FAQ
Here are some frequently asked questions that are worth adding here

"How do usage stats work?"

Following the National Dex UU Ladder, Pokemon below the usage of the respective month will drop in here. With a change that has been made for Shifts in general, there have been some peculiar shifts. The First Month comes up with a 1.57% drop and no raises counted in. The Second Month comes with a 2.28% drop and no raises. The Third Month comes with a 4.52% for drops and raises (this time they are included and October is gonna be the 4.52% drops & raises).

"Is there a PS Room for National Dex RU?"

Unfortunately there isn't one at the moment but you can still chat with us at the Discord Server! either the main National Dex server or our own server!.

"Is there gonna be a ladder for National Dex RU?"

There's no ladder for National Dex RU since, at the moment this FAQ update is being written, the generation is about to end (Gen 8) so there isn't gonna be a ladder available because it wouldn't really make much sense even if we really would appreciate one.

(first kekw) What’s good ndru :] since we've been waiting for this thread to exist for a while and I'm way too excited over it finally happening, I wanted to start the metagame discussions with a team dump featuring some of the better teams I’ve created, or cool teams I’ve ran into in friendlies with the discord members over the year or so the server has been active (join!!!) along with some words of my opinion on this lovely tier! https://pokepast.es/2f7fd875775ca3d2 Ever since natdex ru became an unofficial tier last September when N_Mareanie owned it, my love for previous RU gens led to immediately involving myself with the tier which has fortunately been one of the best experiences I’ve had playing pokemon for a long time. Even though I’ve been really inactive lately, I plan on changing this and coming back to help grow the tier now that a thread exists to draw in players from around smogon. Shoutout to Stinkum Furret4ssb SSJRobbieRotten TheWeirdGastrodon and everyone else who has been involved in NDRU since the beginning, and Mac3 and Beraldinho for picking it up so quickly. Cheers.

As head chief of the non-existent nat dex pu, what’s everyone’s thoughts on Mpidge? I remember a while ago it being hard to check due to its counters being able to be lured or worn down, but what does everyone think of it rn?
Currently a good mon but it has falled down as well, mostly because of how weird it is to fit on teams and the rocks weakness alongside things like Raikou or Rhyperior being common. Mega Houndoom being some big competition for the Mega Slot also hurts but its a good mon in general

Too add on what TheWeirdGastrodon said, Mega Pidgeot also has an atrocious movepool. You're generally limited to Hurricane as STAB, and Heat Wave as coverage. Thus, Mega Pidgeot is extremely perdictable. Usually any Sp Def Wall that isn't weak to Flying or Fire, like Porygon-2 or Empoleon, stops it in it's tracks. It can U-Turn, but it suffers due to it's Rocks Weakness, often forcing it to Roost when it forces something out.

Mega Pidgeot has some great traits, but isn't that hard to handle anymore.

Deoxys-D went from an Ubers-tier Pokemon to RU all because of a single pair of boots. I feel bad for it actually.

Regardless, its finally nice to have a thread for this. There are plenty of interesting mons from last gen UU that have a better chance to shine due to increased power creep.

Losses:
Donphan (lol)
Mandibuzz
Slowking
Umbreon
Slowbro

Gains:
From Ubers:
Deoxys-D

From UUBL:
Alolan Ninetales
Quagsire (lol)

I probably missed some things but the general rundown.

The fact that offensive sets are trying to keep this mon relevant atm is hilarious lol, but yea Deoxys-D suffered A LOT and offensive sets arent really that bad because they mix up most of the defensive profile with huge offensive pressure but the support needed for it is specific and hard to build with (Pursuit, which is restricted to 2 mons, Muk-Alola and Metageoss and one of them is gonna make your team full of weaknesses) but id like to see if someone shows us if this mon can really be broken or just be a funny example of an actual Uber going straight up on RU

Hmmmm, never had a mon get banned before, could be fun

Hi everyone! I've been inspired by DerpyBoi and decided to do a team dump of my own. I don't really know what else to say, so, here are the teams: https://pokepast.es/11917a893b1b325a

Also I have a bonus stall team that I decided not to include in the main dump cuz its not as good as the other teams but if you're wondering what stall looks like, here it is: https://pokepast.es/e17d4c1883131041 (If you want to know what a Runerigus is doing on stall in an RU tier, ask the people who voted dnb on Mienshao.)

