The idea is to introduce gimmick movesets which could sound like a great idea but in practice wouldn't work at all. The article would give the set and it's idea, then explain why it wouldn't work. I'd hope to generalise the movesets mostly to OU and Battle Spot, although there may be some which crossover to other metagames such as Doubles.
Some examples include:
Last Resort Ambipom
Ambipom @ King's Rock
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant /Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Fling
- Last Resort
First turn Fake Out, second turn Fling. Now that your opponent has been flinched twice it's weakened enough to spam 140 BP STAB Last Resort! With 100 Base Attack and an impressive 115 Speed, what could possibly stop you? As it turns out, just about any team. Sure you get the STAB Boost, but Normal-Type resists such as Steel-Types are rampant in many tiers, even without meaning to. Furthermore, any Ghosts will put a stop to your shenanigans immediately.
Focus Sash Talonflame
Talonflame @ Focus Sash
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Acrobatics
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
Talonflames can hurt. Talonflames with a Swords Dance boost can hurt twice as much. But with worryingly low defences of 78/71/69, how could you ever get a Swords Dance boost without resorting to playing the prediction game? Easy! Remedy the problem with a Focus Sash and you're guaranteed to get your boost! Open up with your dance moves and watch your opponent's surprised face when they realise that the bird has hung on with 1 HP. You then make a turnabout with priority Acrobatics, now with 110 BP to get your clean 6-0. Except that Stealth Rocks is a thing. And so is Sucker Punch. And so is Rocky Helmet. And +2 still doesn't OHKO your most common counter Rotom-W.
