Introduction

Many people are playing on the ladder for Smogon's Official Ladder Tournament (OLT) to win their very own trophy. This thread will serve as a place to discuss the OLT metagame, trends, popular teams, etc. After each cycle ends, I will write an overview about that cycle. Participants should also feel free to share the teams that they have been using too! This OP will also serve as a way to compile all these posts.

Well OLT cycle 1 ended and I will post here the team previews of what I saw a lot, also will comment my experience in my first OLT as a non USM OU player.

Hyper Offense Teams

Bulky Offense / Balanced Teams

Weather Teams

Stall Teams

shoutouts ABR Lopunny Kicks and Jordy for help me searching some teams and stuff

This is my first OLT experience and it very nice to be honest, as a non USM OU player I enjoyed it so much, I used a talah team that was created for SPL 6 months ago, it have incredible Match Up vs most screens HO used in ladder, and that helped me peak 2000 in cycle 1, sadly im bad and tilted back to 1700 lol...

This OLT featured an increase of Seismitoad, Diancie Bulky Offenses, Slowbro, Stall was a hard work since Lele rised up in usage too, Charizard-Y looked as a nice antimeta choice, Rain was a strong pick too since it have access to hazzard stack with powerful sweepers like Gren-Ash / Swampert-M, Regenerator Core was also seen a lot, and Sand with Garchomp-M to abuse Sand Force.

Some good cores I saw:

and the list goes on, for me these core are the ones with most success, I want to wish good luck to all participants in Cycle 2, enjoy it like I do n_n

hello fellow gamers! maybe ppl dont care but i want to say this was my 1st olt (and last for this generation, i have no intention of playing a 2nd round) and i personally thought i made an ok run.

i used a lot of teams but these are some of the better teams i used:
to cheese earlier ladder...
https://pastebin.com/QLhReR6w - i copied/stole this if want to put it in a more crude way from a guy named sloudy last year & its my favorite for cheeseing
https://pastebin.com/2KfmwpeN - made this myself

what i used later on...
https://pastebin.com/VxYaAnH8 - my own team...everything standard with satanic clef set
https://pastebin.com/ptpXEvJ2 - standard manaphy rain from ske, made this bulky rest manaphy from 3 atks after abr wooped my ass from what i thought was a surefire win
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-947320454

i also used haisheras/minakamiyukis teams a fair bit, she is one of the most original builders i have ever seen
https://pastebin.com/W5VR4Pyk - the best version of haishera stall imo and the one a lot of ppl use, she originally ran counter on skarm and discharge zone with funkier evs but i just made use more standard evs
https://pastebin.com/DAJm6Mdu - 2nd haishera stall

lastly, the variation of empos team literally EVERYWHERE that i have, ppl have too many diff variations but this is the 1 i got, i never actually used this team though
https://pastebin.com/phn983fu

thanks jordy for being a friend and encouraging me to go and grind ladder again when i play noob and go from 2050 to 1930 and from 1970 to 1830 lol coz i actually wanted to call it then

- During this first cycle, Skarmory saw a significant uptick in usage, specifically on stall, balance, and semi stall. Its ability to check some of the strongest Pokemon in the metagame at the moment, such as Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Mega Scizor, while providing Spikes support, is why it was such a popular pick.
- Continuing the recent trend from tournaments, rain continued to see a lot of usage this cycle, with a few minor deviations here and there.
- Mega Lopunny saw a lot of usage, particularly on bulkier teams, to the surprise of many. Mega Lopunny provides a lot of valuable utility against HO teams thanks to its high Speed stat and access to Fake Out, which allows it to counter lead dedicated leads like Excadrill and Greninja. It also provides utility in the form of Encore, which has proved to be useful against a bunch of utility Pokemon.
- Ditto saw a lot of usage on a lot of the fatter teams that were run, considering that it's great insurance against opposing fat teams, being capable of copying Pokemon like Toxapex, Slowbro, and Tangrowth, while also being able to counter sweep against HO teams.

Notable Teams:

- This team was used by both Charmflash and Relous to qualify for this cycle. This team focuses mostly on getting up hazards and forcing the opponent to Defog-hence why there's no hazard remover on this team-and to simply out fat the opposition.
- This Mega Lopunny team by Empo was used by a few different qualifiers this cycle. Similarly to the team above, this team also focuses on pressuring the opposition by stacking hazards and uses Reuniclus as a wincon in fat vs fat match ups.
- At the request of Charmflash, I'm also going to cover this team, which was used by various participants. This isn't a particularly new take on rain, but this rain team makes use of Manaphy to break through the many fat balance builds such as the two showcased above.

hello I just wanted to say a decent amount of things about this OLT and what i think about cycle 1 and share replays from the 1800-2000's. thank you Jhonx~ for the post its very interesting seeing the patterns of these teams.

1. Rain teams are everywhere
2. Stall teams and Balance teams are increasing along with the usage of ditto
3. Hyper Offense teams are usually Tapu Koko screens with Magearna as the steel type and M-Tyranitar or M-Gyarados for the mega slot

I played vs some very good players so i hope they dont mind me posting my replays vs them. win or lose I want to share these replays because im grateful that I got to play and be apart of some high ladder games

Just gonna do a small post on what I used for the majority of my run; the team variety this cycle was very finite when approaching 2050+, and I think the 2 teams I'll be talking about encompass the strongest playstyles to make a run with (subject to change ofc).

Team 1: 1000-2050
187478
: Koko + Fat Mana Rain by talah and Ske
So to little surprise, rain was what I used for the majority of the cycle. Manaphy had an insane spike in usage during this cycle, abusing tail glow along with water Z to basically nuke anything. Rest also became a popular last move on mana, allowing it to get back to full without having to stay asleep due to hydration. On this team the mana is max hp modest, which imo is the best set rn. The bulk making revenging this beast much more difficult, and the added power being very clutch for several rolls:
Timid: +3 252 SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega in Rain: 313-369 (85.9 - 101.3%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
Modest: +3 252+ SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega in Rain: 344-405 (94.5 - 111.2%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
Peli, torn, and ferro are pretty self explanatory. Peli giving me my rain as well as being the only knock user on the team, allowing me to cripple ferros, chanseys and other annoying bulky mons. Torn for hazard control as well as its ability to check several threats like kart, medi, bulu, serp etc. Taunt and U-turn are my two filler moves; taunt so I can limit hazards/stop setup and u-turn to grab momentum which is far more important for this team than knock off. Ferro is dual hazards dual stabs; hazards helping mana/pert/koko in the late game, with power whip to check opposing rain threats, as well as to not be completely useless vs rotom/mgyara. Gyro is mainy to punish torn for defogging as it is the most popular fogger in the tier, but it also is a strong accurate stab move vs alot of other threats like serp/kyub. Ferro serves as my primary ash gren switch, which is of course a role that every team needs, and overall its typing and stats make it very potent defensively. Pert is sub 3 attacks, taking advantage of dual hazards ferro to free up a moveslot. Nothing much to say about pert, it should be a constant on every rain team due to its insane power, and sub is great for easing prediction (ada nature btw). Koko is the last mon, this slot is basically a filler, anything can go here i.e. ash gren or gear. I liked having koko here tho for its crazy speed tier and for its ability to check torn, seeing as the team would otherwise have no flying resist. Magnet 3 attacks roost is the set, allowing me to take advantage of thunder's 100% accuracy in rain. Volt switch for more safe momentum and hp ice to hit those grounds like glisc, chomp and lando. Shouts Talah for this amazing team :D