Hello i hope yall enjoying the small thread we got for ND RU after a long time, while its nice to see many people in here i think i should clarify some stuff first here

Guidelines

  1. Please stay up to the topics, while i know this was just born and some people are excited, we dont want this thread to be pure shitpost or anything
  2. Avoid the one-liners, try to have a little bit more of development in the post you're making. From this point the one-liners are gonna be deleted and depending on how they are, infractions will be given.
  3. This is not the place for insulting/shittalking people, Any posts that do attack users will be quickly deleted and punished with a infraction

With that out of the way, ill mention some questions that are Frequently Asked about.

"How do usage stats work?"

Following the National Dex UU Ladder, pokemon below the usage of the respective month will drop in here. With a change that has been made for Shifts in general, there have been some peculiar changes. The First Month comes up with a 1.57% drop and no raises counted in. The Second Month comes with a 2.28% drop and no raises, last but not least. The Third Month comes with a 4.52% for drops and raises (this time they are included and October is gonna be the 4.52% drops & raises).

"How do you challenge people without a National Dex RU challenge system?"

We use the National Dex UU challenge as our method for battles but with the UU pokemon banned and also some others being in RUBL, this also applies to items like Light Clay, you can check them in the main post that contains the UU and RUBL pokemon list.

if you have any other small questions i recommend joining the discord server and asking it right there. This small post was made to clarify a few things and its gonna be added on the main one later on, have a good day everyone.

My turn to put a teamdump for ndru
As some of you know, a while ago theres been a teamtour in ndru so I'm going to share the teamdumps of all weeks of it.

Week 1 vs derp https://pokepast.es/94cb6855980cf9c0 ( W )
I decided to use a fat team with suicune because I wanted to build for it, because it was on the decline and nobody seemed to care about this mon anymore. I played a to play fat that seemed good vs him so ye I went with that.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8nationaldexuu-1362256774-einwokvn9stmwkp7gcipl4nqh6ejsbypw
The match up wasnt on my favour because I didnt use a steel type ( lol ) against hatterene so I had to play well with suicune and sharpedo and zydog werent the easiest too ( thank god I had ditto ) but I think I managed the game pretty well to secure the win week 1

Week 2 vs khemissi https://pokepast.es/66f5bd6cda4bfefe ( W )
I always loved mienshao and thought ( and think ) its banworthy, and volt turn is good in this meta, so I decided to go use a volt turn. I liked work up pidgeot that was underrated imo because wish pass was everywhere ( so I could abuse it ) and rhyp and steelix werent that used so yee.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8nationaldexuu-1366842722-dpyd9nehshwzmxqhpx4ou46czwuj14hpw
I knew the team of the opp because he used the same team than week 1 and I built it lol, so ye matchup wasnt that great I struggled a lot esp with chandelure and i missedplayed in early game but I got extremmily lucky dodged a draco meteor into win a speed tie so I ended up winning.

Week 3 vs Mattakata https://pokepast.es/44aecb5b568f40fc ( W )
In the beginning of the week I was supposed the play lupla which hyped me but he got subbed off because of a misscedule into timezone problems so I had to face his sub.
I knew from the beginning of the tour that I wanted to play hail at least once because it seemed heat ( its actually really good ) and lupla was the right guy to play hail imo because he was spamming ho most of the tour.

I had a great matchup and made a prediction that worked + got lucky so I was able to secure the win

Week 4 vs Ujana
https://pokepast.es/237552152f0a052c ( W )
I was still in the idea of volt turn being sick so I decided to use a volt turn that looks a bit like the one week 2 but more hasard centred, with a wallbreaker because he tented to use pretty bulky teams that were weak to him.

