is quite fast unlike aegislash and can outspeed even things like modest lele and adamant galarian zapdos. mostly used as a bulky scarfer. Eldegoss is a poor mans tangrowth that is good on the special bulk, it can spin and spread leech seed which is great for certain bulky stall teams (or the mono regen core people use). finally, arctovish. only one thing to say. FISHIOUS REND :choice-band:. thats all.

As someone who's always objectively right (this includes opinions) I bring you:
Le h moment tierlist
I will be stating my (objectively correct) opinions on each pokemon divided into tiers and subtiers to more accurately state their viability as usual.
Note: These pokémon are not ranked in any particular order, I am going down the OU tier on the teambuilder and ranking them one by one.