Team 2: 2050-2200+
187479
: Krook + Reuni Balance by Haisheras
This was my second most used team as well as the only team I used during deadline hours. This team showcases reuni, one of the most iconic pokemon of this cycle alongside manaphy. Reuni always appears to pop back into the meta during olt, last year with its acid armor double dance set + tspikes, now with zpsy + coverage move. On this team it is cm/recover/psychic/eball which are my favorite moves on reuni as it gives it the ability to hit almost all of its checks super effectively as well as pop mega pert for 85+%. Rocky helmet is the item since magnezone is the z move user, but if you wanted you could make zone specs and reuni z psychic. I wont go into chansey/skarm as you could prolly guess what they do, and zone as previously mentioned is sub 3 attacks with z steel to trap mons like mawile/sciz/celesteela/ferro which could otherwise be annoying to the team. Krook is a rly cool niche pick in the meta with its access to pursuit. What also makes krook stand out is the access to intimidate, and its ground typing, which is extremely nice to block volt switch. Knock Off and EQ are my first 2 moves, both very spammable and can be clicked late game to even sweep opponents. Pursuit in third slot to trap threats like choice locked ash gren/lele and can also trap weakened latis and reunis if need be. Lastly is mega latias which on this team is recover 3 attacks with surf/icebeam/thunder. This was the main set I wanted to highlight on this team since with the insurgence of fat manaphy sets, thunderbolt does not cut it.
0 SpA Latias-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Manaphy: 172-204 (42.5 - 50.4%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO
0 SpA Latias-Mega Thunder vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Manaphy: 212-250 (52.4 - 61.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Despite the accuracy outside of rain, I think Thunder is needed on this Lati as you can not afford to drop surf for cm since a tran weakness would briskly present itself.

So yeah those are the two teams I used, shouts again talah and haisheras (+ all those who helped him edit i.e. rainy dreams and blackstar) for making my run possible and I wish everyone the best of luck with their own runs.

P.S. I will not be dropping the ports as they have been requested to stay hidden, but the visuals and descriptions should give you some ideas on what could be good to ladder with during these last 3 cycles :).

This is the team i used during my "low ladder" run (from 1000 to like 1800-1900ish) that I made for wcop prior to my game vs menci. Shoutouts to jake5 for suggesting this idea. I mainly wanted to talk a bit about it because it was spammed a lot during this cycle, so i thought why not making a post. Anyway this is a build featuring spikes as the main concept of the team, followed by mons that take advantage of them. Lopunny is the main abuser of spikes on the team; it's a good speed control aided with double priority, which is really appreciated for a slow team like this. On top of that, it also checks dark and rock types and basically works like a glue for this fat team. The second abuser is reuniclus, which works really well on the ladder since most of the stuff you see is medicham builds 6-0d by it. I decided to give it psychium z to nuke stuff like gliscor at +1 which is good to prevent setups and getting surprise kills, especially given that gliscor can sit comfortably against the rest of the team. Everybody was running signal beam on reuni but i actually run thunder. I think this move is pretty good for rain especially, which was popping up during the course of this cycle, and makes the gren/torn matchup better. Signal beam, though, is still an option to hit hoopa which can be difficult to deal with. Rest of the team is pretty straightforward: it is meant to wall the majority of the tier and support the rest of the mons. Overall it's a pretty cool team but it has a few weaknesses, one of them is named manaphy.

This team was basically what I intended to use before I noticed it was actually spammed by everyone and their moms during the course of the cycle, especially in high ladder. In addition to that, manaphy rain was literally everywhere from 2000 on during this cycle and this team doesn't have a great matchup vs that, hence why i decided to switch up teams.

Regarding what was used during this cycle what msu said in his post in just 3 points sums it up well, so not gonna talk about it any longer

In conclusion, another team that I used was the espeon one which isn't by any means supposed to be solid, just a team to have fun with. I did some games on the ladder with it and the results were pretty satisfying. I've also seen people stealing it and using it on the ladder during the last days. For people that are curious about it, I actually revamped an old team that I think was made by flcl that made me really interested about it and changed a bit of sets according them to my liking.

- Following the trend from cycle 1, Manaphy saw a massive surge in usage. More specifically; Rest Manaphy with maximum HP investment did. This is because it's great at dismantling the many bulky teams that were spammed throughout cycle 1. However, it saw a decrease in usage during the final hours of the cycle.
- To combat Manaphy and a few other threats to stall like Calm Mind + Pain Split Magearna, Shedinja also saw some usage, notably being used by ABR.
- Another Pokemon to combat the trend of bulky teams was Mega Mawile, which is an absolute menace to deal with for many of the bulkier builds thanks to its menacingly high Attack stat, solid typing, and respectable bulk

Notable Teams:

- This stall team was used by ABR to climb the ladder. It takes an interesting spin on stall by using an uncommon, yet very recognizable, menace in Shedinja. While many stall teams tend to struggle against the Rest Manaphy rain teams that were being used a lot this cycle, Shedinja completely flips this matchup around, by walling most wincons on rain teams. The rest of the team focuses on keeping hazards off the field for Shedinja and by stacking its own hazards with Chansey and Skarmory.
- This rain team was used by many competitors this cycle and Insult last cycle. This team uses Manaphy to pressure many of the fatter builds alongside Ferrothorn, which can easily set Stealth Rock and multiple layers of Spikes against these type of teams. The rest of the team focuses on checking threats like Tangrowth and Tornadus-T, with Tornadus-T and Tapu Koko, while exerting immense pressure with their high Base Power moves, made possible thanks to the rain that Pelipper sets.

Hey there, I just wanted to give some additional insight on what the ladder was looking like at the end of the cycle for cycle 2, particularly the teams that were used by those that qualified.

This was a really strong sand team made by sorry, but was also used by Hayburner on the way to qualifying. The team centers around the use of SR Megatar to have a good matchup against a lot of the fatter teams that were used in cycle 1 as well as act as a disrupter against rain teams, being able to block Mana from resting and generally keeping sand up as much as possible. In addition to the sand core, this team employs Chansey + Skarm to act as blanket checks for many offensive threats commonly used on the more offensive builds. The Reuni works as a great way to abuse Spikes and act as a strong win condition against bulky offensive teams, particularly those with Medi and Mega Lop. Rounding out the team is ditto, which prevents the setup sweepers that would otherwise be really irritating to this team from getting out of hand and also helps the matchup against cheese in general, particularly Sticky Web offense. Really solid team overall, the main threats to it are Mana rain and TPunch Mega Maw, but there's enough room to play against both that they usually aren't a huge problem.

