:bw/kyurem-black:
Though having an almost 50% chance to be seen in any BW game in this tour, it somehow manages to garner a great positive winrate just because of how powerful, bulky, and versatile it can be.

:bw/scrafty:
Seen at 2nd place Scrafty has cemented itself as the most popular Intimidate user, setting itself apart from others with the Dark-typing, allowing it to deal damage to Cresselia while having a naturally great bulk.

:bw/politoed: :bw/kingdra: :bw/thundurus:
Rain is super overprepped for. Politoed had a 30% winrate, and the abusers of Rain (Kingdra, Thundurus) both saw a 33% winrate, which sucks. This doesn't mean Rain is bad by any means, just it causes a lot of 50/50s and a lot of people see it as a big threat in the builder.

:bw/metagross:
Metagross is a great anti-meta pick, with a 63% winrate and hard countering the omnipresent Kyurem-Black, while also walling Psychic-types and other Dragon-types commonplace in the meta.

:bw/deoxys-attack:
Hyper offensive staple of the meta, somehow maintaining a positive winrate though how frail and 50/50 based it is with Protect running rampant.

:bw/ninetales: :bw/charizard: :bw/abomasnow:
Sun and Hail suck. These Pokemon all had horrible winrates, with the most redeeming out of all of them being Ninetales with a 40% winrate, but Charizard managed to get a 0% winrate and Abomasnow having a 16% winrate. Please don't use these, they're just bad.

:bw/shaymin-sky:
Haha funny how its 66% winrate is almost the same chance as its Air Slash flinching...

:bw/infernape:
h
22.22% winrate is quite bad lol, just showing that a lot more people are more successful with other Fighting-types like Scrafty.

:bw/chandelure:
Wow this almost won all of its games, Fire- and Ghost-typing is really nice in this meta since with a Ghost Gem it does a lot of damage to commonplace Psychic-types, and with Fire Gem it can just nuke a lot of things with a 210 BP Overheat. Quite an underused pick in the meta.

:bw/heatran:
Another Fire-type with a high winrate! Trick Room Eruption is super strong and it can also just go the offensive route. Good matchups against Kyurem-Black, Genesect, and even things like Scrafty were probably what got it there.

:bw/kyurem:
Just outclassed by Kyurem-Black, why even use this

:Kingdra: Kingdra has been banned from BW 2v2! :Kingdra:
Participants in the latest BW 2v2 tour with an individual game winrate of 50% or above were given a vote to decide the fate of Kingdra and Kyurem-Black in the meta.

Lkjc - 12 wins 2 losses
stableprince569 - 6 wins 5 losses
TurtalKatThing - 5 wins 5 losses
pqs - 4 wins 3 losses
Itchyfoot - 3 wins 3 losses
zioziotrip - 3 wins 3 losses (counting act loss as 0-3)
Vrji - 7 wins 7 losses

The votes and reasonings are as follows:

Kyurem-Black: Unban
Kingdra: Ban

Kingdra restricts teambuilding to an insane degree, with teams basically being forced to run a special wall that can tank water moves or a water absorbing ability (eg Chansey, Jellicent) and has no offensive counters because it is only weak to dragon which is easily taken care of by its own dragon coverage. Even a bulky mon like dragonite can’t live a draco meteor without maximum special defense investment.
252+ SpA Dragon Gem Kingdra Helping Hand Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Multiscale Dragonite: 327-385 (84.7 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Kingdra warps what Pokémon are used in the meta to a high degree, making sets like Choice Scarf Deoxys-Attack and Haban Dragonite viable when they would otherwise be completely outclassed.

Kyurem-Black, on the other hand, is naturally countered by many Pokémon in the meta without forcing extreme countermeasures. KyuB has severe 4 move slot syndrome which stops it from being a huge threat because it cannot run Draco Meteor, Ice Beam, Fusion Bolt, Earth Power, Protect, and Hidden Power Fire on the same set. Not to mention that running Hidden Power Fire (which would beat checks like ferrothorn) requires Kyub to lose speed IVs which is huge for the kyub ditto. It is also outsped by a majority of other dragons that can either kill outright or run haban to live a hit. The most common fake out users: Scrafty, Hitmontop, and Infernape are all good natural checks to Kyub. Steel types resist both of Kyub’s stabs and can OHKO Kyub most of the time. There are too many Pokémon in the meta that just beat Kyub without trying for Kyub to be considered broken in my eyes.
KYUB: Unban

kingdra: unban

not really that overcentralizing imho, rain is an annoying mu and its something you wanna worry about but its not like you have to go really out of your way to check it.
Kyurem-Black: Ban
Kingdra: Ban
Kyurem-Black: Ban
Kingdra: Ban

