Pawniard @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Defiant
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpD / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Beat Up
- Brick Break
Traditionally, Pawniard is a defensive check to special attackers, but it has recently surged as a Choice Scarf user due to its revenge killing and cleaning capabilities. It offensively checks the prevalent +1 Tyrunt, and the Speed boost also lets Pawniard handle normally faster foes such as Mienfoo, Abra, and Diglett. Beat Up allows it to bypass Focus Sash and Substitute from Abra and Diglett. Brick Break improves the Pawniard mirror matchup while also serving as a countermeasure against dual screen hyper offense teams. Due to the loss of defensive utility, Pawniard appreciates pairing up with specially defensive teammates like Frillish and defensive Porygon. Checks to Fighting-types such as Larvesta and Koffing are also appreciated; Koffing helps wear down Mienfoo, Pawniard's main switch-in, by denying Regenerator recovery, while Larvesta and the previously mentioned defensive Porygon provide pivot support, which allows Pawniard to come in more often and wreak havoc.