Mob spent much of the cycle laddering with triple abuser rain, as it's an excellent way to gain ladder points quickly with the obscene offensive pressure exerted by Mega Pert + Mana + Ash Gren. This particular rain sort of throws away any significant defensive focus, lacking a Flying resist among other things, in favor for all out pressure to blitz and overwhelm opposing teams. However, the teams at the higher end of the ladder were amply prepped for rain, with Megatar and Maw + Rotom offenses being common, so Mob elected to switch teams to a bulky offensive team with SR Megatar and Z Kommo. This team aims take advantage of the current ladder trends by enough pressure on the aforementioned bulkier teams with SR Megatar + Keld while still having solid pivots like Gear, Torn-T, and Lando to fall back on against bulky offense. The team did well enough for Mob to qual with the number 3 spot in the cycle after notching some key wins late in the cycle.

ABR used various teams on his climb up the ladder, but for the tail end of his run he used a Maw HO that he made centered around keeping hazards off the field with Exca, then breaking with Serp and Mega Maw to make way for Volc and Gyara to sweep in the late-game. It's a pretty straightforward team and ended up doing well for him when he used it. During the tail end of the cycle ABR also used 4 different stall teams, ranging from Weav stall to the Shed stall pictured above based on various ladder trends and issues with the team(s) that he saw while laddering. The primary breakdown of the benefits for each version of the stall is that the Weav version performed the best against SD + Z Move Ground-types, the Shed version did the best against Mana rain, and the Glisc version did the best against Toxic Heatran. In addition to ABR, BK also used Shed + Volc stall near the tail end of the cycle for its strong matchup against rain and Maw offense, and it allowed him to qualify.

I didn't watch many games from qualifiers besides the ones that I showed above, but general trends for later in the cycle were that there was a TON of Mega Maw bulky offense from users like Chait as well as some more "weird" offenses from cycle contenders like Sjneider and Xtrashine. This was a really enjoyable cycle overall and I'm excited to spectate cycle 3 without having to worry about significant games being modjoined!

Im just going to post this here since the version on my archive is probably outdated by now, & everyone is using the other version now anyway,

Here's my Manaphy rain everyone has been using, This is basically the same rain team i made in 2018 but i made some updates by replacing Ash Greninja with Tapu Koko around November of 2018 to help vs Dark & Flying type moves. I made other various changes too such as making Peliper max defense with Hurricane to deal with set up sweepers like Substitute Flyinium-Z Gyarados, and to help with Kartana. However shoutouts to Insult for this idea but Peliper should be Pursuit cycle 3 & onward to trap Shedninja on stall. The other change i made to this team which was around OUPL (I think Hayburner suggested this) was also making Swampert Jolly to hit Scarf Kartana with Superpower alongside Ferrothorn & to revenge kill Magearna at +6. The biggest change however, is that i changed the Manaphy set to Rest Psychic with max HP which was the original set High Impulse made iirc to help tank hits & be harder to revenge kill. I ran max speed Modest 3 attacks during last years OLT to outspeed Adamant Zygarde which is now Banned and to beat Protect Tapu Bulu which was much more common at that time. I made the Bulky Manaphy change around OUPL Finals to help Insult beat Charmflash & I figured it would be a great pick vs his team choices at that time. Toxic is also a option over Psychic on Manaphy to hit Gastrodon, Mantine, & Mega Latias while also destroying Shed Stall, But luckily Water Absorb mons are not common in the meta right now. If you go with this change however, Make sure you replace Pursuit on Peliper for Hurricane or Knock Off. Speaking of Toxic, Toxic Ferrothorn is also a very important change to this team. With Ash Greninja gone this team is destroyed by Calm Mind Stored Power/Bolt-Beam Mega Latias otherwise. Toxic Ferrothorn also helps with Zapdos as it allows Tornadus to Taunt it on the switch getting damage off with Poison + Stealth Rocks while preventing it from Roosting. It also prevents it from stalling out Tapu Koko or even Swampert if its Pressure. Toxic also hits some set up sweepers such as Hawlucha, Charizard, Volcarona & it also targets Mega Alakazam which is a huge problem if played well. Tornadus is Taunt Knock Off on this team to help break & its just a amazing set in general personally i think it's the best Tornadus set by far right now and it destroys those flying resist Skarmory Semi-Stalls that are so popular right now. This is a Tornadus spread i made that lets you live a Breakneck Blitz from Kartana & a Ice Punch from Mega Medicham at full HP while retaining as much Bulk as possible. With 204 speed you still outspeed all the relevant mons such as Serperior & Choice Scarf Magnezone.
Tapu Koko was originally Choice Specs, but around OUPL I forgot who suggested it, it was ether Insult, Suapah, or King Kdot, but someone suggested Magnet Tapu Koko & with recent metagame trends such as weather being so prevalent,
(Swampert/Excadrill) & Mawile being so good, Magnet was a really nice idea.
With Thunder you are about as strong as a Choice Specs Thunderbolt & with the added power from Thunder, you always OHKO Mega Mawile while having the freedom to switch around moves.

Here's the original team lol, I made updates to this too if you prefer just breaking everything with the core of Mega Swampert, Waterium-Z Manaphy & Ash Greninja. Even with the flaws this team has, I still think this is the best version of Manaphy Rain right now, at least on ladder. Ash Greninja is one of the best mons on rain & Manaphy, Mega Swampert, & Ash Greninja form an insane breaking core. Unlike the Tapu Koko version there isn't any Electric Terrain to stop your Manaphy from Resting. The Peliper on this team is also Pursuit to trap Shedinja on stall & this is the team i used to reach 1800's fairly easily this cycle & last year. Personally while both teams are proven consistent I think the Koko version is better in maybe a Tournament setting while the Ash Greninja version is better for laddering, (You can use both wherever tbh) again shoutouts to Sayuze for suggesting the idea for this team last year & shoutout Ash KetchumGamer for putting it in the spotlight last year.

Shoutouts to Mob Barley BK Insult and everyone else for using my team or a variation of it & shoutout to whomever helped me edit this. Goodluck to whoever decides to use this & I might RMT the Tapu Koko version later on. My thoughts on OLT so far is that rain is very centralizing right now, on the ladder at least. We have players using Shed Stall just for it, when i first joined Smogon in 2017 i always had wanted to change the Metagame with one of my teams. Skarmory has also seen a spike in usage & I think its a pretty solid mon again & is a staple on Semi-Stall builds. OLT has been really fun so far & I can't wait to see what pepole decide to use cycle 3.

Hey, I hope every qualifier contributes to the discussion by sharing the team they used + why they used it, even if just the 6 mons instead of a paste. OLT ladder is always fascinating from a metagame perspective so I'd be glad to read everyone's take on it. As for me, I stalled pretty much all of low ladder / every day up until the final one, then I tried an offense for a change of pace.