While I don't necessarily think these mons are overpowered, they do restrict teambuilding in such a way that makes it very difficult to build proper teams.
The main thing that would make me go against a Kingdra ban is that the duo loses to most TR, even though that's not even true in some cases.
I've found myself having to use Haban Kingdra or Haban Kyurem-Black as Kingdra and Kyurem-Black answers, which is the opposite of helping.
Kingdra having only dragon as a type weakness and no real type resist combination outside of Ferrothorn is kinda bonkers, making it very difficult to reliably counter with how many sets it can run.
Kyub.. You have to run a steel type. No workarounds here kek.
Kyurem-Black: ban
Kingdra: ban

In my opinion Kingdra is the main issue, mainly because of its defensive typing, being only week to dragon, but dragons obviously get shattered by its incredibly fast and powerful draco meteor. This lack of offensive answers that don't lose to its speed and power restricts answers while teambuilding to mostly passive specially defensive pokemon like Chansey and Jellicent (who unrelatedly can struggle against politoed's encore), or redirection spam (which is generally considered unhealthy). Yes Kyurem-Black can theoretically beat Kingdra but that requires a humongous amount of SpDef and an item slot.

However with the ban of Kingdra, Kyurem-Black (who is already oppressive enough with its hillariously overpowered Base Stats) loses its main fast offensive check and would likely become even more oppressive, which is why in my opinion it should be banned too.
KyuB: Unban
KyuB is good, but not banworthy. You do have to respect it in team preview, but it's not too overwhelming if you have something to deal with it.

Kingdra: Unban
Kingdra lost more than it won in the tour. Rain is only really good if you don't bring anything to deal with it.
Kyurem-Black: Ban
Kingdra: Ban

these mons are just kinda absurd and impact the tier negatively

Kyurem-Black gets 4/7 votes and therefore does not meet the 60% threshold required to be banned.

Kingdra gets 5/7 votes and meets the 60% requirement to be banned.

Council will be looking at Kyurem-Black in the coming months for a retest if it becomes too much to handle without Kingdra in the meta.

Le Creme Brule has been added to the SM 2v2 Council, congrats! We hope to update this tiers' resources along with getting new samples before 2v2 Classic in about two weeks.

Expect an ORAS Update soon, as turtalkatthing has joined the council to asist me in those changes.

As always, thanks for reading and have a nice day.

If anyone would like to analyze the shifts pqs turtalkatthing D2TheW you are more than welcome to

So... I recently learnt that snorlax is banned in SM 2v2, as it was not freed after the disconnect from DOU. Upon digging further in the suspect thread pqs found, snorlax was banned for the following reasons:
-belly drum in trick room can sweep entire teams and is generally frustrating to play against
-heal pulse and recycle give it endless recovery
-trapping with it is really broken
-fighting types aren't viable
While these things definitely apply in DOU, I don't think they do in 2v2. Getting up trick room is a bit harder as targetting down the tr setter is easier without previous team support, heal pulse is much harder to pull off, and trapping is nonexistent. 2v2 also has both mega lopunny and medicham solidly ranked in B tier, both of those readily taking out snorlax without any fuss.
We can therefore unban snorlax in 2v2 with good conscience.
Personally I don't think a suspect is necessary, asking around I don't think many people seriously think snorlax should stay banned, it seems to be an oversight more than anything.

Hi! Going to dump all the teams I used in 2v2 Classic Playoffs to "grow the metagames" or something like that! I wish I could have built 9 new teams per round but I'm way too busy so I just recycled the original set >_<

R1 vs. D2
Looking at the usage stats from SM Cup, I wanted to use Tapu Koko + Kyurem-Black. Landorus-Therian and Mega Charizard Y were added as Steel checks, while the former acted as speed control and the latter helped check opposing Kyurem-Black.

