:sv/revenankh::sv/walking wake:

Following the conclusion of CAP Champions League, it's clear that two elements of our metagame stand out above the rest as problematic: Revenankh and Walking Wake. The CAP Metagame Council has elected to nerf Revenankh and quickban Walking Wake, effective immediately. (tagging Kris and Marty to remove Wake :heart:)

The metagame council's current proposal for Revenankh is to simply remove Poltergeist. While this is almost certainly overkill, it's beyond clear that Poltergeist is the broken factor at play. We are asking you whether or not you agree with this proposal, and if not, what an alternative nerf could look like.

As for Walking Wake, its fate isn't entirely sealed –– we may suspect it back down into CAP after the conclusion of this thread. However, we wanted to first hear if the community feels that a suspect is worthwhile. If the community is overwhelmingly in favor of keeping Walking Wake banned, it will remain as such. We decided to go down this route as to not interfere with CAP32's ongoing process; essentially, we did not want Walking Wake's presence to influence decisions in stages like Ability and Stats, and then have it be banned via suspect soon after.

––––––––––
One only needs to look at post-buff Revenankh's performance in CAPCL to understand why it's being nerfed. Sporting over an 80% winrate, the mummy has almost no reliable counterplay besides itemless Pokemon, with even "hard counters" like Tera Fairy Garganacl able to be worn down long-term. Backed by boosts from Spell Tag and Bulk Up, Revenankh's Tera Ghost Poltergeist nukes nearly every physical wall in the tier, and those that can tank it are blown past by priority Drain Punch. Support from Pokemon like Shed Tail Orthworm and Screens Grimmsnarl means that Revenankh has no shortage of setup opportunities and can bypass some of its traditional checks and counters. This mon is an absolute semi-truck of a wallbreaker and we could not continue to leave it alone in good conscience.

Walking Wake on the other hand is a slightly different story. With it dodging a ban through suspect test in OU, you may be wondering why it's quickban worthy here; the answer is that sun is a far, far more consistent playstyle in CAP due to the presence of Jumbao. One doesn't need to run a suboptimal Pokemon in Torkoal if they want to abuse Walking Wake's full power. Jumbao is phenomenal mon in its own right, and keeping sun up is incredibly easy with it –– it's really one of the best support options that Walking Wake could've hoped for. Outside of sun, Walking Wake is just an average wallbreaker, but paired with Jumbao it becomes one of the most devastating special options in the entire tier. As I mentioned earlier, a suspect test for Walking Wake is absolutely on the table, so please voice your support for that route if you wish for us to take it.

As a last reminder, these decisions are not final. We will revisit whether or not to keep Revenankh's nerf after Pokemon Home drops, and in all likelihood, Walking Wake will be immediately unbanned with the drops & other unbans from Home as well.

1. The CAP Metagame Council identifies a broken/unhealthy threat. Input from the metagame discussion thread, Discord, high-level tournament replays, etc. are ways the community can voice their concerns to the CAP Metagame council.

2. The CAP Metagame Council begins a thread. The OP, written by the CAP Metagame Council, summarizes why the Pokemon is broken. Metagame shifts, game mechanics changing, or OU bans can be potential points. The CAP Metagame council will also include a checks and counters list. Hard-counters to soft-checks, hazard damage, relative ability to switch-in, etc. should be considered. Keep in mind that with the broken Pokemon in the metagame, we can continue to understand why it is broken.

3. In the thread, the community discusses the simplest solution(s) to making the CAP not broken. Here, we can well-define a new list of checks and counters. Some solutions may be changing its ability to one that's similar but not as good, reducing its speed tier, removing some of its bulk or attack, or removing a certain move or two from its movepool. The community will play a huge role in identifying what solutions are available, but CAP Metagame Council will have the final say on what nerf is implemented. Keep in mind that the nerf(s) that is(are) implemented MUST preserve the identity of the CAP (i.e. Necturna uses Sketch, Pajantom uses its powerful trapping move, etc.).
Rules for posting in this thread:
  • Do not post one liners, nor uninformed posts.
  • Do not hold discussion on other potential nerfing processes.
  • Do not hold discussion on the nerfing system.
  • You are required to make respectful posts.
  • If you fail to follow these rules, your post will be deleted and you will be infracted.

We're aiming for this thread to last for approximately 1 week.

Thanks everyone for the lively discussion so far. In a shocking turn of events, there have been 0 objections to the proposed course of action so that's what we'll be going with! Revenankh will lose Poltergeist and Walking Wake will remain banned without a suspect.

Tagging Marty and Kris once more for the Revenankh changes, ty both!