The offense I used was centered around scarf Lele because it's incredible vs the frailer teams and particularly those that rely on Lopunny / Ash Gren for speed control. I debated sash Exca vs Lando for a bit but I decided Exca was better because spin allowed me to use key synergy picks that relied on rocks being off the field. Since I was using Lele as my main speed control instead of something like Lucha, I knew I needed to use mons that would trade favorably vs the omnipresent rain mons like Swampert, and thus I added Gyarados which, in my opinion, is a necessity on sash Exca offenses. Having a ground + water resist (particularly the ground part once you're not using Lando) is essential but also Z bounce Gyara with moxie is just a very dangerous sweeper vs nearly all types of teams. Given how common rain was I really wanted another water resist and something to help vs electrics like Rotom and Koko, so Serp was a natural fit. Mawile was added next because it's honestly the most consistent breaker in the tier but it also satisfied important defensive needs with intimidate and the steel typing. Lastly, Volcarona was my choice to finish the team as a check to Magearna, Scizor, and Kartana, while also punishing scarf Lando builds that revenged Gyara more easily.

As for set choices, Exca has standard moves but the spdef evs let it eat 4 shurikens from Gren so you have pretty good odds there. Lele has thunderbolt to revenge Gyarados but it's also a nice midground move in general and a harder hit vs Celes. Gyara is pretty standard, with eq over sub or taunt because it dissuades haze pex and hits Mawile + Magearna. Maw is fairly standard, with HP evs to live +2 lucha hjk. Volcarona is hpground over the optional psychic because Tran is much more of an issue than Pex, and lum is key vs random twave like Rotom Clef and Tran's toxic itself. Serp is unorthodox but I decided the backup defog was a neat option if I needed the alternative to enable Gyara or Volc. Taunt helps keep stuff like Tran sr off and glare is just the best supporting move. The EVs allow it to eat a hurricane from bulky Torn, with the rest in spa for general damage. Helmet is there to chip stuff like Pert, Lando, Chansey, Ferro and others into range for my other offensive mons.

Every year I have the temptation to stall the OLT ladder and try to figure out the way to have it beat the common stall breakers at the time. During last cycle and early on in this one I used more traditional Quag stalls (Sab Chans Pex Skarm Quag Volc / Weav) but i kept losing to rain, Lele, or Mawile among other things. With rain being omnipresent on ladder, I decided to try out Shedinja as my good friend teal6 suggested. Besides beating Manaphy, it also deals with most sets from Reuniclus, Clefable, Magearna, Latias, and Koko. Sash + prio + wisp in general lets it revenge most threats in a pinch if needed, mostly compensating for the lack of unaware on these teams. As for the last slot, I went from Hippo -> Quag -> Glisc and then kept Glisc but made a separate Volc version. Glisc is the most reliable because it helps with Tran, Z lando, Mawile to an extent, and even Ditto. The biggest draw here with regards to Ditto is that Pex + Glisc, with regen + poison heal, can outlast anything Ditto copies from your team with its infinite pp, so you never fall behind in the long run. By the end of the cycle I faced tons of Maw bulky offense and less stall so I made the last minute change to the Volcarona version, but still overall I recommend Gliscor.

Regarding sets, those for Sab Chans Skarm Shed are the same on both variants so I'll explain those first. I think physdef Sab is a viable option but overall I still usually prefer spdef to help deal with lefties Tran, Clef, Fini, Torn, and spiking Gren, with the moves being standard. Chansey is bell and can afford tox-less with the other toxic mons, particularly Pex as it deals with the special fires like Zard-Y and Volcarona. Skarm is toxic to actually beat sr grounds long term, and hp fire is for pure safety vs all Kartana sets. If Kartana uses a Z move it still has to attack and take helmet the following turn, while helmet + hp fire with 20 spa evs kills around 94% of the time. Shedinja has minimized bulk as it never uses it so you might as well make the Ditto copy more frail. Sneak and wisp are obligatory utility moves, while sd + x scis allows it to actually kill Mana and Reuni. For Pex sets, they have the same moves because toxic is required without toxic Chans and haze is required without an unaware user. The Glisc team has an actual volt stop vs mons like Zap and Rotom if need be so Pex doesn't just autolose to volt long term, and thus can afford Z toxic for taunters such as Gyarados and Z torn. Due to the Volcarona version lacking that stop to Zap and Rotom volt, I put black sludge on Pex to better deal with it long term. Glisc started out as knock for the long term chip vs stall, but at the moment I prefer toxic because it isn't fully walled by Z Lando, and you actually prefer using toxic vs Ditto instead of Knocking it because the next mon it copies won't have poison heal, yet it keeps the status. Volcarona outspeeds modest Tran with the rest of the investment going into defense to fend off the Mawile, Kyurem-B, and the grasses.

Here's what i used during this cycle and first one.

Ofc this aint a team that is going to let u qualify but its a fun one for the begin of the ladder. Since OLT is a long tour i wanted to start it relaxed without starting tryharding right from 1000s since i didnt care about gxe and just have as much fun as i could since last days/hours are always the hardest ones and the one that "stress" u the most, so i just wanted to take the begin easy and i have to say pika did a great job.
I used this till like 1900s or so, gonna post some replays :P.

Even though this might look the same team as abr's it is very different, i made this by fixing the mantine stall i used sometimes during my ST ssn to qualify and thats what came out. Thats supposed to be a ladder cteam, as u can see it lacks some key members that a stall always wants such an unaware mon or in general a way to force out heavy threats (such ditto) thats why i think this team should never be used in a tour game or outside of the ladder in general, but yea we are talking about ladder so its ok.
My pex there is icium, z-haze pex is very helpful in this team since as we have alrdy seen the team has no unaware mon and having the chance to recover all ur hp and restore stats at the same time is very helpful in many situations such taunt mons, sd mawile, hawlucha etc...
For sab i picked a phys def set with foul play, i think that at the moment this sab set is the best one i started using this since when SD Grounds and SD Kartana started being more popular, some calcs:
+2 252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 248 HP / 244+ Def Sableye-Mega: 234-276 (77.2 - 91%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Sableye-Mega Foul Play vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kartana: 315-372 (121.6 - 143.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 244+ Def Sableye-Mega: 220-259 (72.6 - 85.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Sableye-Mega Foul Play vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Landorus-Therian: 366-432 (114.7 - 135.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Garchomp Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 248 HP / 244+ Def Sableye-Mega: 243-286 (80.1 - 94.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 244+ Def Sableye-Mega: 204-240 (67.3 - 79.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO.
As u can see on skarm i have the combination of counter + spikes and a good amount of speed evs, the speed evs are to be faster than mawile and chip it with the helmet by recovering if the 4atks set while u can just recover and counter the SD Knock one. Spikes are there because many of the ditto balanced/semi stall that have been used had no hazard control or if they did it was excadrill that had not easy moments to spin and usually used ferro or lando as rock setter (so no way they would set up their hazard with Sab and then force me to defog) and it means that even by facing a ditto while u using a stall u will still win the match up.
Talking about shedinja i did try 3 different sets, the one on the import and those 2:
Shedinja @ Protective Pads
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Screech
- X-Scissor
- Shadow Sneak
- Will-O-Wisp

Shedinja @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak
- X-Scissor
Protective pads is not a known item and thats why it works even better, is great on shedinja since it makes him immune to contact effects so Rough Skin, Helmet, Iron Barbs etc... so u can just feel free to click x-scissor or shadow sneak against all those clus, some nadus in range etc... by not worry about dying from contact ability, screech>sd is there cause of more pps. Safety goggles one has the same set as the focus sash so i guess it doesnt need any explaination.

