------------------------------------------------With that being said...------------------------------------------------
In our continued efforts to balance the meta, council has completed our first post-mod balance patch! This one is sure to bring about some major shifts in the meta, but hopefully for the better. So, to begin: after our last patch, it became clear that a certain pair of defensive mons absolutely dominated the meta, with their existence basically invalidating every Ground mon in the tier and the two of them combined make the single best defensive core in the metagame, weak only to Alohwo. Our planned changes to these mons have informed almost every other change on this list, so I think it would make the most sense to lay them out first. You may have guessed which mons I'm talking about by now, but in case you haven't, let me introduce to you the first two nerfs:

Bastiodon-Overgrown
70 / 75 / 101 / 111 / 116 / 30 --> 80 / 75 / 101 / 111 / 116 / 20
-Grassy Surge
; +Grass Pelt

This mon was always overtuned. I think I described it well in my previous post, but Grassy Surge has proven to be far too much on this. Constant passive recovery plus a Ground resistance on a Steel type are just too good for this metagame, and we've decided it's time to right this wrong. In exchange, this mon gets back the bulk it lost in the last patch, but this is absolutely a massive blow to Bastiothorn. Maybe now other Steels can actually see usage.

Listoxina
110 / 60 / 75 / 80 / 90 / 85 --> 120 / 60 / 75 / 80 / 90 / 85
-Levitate; +Swift Swim

Who knew a Water/Poison with Levitate, more utility than it knows what to do with, and the best bulk out of every Water in the tier would be broken? Well, big surprise, it was. Adding back bulk to this one may seem strange since it has quite reliable recovery, but council believes the proliferation of Ground types in the post-patch meta necessitates a reason to run it over other Waters.

With those two out of the way, we can move on to the rest of the changes.

Nerfs:

Aerodactyl-Ancient
-Earthquake

Aerodactyl is extremely pressing for teams to answer safely, with its STABs + EQ hitting the entire tier at least neutrally, while also being both very fast and very strong. Seeing as we've just neutered two of its best forms of counterplay, council believes this is the best way to balance the mon for this new meta.

Archeops-Ancient
-Earth Power

In a similar vein to Aerodactyl, this mon is now completely unwallable after Listoxina's nerf, while also being the fastest unboosted mon in the metagame. Council believes this to be unhealthy, while also hoping to encourage the usage of non-Bastiodon Steels, and so EP was put on the chopping block. Specs sets will miss this, but on the flip side they now have room to run both STABs and U-Turn, so it's not a complete loss.

Drakabyssal
-Dragon Dance, +Moonlight

This mon was the result of a promptmons slate, with its prompt being... wait for it... a bulky Water. This was supposed to be a fatmon. Well, clearly that isn't how the meta has shaken out, so with this change we hope to fix that, both by removing its ability to basically win instantly if it gets to +1 without taking too much chip, and by giving it recovery so that it can actually fulfill its intended role.

Matriaryena
-Earthquake

Earthquake is complete overkill on a mon like this, allowing it to hit Poisons that would otherwise at least check it. Now that Listoxina is losing Levitate, council believes Matriaryena learning this move is no longer balanced.

Swalot-Primal
-Morning Sun

After further play with this mon, council believes that despite its amazing kit, it is balanced both by struggling against common speed control options, and by being prone to chip. However, this last part is made moot by its access to Morning Sun, and so we have decided this move needs to go.

Buffs:

Aegislash-Ancient
Flint Spear: 85 BP Physical Ghost. Pokemon damaged by this attack become weaker to Fire. (all other values remain the same)

Flint Spear is a very strange sig, and Aegislash-Ancient not having access to a good physical Ghost move while this signature was just sitting there unused felt odd, so we've corrected that.

Carracosta-Leatherback
74 / 108 / 133 / 83 / 65 / 32 --> 74 / 108 / 133 / 83 / 80 / 32

Specially defensive Darks are something this meta very much is lacking, and while Drakabyssal is a step in the right direction, having other options would be ideal. Carracosta has been on a downturn in viability anyway, so a bulk boost should help it keep up with the competition.

Claydol-Premade
60 / 120 / 70 / 90 / 65 / 95 --> 60 / 90 / 70 / 120 / 65 / 95

This mon’s physical sets are really bad, even with 120 Attack. Really the only tangible benefit is strong Explosions for suicide lead sets, but seeing as how that wasn’t the mon’s intended role, council thought it would be prudent to correct this flaw. Now Claydol can properly fill its role as a mid-speed breaker with Meteor Beam sets, being able to absolutely crush almost the entire tier at +1.

Exploud-Ancient
+Rock/Electric typing
-Audio Rupture; +Punk Rock
+Overdrive

Exploud has had an unfortunate existence, as before it was vetoed in the slate it was subbed, it was absurdly strong and would've been meta-destroying. Unfortunately, its final version simply lacks the tools to stand out in this meta. With a new typing, a better ability, and another sound move to abuse Punk Rock with, this mon goes from lackluster to borderline unwallable with Specs sets. Of course, it's extremely reliant on good prediction to make meaningful progress against most teams, but with this new kit it should be much more justifiable on teams.

