Hiya all,
With 2022 National Dex Circuit coming to a close with our last circuit tour closing off and playoffs fast approaching, we thought to take this time to have a feedback thread to hear your thoughts on the rights and wrongs of this year's circuit and if and what we could change to make next year's circuit even better. To get the ball rolling, I'll layout some quick personal thoughts I had on it.
Seasonals - We did even better with Seasonal numbers this year! With 196 man and 128 man tours compared to just 128 man tours from last year. I personally think 2 seasonals hits a perfect number of balance compared to the 3 from last year and would love to see both make a return again.
Ladder Tour - Sort of did the same in terms of numbers more or less, did a little better in the 4th cycle while dipping a little in the 2nd cycle but not by much. This time we also got a PS Room to work the ladder tour bot for the first time to make the race to the finish extra interesting and overall was very happy i managed to pull it off. Next year im hoping to get more creative with deadlines to accommodate different timezones but we'll see how that goes.
Last Chance - Pretty nice wrap up tour for the end of gen, did very well in terms of signups and went swimmingly as a format, would def like to bring it back. Maybe add a No johns element to it? who knows.
New tours? - To replace the hole in the circuit made by the underneath and a need to feature gen8natdexou in the circuit we can have a throwback tour of some kind for it. Basically single elim bo3, basic tour concept until we get more old gens anyway and we can form cups out of them. Live Tours might not be a bad idea to try again either, our playerbase has grown significantly since and we might see decent numbers going into it, with more efforts in advertising it via PS!.
Once again this is no indication of what next year's circuit may look like and just my brief personal thoughts on it. Now onto something that is set in stone.
Grand Slam - Last year this tour did p well; 196 man tours for Mono and AG opens and 128 man tour for UU open. With the reduction of points counting toward the circuit this year though it took a major hit, with 64 man tours for all 3 cups. In addition, we really want the circuit to stay OU focused; we originally sacrificed that for Grand Slam since it did so well but with the performance this year we'll be removing it. However it'll more than likely stay as a tour on its own since its still a cool concept, just being a tour for fun. With more Natdex Tiers developing too we might have more to feature in it as well, stick around for it around sometime in the middle of the year.
Do you have any recommendations on a format to replace the hole GSlam left? Would you want to bring back an old tour format from previous years? or maybe introduce a whole new one altogether? Let us know!
Also if you would like to discuss anything about teamtours it'd be best to keep it to timing alone. Formats can be decided closer to the tour startup date since aspects of it can still be in the air til then.