The last team i used was the standard manaphy rain that im not obv gonna post since everyone knows the sets and how it works, so thats all, hope u enjoy!!!

Cycle 2 was so much more intense than the first. The preparing that went into rain from ladderers made it so any rain user couldnt flawlessly keep their wins as consistent as cycle 1. For example my alt in cycle 1 had 91.8 gxe compared to a less stellar 87.8 in cycle 2. I ran rain until the last two hours of the previous cycle where I just had enough and felt a different approach was needed, so yeah Mannat summed up my experience quite well. In particular it was mainly due to the high volume of rotom, mega latias, mawile, medichams and even ditto that would be consistently keep forcing out aggressive play from me. After awhile it gets tiresome having to play like a try hard to bust out wins and laddering on auto pilot is dreadful.

Anyway I'm just going to go into detail about some specifics on my rain variant because its mainly all i used, maybe I'll list the other team later. Now I know rain is generic with the 'big 5' and clearly boring at times because of this but come take a gander to the detail on the way you should ev rain and put together move sets. It makes all the difference on overall consistency which at times will decide the fate of a game

https://pokepast.es/3c54a5646e30e63f

Jolly Swampert should imo be the only swampert at this point in time. Its able to revenge kill a far larger pool of speedy mons such as +2 magearna, timid magearna outside of rain, scarf kartana, celebrate victini are a few examples. This plays a massive role in saving face in some heated moments. It's worth running every time in my experience

252 Atk Swampert-Mega Superpower vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kartana: 230-272 (88.8 - 105%) -- guaranteed OHKO after 1 layer of Spikes

When dealing with kartana which is not ideal for a rain team to be pivoting from, a bit of chip damage goes a very long way. Whether it be from iron barbs, helmet torn, or hazards its helpful in the stretch

The Tornadus spread is excellent with 240/64/204+ and objectively the perfect helmet spread. The evs still outspeed scarf zone and deals with its main grass targets being kartana and serperior while also having a guaranteed survival from ice punch medicham unlike the max timid sets. Everyone i played on the ladder would every single time out-speed me with their own helmet torns which leads me to believe more people than not opt for max speed and the calc even has that locked in as well for 252/252. Again compare these torn calcs my fellow defiant speed demons

252 Atk Pure Power Medicham-Mega Ice Punch vs. 240 HP / 64 Def Tornadus-Therian: 304-358 (84.6 - 99.7%)
252 Atk Pure Power Medicham-Mega Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tornadus-Therian: 328-388 (90.6 - 107.1%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

252 Atk Kartana Breakneck Blitz (200 BP) vs. 240 HP / 64 Def Tornadus-Therian: 311-367 (86.6 - 102.2%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Kartana Breakneck Blitz (200 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tornadus-Therian: 337-397 (93 - 109.6%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

Yikes. You accomplish everything with the bulkier spread, the window between 361-375 is worthless anyway and you dont miss anything.

Manaphy has now been exposed, the first cycle it was easy to abuse but alas the ladder has adapted. It bamboozles me why anyone would ever use azumarill as a slot when manaphy exists with a more reliable boosting move, better bulk, better speed, broken recovery. It outclasses azu in every way (whys it even ou). That of course changed in a weeks time but this to me is the ideal manaphy set. Now a lot of people don't run ice beam as the filler, i see more people go for psychic which has basically one function at nailing pex without a z move. This is erroneous to go such a route. You need to be nailing bulky grasses with ice beam especially bulu who can even tect ur Z waterium with impunity. Not only that but mega latias is super annoying for rain too and ice beam will leave it unable to check you.

+3 252+ SpA Manaphy Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Tapu Bulu: 334-394 (97.3 - 114.8%) (no one even runs 252/252+ anyway, so it'll always go down but just to show you the reliability of the power)

+3 252+ SpA Manaphy Ice Beam vs. +1 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega: 212-250 (58.2 - 68.6%)

Usually through my experience a latias user will try to rush in and try to wall you by calm minding respectively, them assuming ur going for a water z but their plan goes out the window once u start beaming. Z chomper is also a nasty threat that gets manhandled without a zmove or boost with icebeam and theres a 3/4 chance you win the fight with minimal hp

252 Atk Garchomp Devastating Drake (190 BP) vs. 48 HP / 0 Def Manaphy: 310-366 (87.8 - 103.6%) -- 25% chance to OHKO

Notice the modest nature is incredibly important for taking out pex/ferro after a layer of hazards

+3 252+ SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Toxapex in Rain: 275-324 (90.4 - 106.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after rocks
+3 252 SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Toxapex in Rain: 250-294 (82.2 - 96.7%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after rocks

+3 252+ SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ SpD Ferrothorn in Rain: 322-380 (91.4 - 107.9%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
+3 252 SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ SpD Ferrothorn in Rain: 294-346 (83.5 - 98.2%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Very important when trying to sweep and maintain momentum, pretty sure no one wants to get hazed or power whipped to the dome. The speed hits 288 which creeps gyarados which the flynium Z set is very annoying for rain to face. getting even an unboosted waterium on gyara for chip can end up being super reliable and also if ur sweeping it wont cut it short. The remains of the team is just standard stuff. Sp def ferro with double hazards that throws some people off balance on the ladder. Knock is tempting to use along side but dual stabs offers the most pressure dealing with opposing rain types with whip and most importantly pressuring tornadus therians and magearnas with gyro. Leech is not the goal here, you're looking to deal with water types and set hazards. Greninja uses ice beam as the filler since spikes is already on ferro. Does wonderfully in luring in grasses that are eager to prevent you from getting a battle bond off. Pelliper is just there to fog and u turn, I see some people who prefer having hurricane on peliper and leaving torn as a more reliable fogger but taunt tornadus is so useful in asserting pressure and stall breaking. Its far too valuable to give up so I'd leave the grass removal for torn alone or to take ferro and jam up ur hazards if ur opponent wants to just sit there with their grasses

Good luck to the final two cyclists. I'm pretty bummed that you guys can no longer io next your games. It isn't right imo to have restricted privatizing matches this far along since the first two cyclists like me had the freedom to play undisturbed by potential set leakers and cringe commentary. This shouldn't of been implemented half way thru but it is what it is. May the greatest trainers prevail

Hii Guys I’m Lazarillo. I watched the level of the rest of the post and is too high for me but i will try to do the things the best as posible.