Looking at my match against D2, I felt pretty confident with bringing Kyurem-Black and Mega Charizard Y. My Kyurem was max speed and could OHKO D2's (without -1 from intimidate) as well as OHKO Landorus and Kartana (if I recall correctly). Mega Charizard Y OHKOd his entire team but Kyurem-Black. I was worried about Landorus + Hitmontop because he could easily Fake Out Kyub and Rock Slide and I would probably lose, but thankfully he didn't bring that! I ended up hard reading his Fake Out + Fusion Bolt into Mega Charizard Y turn 1 which pretty much won me the game. None of the speed ties matter because the first was him attacking into Protect and the second would have only potentially mattered because I missed Overheat.

I really like Mega Tyranitar here. The only thing I was really worried about was Flash Cannon from Aegislash or Close Combat from Zeraora so I brought Amoonguss to Rage Powder those away. RP + DD was a great play turn one, since if I got to +1/+1 it was over and there was no way he could really punish me. The worst that could happen was he Overheated into Amoonguss + Flash Cannon'd my Tyranitar (in Sun) but I wasn't expecting that to happen at all. After Turn 1 the game was pretty much over. I figured he would reveal Wide Guard as a desperation play so I immediately killed the Aegislash and went on to win from there.

Sand go brrrrrr. Sand beats the #1, #2, and #3 most common Pokemon so I thought it was worth a shot, but I never ended up using it :blobpensive: Kyurem-Black was added to help deal with Tapu Bulu, Zygarde, and Landorus-T, while Tapu Koko is great overall and gave me a speed control option outside of bringing Sand.

pqs: Tflame keldeo is epic

We're not going to talk about the Round 1 game! Round 2 I didn't like my matchup at all. Amoonguss was pretty worthless, Thundurus + Protect teammate invalidated Choice Banded Talonflame, and Keldeo got outsped + OHKOd by Skymin and Thundurus (and if it was bulky I couldn't kill him first). I think I won if I clicked Rock Slide Turn 1 but I didn't because I'm bad! I ended up losing on a 37.5% roll instead :blobpensive: I felt pretty strong about my Round 3 matchup until he revealed Taunt Thundurus which meant it would be a lot harder to win! Without Tyranitar being para'd Turn 2 and the HP Ice crit, I potentially could have won since I could have killed Thundurus and hopefully Amoonguss 1v1s Scrafty (depending on how much HP I had) but mons is mons!
68 SpA Tyranitar-Mega Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Landorus: 280-332 (87.7 - 104%) -- 25% chance to OHKO note: I could have sworn I added enough SpA to guarentee the OHKO but apparently not!

R1 vs. D2 | R2 vs. pqs | Finals vs. London
I wanted to use Hoopa because it's cool! Mega Charizard Y was added to check Steels and help against Kyurem-Black, Landorus-T was essential so I didn't autolose to Talonflame or other Landorus, and Ferrothorn was great for Rain and opposing Landorus-T.
Round 1 I really liked Mega Charizard Y and Landorus-T since the combination beat anything D2 could bring. Almost lost because of double Rock Slide miss into Sacred Fire burn but luckily ☆emma stone fan ❤: justice was served! Against pqs, I figured his Talonflame was Life Orb (since it was in Game 1) so Ferrothorn + Hoopa-Unbound (which takes LO BB) was a solid pick. I was hoping for BB into Hoopa and Ice Beam into Ferrothorn (Protect was even better!) and thanks to my amazing EVs I was able to win. Shoutout freeze for making me lose my mind in the moment! I really loved Ferrothorn against London in the finals, just made sure to scout for Flamethrower Genesect (which I figured he'd be since there were no other Ferrothorn checks) and Ferrothorn was able to 1v1 Tyranitar.

R1 I needed to bring Keldeo for Ferrothorn (which he didn't even bring >_<) but I ended up getting owned by Mega Altaria. Flinches probably didn't matter since he said he was bulky. R2 showed the power of Bo1 techs such as Coba Berry Amoonguss! which let me Dragon Dance with Tyranitar and win the game. R3 as soon as London got +SpA and revealed Thunderbolt it was gg :blobpensive:

Felt great against my Rain matchup R1 which was nice. Even If I didn't call his Protect Turn 1 (I didn't!), odds were still in my favor because of 50% double protect + Stone Edge accuracy + Thunder Wave paralysis. Round 2 I did not get lucky with the yellow magic unfortunately :blobsad: Round 3 I liked my odds against everything beside Latios which I would need to guess which turn it doesn't Protect so I could para it for Kyurem-Black :blobshrug: Miss didn't matter since Ice Beam KO'd Mamoswine from wherever it was after the Earth Power

Overall, I had a pretty fun time playing 2v2. I just used samples / teams passed to me in the Cups, but decided to build for the playoffs because I wanted to win. Sadly I did not :psycry: but I would consider it a successful tournament overall!