I got the mu well so It wasnt the tuffest of games because of that

Week 5 vs Furret https://pokepast.es/d000d7ecc0e5dccd ( W )
I was still hyped about hail because it had a good mu against his teams overall, so I used a similar team
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8nationaldexuu-1378272755-xycrh6hqytup4wuxxoj8v7ndcat2ey5pw
I ended up winning in a pretty fun match, even tho mu was in my favor

Week 6 ( semis ) vs Khemissi https://pokepast.es/ef19d5bacd84652b ( W )
By looking at his replays, me and lupla ( lupla because my helper in semis because his team was out ) realised that volcanion had a really good mu so I build a hasard stack team centred with him and broken mienshao. Toxic was there for vaporeon ( even if it has heal bell thats only 8 pp ) and milotic. I used super fang on crobat too which is a cool tech for chipping defensive mons like steelix on the switch.

I ended up having a pretty good mu even tho I didnt have chand resists so I managed to secure the win and think about the perfect

Week 7 ( finals ) vs gt0 https://pokepast.es/8ce8d473dabe73f0 ( L )
With light clay not being already banned ( it was banned like the day after the tour lol ) and the fact that lupla finished 4-0 using mostly HO I think, I decided it was my turn to use the broken tech in finals. It's a team that actually looks a lot like some broken SS RU teams just before the ban here, and a really cool team to use.

even tho I play well early game, lol turn 7 I thought I just had won, I drain punched because I misscalced and thought e speed zydog could kill and didnt think about fight berry, when I couldve secured a 90 % sweep path by just using play rough. By then didnt really matter, because I had in my head a gameplan with 100 % winrate but...didnt think about missing fire blast as an option. I miss fire blast, then I'm not going to make a novel about the game but it was unfortunate but it catches for week 2 steal at least for personal ratio..

so yee have fun stealing my teams

Thoughts on Stunfisk-Galar in this metagame, I think it could be a really cool fusion alternative to registeel and gastro in this tier due to it's great mu vs things like togekiss and toxtricity, snap trap can even have some weird utility vs something like gastrodon, also nice terrains are prominent enough to ruin it's great type typing due to it's poor utility. Could synergise great with defensive toge. Oh yeah and snap trap + yawn seems genuinely rly cool.

Terrains arent nearly common enough to harm it but yknow what is common enough? These guys :rhyperior: :steelix-mega:, pmuch ruining his use. The comparasion with Gastrodon is near non existant when Gastro fulfills different roles on teams despite being a bulky ground that deals with electrics (which it does it better btw) and if you want rocks + that then use Seismitoad. You really need to get the most use out of Snap Trap and all the role compression it tries to have to annoy bulkier teams but who knows, someone builds it and it works decently enough to land on one of the C spots (not C+ tho)

Currently a good mon but it has falled down as well, mostly because of how weird it is to fit on teams and the rocks weakness alongside things like Raikou or Rhyperior being common. Mega Houndoom being some big competition for the Mega Slot also hurts but its a good mon in general
One of the builds I went back to try out was Work Up Mega-Pidgeot. And the biggest issue I found was with how much it struggles to switch into another mon often it still doesn't do enough to punish or even scratch some of its harder checks like Mega-Ampharos. Its still highly effective and great at forcing out other mons, but even with 1.5x and its high speed it still doesn't present the same offensive capabilities or versatility of other picks like np houndoom or toxicitry.

Work up is a very interesting bit of tech, but it suffers due to the fact that a single Hurricane from a +1 MPidge does less damage than than 2 +0 Hurricanes. While if you opponent messes up you can start a sweep, but usually their Special Wall would be able to 1v1 or Status you before you can get too far.

However, you could likely forgo Heat Wave, seeing as our best Steel, Cobalion, doesn't resist Flying. While you'd need your teamates to deal with other Steels now, you could potentially run Refresh to set up on Special Walls such as Gastrodon. I haven't tested this out yet, and losing your pivot potential sucks, but a set running Hurricane/Work Up/Refresh/Roost might come up as a really strong option for MPidge in the future.

Work Up Refresh is designed as a stallbreaker but its not that good outside of that role due to the lack of U-Turn or Heat Wave, which makes it even easier to wall & take advantage of in most teams. Doesnt help that stall is also bad in the current meta, other steels like Registeel or Mega Steelix are able to soft check it and the usual answers such as Rhyperior, Raikou, Diancie and more still deal with it.
