With a colorful offensive movepool backed up by the combination of Sheer Force + Life Orb, Nidoking has cemented itself as one of the tier's most fearsome wallbreakers. It can effortlessly dismantle a huge portion of the metagame, easily obliterating tier staples like Clefable, Heatran, Garchomp, and Gliscor. Focus Punch lets Nidoking severely dent Blissey, its most common check, but Flamethrower can be used to scorch Scizor and Skarmory with a clean OHKO. Nidoking fits best on bulky offense VoltTurn teams alongside sturdy pivots like Rotom-W and Scizor that can bring it in safely, especially because they tend to invite in foes like Tangrowth and Heatran, respectively. They also defensively check or cripple faster foes like Garchomp, Weavile, and Alakazam that force Nidoking out. Focus Punch variants pair well with other special attackers like non-Psyshock Alakazam and Latias that appreciate Blissey getting overwhelmed. Weavile can help threaten Blissey and Slowking for it and enjoys Flamethrower Nidoking taking care of Clefable, Heatran, and Scizor in return.