Biiiiiiig thank you to Yoda2798 who I literally built all my teams with. Thanks for listening to my bad ideas like Rawst Berry Thunder Punch Conkeldurr and 4 attacks Tapu Koko. Love u <3

Also shoutout to Jirachirelia for testing with me a ton since nobody else would >_<

Post Classic BW VR Update!
:Kyurem-Black: :Latios: :Thundurus:

With classic comes the development of the meta, and the VR of a tier should reflect that. In addition to that, the order within each tier of the VR will roughly correspond to how good a mon is compared to other mons in that tier. Here are the recent shifts!

:Latios: S- -> S
:Thundurus: A+ -> S-
:Metagross: A -> A+
:Tyranitar: A- -> A
:Jellicent: A- -> A
:Heatran: B+ -> A-
:Keldeo: B+ -> A-
:Tornadus: B -> B+
:Thundurus-Therian: B- -> B

:Weavile: C- -> C+
:Kyurem: C- -> C
:Hydreigon: C- -> C
:Kabutops: C- -> C
:Chansey: UR -> C
:Arcanine: D -> C-
:Nidoking: UR -> D
:Tornadus-Therian: UR -> D

:Cresselia: S- -> A+
:Ferrothorn: A- -> B+
:Latias: A- -> B+
:Terrakion: A- -> B+
:Excadrill: A- -> B+
:Deoxys-Attack: A- -> B+
:Snorlax: B+ -> B
:Mew: B+ -> B
:Manaphy: A- -> B-
:Landorus-Therian: B -> B-

:Dragonite: B- -> C
:Bronzong: B- -> C
:Garchomp: B- -> C

:Deoxys-Defense: B+ -> C-
:Meloetta: B -> C-
:Braviary: C+ -> C-
:Darmanitan: C -> C-
:Deoxys: C -> C-
:Armaldo: C -> C-
:Hippowdon: C -> C-
:Whimsicott: B- -> D
:Reuniclus: C+ -> D
:Clefairy: C -> D
:Gengar: C- -> D

:Staraptor: C- -> D
:Sableye: C -> UR
:Bisharp: C- -> UR
:Charizard: D -> UR
:Porygon-Z: D -> UR
:Vaporeon: D -> UR

So some pretty interesting shifts happened. KyuB finally has what could be considered an equal, trick room mons as a whole dropped as a result of the top mons just straight up beating the style, and some mons come out of others’ shadows like ttar, torn, thundt, etc.

By the way, we've also added pqs to our council! We hope their takes on the metagame will help us as we go on.

Expect another update after PL, alongside an ORAS revamp, as Mishimono has joined that council. As always, thanks for reading and have a nice day.

Bw is done for this pl so I’ll share some sets and stuff I made and some stuff pqs gave me.

Yes I think all of these mons should rise on the vr

Mons:
1610940622075.png

Kyurem-Black @ Babiri Berry
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 HP / 100 SpA / 156 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Earth Power
- Protect
The dreaded Kyub that beats metagross and genesect. I never used it but in theory you can live a steel gem meteor mash into bullet punch and 2HKO with earth power as well as a +1 genesect flash cannon and ohko with hp fire.

:Infernape:
Infernape @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Fake Out
- Encore
- Close Combat
- Overheat
Fake out + encore on nape is very good, it pressures basically every mon that’s slower than it because mons that protect to block fake out get encored into tect. I believe that every nape should run encore as the 4th move
1610940731593.png

Togekiss @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Air Slash
- Trick
- Flamethrower
- Follow Me
Variation on the standard togekiss that lets it outspeed some things and shut down bulkier mons like Jellicent and it can still follow me in the matchups where it would just be spamming that anyway

:Meloetta:
Meloetta @ Life Orb
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 Def
- Protect
- Focus Blast
- Relic Song
- Hidden Power [Ice]
I never used this, in theory you relic song to turn into a fighting type the same turn scrafty uses crunch and then blast it

