OU Orbeetle [QC 2/2] [GP 1/1]

[SET]
name: Bulky Webs Setter
move 1: Sticky Web
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Recover
move 4: Hypnosis
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Frisk
nature: Jolly
evs: 248 HP / 20 SpD / 240 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
While generally inferior to Ribombee as a Sticky Web setter, Orbeetle differentiates itself with its access to Recover and Hypnosis. However, Orbeetle's weak offensive stats, shallow movepool, and lack of Taunt mean that it has difficulty stopping common entry hazard removal from the likes of Defog Mandibuzz and Corviknight as well as Rapid Spin Excadrill. Orbeetle's poor defensive Bug / Psychic typing also lets common threats like Hawlucha, Gyarados, and Hydreigon switch in freely and force it out. Leveraging Orbeetle's bulk to set up Sticky Web and put incoming switch-ins to sleep via Hypnosis is critical, as it offers little else of note in OU. 240 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature let Orbeetle reach 303 Speed and outspeed Jolly Excadrill. 248 HP EVs maximize Orbeetle's overall bulk while minimizing potential entry hazard damage, while the remaining EVs are put into Orbeetle's naturally high Special Defense. Heavy-Duty Boots are the preferred item of choice, since Orbeetle is vulnerable to all entry hazards and cannot afford to take extra chip damage.

Orbeetle's main job is set up Sticky Web, attempt to put incoming spinners and Defoggers such as Excadrill, Mandibuzz, and Corviknight to sleep via Hypnosis, and then U-turn into an offensive teammate. Good partners are slower wallbreakers like Hydreigon, Choice Band Galarian Darmanitan, and Choice Band Dracovish, all of which appreciate Sticky Web slowing down opposing Pokemon that would normally outspeed and revenge kill them. Gengar and Dragapult are two good Ghost-type partners for Orbeetle, as they block Rapid Spin and threaten spinners like Excadrill. As Orbeetle does not have Taunt, it needs partners that can stop foes from freely Defogging against it. Consequently, Bisharp is a great partner, as with Defiant it can heavily punish common Defoggers like Mandibuzz and is easily brought in by Orbeetle's U-turn.

While inferior to Ribombee for Hyper Offensive teams, Orbeetle has a niche on bulky offense as a bulky Sticky Web setter with reliable recovery. However, its Bug/Psychic typing gives Orbeetle unfortunate weaknesses to Fire, Flying, Rock, Bug, Ghost, and Dark. Adding "However," in should set the tone better. Orbeetle's offensive presence is also lackluster, with low attacking stats and a sparse movepool. You should add one or two examples of threatening Pokemon that it easily lets in. Access to Sticky Web, U-Turn, and Hypnosis let Orbeetle set up Webs or put an opponent to sleep and then pivot out to a teammate. Leveraging Orbeetle's bulk and ability to set up Sticky Web multiple times is critical, as it offers nothing else of note in Overused. 240 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature lets Orbeetle hit 303 Speed, outspeeding Jolly Excadrill. 248 HP EV maximize Orbeetle's overall bulk while minimizing potential hazard damage, and the remaining EVs are put into Orbeetle's naturally good Special Defense. Heavy-Duty Boots are the item of choice, since Orbeetle is vulnerable to all entry hazards and cannot afford to be taking extra chip damage.

Orbeetle has nearly zero offensive presence, and its main job is set up Sticky Web multiple times and U-turn into an offensive teammate. Good partners are slower wallbreakers like Hydreigon and Choice Band Galarian Darmanitan that appreciate Sticky Web slowing down opposing Pokemon that would normally outspeed and revenge kill them. Gengar and Dragapult are two good Ghost-type partners for Orbeetle, as they block Rapid Spin and threaten Rapid Spinners like Excadrill. As Orbeetle does not have Taunt, it needs partners that can stop opponents from freely Defogging on it. Bisharp is a great partner, as with Defiant it can heavily punish common Defoggers like Mandibuzz and is easily brought in by Orbeetle's U-Turn.

  • "While inferior to Ribombee for Hyper Offensive teams, Orbeetle has a niche on bulky offense as a bulky Sticky Web" Sticky Web bulky offense isn't really a thing, lol. Just say it's outclassed by Ribombee and leave it at that imo.
  • "weaknesses to Fire, Flying, Rock, Bug, Ghost, and Dark" we don't do that here. I'd rather have you mention common Pokémon that threaten it, especially Defoggers like Mandibuzz and Corviknight and Rapid Spinners like Excadrill.
  • For the Hypnosis part also mention it's Orbeetle's best bet against the aforementioned Excadrill, Mandibuzz, Corviknight to sleep them upon switch in.
  • I guess Dracovish would be a cool partner, Dracovish in webs is scary as shit.
That should be everything, you can move it to GP now!

While generally inferior to Ribombee as a Sticky Web setter (Redundancy, you mention that Orbeetle is a Sticky Web setter right after), Orbeetle is a new Sticky Web setter that differentiates itself with its access to Recover and Hypnosis. However, Orbeetle's weak offensive stats, shallow movepool, and lack of Taunt mean that it has difficulty stopping common entry hazard removal such as from the likes of Defog Mandibuzz and Corviknight as well as Rapid Spin Excadrill. Orbeetle's poor defensive Bug/Psychic Bug / Psychic typing also lets common threats like Hawlucha, Gyarados, and Hydreigon switch in freely and force it out. Leveraging Orbeetle's bulk to set up Sticky Web and put incoming switch-(AH)ins to sleep via Hypnosis is critical, (AC) as it offers little else of note in Overused OU. 240 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature lets let Orbeetle reach 303 Speed and outspeed Jolly Excadrill. 248 HP EV EVs maximize Orbeetle's overall bulk while minimizing potential entry hazard damage, and while the remaining EVs are put into Orbeetle's naturally high Special Defense. I saw you removed both instances of Sticky Web setter in the first sentence, I only marked one, so may as well add one back. Doesn't matter which one

Added back the first one (also had to add a comma/hyphen, missed the green bits somehow first time)
