Counter Gligar

Gligar @ Eviolite
Ability: Immunity
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Counter
- Roost
- Taunt
- Toxic

Here we have Counter Gligar, a move that allows this thing to overwhelm physical attacker that are able to 2HKO it.
Taunt is useful both with Toxic (thus making the recovery moves of the opponent useless) and Counter because the opponent is forced to attack you or switching out. Sadly, there isn't room for Sand Tomb to trap the opponent. This way you are able to avoid your opponent to use too many SD.

The problem with this set is that you are able to deal with special attackers only with Toxic.

The EVs spread and the nature is standard.

With this Estarossa wins this week with his Curse Gligar set, congratulations.

For this week we've picked the sturdiest Rock-type: Rhyperior. Rhyperior hasn't been in the best of its shape with the meta kinda throwing it off from the very spammable Flying and Electric answer it used to be. However, with the current meta and maybe a new set, would it do well? Let's find out! However, the following set is banned:

Rhyperior @ Leftovers / Expert Belt
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Atk / 240 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge / Rock Blast
- Swords Dance / Ice Punch / Toxic

Rhyperior @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 20 Atk / 236 Def
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch / Rock Polish

Bulky Weakness Policy Rhyperior set for taking advantage of Solid Rock to prock it very easily. I opted for a bulky variant to eat physical hits better such as SD Superpower from Scizor, Terrak etc. This thing has a crazy base Atk stat anyways and at +2 it does a number on a lot of Mons. Standard stab moves which you'll most likely be spamming. Ice Punch lets you beat Gligar more consistently and a more reliable way to punish offensive doubles into something like Celebi. Honestly, you can run whatever you want in the last slot. Rock Polish can improve its sweeping capabilities but it is slow as fck anyways. I guess it's nice if you wanna outspeed Adamant Max Spe Scizor and everything lower. Fire Punch deals with all Scizor variants, but standard bulky sets drop to Quake at +2 after SR dmg. It also lets it handle Bronzong better. Has enough Atk to OHKO Gligar at +2 after SR Dmg with Ice Punch.

+2 20 Atk Rhyperior Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 156+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 296-352 (88.6 - 105.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

+2 20 Atk Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 80+ Def Hippowdon: 216-255 (51.4 - 60.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

+2 20 Atk Rhyperior Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Bronzong: 258-304 (76.3 - 89.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

+2 20 Atk Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 152 HP / 0 Def Scizor: 292-345 (91.5 - 108.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Scizor Superpower vs. 248 HP / 220+ Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 341-404 (78.7 - 93.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and poison damage

+2 252 Atk Cobalion Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 220+ Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 279-330 (64.4 - 76.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and poison damage

+2 252 Atk Terrakion Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 220+ Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 357-423 (82.4 - 97.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Tsareena Power Whip vs. 248 HP / 220+ Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 342-405 (78.9 - 93.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Rhyperior @ Choice Band
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 52 HP / 252 Atk / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast/ Stone Edge
- Thunder Punch / Fire Punch
- Ice Punch

While it may be slow, it has a nice physical bulk, + a solid (badum tsch) ability in solid rock, and great attack stat, along with a fantastic movepool to make use of a banded set. With this power, and ice punch, it can even ohko gligar,

252+ Atk Choice Band Rhyperior Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 156+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 288-340 (86.2 - 101.7%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO

The moveset is fairly customisable, stone edge has more power on average than rock blast, but rock blast is a little more accurate, has the potential to sometimes do more damage, and can technically break substitutes, however because of its spdef and the fact gengar and suicune are the most likely ones to be setting up substitutes, this benefit is fairly unlikely to be useful. Fire punch / Thunder punch is customisable too, with fire punch ohkoing all scizor sets and dealing with bronzong, and thunder punch dealing supereffective damage to water types being useful for easing prediction sometimes,

252+ Atk Choice Band Rhyperior Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Bronzong: 250-296 (73.9 - 87.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Choice Band Rhyperior Fire Punch vs. 248 HP / 124+ Def Scizor: 460-544 (134.1 - 158.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The given EV Spread allows you to outspeed alomomola, which makes this a great set for stallbreaking, since it can 2hko alo with earthquake/stone edge/thunder punch,

252+ Atk Choice Band Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 237-279 (49.2 - 58%) -- 59% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 237-279 (49.2 - 58%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

It also outspeeds and 2hkos quagsire too,

252+ Atk Choice Band Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 228-268 (57.8 - 68%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

meaning that a stall team has to be very careful about swapping in on it, since any flying/levitate mons will get hit a lot by its rock stab if predicted. However an EV spread with max HP could be run instead if stall matchup is not a problem in order to increase its bulk.

Based on recent usages rise in the tier, i've came up with this set. Celebi / Tsareena / Gligar being out there oftenly as a Ground counter, this set can lure them all.
Classical ev spread, reworked to insure some KOs on key Pokemon with rocks support :
100+ Atk Rhyperior Subzero Slammer (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 184 Def Amoonguss: 340-400 (78.7 - 92.5%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
100+ Atk Rhyperior Subzero Slammer (140 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Celebi: 318-376 (93.2 - 110.2%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
100+ Atk Rhyperior Subzero Slammer (140 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tsareena: 324-382 (113.6 - 134%) -- guaranteed OHKO
100+ Atk Rhyperior Subzero Slammer (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 156+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 324-384 (97 - 114.9%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
-1 100+ Atk Rhyperior Subzero Slammer (140 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Krookodile: 256-302 (77.3 - 91.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Sub Z is very interesting, as it lets you chunk something for free (bar being hit by sound based moves, of course.) Rockium Z coming off of that attack is going to hurt anything, as well as Earthquake discouraging Steels and ice punch hitting Latis, Hydrei, and Gligar. Enough speed to creep mons creeping Hippowdon, rest is in HP, max attack.

Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Atk / 240 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn

- Stone Edge
- Dragon Tail

EdgeQuake combo is the dual-STAB combo; Megahorn is for coverage and Dragon Tail is here to catch off guard the opposite check on the switch. Unluckily, we have to risk with this set because only Earthquake has a perfect accuracy.
85% accuracy for Megahorn is acceptable because we are talking about a strong coverage move, so it is worth the miss chance.
The EVs spread is the standard one for the Rocker set.

0 SpA Life Orb Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Assault Vest Solid Rock Rhyperior: 355-421 (81.9 - 97.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Celebi Giga Drain vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Assault Vest Solid Rock Rhyperior: 234-279 (54 - 64.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

@Darksafadao: Am I allowed to ask you, just in case, if it is possible to post more than 1 set?

Alright so you guys already know what Rhyperior does, take a ton of hits. Rhyperior has fair natural bulk and in tandem with Solid Rock will survive strong hits. However, it can be 2HKOed sometimes regardless. On the physical side, Rhyperior will be able to smack physical attackers thinking they can live an EQ/Edge and finish Rhyperior off.

252 Atk Cobalion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 184-217 (42.3 - 50%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