1610940768597.png

Blastoise @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Protect
- Follow Me
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind
Fake out + Follow me are an illegal combo in bw :psycry: But even so it’s a really bulky water that can soak up a lot of hits with follow me and provide speed control with icy wind

1610940828183.png

Alakazam @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Encore
- Focus Blast
- Ally Switch
Fake out immune + Faster than basically every non scarfer in the meta + Ohkos kyub + ally switch makes alakazam so sexy. Encore can also help in some certain situations when you don’t need any other move

1610940864945.png

Porygon-Z @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Beam
- Trick
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
Hyper beam ohkos kyub.

1610941148499.png

Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 12 HP / 188 Atk / 164 SpD / 144 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Ice Punch
- Night Slash
- Low Kick
This is just a special ev spread for weavile that lets it put in more work. It outspeeds the genies and lives scarf modest Latios Draco meteor while still ohko’ing both

1610941185047.png

Aerodactyl @ Rock Gem
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- Stone Edge
- Sky Drop
- Fire Fang
Set pqs made, basically sky drop machine that can ohko the genies and kyub.

1610941215891.png

Suicune @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Snarl
- Scald
- Icy Wind
- Rest
When paired with an intimidate mon like scrafty suicune is so annoyingly bulky and it can lower opposing spatk and atk with snarl and burn and heal off all damage with rest. Fake out immune speed control too with inner focus icy wind.

1610941307724.png

Latias (F) @ Haban Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 8 HP / 244 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic
- Sucker Punch
- Protect
THE NICHE HAS BEEN FOUND! My team didn’t let me use it but Latias can easily live scarf kyub ice beam unlike Latios, and sucker punch ohkos deo a which usually has the upper hand against Latios. Haban berry because fuck dragons

1610941334497.png

Volcarona @ Bug Gem
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 24 HP / 88 SpA / 244 SpD / 152 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Protect
- Rage Powder
- Bug Buzz
- Fire Blast
Another pqs set, bulked for dragon gem Latios Draco meteor, and rage powder is op
1610941351705.png

Gyarados @ Water Gem
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Taunt
- Protect
- Icy Wind
Gyara so good oml. Intim and strong physical water stab. Taunt and icy wind are also good support options, stone edge is fun sometimes

1610941368314.png

Liepard @ Dark Gem
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Sucker Punch
- Fake Tears
- Encore
LEIPARD FOR S
Fake out + prankster encore just takes control of the entire first and second turn, the problem with infernape is that it can’t encore mons faster than it and Jellicent fucks it up, but liepard has no weakness to fast mons or ghost trick roomers, just encore that fool. Sucker punch ohkos Latios and fake tears is a support move, you can replace that with twave if you really want

Cores:

1610945694183.png
1610945713508.png

Kyurem-Black @ Power Herb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Freeze Shock
- Fusion Bolt
- Dragon Claw
- Protect

Tornadus (M) @ Flying Gem
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Acrobatics
- Superpower
- Protect
- Sky Drop
Pqs suggested this core and tornadus is a really good partner for power herb kyub. It can scare away or ohko intimidate users while also taking care of Latios, which are big problems for kyub. This lets kyub use its strongest stab along with its strongest stat to kill basically everything.

1610945982097.png
1610945992359.png

Kyurem-Black @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Ice Beam
- Draco Meteor
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt

Liepard @ Dark Gem
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Sucker Punch
- Fake Tears
- Encore
I’m not even joking. Liepard’s moveset is basically perfect for scarf kyub. Fake out provides cover for kyub’s first turn, and if they try to tect or fake out they get encored. Prankster fake tears is amazing with kyub because it’s a huge power boost to let it ohko so much more. Scarf kyub is also sadly slower than deo a, but don’t worry because liepard has sucker punch to deal with it.

1610946389948.png
1610946403148.png

Victini @ Fire Gem
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- V-create
- Zen Headbutt
- Bolt Strike
- Protect

Tornadus (M) @ Flying Gem
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Sky Drop
- Acrobatics
- Superpower
- Protect
Along the same lines as power herb kyub + torn, a huge physical threat + torn is basically always gonna be a good pair, this one just happens to also beat metagross and handles a couple other mons better.