My gxe is low than others because i had a really slow start my first and second team were inconsistant to laddering confortably so i will only talk in deep about the last one.

I used three Squads during my OLT run. Firstly a Veil with thundu Iapapa Berry and other 3 random mons + Lando. The only important thing to mention about the build was the born of a custap berry lando with rocks, eq, defog and explosion. Sounds pretty random but is a great anti excadrill rock tomb lead, You can keep the rocks on the field and often vs HO teams like Espeon volc team are really usefull to catch some easy and relaxing wins.

My second team was an HO with Z victini mega Gyara, Hawlucha, lele, Koko and lando. The build works well until 2000 but the meta during the cycle evolves and the increase of stall and mega latias rape my squad. And the jolly M swampert in rain outspeed Z Tini after the boost.

https://pokepast.es/d1bdf4fc24d6ffe8

My idea began because i need a team to win confortable vs rain and at the same time have a great Match up vs stall or semi stall and with chances to win vs other HO. The reason to build around mega mawile was simple. In my opinion is the best mega to these playstyle. Then I decide to put KoKo and Lele. Both are really good spa attackers and Helps to eliminate checks or mega mawile like celestela, lando, gliscor, ferro, magearna, heatran and Skarmory. Then i need a water resit and Z move user. I choose Gyarados because the Flynium set go for the same counters than Mawile and helps me a lot vs Rain Teams. Then i put the same lando custap from the veil team. The boom was usefull to destroy rotom or tornadus And these open the sweep to my gyara and the last mon of the team serperior, offer me a secondary water resist and a glare support. Moreover is other strong spa attacker to do a good chip to counters of Gyara and mawile Sweep. And with some mons behind a para sometimes you could have a potential free Dd or SD.

Now i explain the reason of my evs and move set of each pokemon. I put 88 evs on speed to Mawile. With these spread you have a really nice bulk and you outspeed clefable and av mag. I Choose intimidate instead of Hyper cutter because with the hab mega tyranitar, kartana and other Physical attackers destroys my team. The set SD play rough, Knock off and sucker punch is the best in these meta because the usage of Scizor mega is not too high in the ladder nowadays and mawile behind a sd is a dangerous threat. Sucker helps me to chip on protein gren and hit lando scarf in front of him and other fast mons.

Gyarados is the secondary physicall big threat of the team. Behind a dd is really difficult of stop. I choose jolly Nature instead of adamant because jolly +1 outspeed koko and + 2 the rain swepers. The hab is moxie to obtain a boost when gyara complete a kill. The move pool is dd three atacks With out taunt. The reason was simple i have theee stall breakers and i need eartquake to hit hard magearna (the build is weak to TR or shift gear set) and one hit ko koko behind a DD.

My third choice was tapu koko. The specs set is so good and powerfull. You need a little bit of prediction bit you hit hard mag, one hit ko lando or garchomp and fairy and electric are great offensive stabs to spam. T bolt do a good chip vs magearna and to some resístase like ferro. Zone and other kokos, Volt Switch is a great move to keep momentum. Koko helps a lot to check hawlucha, pinsir and tornadus T and outspeed greninja before ash form. Really crutial because i haven t got speed control or a scarfer.

The fourth choice was lele basically because i need a solid Stall breaker. I put 184 evs in speed because with these spread you outspeed modest z move rotom wash. But if you want, you can put more bulk on hp and the speed necesary to outspeed mega tyranitar jolly before a DD. I choose metronome item because break chansey, cm M-latias and other fat walls really Easy. I decide a set 4 attacks without taunt because i need the coverage to hits well everything. Hp fire is to mega scizor en ferro, focus blast to heatran, and mega tyranitar and pyshock and Moonblast are powerfull stab moves. The role of this moon is weak the checks and counters to mawile and gyarados.

Mi 5th choice is Landorus T, because is a solid ground type and give me other intimidate to check well big HO threats like Lopunny and mega mawile. I dicide to run adamant Nature with evs in speed to outspeed zapdos because i have more bulk than a sash set and mi idea of the lando is not a suicide lead exactly. I need rocks, defog and at the same team a powerfull explosion to do a big damage vs rotom wash, tornadus t and other bulky water types. 248 Hp helps a lot to check decently kartana scarf. Finally i decide put Custap Berry. In some situation are so good because the people didn t expect the set and i go for the boom vs the fastest mons of actual metagame and give me a defog or rocks in some tough scenarios.

Finally i need a glue tu suport the rest of the team and the perfect feed is serperior. Serp is a powerfull Special attacker and the sub, glare, leaf storm and hp fire set is really annoyed to actual metagame. The paralysis are crutial to stop set up swepers and tu support mi slow breakers like lele and mawile. And with their contrary hab spam leaf storm is really painfull to some offensive or BO offensive teams.

The team Is weak to some sets of mag gren protein and zard y but if you play well is not a 6-0 match.

I share some replays to the fans. And these a nice form to saw the power of this build. Enjoy it.

LETS FUCKING NOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hey guys, this is probably my first post that doesn't say "in" or "won ggs" so bear with me. Overall, I'm happy I got to qualify in the first cycle I participated in after a rough grand slam and just missing qualifying in smogtour. Regarding this OLT, it all went fairly well till the last 2 hours which were extremely stressful. I mostly used 1 hyper offense low ladder and then for the rest of the tour 3 different versions of innards out pyukumuku semi stall/balance.

188556

Basically an edited version of the offense by Empo last OLT. Really like lead diancie for it's ability to basically always trade positively with other setters (or going even in the case of playing a lead excadrill) and especially for the huge help it provides vs stall, usually putting chansey in range of magearna or pex in range of gyarados or even both. Victini helps with the offense mu as well as the stall mu. the rest of members are kinda just picked to cover offensive threats like lele and ash gren whilst still being huge tools in breaking and or sweeping. LO kart also helps break zapdos for gyarados.

188582

I've been testing with different type of innards out pyukumuku teams since the dugtrio ban really seeing as to how in SM OU there seem to be a ton of different breakers that need fairly niche mons to check them on stall. Dugtrio could revenge kill a ton of these mons (Hoopa-U, mawile, tran, pex, special ghosts, koko and ttar). Whilst Pyukumuku obviously is way worse at the task than dugtrio, its still super helpful to just be able to prevent some of those mons from breaking your entire team in pieces. Moreover, it can take down a select few with it that dugtrio never could (Serperior/kartana). The biggest problems pyukumuku probably faces are magic guard calm minders and taunters such as heatran.

The bottom team is the team I used vs Chill Shadow in wcop qualifiers and the one I've been spamming the most. I used the v1 at the start, then went to v2 because I felt the first team was too weak to excadrill and arguably kartana. v2 has a way worse matchup vs rain though which gave me reason to change back to an edited of version 1 at the end of the cycle. Version 1 weaknesses are probably taunt torn, fini, excadrill and mega heracross.