Gastrodon-Entity
-Damp; +Neuroforce

This mon isn't necessarily bad, as it has quite a few appealing traits, it just hasn't seen much usage. However, having no usable ability has always been a thorn in its side, so giving it Neuroforce from East is a step in the right direction.

Gastrodon-Entity-East
-Neuroforce; +Psychic Surge

In memory of our dearly departed Bastiothorn, we've given you a new terrain setter to compete with Tar. With its new ability in Psychic Surge, Gastrodon-East's Future Sights now do absolutely astronomical damage to non-resists, making it much better at supporting offensive mons like Armaldo and Hariyama. Additionally, its typing and Psychic Terrain allow it to annoy Tar teams by switching in on many of their abusers and preventing Mamo from coming back in with its powerful Future Sights.

Melophus
+Calm Mind, Mystical Fire, Wish

This mon has no movepool. These moves should give it the tools it needs to effectively pull off its intended roles.

Parasinensis
+Strength Sap

Another mon whose main pitfall is simply low usage. Strength Sap allows it to much better fill the role of a physical wall, and recovery in general will make it much easier to leverage Magic Bounce effectively.

Plusle-Primal
60 / 60 / 70 / 95 / 115 / 105 --> 60 / 60 / 70 / 105 / 105 / 105
+Strength Sap

Recovery allows this to better abuse Shadow Shield, and more immediate power makes it less exploitable while and after it sets up.

Scorcharnia
+Aqua Jet, Defog, Flare Blitz, Healing Wish, Switcheroo, Taunt

These movepool additions buff all forms in different ways without breaking any. Long can better fill its role of a bulky breaker with Flare Blitz and priority, Medium gains new tools to use on Scarf sets (mainly Switcheroo, but Healing Wish is also an option), and Short gains Defog and Taunt to work better as a utility pivot.

Spinollina
106 / 90 / 95 / 69 / 92 / 10 --> 106 / 79 / 75 / 90 / 82 / 60
+Discharge, Thunder, Zing Zap

Spinollina-Mega
106 / 110 / 95 / 69 / 92 / 90 --> 106 / 119 / 75 / 90 / 82 / 120
Thunder Thighs: This Pokemon's kicking moves have 1.2x power and cannot miss.

Admittedly more of a rework than a straight buff. Spinollina was a bit too good of a defensive Ground, so a slight bulk nerf should balance it out a bit. Additionally, its Attack and Special Attack have been essentially inverted, and it can now effectively run one of its new moves in Discharge to reliably spread Paralysis. Meanwhile, Mega has been more optimized as an offensive mon, becoming remarkably faster, gaining a bit of power and finally learning a Physical Electric move (Zing Zap). Thunder Thighs also now prevents HJK and Stick Kick from missing, removing the risk of crippling crash damage entirely. The cost for all of this is much lower bulk, but realistically this is still a massive buff for Mega Spinollina, which is great considering how historically terrible it's been.

Terrorzino
85 / 135 / 70 / 115 / 90 / 60 --> 85 / 135 / 80 / 75 / 110 / 60

Some stat reshuffling makes this mon's role as a bulky SD breaker more clear, while its now sky-high special bulk hopefully differentiates it from Tyrantrum.

Trobsidon
80 / 85 / 80 / 65 / 70 / 115 --> 80 / 115 / 80 / 65 / 70 / 115
+Swords Dance

Trobsidon-Mega
80 / 105 / 60 / 130 / 100 / 120 --> 80 / 115 / 80 / 130 / 100 / 120

After reading through the original submission, base Trobsidon was apparently supposed to be a fast, physically offensive Technician abuser, with Technician Accelerock serving as great speed control for common fast mons like Archeops and Aerodactyl. Unfortunately, this mon was only given a measly 85 Attack, which made it completely unusable. With a now much more respectable 115 Attack and access to physical boosting, base Trobsidon is a much more threatening SD breaker/cleaner. Mega gets a bit more bulk, which is also nice.

Tyrantrum-Apex
+Dragon Dance

This mon struggles to make meaningful progress in the current meta with either offensive or defensive sets. Giving it back DD should cement its role more cleanly as a setup sweeper, though defensive sets will also be much more viable in a post-Bastiothorn meta.

Velovolt
90 / 80 / 70 / 90 / 90 / 105 --> 90 / 90 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 105

While Velovolt is still fairly usable right now, its power is definitely noticeably lacking at times, and as the meta becomes more Ground-centric it is likely Velovolt will not be able to keep up. This simple swap of its offensive stats should keep it ahead of the curve and make physical sets just the right bit stronger.

Overall, these are some pretty massive changes. We would love to hear your thoughts on the mod as a whole and on these changes, so please feel free to discuss either here or on the Discord server! Once again, thank you all for contributing to Paleomons, and from all of us on the council, we hope to see you all again in our future endeavors!
