art coming soon

Hello and welcome to National Dex UU: Break this Core, the project in which I will present you with a popular core in the metagame each week and allow you to submit a mon or core of your own to break the presented one.

Every Sunday a popular offensive or defensive core will be posted by myself around 8pm GMT.
Posting will last until Friday where you will have the chance to submit a Pokemon or core.

Rules
  • Submission Cycles will last from Sunday to Friday, and Voting Cycles will last from Friday to Sunday.
  • You may reserve a Pokemon, however you must state what set you are reserving as well. You will have 12 hours before your reservation becomes invalid and is free to be taken by someone else.
  • The same pokemon may used be submitted, however the second submission must be rather different from the first. For example, I might submit Rockium Z Tapu Bulu, this means that you can submit Bulu, but may not use the SD Rockium Z set and opt for something else such as the Leftovers set.
  • Submissions may only be of Pokemon that are in the current Viability Rankings (see here)
  • An explanation is required, it doesn't have to be too long. Calcs and Replays are not required, however better support your submission and argument.
  • Make sure the mons that you've submitted, have viable sets and spreads and can also be prevalent support for a team.
  • Please be respectful of others during submission and voting.
Most importantly, have fun submitting!

reserving hippo

:bw/hippowdon:
Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic / Whirlwind

Specially Defensive Hippowdon, a popular pick nowadays, complete shits on Mega Manectric. Only taking ~30% max after Leftovers recovery + Slack Off makes it easy to come in consistently on it. Scarf Krook lacking Toxic also is just unable to break Hippowdon, as Hippo’s natural Physical bulk and Scarf Krook’s lack of power just makes it a tough deal for the crocodile. Earthquake also does heavy damage to both of these obviously, even if both have Intimidate, Earthquakes + Toxic kills them pretty quickly.

So basically, neither can break Hippo and Hippo does big Hippo damage

taking defensive mega altaria :altarianite:

:xy/altaria mega:
Altaria-Mega @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Flamethrower
- Roost
- Defog / Heal Bell / Toxic

Mega Altaria has the typing and bulk to easily take both Pokemon throughout the match and recover any damage with Roost (even HP Ice Mega Manectric is just a 3HKO after rocks). Hyper Voice always 2HKO Mega Mane and OHKOes Krookodile. Speed EVs to outspeed Modest Primarina but you can run just enough to outspeed Adamant Azumarill or Crawdaunt. Repeated Volt Switches can be a pain so pair it with a Ground-type like SpD Hippowdon or a Regen mon like AV Gbro or AV Reuniclus.

252 Atk Krookodile Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Altaria-Mega: 111-132 (31.3 - 37.2%) -- 81.2% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Manectric-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Altaria-Mega: 72-86 (20.3 - 24.2%) -- 78.2% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Manectric-Mega Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Altaria-Mega: 130-154 (36.7 - 43.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Pixilate Altaria-Mega Hyper Voice vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Krookodile: 338-398 (102.1 - 120.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Pixilate Altaria-Mega Hyper Voice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Manectric-Mega: 153-180 (54.4 - 64%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Surging Strikes
- U-turn
- filler

Self explainatory, outspeeds both, ohko's krook and mega man is only one stealth rock away from having 50%-75% chance to die from surging strikes, also it ignores intimitades from both

reserving amoonguss

:bw/amoonguss:
Amoonguss @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Spore
- Sludge Bomb
- Seed Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Pretty simple but effective. Rotom-Wash lacking Pain Split means Amoonguss overwhelms it without Rotom-Wash being able to recover much. Amoonguss is also one of the few Pokemon that doesn't mind switching into both Knock Off and Sludge Bomb (due to the 30% Poison chance). Seed Bomb is on this set because of Calm Mind Primarina, but vs this core you only need Sludge Bomb anyway.

Reserving CM Glowbro

Slowbro-Galar @ Waterium Z
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Sludge Bomb
- Scald
- Slack Off

Glowbro can easily use both mons as setup fodder and freely spread status if it's not trying to sweep yet since Regenerator keeps it healthy to do so throughout the game.
0 SpA Rotom-Wash Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Slowbro-Galar: 166-196 (42.2 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 Atk Tangrowth Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro-Galar: 108-128 (27.4 - 32.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
0 Atk Tangrowth Knock Off vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro-Galar: 70-84 (17.8 - 21.3%) -- possible 5HKO

cb terrak is super slept on right now, and this core has no fighting resist, so it's automatically getting blown up.

:ss/terrakion:

Terrakion @ Choice Band
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Quick Attack/Megahorn
- Earthquake
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge

Some illegal calcs:
252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 210-247 (69 - 81.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 240-283 (59.4 - 70%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 320-378 (79.2 - 93.5%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Now ofc terrak isn't switching into any of these mons, but it's really not that hard to get in with how good pivots are in this tier.

:ss/roserade:
Roserade @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Spikes
- Synthesis

While knock off Tangrowth still annoys Roserade, it pmuch takes advantage of both mons in order to setup spikes that Rotom-W can't defog on and even if it takes earthquakes from Tangrowth it still heals off the damage with Synthesis why is this called roton btw

0 Atk Tangrowth Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Roserade: 102-121 (39 - 46.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Roserade Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 170-204 (42 - 50.4%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO
(You can easily just stack spikes and rocks from your teammates combined with the huge chunk of damage + Poison chance you end up on a good spot)