Some set explanations:

Pyukumuku @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Innards Out
Level: 96
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Def / 0 SpD
- Spite
- Recover
- Rest
- Block

Enough hp to pp stall chansey and lowered defense since the priority to kill is stuff like mawile. it's essential to trade say spikes vs opposing mawile teams if they put up spikes just so pyukumuku kills mawile with it. Another nice thing to do is to sack your Pyukumuku to Magnezone so your Ferrothorn can't be trapped.
Calcs:
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 0- Def Pyukumuku: 288-339 (95.6 - 112.6%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 0- Def Pyukumuku: 320-378 (106.3 - 125.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0- Def Pyukumuku: 413-486 (137.2 - 161.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO 224 Atk Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 252 HP / 0- Def Pyukumuku: 291-343 (96.6 - 113.9%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
+1 20 SpA Blacephalon Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Pyukumuku: 348-409 (115.6 - 135.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-952881654

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 8 SpA / 160 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Knock Off
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Since the team is somewhat weak to kartana and quite weak to scizor if toxapex doesn't burn, I decided to put HP Fire on Ferrothorn + some defense investment to help 1v1 both these mons.
Calcs:
252 Atk Choice Band Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 252 HP / 88+ Def Ferrothorn: 254-300 (72.1 - 85.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery 8 SpA Ferrothorn Hidden Power Fire vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Kartana: 260-308 (100 - 118.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
8 SpA Ferrothorn Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 88-104 (25.6 - 30.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO + Leech Seed + Iron Barbs allows Ferrothorn to 1v1 Scizor

Reuniclus @ Psychium Z
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Imprison
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Recover

I used to run DD Reuniclus, but changed it to imprison with some spdef to help with more specific matchups. Specifically, it helps with other cm pokemon and unaware Quagsire and unaware Pyukumuku. Psychium Z to beat SD Gliscor and get an extra boost so stuff like Mega Latias can't PP stall you. Speed isn't needed on this Reuniclus because Toxapex can't recover on it anyway. The added SpDef helps vs opposing CM Lati@s etc.

thanks TPP for the graphics
- Mega Latias was all over the place this cycle. Specifically, you saw sets that ran Ice Beam and Recover alongside two of Calm Mind, Stored Power, Thunder, Thunder Wave, and even occasionally Defog. The most threatening variants are those that have Calm Mind, of course, and you saw them on multiple qualifying teams. Calm Mind Mega Latias poses an almost immediate threat when paired with Stored Power given how strong it gets when you stack boosts. Moreover, between being able to check things like Kartana, Tapu Bulu, non-Toxic Heatran, Swords Dance Gliscor, etc. and being able to be an anti-balance win condition in a pinch, it should be somewhat unsurprising that Mega Latias is improving in usage throughout the course of OLT.

- Excadrill has a number of different uses in the metagame right now. First and foremost, it is seen as a Stealth Rock / Rapid Spin lead on HO teams, which have been quite common on the ladder and this holds very much true with the ABR team posted above seeing lots of usage specifically. On top of this, you will also see it on Sand builds, which finally started to pop up throughout the middle of this cycle. While Excadrill is not quite as prominent as some top tier threats still, it is definitely seeing an uptick in usage and for good reason. One could expect to see even more of it during the fourth cycle.

- Picking up where it left off, Manaphy is absolutely thrashing the ladder on Rain builds. Running a set usually of Tail Glow, Surf, Psychic, and Rest with Hydration can go a long way. A couple players opted for Toxic over Psychic, but this is still regarded as a bit cheesy, and Ice Beam is also a viable option there. Regardless, With Waterium Z and Surf in Rain, Manaphy already has potential to hit ridiculously hard. Pair this with superb natural bulk, some investment, and Hydration + Rest in Rain and Manaphy becomes an absolute terror to any slower teams that lack a very specific countermeasure such as Shedinja, Pyukumuku, Clear Smog SpDef Gastrodon, or one of a few other uncommon things. Manaphy is quite high in usage, especially relative to where it was before OLT, and one can expect this to be maintained moving forward.

- While I have never personally been a fan of Charizard-Y strategies in SM, one player qualified with it and another player came very close to qualifying with it. It makes sense that it is seeing at least decent usage, which is a lot more than could once be said, seeing as it is able to remove other weathers, threaten entire balance builds that lack Toxapex or Mega Latias, and force pretty consistent switches in match-ups that do have those Pokemon, perhaps opening the window for teammates to take advantage of this. While there is a pretty sizable need for team support and there are some problematic match-ups, Charizard-Y has proven to be a very viable option on the ladder during this cycle.

Notable Teams

- This balance team was used by Tricking to climb the ladder without much trouble at all, taking the first spot for the cycle in less games than other qualifiers in any other position and dominating almost every game seen. He piloted it a bit more aggressively than most play balance and it paid massive dividends, leading to a pretty stress-free qualification due to how consistent the team is in generating winnable match-ups through the intermittent pressure the combination of win-conditions and hazards/status provided by the team itself. In addition to tricking, multiple other qualifiers used this team during the closing stretch in order to solidify their position, cementing this as a very strong option on the ladder.

(
/
) - Rain, mainly seen in the two forms shown, is still running rampant on the ladder. While there are some sightings of classic Hawlucha variants, Manaphy seems to be taking over the archetype and it is no shock as to why. As alluded to above, Manaphy is an absolute monster to slower teams and regardless of those match-ups, it is still very strong and possesses great longevity. Overall, these teams apply great pressure and are able to win more match-ups than other HO teams, which was shown off by the runs of Ash, Typhlosion48, and numerous others who scaled the ladder this cycle.

- This momentum oriented balance featuring Protean Greninja and Mega Mawile has been featured consistently on the higher portion of the ladder, most notably used in hundreds of games by Chaitanya. The great part of this team is that it is rarely on the back foot despite having sufficient defensive presences. These teams require outplaying to pilot, but you have a decent chance in more match-ups than not because of this. Making use of the classic Tapu Bulu + Heatran core, the backbone of this team is well-equipped for the ladder and the threats that it throws at the team in any given match-up, making it no surprise how well it has functioned over time this cycle.

- While nobody directly qualified with this team during the cycle, a plethora of individuals used it to scale up the ladder going into the later stages of the cycle and some others used it throughout the week, including near the top of the ladder. If you laddered throughout the week, you likely ran into this team and similar HOs dozens of times and had to form pretty specific game-plans, specifically revolving around being ready for the early game set-up, in order to combat the team as a whole. You should expect more of this to come in cycle four a HO is a timeless ladder strategy and this team is one of the most common and consistent variants of HO.

