Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Takes advantage of its checks like Mega Scizor, Gholdengo, Victini, and Heatran while also being threatening in general. You also slam fat with this too, which is quite funny. HippoSkarm will not be missed!
Congrats to Sputnik for winning with ID + CM Tapu Lele! Onto the next round...
Cycle 4
Cinderace is known for its signature ability Libero and it's semi-expansive movepool, allowing some creativity to be had in it sets. While Libero may have been nerfed this generation, lets see what you can do to make Cinderace the Next Best Thing!
this set lets you pass out burns on pokemon that might try to switch in against cinderace to force it out or KO like garchomp, tusk, lando, gliscor, urshifu or mega pert with will-o-wisp. also gets a “free” wisp off on gambit by potentially you clicking pyro ball/hjk so they click sucker punch
great tusk especially because tusk can a) replace hazards again after a court change or b) rapid spin after a court change, but still force out cinderace with potential risk of headlong rusk/close combat ko'ing cinderace, so getting the burn off makes it a lot safer to play against
Cinderace @ Choice Band
Ability: Libero
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pyro Ball
- High Jump Kick
- Zen Headbutt / Sucker Punch
- U-turn
Due to the recent Libero and Protean nerf, Swords Dance on Cinderace is a lot worse than it could be and really hinders it as a wallbreaker. Well, Choice Band allows Cinderace to retain some of the breaking power and the ability to activate Libero on all of it's moves. It's signature move, Pyro Ball allows it to consistently check Kingambit, Ferrothorn, and Gholdengo, High Jump Kick breaks Heatran and Mega Tyranitar, Zen Headbutt threatens Toxapex and Urshifu-RS, and Sucker Punch allows it to revenge kill Dragapult and weakened Tornadus-T. U-turn allows Cinderace to pivot and deal major damage to switch-ins like Slowbro and Rotom-W.
Going to need a tiebreaker for this round, but let's move on to the next!
Cycle 5
Kingambit is one of, if not the best Pokemon in the metagame right now, providing so much defensive and offensive utility for a multitude of teamstyles. Let's see if you can make the King's Gambit The Next Best Thing!
Kingambit @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Fairy / Water / Flying
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 Spe
Impish Nature
- Iron Head / Sucker Punch / Pursuit
- Knock Off
- Substitute
- Toxic
So, this set has a pretty simple objective. You use Substitute on a foe that is typically scared of Kingambit like Gholdengo, Tapu Lele, or Dragapult and then poison the switch in, most notably Great Tusk, Zamazenta, and Landorus-T. Pressure is honestly just a theorymon moment and I'm not sure if Supreme Overlord is better or not, but it seemed to be nice on a SubTox set.
WALL ME (Kingambit) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 88 HP / 252 SpA / 168 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Steel Beam
- Dark Pulse
- Grass Knot
- Focus Blast
So yeah I've gone crazy BUT I have calcs to back me up. Enough speed to smash Skarm trying to come in. (Also to Blast all the other Gambits in this thread)
The more mons on your team are dead the crazier the numbers get, but I'll post calcs for none.