Updated Kanto

Banned deucer.
Laddering was so frustrating because admittedly there being a lot of Mega Latis made it hard for the team i was planning to use (the team xtra used in cycle 2) to win because when lati starts cming my only real counter is freeze shock kyuremb and with zardy seeing some usage it was also hard because of the lack of fire resists. Aside from MLatias on balance and Manaphy on Rain Reuniclus was also up there in high usage on the ladder
I just wanted to give a quick shoutout to Empo power for telling me to get some games on the deadline day ( i was 1840 elo and was planning on just spectating the final hour and trying next cycle) and xtra$hine for reminding me its ladder n with ho im gonna get some bad match ups where I can't do anything but take the L and i shouldnt let it tilt me also big shoutout to lt63rb tiful for showing nothing but disrespectful behavior only to drop 300 points GG

got murked by hax, matchups and playing like shit after getting burned out lol. Hit a disappointing peak during the entire experience of 1927.

gonna do a small overview of my experience + what I used over each cycle cause I know people like snatching teams. As Ske once said, players play and get recognition, builders build and get their shit stolen ;)

Cycle 1:

within the first 24 hours of cycle 1 I got into the 1800s with no sweat. was able to maintain that position for a while but then all the rain spam had caught up, causing me to tilt a little into the 1700s and getting stuck there with no return

- The OG Baloor HO. Used during low ladder run. (I no longer have the port for this team, all the others were outdated)
- Moved from hazard stack to screens cause I consider it more effective for the olt ladder atm. baloor ho part 2
- Lop + Tini Offense I made that served me well on ladder and some tours before olt, however, in hindsight it wasn't ready for manaphy rain. but its still good at pissing off ladder heroes!_!
- My Mage + Prot Gren Hazard Stack that I used before OLT. Team also struggles with manaphy rain. latias set could and probably should be changed around but this is the version I used

Cycle 2:

seeing how ridiculously dominant rain was I decided to use it myself. along with two teams I already had in the back which did have a fair m/o with rain. got stuck in 1800s this cycle.

- baloor mew screens
- Ske Manaphy Rain, in this thread
- Charizard X + Rotom-W BO I made just a bit before olt. good team. charizard x just isnt the best pick in rain meta
- My most infamous squad from last years olt. its seen a lot of tour success over the past year and was used by more than just me during this olt. S/O Ske for updating it. STOP SAYING THIS IS SKES SQUAD JESUS FUCK. thanks for using this squad though

Cycle 3:

lost my sanity this cycle so I built so new teams designed just to cuck rain. this is the cycle I peaked in (s/o serp grass spam) because of the usage of rain being really high this cycle.

- Ske Rain, port in this thread
- Grass Z Tran + Bulu. Tran lures in the scariest rain threats and blows them back. With Rotom, Bulu and Gren to annoy it in the back. Switched between Pin Missle, Sub and Bullet Seed on Heracross alot. Baloor Made, Ske Approved.
- Shed Stall, look in this thread lazy fuck
- Grass Spam, Scarf Serp + CB Bulu thrash rain using magnezone to get rid of ferro so they can do their thing. S/O Its all RNG for building this with me
- Wanted to make spdef dnite + some goons after I got tossed by it in a game, and what can I say? its effective.

Cycle 4:

Time was running short but I was determined to qualify. I used cheese to get back up to 1800 day one and stagnated around the 1700-1800 range all cycle. I made one final push today to break to the 1900s but I was too burned out after 4 weeks of this bullshit and facing absolute luck madmans + my brain randomly throwing games. I tilted into the 1600s and raged quit olt because im too busy the rest of today to ladder 500 pts.

Ske Rain, grab the port from his post and like it u slob
ABR HO, port somewhere else in the thread
- Saw a post in the workshop for lo and decided to build it. rain was lowering in usage as fat became the preferred tryhard style to maintain spots on the ladder. lo clef loves ur fat teams. built this and it came out fairly solid. problems with zor and kart but what can you do. if u find a way to fix that issue message me!

overall thoughts;

i swear the devs implement a bot on ladder to reward the most ridiculous shit. by the end of it I was too burned out to play good during most my ladder sessions. 1800 is for the true warriors
s/o to all the ladder warriors who not in olt but still decided to play higher ladder with their chansey skarm offenses and their other cheese squads

Quick post before i go to bed, i promised i wouldnt do this to myself anymore (tryin to qualify for olt cuz its too much stress lol) but i guess im addicted to this game yo.

I guess the fun of talkin to friends while running though top8 is a pleasure so that compensates for the stress ! Shoutouts to all the nice people that gave me a good word during the 2 last cycles : VSX (ur the G and u could so easily qualify, and it would have been harder for me without ur support, lets do this together next year), Momo, King Blunder (the King whats to add), Driver Bus (ill become as strong as u) Poire, Cora, Teclis, Blux, Jabar (good memories from JVC)...everyone else who pm'd me u know who u are guys thanks for the kind words. Oh and Jhonx, my run is ur run too brother, SHOUTOUT BULLIES & AGENCY :pimp:

Regarding the teams i used, that is pretty simple, took my 2 teams from last year and adapted to this new olt meta with some tricks, there u go :

190782

https://pokepast.es/cb081cb19310a794

190783

https://pokepast.es/43366ce12fbbda34

Here, crawdaunt became SD cuz it threatens so much the whole meta. Good vs fat, and offense with strong prio. Z fight mag instead of fairy cuz heatran and ferro everywhere. Specs blace is the best so kept it as it is. And HW Lop to bring one of those strong mons to life.

Shoutout to the people who made it and a little word to all the nice people who were close to making it (Archangel, Gorgie etc...), the game we play is unfair, shoutout to u too.

Lets have a good one :afrostar: in PO !

Hi ou forum I started learning the usm metagame this cycle and somehow I ended up at the 2070s [LT64sz archangel]
The last game I searched ended up being a mob barley rain mirror which I would've won but the MU is always losable as long as your opponent's gren flinches your mana with the one dpulse it's got (guess what happened). that netted me -30, less than half an hour before DL so that's that. Congrats to my one and only day 1 pal Liones and to the other qualifiers as well

I tested nearly every viable common paste that is getting passed around right now and I truly think that OLT is a great tournament that helps developing the OU metagame in several ways. Shoutout to Mob Barley his manaphy rain is incredible as long as pivoted correctly and I picked it up as a friend wanted me to try to qualify in the last hours. I tested decidueye (LOL paste here: https://pokepast.es/772386d3cc4f0f01 ) so I was in the 1800s, picked up mob rain and went like 18-1 to 2070. Never thought the day would come I'd be praising a mob team after facing him and his ungodly poliwrath+cress stall way too many times back in oras but here I am what can I say..

Thanks to the people that weren't losers on the ladder that made learning enjoyable, I personally always start the battle with an "hf" and more people responded positively surprised than it was ever the case in oras. I'd be grateful if people who play usm would hit me up for tests, metagame discussion or to mess around w niche picks as I was out of the game for years. Erzengel#0298 just hmu for tests and teambuilding.
Expecting to see exciting playoffs and looking forward to Smogon Tour 28. Have a nice day everyone
